Episode 53: Kairi and Togepi

Before we get started, I thought I should share something with all my readers. I would like to say that I am going to have Sora and Kairi carry 12 Pokémon with them all at once. Someone once suggested this to me a long time ago, and I have to admit, it seems like a good idea. I'm planning on putting that in my original story as well, so enjoy.

A couple of days have passed since putting an end to the backpack swapping thefts. So far, things have been pretty quiet for the most part...

"Sora! Behind you!" Kairi called out. Sora ducked his head when a Shadow tried to slash at him.

...or maybe not.

Sora and Kairi had their hands full dealing with a swarm of Heartless that came and attacked them. The Heartless consisted of Shadows, but also two more kinds of Heartless.

One set of Heartless is a monkey-like Heartless that are covered in blue fur, appearing lighter around their head and torso, and darker around their arms, legs and long tails. The center part of their face is pitch-black with jagged edges, and two glowing, yellow eyes can be seen. The inner sections of their round ears are a light purple color, as are their large paws and feet, which end with sharp, black claws. They seem to be wearing golden bracelets and anklets, and the Heartless emblem can clearly be seen emblazoned on their chest. This Heartless is known as Powerwild.

The other kind is also a monkey-like Heartless. It has a feminine form. They have soft brown fur, over which they wore a darker brown shirt with jagged edges and the Heartless Emblem. They also wore a gold choker and hoop earrings, a bright red bow on top of their head, and blue, yellow, and green bracelets and anklets. Their paws are a dark, velvety-brown, and they also have a tail almost as long as they are tall. This are known as the Bouncywild.

Kairi placed the egg in her backpack and they fought off the attacking Heartless, taking them out. Powerwilds were jumping out of the trees, but Pikachu shocked the Heartless to a crisp.

Angel swung Iron Tail at a Powerwild, hitting a Shadow. Both Heartless ends up being destroyed. Sora and Kairi were back-to-back when they fought the Heartless. A couple of Powerwilds jumped at Sora and Kairi, but they swung at them and they went flying like two fuzzy baseballs.

"Home run!" Sora and Kairi both said. The Heartless went flying overhead. They crossed in the path of two traveling Trainers when they make a rough landing. They dissolve into darkness after they hit the ground.

"What was that?" One of the Trainers asked as the other just shrugged.

Back to Sora and Kairi, they dismissed their Keyblades.

"I think you hit that one even further I did. You?" Sora asked.

"I think it doesn't really matter since we gotten rid of them," Kairi said.

"Yeah, you're right. By the way, how's the egg?" Sora asked.

"I'm glad you asked me about that," Kairi said, rushing over to the egg and picked it up. "I wouldn't want anything to happen to it when those Heartless shown up."

"Yeah, I know what you mean, Kairi. That egg would have been scrambled if those Heartless has gotten their claws on it," Sora said. "But I am wondering how close it is to hatching."

"To be honest, I'm not so sure. But I have been keeping it close to me to keep it warm; it helps to make the egg hatch," Kairi said.

"I guess I made the right choice in letting you raise it," Sora said. "The Pokémon inside will be really grateful to have you as its Trainer, whatever it is."

This made Kairi blush.

Half an hour later, Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel arrived to the Pokémon Center of the nearest town, and starts when Sora's smartphone starts ringing. Sora saw it's from Kairi's parents.

"What is it, Sora?" Kairi asked.

"It's for you," Sora said, handing her the smartphone. She saw the caller ID and answered it.

"Hello," Kairi said.

"Hi, Kairi. It's been a while. How is your journey coming along?" Mirei asked.

"Hey, mom. Things have been going well, but also I got myself a Pokémon egg. Have a look," Kairi said, showing the egg to her.

"Aw, an actual Pokémon egg. It's been a long time since I've seen one of those. Have you been taking care of it? And where did you find it?" Mirei asked.

"It was Sora who found it in Grampa Canyon; and he thought I should hold onto it," Kairi said. "And yes, I have been taking good care of it."

"Wonderful," Mirei said. "Anyway, Kairi, there is a reason why I'm calling."

"What is it, mom?" Kairi asked.

"I just got home from the doctor and I just found out that I'm carrying a baby boy. You're going to have a little brother," Mirei said. That made Kairi smile.

"And I thought I was gonna have a little sister," Kairi said, playfully pouting. She giggled.

"I thought it was going to be another girl, too, until today," Mirei said. "That's all I wanted to tell you, so take care of the egg, and let me know what kind of Pokémon it is. Also, I wanted to know something. Are you and Sora a couple yet?"

"Yes, mom. I finally told him," Kairi said, making Sora blush. Pikachu and Angel snickered.

"I knew it. And I was hoping you were a pair by now. That's the prime reason I wanted to call," Mirei said. "I should get going. Your father and I are heading for our lamaze class in a few minutes. So, be in touch."

"I will, mom. Bye," Kairi said, breaking contact.

"So, you'll be having a little brother, huh? To be honest, I was hoping it was gonna be a girl, too," Sora said.

"You're just saying it because that's what I wanna hear," Kairi said.

"Maybe, but I meant it," Sora said.

"And you're really sweet, Sora. I really mean it, you're sweet," Kairi said. "And that's why I love you." Sora blushed at the compliment.

A little later, Sora transferred, Psyduck, Golem, Alakazam, Machamp, and Gengar for Ivysaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Cubone, and Munchlax.

"Okay, Cubone! Bone Club! Munchlax! Mega Punch!" Sora ordered. Cubone swung his bone at Munchlax with his bone as the Big Eater Pokémon came at the Lonely Pokémon with Mega Punch. "Great! Ivysaur! Razor Leaf! Pikachu! Quick Attack to dodge!" Ivysaur fired Razor Leaf as Pikachu dodged with Quick Attack. "Charizard! Flamethrower! Blastoise! Hydro Pump!" Charizard and Blastoise fired their chosen attacks and they collide with each other. An explosion occurs between the two of them. "Great job, guys!" The sparring match between Cubone and Marowak kept on going. They stare at each other as they started to evolve right at the same time. Sora, Kairi, and the other Pokémon were amazed by what they were seeing. Cubone and Munchlax have become a Marowak and a Snorlax. "Wow, all that training has paid off." Marowak came at Snorlax with Iron Head as Snorlax came at Marowak with another Mega Punch. Snorlax misses, but he lands a hit with his punch. The newly evolved Marowak lands on his back, but gets back up. "Okay, that's enough for right now. Let's take a break." The ground shook as a loud sound is heard. Sora turned to see that the newly evolved Snorlax has fallen asleep. "Out like a light." Sora calls Snorlax back. Kairi smiled as she felt the egg move for a moment.

"Huh?" Kairi asked.

"Eevee?" Angel asked. Sora and Pikachu turned after Sora has called Ivysaur, Charizard, Blastoise, and Marowak back.

"Kairi, what's wrong?" Sora asked.

"It's the egg. I felt it move just now," Kairi said.

"The egg moved?" Sora asked. He placed his hand on the egg, and he felt nothing. "I don't feel anything."

"Well, I felt it move now," Kairi said.

The couple went to a local restaurant to go over on how to reach Cinnabar Island when the time comes for Sora's upcoming Gym battle.

"Okay, to get to Cinnabar Island, we're gonna have to make our way back to Fushia City and then make our way through the Seafoam Islands here," Sora said, pointing to the map.

"Maybe on the way, we can meet up with your relatives," Kairi said.

"I was actually thinking of them," Sora said.

"Pikachu," Pikachu said.

"Anyway, anything on the egg?" Sora asked.

"No. Not sense it made its only movement," Kairi said.

"Eevee," Angel said.

"I think it might be a sign that the egg is close to hatching real soon," Kairi said.

"Eevee," Angel said.

"If it is, then that can only mean you're doing a good job at taking care of it, just like you take care of Angel and your other Pokémon," Sora said.

"Pikachu," Pikachu said.

As the couple talked, they weren't aware of Team Rocket listening on their conversation.

"Did you hear that? The twerps are hatching a new Pokémon inside that egg," Meowth said.

"I wonder what it could be," James said.

"It could a Dratini," Meowth said.

"Or maybe, an Aerodactyl," James guessed. "Or maybe, a legendary Pokémon."

"Whatever it is, it'll be a waste if we let the twerps keep their hands on it," Jessie said. "We're just going to swipe that egg before it hatches. And then raise the Pokémon inside to be a Team Rocket Pokémon. A Pokémon even the boss will be proud of!"

"How are going to do that, Jessie?" James asked.

"Leave that to me," Jessie said as she snickered.

They stepped out as Jessie and James got their disguises on. James wasn't too up for it.

"Jessie, you sure I have to wear this stupid dress? It feels weird to wear one?" James asked.

"Stop complaining, James. It never hurts to play dress-up every now and then," Jessie said. "It's going to be worth it to get our hands on that egg wouldn't it?"

"You have a good point," James said. They have a basket full of fake eggs with many different patterns on them. "Let's get ready."

Just when the couple came out of the restaurant, Team Rocket got to work on their plan.

"Excuse us, children," Jessie said in a disguised voice. They turn to see Team Rocket coming towards them. "Have a whole basket of Pokémon eggs."

"So, we were wondering if you're willing to buy one of our eggs or trade for one for one you've got," James said, sounding like a lady. Sora just rolled his eyes.

"Man, this has got to be the saddest attempt they ever tried to pull. Even they should know Pokémon eggs can't be sold," Sora said, remembering a lecture of Pokémon being caught, not bought or sold. "No thanks," Sora said out loud. "We're not interested."

"Yeah, we already have an egg," Kairi said.

"May we see it?" James asked.

"Please?" Jessie added. Kairi eyed Sora, and he nodded. Kairi reached in her backpack, and pulled out a fake egg, which they prepared in case they tried anything. They made the fake a few days prior to use for such an occasion. .

"Here it is," Kairi said.

"How beautiful," James said.

"Pretty," Jessie added.

"One, two..." Jessie and James counted. "THREE!" They tossed their fake eggs, knocking the fake out of Kairi's hands.

"Yoink!" Meowth said, grabbing it in all the confusion.

"Hey, what's going on!" Sora said.

"Prepare for trouble, the yolk's on you!"

"Make it double, we're in the egg business, too!"

"To protect the world from devastation!"

"To unite all peoples within our nation!"

"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"

"To extend our reach to the stars above!"

"Jessie!"

"James!"

"Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!"

"Surrender now, or prepare to fight!"

Meowth jumps in the scene and finishes this off.

"Meowth! That's right!"

"Mime, Mime, Mime!"

"Is this it?" Sora asked.

"No, it's not," Kairi said. "Keep looking."

"Chu," Pikachu said.

"Vee," Angel said.

"HEY, WE WEREN'T FINISHED WITH OUR MOTTO!" Jessie yelled.

"THE LEAST YOU COULD DO IS WAIT UNTIL WE GOT TO THE BEST PART!" James said.

"Here it is," Sora said. The egg reads a "WRONG" on the tag. "Maybe not." A whistle is heard. They looked at Meowth.

"Is this what you're looking for?" Meowth asked.

"That's my egg!" Kairi said.

"It was your egg," James said.

"Now it's our egg," Jessie said.

"So, let's beat it!" Meowth said.

Team Rocket ran off. The couple ran after them. It didn't take long for them to see them.

"Get back here!" Sora called out. James took out a Pokéball and threw it.

"Weezing! Go!" James called out. Weezing emerged from inside the Pokéball. "Use Smokescreen!" Weezing spews smoke from his mouths, covering their escape. Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel covered their mouths, avoiding to breathe in the smoke. When it cleared, they were good as gone, so Sora just snickered.

"And the award for best performance goes to Sora and Kairi for their beautiful fake-out routine," Sora said, laughing.

"Gotta admit, it was a clever idea, Sora. Though, can't understand why we just chased them the way we did," Kairi said.

"Well, we had to make it look good. Also, you wanna imagine the looks on their faces when they find out that it's a fake we gave them," Sora said. Kairi giggled.

"You're right. They're going to feel really silly when they see it's a fake," Kairi said. She giggled again. Sora and Kairi then shared a laugh as did Pikachu and Angel. Their laughter was interrupted by the ringing of Sora's smartphone. He saw it's a message from Professor Oak's lab. "What is, Sora?"

"Professor Oak wants us to head for the Pokémon Center right away. He said he has something he wants to tell the both of us," Sora said.

Kairi was curious at what the professor had to share with the both of them. So, they made their way back to the Pokémon Center to make contact with him.

Over to Team Rocket, they chuckled over their feat.

"That was too easy! It was like taking candy from a baby!" Jessie said.

"It sure was. I can imagine their cries," James said, picturing Sora and Kairi crying like babies. "Changing the subject, what are going to do with it?"

"Don't you know anything, James? One of us has to keep the egg warm just so it'll hatch. Since you two are the obvious wrong choice, it's going to be me," Meowth said laying on top of the egg. "Ah. Is that warm, little egg?"

Back at the Pokémon Center, Sora dials Professor Oak's number and he answers.

"Sora, I see you got my message," Professor Oak said.

"Well, we were going to step out of town when you messaged me. What's so important you had to make us call you over this phone?" Sora asked.

"I'm happy you asked, because it may tickle your fancy. First, I would like to ask this," Professor Oak said. "Have you ever wondered what it would be like to carry more than six Pokémon on your team?" Sora and Kairi looked at each other.

"To be honest, I did wonder about that for a while, but why ask me that?" Sora asked.

"I'll be more than happy to answer. You see, I am co concocting an experiment. So, therefore, I have decided to double the required amount of Pokémon to hold," Professor Oak said.

"Double?" Kairi asked.

"Yes. You see, this experiment is to have you being able to carry twelve Pokémon instead of the traditional six," Professor Oak said.

"Twelve Pokémon instead of six? Whoa, that sounds cool," Sora said.

"I was hoping you would approve," Professor Oak said with a smile. "In fact, Ash and Leaf have already been given this upgrade, but I am wondering if Kairi would be up for the task."

"It might sound nice, Professor. I am more than happy to be a part of the experiment," Kairi said.

"Wonderful. But before I give it to you, the both of you must promise not to abuse it in any manner, because there are places that will use six Pokémon, because if you do, then I will not hesitate to take it away," Professor Oak said.

"We promise," Sora and Kairi both said in unison.

"Good. Now, to retrieve this upgrade, simply access your Pokémon boxes," Professor Oak instructed. Sora and Kairi did exactly that.

"Now what?" Sora asked.

"Press on the flashing icon to retrieve the upgrade. It should take less than thirty seconds," Professor Oak said. Sora and Kairi pressed the flashing icon, and the upgrade is going through. It was finished. "Once it was accomplished, select the Pokémon you wish to have with you." Sora thought long and hard. So, he chose Pidgeotto, Nidorino, Nidorina, Elekid, Magby, and Voltorb. Kairi chose Vaporeon, Flareon, Jolteon, Leafeon, Glaceon, and Sylveon to be with her.

"Done," Sora said. "Professor, have you offered it to Gary, too?"

"I did, but for some reason, he hasn't been returning my calls. And when I hear back from him, he simply states that he's too busy. Now, remember what I said about using your new privilege, you two," Professor Oak said.

"We won't forget, professor," Kairi said.

"Yeah, so you won't have to worry about us misusing it," Sora said.

"I hope not. Now, I'll let you get back to it. Goodbye for now," Professor Oak said, hanging up.

"Wow, twelve Pokémon instead of just six. How about that?" Sora asked.

"Just what did he mean by abusing it?" Kairi asked.

"I guess, he doesn't want us to go blab about it to everyone. Everyone would probably be bugging him to let it happen for them, and he'd blame us," Sora said.

"That makes sense. I was thinking that he might think that we could be asking to carry way more than just twelve at a time," Kairi said.

"Yeah, that makes sense, too," Sora said. "But I think we should act like we have six with us, and dish out some additional help just in case of an emergency."

"Pikachu," Pikachu said.

"Eevee," Angel said.

"Good plan, Sora," Kairi said.

The couple sets out to continue their journey and their training towards Cinnabar Island.

Over to Team Rocket, Meowth is eating a bowl of pudding like a horse.

"You're still holding the egg?" James asked.

"If I let go, the egg's gonna get cold and it won't hatch," Meowth said. He wolfs down the pudding.

Back with Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel, they kept walking down the path and Kairi felt the egg move.

"Oh!" Kairi gasped.

"What's wrong, Kairi?" Sora asked.

"The egg. I think the egg's hatching!" Kairi said, holding the egg. Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel were at awe that the egg was starting to hatch. Cracks appear on the top. The top of the newborn Pokémon's head is thin, black, oval eyes with thin, black arcs on their outer sides. Its head has five round-tipped, conical spikes that seem to form a crown. It also has semi-oval, brown pads on the soles of its feet. It's still in its eggshell below and it has an egg-shaped body. Kairi was at awe as she held the newborn Pokémon. "Oh, how cute!"

"Toge, Toge, Toge," the newborn Pokémon chirped.

"Hello to you too," Kairi said.

"Pi, Togepi!" The Pokémon chirped.

"Let's see what you are," Kairi said, taking out her Pokédex.

Togepi, the Spike Ball Pokémon

Type: Fairy

As its energy, Togepi uses the positive emotions of compassion and pleasure exuded by people and Pokémon. This Pokémon stores up feelings of happiness inside its shell, then shares them with others.

"Togepi is your name, huh? You're a real cutie," Kairi cooed.

"Eevee," Angel said.

"It's a suitable Pokémon for you since you raised it as an egg," Sora said. "So, is Togepi a boy or girl?"

"Togepi's a boy. What a handsome little boy you are," Kairi said.

"Toge!" Togepi chirped.

"I better give my mom and dad a call," Kairi said.

"You're going to need this," Sora said, handing his girlfriend his smartphone.

"Thank you, Sora," Kairi said, dialing the number. She waited a second and she got an answer from father.

"Kairi, hello. How's your journey coming along?" Yuta asked.

"Smoothly, dad. Sora won six Gym Badges and he's training for Cinnabar Island," Kairi said.

"Nice. Also, your mom told me you have a Pokémon egg, is that right?" Yuta asked.

"That's right, dad. Also, the egg hatched. Have a look," Kairi said, moving the phone to Togepi.

"Ah, a Togepi. You're a lucky girl, Kairi. Togepi is a rare Pokémon," Yuta said.

"Wow, not only cute, but rare too," Kairi said. "Also, how did your lamaze class go?"

"Smoothly. Your mother and I were about to call you since you know about your new baby brother. Anyway, I hope you'll do well in your journey," Yuta said.

"I'll see you when Sora and I come back," Kairi said.

"You too, sweetie. Take care," Yuta said.

"You too," Kairi said as Yuta broke contact.

"So, what do you plan to do, Kairi?" Sora asked.

"I think Togepi is going to need a Pokéball," Kairi said. She took out a Pokéball and tapped on Togepi. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Kairi's Pokémon Box goes off asking her if she wants to keep Togepi with her. She chose to keep Togepi in exchange for Bellossom. She lets out Togepi and decided to carry him in her arms.

"Toge, Toge," Togepi chirped.

A couple of hours later, Kairi played peek-a-boo with Togepi.

"Where am I?" Kairi asked covering her face. "Here I am!" Kairi revealed herself making Togepi giggle. Sora watched his girlfriend with her new Pokémon. He was happy that she has a Pokémon to call her own, but at the same time he felt a little jealous. "Come here, you little cutie!" Kairi tickled Togepi on the spike. "Do you like it when I tickle you here?" Kairi tickled her Togepi on the spike.

"Toge, Toge, Togepi!"

Kairi held Togepi again and did some baby talk; Togepi found it funny. Sora sat down next to her.

"Hey Kairi. How are you adjusting to your Pokémon?" Sora asked.

"Well, better than you with Pikachu," Kairi teased making Sora do an anime-style fall. That made Kairi giggle. "You know I didn't mean it."

"Wasn't funny," Sora pouted.

"Pika," Pikachu laughed. Sora turned with his cheeks puffed up.

"With friends like you, who needs enemies?" Sora asked sarcastically.

"Pi," Pikachu stuck his tongue at Sora. He did the same the same to Pikachu. Kairi giggled again.

"Cut it out, you two. You'll end up being a bad influence on Togepi," Kairi said.

"Eevee," Angel said.

"Toge," Togepi chirped.

Sora took a look at Togepi and saw how happy the baby Pokémon is with her.

"Sora, I need to get dinner started with Mallow's help. Would you mind watching Togepi until it's ready?" Kairi asked.

"Sure thing, Kairi. Even though Togepi is yours, this'll give some bonding time. Right Pikachu?" Sora turned to Pikachu.

"Pikachu!" Pikachu nodded.

With that said, Kairi handed Togepi to her boyfriend and smiled.

"Yeah, and I know Angel will help out, too. Right, Angel?" Kairi asked.

"Eevee, vee," Angel said.

"Pi," Togepi chirped.

They had their very first meal together and Kairi fed Togepi some of her Pokémon food.

"Is that good, Togepi?" Kairi asked.

"Pi!" Togepi chirped.

"Glad you like it," Kairi said. "I want you to grow into a big, strong Pokémon."

The other Pokémon has taken a shine to Togepi. Pikachu even used his tail to move his tail back and forth for Togepi to play.

"Chu," Pikachu said. Angel looked at Pikachu lovingly.

Later that night, Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, Angel, and Togepi got settled for bed. Kairi took Togepi in her arms as he yawned.

"Time for bed, Togepi," Kairi said. "I'm going to sing you a song my mom sang to me when I was a baby." She started to rock Togepi gently.

(Kairi)

When you walk away

You don't hear me say

"Please, oh baby, don't go"

Simple and clean is the way that

you're making me feel tonight

It's hard to let it go

You're giving me

Too many things

Lately

You're all I need Oh, oh

You smiled at me

And said, "Don't get me wrong

I love you, but does that mean

I have to meet your father?"

When we are older you'll understand

What I meant, when I said "No"

I don't think, life is quite that simple

When you walk away

You don't hear me say

"Please, oh baby, don't go"

Simple and clean is the way that

you're making me feel tonight

It's hard to let it go

So simple and clean

The daily things

Like this and that and what is what

That keep us all busy

Are confusing me

That's when you came to me

And said, "Wish I could prove

I love you, but does that mean

I have to walk on water?"

When we are older you'll understand

It's enough when I say so

And maybe

Some things are that simple

When you walk away

You don't hear me say

"Please, oh baby, don't go"

Simple and clean is the way that

you're making me feel tonight

It's hard to let it go

Hold me

Whatever lies beyond this morning

Is a little later on

Regardless of warnings

The future doesn't scare me at all

Nothing's like before

When you walk away

You don't hear me say

"Please, oh baby, don't go"

Simple and clean is the way that

you're making me feel tonight

It's hard to let it go

Hold me

Whatever lies beyond this morning

Is a little later on

Regardless of warnings

The future doesn't scare me at all

Nothing's like before

Hold me

Whatever lies beyond this morning

Is a little later on

Regardless of warnings

The future doesn't scare me at all

Nothing's like before

Sora and Pikachu listened to the whole song. The song brought tears to his eyes.

"Such a beautiful song sang by a beautiful voice," Sora said in tears.

"Pikachu," Pikchu said also in tears.

Sora and Pikachu fell asleep happy the song had made them.

There were some wild Pokémon that were in tears as well, listening to the song being sung.

On the very next morning, Sora woke up with a big smile on his face. He laid back down and saw Kairi staring above him.

"Morning Kairi," Sora greeted.

"Morning, lazy bum," Kairi greeted back. "Figured that you'd try to sleep in."

"Nope. I just knew you would try that trick again. And you didn't disappoint me," Sora said.

An hour later, Togepi had warmed up to Sora a little. Togepi started to laugh at some of Sora's silly antics. Sora knew he had won Togepi at some point. He thought he could try to teach Togepi how to battle. Sora had a thick stick and stuck it to the ground.

"Okay, Togepi. Do it like this," Sora demonstrated a headbutt on the stick. "That's Headbutt. Now you try."

Instead of using Headbutt, Togepi just hugged the stick.

"Toge, Toge, Togepi!" Togepi chirped.

"No, no, no. Not like that! Like this!" Sora rammed his head as hard as he could at the stick only to knock himself out and have a blazing lump on his head.

"Toge, Toge," Togepi laughed.

About half an hour later, Kairi placed a bag of ice onto Sora's head to bring swelling down.

"Ouch!" Sora said. "That hurts and it's too cold!"

"Don't be such a baby," Kairi teased. "Keep that attitude up and you won't have a treat."

"Didn't know there was going to be one," Sora joked. Kairi giggled.

"You should have known better than try to teach Togepi to battle. Togepi is only just a baby," Kairi said.

"You are so right," Sora agreed. "I'm thinking of trying again when Togepi is just a little bit older. Maybe in a few years or so, when it's not hazardous to my health."

Over to Team Rocket, in a few days that followed, Meowth was polishing the egg. Jessie was reading a fashion magazine. By reading, she was looking at the pictures.

"Such a beautiful dress. How it'll work on me," Jessie said.

"There, nice and shiny," Meowth said. James then noticed something about the egg. He walked over to the Scratch Cat Pokémon.

"Meowth, you've been clinging to that egg for the last few days, and I noticed that the egg should have hatched by now," James said.

"Well, the Pokémon inside the egg is just a late bloomer," Meowth said.

"Well, whatever is in there, bit it better get cracking right now!" James said, taking the egg.

"No, you idiot! You'll smash it!" Meowth exclaimed.

"Don't be so loud!" Jessie said.

James and Meowth fought over the egg, so they accidentally dropped it. the egg shattered into a million pieces. They got on their knees.

"My baby!" Meowth gasped.

"Our paycheck!" James exclaimed.

"What did I just say about being so lou-" Jessie saw the shattered egg. She screamed. "THE EGG! WHICH ONE OF YOU DROPPED OUR PAYCHECK?!"

"It was him," James and Meowth said, pointing at each other.

"This is just great! We stole this egg for nothing," Jessie said, picking up the pieces and she saw it was a fake. "Wait a sec. This is a phony egg!"

"Wha?!" James and Meowth gasped.

"What nerve! Those twerps pulled a fast one on us! Unforgivable!" James barked.

"They won't get away with this!" Meowth hissed.

Now that Togepi has been added to the team, things are going to get more interesting, especially when they're carrying six additional Pokémon along with them.
