Chapter One-hundred and thirty-six: Rocket's Rampage
Over at Cynthia's villa, the heroes were getting in some training for their Pokémon. Ash, Bianca, Kenny, and Trip were all training for the Vertress Conference, while Dawn was helping Iris train with Dragonite to help deal with his attitude problem. During the training, Ash and Kenny were supervising Pikachu and Juan as the latter was walking the former through learning the move Grass Knot. "Your Pikachu seems to be getting the hang of Grass Knot pretty quickly, Ash," Kenny remarked, "It's a sign that he has the potential to wield the power of cringe."
Ash chuckled in good humor to how Kenny put things. "Well my Pikachu is learning from your Pikachu. The lesson probably translates better since they're both members of the same species."
Over where Trip and Bianca were having Fourze and the shiny Haxorus spar with one another, the two trainers called for a time out so they could look over to where Ash and Kenny were training. "...Hmm, I'm kind of jealous of Kenny, to be honest," Trip said.
"Because he's working with Ash?" Bianca said, "I can tell that there's something about Ash that both you and Kenny admire, using him as a way to measure yourselves."
Shrugging, Trip replied, "Well come on. I mean, Ash is-"
"Meloetta!" Meloetta cried out excitedly, leaping in and changing into its Pirouette Forme, hopping up and down while gesturing at Fourze and the shiny Haxorus to bring it on.
Trip and Bianca, as well as the other heroes, all looked at Meloetta in confusion. "...Does... does Meloetta wanna spar?" Iris asked, looking and sounding confused.
Smirking in amusement, Trip said, "I'll take the challenge." Pointing forward towards Meloetta, Trip said, "Fourze, use Thunder Punch!"
The named Electivire rushed forward, his right fist pulled back while cloaked in electricity, rushed at Meloetta, who leapt into the air to avoid the attack and then fired a Hyper Voice at Fourze, who braced himself before tanking the attack. After Fourze recovered, Trip called out, "Fourze, use Ice Punch!" The named Electivire threw a left hook, the fist glowing in an aura of icy cold energy, right into Meloetta, who leapt back in time to avoid a full hit, although it still took a grazing hit. Meloetta landed back, and looked amused that its opponent had landed a hit.
Trip was enjoying the battle, and the others who were also watching were enjoying the show. "This is gonna be good, I can tell," Trip said, "Alright, Fourze! Use Ear-"
*FWOOSH*
Trip was cut off when a Flash Cannon flew in from out of nowhere, striking the ground in front of Fourze. After that, a man came flying in on a Golurk. The two landed, and the man got off of the Golurk. "I have no idea what you villains are doing, but you will leave Meloetta alone!" the man declared.
"Yo yo yo, what the heck?" Kenny said, "What makes you think we're villains?"
Pointing at Meloetta, Trip said, "And Meloetta, believe it or not, actually wanted to fight. It was just a simple spar!"
At that point, Meloetta, who clearly recognized the man, stepped in and cried out a bit as if explaining what was going on, while occasionally gesturing to the heroes. The man, though he didn't actually understand what Meloetta was saying exactly, got the gist of it fair enough. "...Sorry," the man said to the heroes, "It's just that Meloetta and I have had some run ins with Team Rocket in the past."
"Team Rocket?!" the heroes all exclaimed in surprise.
The man nodded once in the affirmative. "Yes. Firstly, my name is Ridley. I used to live with Meloetta in the village we lived in. Everyone in our village lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when Team Rocket attacked. Attacking the village aside, Team Rocket also managed to steal Meloetta. I tried to stop them and save Meloetta, but they escaped in a helicopter with their scientist Dr. Zager. Team Rocket intended to use Meloetta's ability to summon the Abyssal Ruins."
That caught the attention of the heroes. "...Abyssal Ruins, you say?" Bianca remarked, "Well what else can you-"
"Go, go, go, go, go!"
Bianca was cut off when Team Rocket grunts suddenly surrounded the villa and the heroes. "Surrender Meloetta to us right now!" one of the Rocket grunts called out, "You do not want to know what will happen if you fail to comply!"
"We gotta get out of here!" Ridley said, taking Meloetta by the hand and trying to run away. However, they were cut off in their escape by a Golem and a Rhydon used by two of the Rocket grunts. Seeing that the Rhydon was about to use Megahorn, Ridley called out, "Golurk! I need you to-"
*trip*
Ridley was cut off when both Golem and Rhydon were tripped up by blades of grass growing over their feet and pulling them back, making them both fall over and hit the ground hard. Looking over, Ridley saw that Ash and Kenny had Pikachu and Juan both use Grass Knot. "Hot dang, Ash," Kenny said, "Your Pikachu looks to have gotten a pretty solid grasp on using Grass Knot already! Although it helps that both of those Pokémon trying to go after Meloetta are dual rock ground types that are, like, way heavier than a Pikachu."
The two Rocket grunts commanding Golem and Rhydon saw, to their annoyance, that both Golem and Rhydon were actually knocked out by the Grass Knot attacks used against them. But that was by no means going to stop the other Rocket grunts, as they proceeded to close in to try to subdue the heroes and take Meloetta from them for their undoubtedly sinister goals.
"We gotta escape with Meloetta!" Ridley called out, "You all look like tough trainers! Can some of you hold Team Rocket off, maybe take them down?"
"Leave it to me!" Kenny said, "Team Rocket shall taste the unforgiving power of cringe!"
Bianca nodded in agreement. "I'll hold Team Rocket off as well! They're literally a joke compared to Team Scorn!"
"Oh you did NOT just compare us to Team Scorn to make us come off as the inferior organization!" one of the Team Rocket grunts cried out while pointing at Bianca, sending a Golbat at her that was smacked down with a single slash from Bianca's shiny Haxorus. The cover that Kenny and Bianca were providing gave the other heroes, along with Ridley, the chance they needed to escape with Meloetta. While all that happened, Jervis pulled out a phone to make a call.
A short while later, the heroes aside from Kenny and Bianca were running with Ridley and Meloetta. "So, the whole team came out to play, huh?" Trip said ruefully as he and the others ran.
"I know," Ash said, sounding equally unamused, "Just what is it that-"
"Hold it right there, twerps!"
Ash and the others all came to a stop when they heard Jessie of the Team Rocket trio call out. Looking over, they saw Jessie, James, and Meowth standing there. James had his Yamask out at that time. "Team Rocket!" Ash called out, "You guys have sunk pretty low this time!"
"We don't care for your opinions, twerp," James said, "We're just here to do a job!" Gesturing forward, James said, "Yamask, use Will-o-wisp!"
Gesturing forward, Trip called out, "Fourze, use Fire Punch to block it!" Trip's named Electivire rushed forward, his right fist cloaked in flames, and used that fist to catch all of the fire shots fired by Yamask harmlessly.
Jessie growled in annoyance at Trip easily foiling the efforts of her and the rest of the Team Rocket trio. "Go Frillish!" Jessie said as she sent out her Frillish, "Go back up James's Yamask!"
"Mr. Popo, back up Fourze!" Trip said as he sent out his named Magmortor.
As the Team rocket trio looked like they were starting to be overwhelmed, they were relieved when a few rank and file Rocket grunts showed up. "Some of you guys need to get out of here with Meloetta!" Ridley called out, prepared to stick behind to fight off Team Rocket.
Ash nodded in understanding, then turned to look at Meloetta. "Meloetta, you need to come with me!"
"I'll go along too!" Dawn said, "I'd like to see anyone try to take Meloetta from us while I'm around!"
Ash looked at Dawn for a brief moment before nodding in agreement. "I'd be glad for the company," Ash said, right before he and Dawn took off, escorting Meloetta out of there while the others remained behind to fight off Team Rocket.
...
Ash and Dawn ran with Meloetta in their company. "What is it that Team Rocket wants with Meloetta?" Ash asked.
"If I were a guessing girl," Dawn began, "It might have something to do with the Abyssal Ruins that Ridley had mentioned earlier."
"My my, you certainly are a clever young lady."
Dawn and Ash both took pause when they heard a grown man's voice call out, then turned to see that Giovanni, the boss of Team Rocket himself, coming in with his Persian. Gesturing to the two heroes, Giovanni said, "Meloetta. Hand it over to me right now. Trust me, you children do not want to force me to beat you whelps and take Meloetta from you by force anyway."
"Oh ho ho, those sound like fightin' words," Dawn said, getting ready to send a Pokémon out to do battle.
"Pikachu, use Iron Tail!" Ash called out.
Sighing, Giovanna said, "I guess it can't be helped." Gesturing forward, Giovanni said, "Persian, use Shadow Claw!"
"Chi-Chi," Dawn said as she sent out her named Infernape, "Use Brick Break!"
Giovanni's Persian rushed at Ash's Pikachu, prepared to slash at it with Shadow Claw. However, Chi-Chi rushed in quicker and struck Persian on its head with Brick Break, the force of that super effective attack being enough to knock Persian out. Pikachu's Iron Tail went on to strike at the hover pod that Giovanni was riding in, knocking it back although it was able to regain its balance.
Giovanni scowled in annoyance as he recalled his fainted Persian. "Meddlesome brats," the boss of Team Rocket scowled, then at that moment a synthetic cube was cast from a helicopter above and trapped Ash, Dawn, Pikachu, and Chi-Chi. Seeing the heroes and their Pokémon were trapped, Meloetta who had turned invisible turned visible again out of shock. Seeing this, Giovanni smirked evilly. "Meloetta!" Giovanni called out, getting Meloetta to turn to look at him, "Come with me or else I'll have these meddlesome brats who are trapped done away with!"
Scared and worried for the heroes, Meloetta sadly agreed to go along. Giovanni then had the cube holding Ash, Dawn, Pikachu, and Chi-Chi loaded into the helicopter that had cast the synthetic cube that trapped them in the first place, before he and Meloetta got onto the helicopter themselves. "Next stop, the Abyssal Ruins," said the boss of Team Rocket, "We've got a plan to bring to fruition. Heh heh heh..." The helicopter then turned around and flew off in some odd direction.
After some decent time spent traveling, the Team Rocket helicopter reached its destination. At Giovanni's order, Meloetta's song was used to continue the plans. To the surprise of Ash and Dawn, the Abyssal Ruins were raised from the ocean floor by Meloetta's song. The two heroes, as well as Pikachu and Chi-Chi, were unable to do anything to stop the boss of Team Rocket from continuing with his plans. The helicopter landed on the raised Abyssal Ruins, and Giovanni got out. After making his way a bit, Giovanni was handed a case by a Rocket grunt who got off with him.
Opening the case, Giovanni pulled out an item that Dawn, thanks to her knowledge from her previous life, was able to identify as the Reveal Glass, a key item connected to the Forces of Nature. Holding up the Reveal Glass, Giovanni called out, "Reveal Glass! I command you! Summon here to me the three great powers!"
Ash and Dawn were barely able to see what was going on. "What's happening?" Ash asked, clearly worried about the situation he and Dawn were in.
Gently shaking her head, Dawn said, "Nothing good, that's for sure."
...
Meanwhile, the rest of the heroes, all of them having defeated the members of Team Rocket who they were dealing with although Jessie, James, and Meowth all got away and snuck off to somewhere, were sailing with all due speed to the raised Abyssal Ruins with Ridley, Jervis, and Cynthia. It had been Cynthia who Jervis had called for the moment that Team Rocket began their attack in a bid to acquire Meloetta.
As the group sailed over Undella Bay, Ridley hunched over in pain. "They're hurting Meloetta..."
"Yo dude, you okay?" Kenny asked.
"N-No," Ridley said, "They must be hurting Meloetta in some way over at the Abyssal Ruins."
"How big of a deal is what Team Rocket trying to do is?" Bianca asked.
After catching his breath, Ridley said, "Long ago, there was an ancient culture who lived at the Abyssal Ruins. They used an item called the Reveal Glass to control the Forces of Nature with wisdom."
"Forces of Nature?" Trip said, "We fought them over at Milos Island."
Ridley nodded once. "Yes. Anyway, the culture who used the Reveal Glass grew corrupt, starting infighting for the goal of using the Reveal Glass's power for their own selfish ends. Meloetta saw what all was being done, what all fighting was going on over the Reveal Glass. As such, it sealed the Reveal Glass away in the Abyssal Ruins before sinking it into the waters below."
Nodding once, Iris said, "So we can reason that Team Rocket wants to try to use Meloetta and the Reveal Glass to try to control the Forces of Nature."
Ridley nodded once in the affirmative. "It would give them the ability and power needed to rule Unova."
Bianca, a surprised look on her face, said, "...Well alrighty, then. It is a really big deal."
As the group approached the Abyssal Ruins, three portals opened up above it, and out of those portals came the (male) Forces of Nature, Thundurus, Tornadus, and Landorus. "...This is bad," Trip said. To Kenny, Trip said, "Dude, get Black ready to battle." Taking out and expanding the Master Ball that held Deelia, Trip went on, "We're gonna need to use our respective legendary dragons if we wanna save the day here." Kenny readied the Ultra Ball that held Black, then turned his attention to where the Forces of Nature were coming out from the sky.
"...I hope Dawn and Ash are okay," Kenny remarked.
...
Over at the Abyssal Ruins, Giovanni saw Thundurus, Tornadus, and Landorus come down from the darkened skies above. Holding up the Reveal Glass, Giovanni called out, "Reveal Glass! I command you! Use your powers to make the Forces of Nature assume their other forms!"
While that was going on, Ash and Dawn, still trapped in the synthetic cube, decided to break out to try to stop Giovanni. "Chi-Chi, use Fire punch to strike a single point in the cube," Dawn said.
"Pikachu," Ash said, "Strike that same point immediately afterwards with Iron Tail!"
The named Infernape pulled back a flame cloaked fist and swung it forward, striking hard and damaging a single point, both by the force of the attack and the heat from the attack softening things up a bit. Pikachu's follow up of Iron Tail then finished the job, busting the two trainers and their Pokémon out of the synthetic cube. Although Ash and Dawn were able to get out of the cube, they were soon confronted by Jessie, James, and Meowth who had somehow gotten to the Abyssal Ruins.
"There's no way we'll let you twerps interfere with the boss's plans!" Jessie said as she sent out her Woobat while James sent out his Yamask, "Team Rocket will always get the end that it wants!"
Cracking her neck, Dawn said, "I got it that you three were able to successfully steal a dozen Pokémon back in Sinnoh and get away, despite how Bertha of Sinnoh's elite four was actively trying to stop you." The tone was dangerously calm, and she gave off a likewise air that Chi-Chi was also giving off.
"Well we gotta earn our daily bread somehow!" James said, "Yamask, use Shadow Ball!"
"Woobat, use Gust!" Jessie commanded, "Blow those twerps and their Pokémon away!"
"Chi-Chi, use Fire Punch on Yamask!" Dawn ordered, "Try throwing it into Woobat!"
Rushing forward quickly, the named Infernape slugged Yamask with a devastating Fire Punch, sending it reeling into Woobat before it could pull off its Gust. As Team Rocket's Pokémon picked themselves up, Dawn called out Leni, her named Lucario. "You three..." Dawn began, her tone and the air she gave off growing more angry as she regarded the thieves before her, "...will pay."
"Need some help?" Kenny called out, making Dawn and Ash turn to see the rest of the heroes, along with Cynthia, come running up the steps of the Abyssal Ruins.
Looking over and seeing the Forces of Nature changing form, Dawn said, "You guys need to help deal with the Forces of Nature! They might go out of control!"
The heroes aside from Dawn and Ash who were keeping an eye on the Team Rocket trio sent out a group of their Pokémon to help deal with the now fully transformed Forces of Nature who were now in their Therian Formes. Bianca sent out her Klinklang, Iris sent out her Dragonite, Cilan sent out his Pansage, and Cynthia sent out her Garchomp. That all said nothing about how Trip and Kenny sent out Dialga and Giratina respectively. As Trip was about to say how the other Pokémon ought to rally around Deelia and Black, Iris's Dragonite flew off right towards the transformed Forces of Nature despite Iris calling out to it.
With Tornadus and Landorus using Air Slash and Stone Edge respectively, they easily overwhelmed Dragonite and sent it crashing down into the Abyssal Ruins. As Dragonite tried pushing itself back up, Iris ran in and stood in front of Dragonite; it saw that Iris did this because Thundurus tried to come in to attack it. Dragonite was surprised to see Iris go so far for its sake, how she refused to move even though the transformed Thundurus was going to attack her anyway with a strong electrical attack, only for Cynthia's Garchomp to swing in and tank the electrical attack instead. Being part ground type allowed Garchomp to take even mighty electric attacks like that without worry.
After Cynthia's Garchomp had saved Iris and Dragonite like that, Dragonite who picked itself back up went over to Iris and nuzzled against her, before looking up at where the Forces of Nature were flying. Dragonite looked to Iris, gave her a nod, then turned to look back at the Forces of Nature. "...You're going to listen to me now, Dragonite?" Iris asked, drawing an affirmative nod from her powerful Pokémon. "Well alright!" Iris cheered, "Now we can start fighting back!"
Seeing that the heroes were rallying, Giovanni scoffed. "Like you lot can stop me now!" Giovanni called out, "I command the Forces of Nature!"
"Uhh, yeah," Kenny replied, "And me, Trip, and Dawn command the Creation Trio of Sinnoh!" Pointing forward, Kenny called out, "Black, use Dragon Claw on Thundurus!"
"Deelia, use Ice Beam on Landorus!" Trip called out.
The named Giratina, in its Origin Forme, rushed at the transformed Thundurus and struck it with Dragon Claw, smacking it down to the Abyssal Ruins. And the named Dialga blasted the transformed Landorus with Ice Beam, dealing massive damage that made it likewise fall down. "Does Tornadus have to pick up the slack for you two?" Giovanni snarled at Thundurus and Landorus, "Fine!" To Tornadus, Giovanni said, "Tornadus, use-"
"Tsukune, use Power Gem on Tornadus!"
A barrage of gem-like lights shot out and struck the transformed Tornadus, knocking it down into the Abyssal Ruins where Thundurus and Landorus laid. Rushing up to the scene to meet up with the rest of the heroes were Ash and Dawn; Dawn had recalled Chi-Chi but called out Tsukune, her named Palkia who was now flying above Dawn and Ash. "The bozos who pulled a fast one right under Bertha's nose back in Sinnoh have been defeated," Dawn said to the others. Turning to look where the three defeated Forces of Nature laid, Dawn said, "I guess this is where Team Rocket's plans come to an end."
"NEVER!" Giovanni exclaimed, drawing all eyes to him. "I will not be made a fool of!" the boss of Team Rocket cried out, "I will see my plans through to the end! I will see that Team Rocket succeeds! MY TEAM ROCKET WILL NEVER FAIL!" Holding up the Reveal Glass, Giovanni yelled out, "Forces of Nature! I command you! Unleash your true power and blow those would be heroes away!"
The Forces of Nature, despite their injuries, got back up a their eyes glowed fully red. After they were back up, they unleashed an onslaught of attacks that the Creation Trio held off with relative ease; empowered or not, the Forces of Nature were still a weaker trio than the Creation Trio, and the Forces of Nature unlike those legendary dragons were still injured. As the mass number of legendary Pokémon got ready to do battle again, everyone heard the pained cry of Meloetta sound out, alerting all of the heroes at the Abyssal Ruins.
"We need to find Meloetta!" Ash cried out as he followed the sounds of Meloetta's pained cries, with Ridley following along behind him.
Seeing that Ash and Ridley were going towards where Meloetta was bound, Giovanni called out, "Oh no you don't, you fools!" Pointing in the direction of Ash and Ridley, Giovanni called out, "Tornadus! After them!"
The transformed Tornadus, being controlled by Giovanni who wielded the Reveal Glass, turned on its heels and proceeded to fly after Ash and Ridley. However, Dawn called out, "Tsukune! Cut Tornadus off!" Before Tornadus was able to get a dozen feet away, the named Palkia immediately slid in from the left, getting right up into the face of the transformed, controlled Tornadus. "Use Flamethrower!" Dawn called out, prompting Tsukune to spew a potent fiery breath weapon attack at Tornadus, who went down again and this time stayed down.
Similarly, on Trip's command, Deelia struck Landorus with another Ice Beam. Legendary Pokémon or not, Landorus is still dual ground flying type, meaning it can't take very many ice type attacks. And those ice type attacks, although not coming from an ice type Pokémon, did come from a Pokémon who like Landorus itself was also a legendary. That second Ice Beam from the named Dialga made sure that Landorus wasn't going to be getting back up for the rest of this chaos, even if Giovanni tried to empower it and the other Forces of Nature.
Thundurus tried to attack, but Black got up in its face again and struck it down with Dragon Claw on Kenny's order. There was very little that Thundurus, even though it was transformed and empowered by Giovanni's efforts, would be able to do against the legendary Pokémon Giratina. The Dragon claw attack smacked Thundurus back down to the Abyssal Ruins, this time making sure that Thundurus wouldn't be getting back up. Despite what all Giovanni had done, he had just seen all of his efforts in his plans for Unova foiled by some would be heroes who were little more than whelps.
"Sir," Dr. Zager said, "We need to get out of here. There's no way that we can win here at this point."
Growling in fustration, Giovanni said, "Fine. We'll have to regroup and-"
"Leni!" Dawn called out, "Use Psychic on that man with the short dark brown hair! Pull him over here so he can't get away!"
Suddenly, a psychic aura surrounded Giovanni and lifted him up. The boss of Team Rocket struggled to get out but it was no use; he was quickly yanked over to where the heroes stood and dropped to the ground near where Dawn stood with her named Lucario. Dawn then called back out her named Infernape. "Chi-Chi," Dawn said, then added while gesturing to Giovanni, "This man here needs to take a nap. Knock him out."
"INFERNAPE!"
*HUWAPAP*
A quick slugging punch from Chi-Chi, not an actual Pokémon attack but just a punch, right into Giovanni's face knocked the boss of Team Rocket out cold. "The Sinnoh twerp girl just knocked out and captured the boss!" Meowth cried out, "We need to-"
Meowth was cut off when Deelia fired a Flash Cannon attack at the Team Rocket Trio, sending them blasting off again. Dr. Zager, seeing that things were going to hell for Team Rocket at the Abyssal Ruins, tried to get away but was quickly yanked back and knocked out in a manner similar as to what happened to Giovanni. What few rank and file Rocket grunts were similarly also being rounded up by the reborn trainers, with Dawn saying that they needed to be rounded up and arrested.
The Reveal Glass, which Giovanni dropped when he was yanked back by Dawn's named Lucario, emitted a faint glow where it laid. After that glowing faded, the Forces of Nature changed back to their original forms. Dawn, her instincts telling her to not trust it, proceeded to pick up the Reveal Glass by taking out a towel and covering the Reveal Glass with it, picking it up with the towel and wrapping it up without ever looking at it directly. At that time, Ridley and Ash, the latter carrying Meloetta who was clearly out of it in his arms, came upon the scene.
Looking around as all present members of Team Rocket were being defeated and rounded up, Ash asked, "What's going on?"
Dawn turned to look at Ash. "...The beginning of paying Team Rocket back for what all evil they've done."
END, CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED AND THIRTY-SIX
Author's notes;
This chapter sees the arc with the Forces of Nature, Meloetta, and the Abyssal Ruins covered. Here, things go much easier for the heroes due to a mix of there being more heroes and the fact they brought stronger Pokémon. Additionally, Dawn is able to start getting some payback on Team Rocket for how they succeeded in stealing those Pokémon back in Sinnoh despite how Bertha of Sinnoh's elite four was hot on their trail. The next chapter will see business here wrapped up before a few other issues are covered, but let's just say that some trouble will be cleared out of the way from that point moving forward.
...Although it will have the unintended side-effect of clearing room for new trouble to take the place of the old trouble. Oh, and just like I said last time, I hope those of you playing Scarlet and Violet are having fun. Me? I'm close to clearing all of the main game at the time this chapter went up.
