Chapter One-hundred and forty-one: Opelucid Obstruction, part two
Captain Hiroaki, First Captain of Team Scorn's Longsword Sector, led a group of a dozen Team Scorn grunts plus his Captain's Assistant Ayana out of the home of Opelucid City's mayor, Drayden. "Well that was incredibly easy," Hiroaki remarked dryly, "The objective that we were looking for was laying right on the desk in the man's study, right in plain view."
"Yeah, Captain Hiroaki," one of the male grunts said, "With the primary objective in our hands, the mission here in Opelucid City is already a success."
Hiroaki nodded in the affirmative as he led his group away. However, he didn't get too far before he and the others all heard a powerful older male voice call out, "I'll be having words with you thieves!" The group of Team Scorn members turned to see Drayden, accompanied by Iris, come charging up at them. "I have no idea what it is that you thieves are planning to take from my home, but you won't get away with it!" Drayden called out as he sent his Druggigon out to battle.
"Go, Emolga!" Iris called out as she sent in her Emolga to back up Drayden's Druddigon.
Hiroaki, as the nameless grunts sent out one Pokémon each (all of them common fare for villainous team members in Unova to have) to do battle, arched a wry eyebrow at Drayden and Iris. "...Really? As tough as I know you are, you really came here bringing just yourself and a young girl. Counting everyone in my group here, we've got you outnumbered seven to one." The dozen grunts, plus Hiroaki himself and Ayana, totaled fourteen; fourteen against the two of Drayden and Iris can be reduced to seven to one. "Do you really think you can overcome such odds?"
Seeing the grunts move to surround both him and Iris, Drayden said, "Quanity will only get you so far, fiend. I'll show to you why Iris and I alone are more than what's needed to take you down!"
Hiroaki's eyes narrowed at what the Spartan Mayor had just said. "...Iris, huh?" Turning to look at Iris, Hiroaki said, "...Yes, now I see why you struck me as familiar. You're that Iris girl from the incident on Milos Island. You're also one of the companions of Dawn Berlitz, if I'm not mistaken." Hiroaki gave Iris an unamused look. "You had shouted at Ayana when she revealed that Admin Swordsman is her cousin that she's related to a murderer."
"That's because she is!" Iris yelled, "That jerk killed Bianca's dad in cold blood!"
Shrugging, Hiroaki said, "You say that he 'killed Bianca's dad', he says that he 'liberated Bianca'."
Looking around, Iris noticed that Ayana was now missing. "...Where did that murderer's fatty cousin run off to anyway?"
"I gave her a silent hand signal to go backup Admin Swordsman while you and Drayden here were distracted with me," Hiroaki explained, "She also has the objective that Team Scorn came here to get, so we've already succeeded." Shrugging again, Hiroaki went on, "Now all that Team Scorn is doing is fighting our way out of here."
Drayden and Iris went wide eyed with surprise. "You fiends already stole something from me?" Growling in annoyance, Drayden said, "Then we'll just have to beat you here then find that girl and take back whatever it is that she stole from my home!"
"Even if you do beat us all here," Hiroaki said, "One, we'll have burnt up enough of your time to give Ayana a significant head start, and two, even if you DO win here AND catch up to Ayana, you'll be too exhausted to take back what we stole." Drayden, as well as Iris, both growled in frustration, knowing full well that Team Scorn had them stuck in a tight spot here. They would have to fight their way out anyway, but with twelve Team Scorn grunts and a Team Scorn Captain all occupying their time, it would take a while to resolve things there.
But they were a Dragon Master and a Dragon Master-in-training. They would get through.
Haruka and her parents over at the family mansion in the wealthy elite neighborhood of Opelucid City were surprised when, while hiding in a room that Haruka's father tried to barricade in order to keep Team Scorn who was raiding their home from getting to them, the doors were busted down and in walked a uniquely dressed member of Team Scorn. A boy who Haruka remembered as Yoshitsugu, who she had been helped by long ago and she had paid him back for his help. At Yoshitsugu's side was an Aegislash, who was keeping its eye on the humans its trainer was confronting.
Haruka's mother, the overly prideful and full of herself socialite that she was, quickly regained herself after her initial shock and surprise as she pointing an accusing finger at Yoshitsugu. "What in blazes are you going on about, you criminal?!" Haruka's mother demanded, "What do you mean by 'liberation'?"
Yoshitsugu cracked his neck, rolled his shoulders a bit. "...I'm here to break some shackles," Yoshitsugu said, his tone dangerously calm. Pointing with his sword at both of Haruka's parents, the Team Scorn Admin went on, "And there's two sets of shackles right here."
"Are you threatening me?!" Haruka's mother demanded, "I'll have you know that I have more than enough wealth and connections to get you put away for life for so much as daring to threaten me!" Stomping right over to Yoshitsugu, Haruka's mother ranted on while pointing at him with her right index finger, "I am your better, you foul little boy! You ought to be kissing the very ground that I walk upon! I will not stand for-"
*SLASH*
"GAAAAHHHH!"
Yoshitsugu cut Haruka's mother off mid-sentence by, with a single swipe of his longsword that he had out, slicing of most of her right index finger, leaving a bleeding stump barely half an inch long. As Haruka's mother fell to her knees and cried out in pain, clasping her left hand over her right to try to stem off the bleeding, Yoshitsugu raised a foot up and shoved it right into Haruka's mother, kicking the overbearing woman away with enough force to send her skidding halfway across the (fairly large) parlor room that they were all in. It was the first time that Haruka had ever seen her mother on the losing end of... well, anything.
It emboldened Haruka a little, actually.
Yoshitsugu glared dryly yet angrily at the wounded socialite. "...Figures that someone like you would blatantly say that most others are below her." Haruka's mother just laid there on the floor, unable to get up mostly due to writhing in pain.
"Hey, what was the deal with attacking my wife like that?!" Haruka's father demanded as he took a cautious step back, knowing full well that he shouldn't try to confront a guy who not only was brave enough to confront and fight back against Haruka's mother, but also had a longsword out.
Turning his attention to Haruka's father, Yoshitsugu said, "She thought that it was a good idea to threaten me, and to my face no less, that she'd see to having me captured by the authorities. And don't go thinking that she's the only one here I'm going to attack." Then, to the surprise of Haruka's father as well as Haruka herself, the Team Scorn Admin rushed forward and, with a single powerful thrust, shoved his longsword through the chest of Haruka's father, making him cry out in pain as his warm, rich life crimson began sputtering from wounds in his chest and on his back.
Yoshitsugu then placed his foot on Haruka's father's chest to shove him off and pull his longsword out, before swinging his blade to claim the mortally wounded man's head. After he had sent Haruka's father's head rolling, Yoshitsugu stood there before he began speaking to Haruka herself. "...I know full well what you want to say to me," Yoshitsugu began, "You want to tell me-"
"-To not forget to kill my mother as well."
Yoshitsugu actually took pause at what he heard Haruka say just now. "I... was actually going to say that you wanted to tell me that I'm a monster for killing one of your parents despite how they've run every last detail of your life without so much as considering you and what you'd want." The surprise in his tone was obvious and sincere. Turning to look at the girl who long ago had helped to ensure his freedom would continue, Yoshitsugu asked, "You... you really aren't that bothered by the fact that I not only had killed your father, but am planning to also kill your mother? It doesn't bother you that I'm essentially going to orphan you?"
"Widow me as well after this," Haruka said, her tone and expression making it clear that she was serious, "The husband that my parents forced me to marry has also run and controlled my life just as much."
Yoshitsugu... was not actually prepared for this. He fully expected Haruka to cry, to yell and scream at him, over how he not only had just murdered one of her parents, but was fully intending to do the same to her remaining parent. He expected her to call him a monster, to tell him to go away and never see her again. But instead, the first thing she said, and with complete sincere seriousness to it, was to tell him to not forget to kill her mother. Haruka had also asked him to kill her husband as well, something that also took the Team Scorn Admin by complete and total surprise.
Yoshitsugu actually had to ask to verify what Haruka said. "...I'm... sorry. But did you... did you actually ask me to-"
"Yes," Haruka said, still one-hundred percent serious, "You and what followers you've brought with you can take what all you want from both this mansion and what all is over at the manor I live at with my husband. Wait, you're not planning to kill me as well, are you?"
"I... was only planning to liberate you," Yoshitsugu said, still taken a bit by surprise by how... how accepting... that Haruka was being, "To break you from the shackles that keep you from living your life as you want. You helped to make sure I remained free, and now I'm wanting to repay the favor by freeing you." Turning to more fully face Haruka, Yoshitsugu said, "I'm sorry, but are you REALLY that okay with me killing your parents? As well as being okay with me potentially killing your husband?"
"...Do you have any idea how much my life had sucked because, aside from when I gave you those evolutionary stones ages ago, I had not once ever carried out one act freely of my own will?" Haruka asked, "Every other act I was made to do by my parents and later the husband they forced me to marry, every choice I made either was made for me by them or they forced me to pick they choice they wanted me to pick." Pointing at where her mother laid on the floor, a look of shock on her plump face as Haruk went on, Haruka continued, "Hell, that fat sack of crap over there even forced my first Pokémon, a Purrloin who's now my Liepard, onto me. I actually wanted a Lillipup, but she says it's not a 'fitting Pokémon for a high society lady', or words to that effect."
Yoshitsugu turned his attention to where Haruka's mother laid on the floor. "...Oh really." Then, seeing Yoshitsugu walk over to her, Haruka's mother screamed in fright for the rest of her life, which was only a few seconds as Yoshitsugu, upon reaching her, swung his longsword down at her neck, slicing clean through it and sending her head rolling away. Turning to look at Haruka, Yoshitsugu said, "If you're really serious about me going after your husband, then you're going to have to show me where I can find him. After that, I can, if you want me to, take you to where Lillipup can be found in the wild here in Unova, help you find and catch one, then leave you to live your life as you see fit."
Haruka hung her head, her shoulders shook, as she chuckled a bit. Then, she threw her head back as she began laughing. After all of this time, after essentially the whole of her life so far, Haruka was finally going to be free. She was finally going to be able to live her life the way that she wanted to live it. Yoshitsugu, at first a bit on the surprised side, relaxed upon realizing that Haruka was finally letting out so many bottled up emotions. "...You're probably going to wanna take cover for the rest of the raid here on Opelucid City," Yoshitsugu said to the laughing Haruka, "Especially since I'm going to-"
"-Stop right there!"
Yoshitsugu was cut off, as was Haruka from her laughing although she was still chuckling a little, when they heard a female voice call out. Turning around, Yoshitsugu saw Bianca standing right there, in the doorway where the double doors leading into that parlor room used to stand before Yoshitsugu had his Aegislash bust them down. The Team Scorn Admin arched a wry eyebrow as Bianca, standing there with a pokéball in hand, looked primed to challenge him to a battle. "...Ah, you're that girl who I liberated back in Nimbasa City," Yoshitsugu said.
"Yeah, by killing my father!" Bianca screamed.
"He was threatening to take you back home and to make you live your life by his rule," Yoshitsugu pointed out, "I saved you from having your life run for you. Your life is now your own to live as you see fit."
"Yes, I wanted to be able to be a Pokémon trainer," Bianca said, "But not at the cost of my father's life!" Getting into a stance for battle, Bianca went on, "Now I'm here to kick your ass and turn you over to the authorities!"
Yoshitsugu, arching a wry eyebrow, replied by saying, "Why?"
Bianca actually took pause at the Team Scorn Admin's question. "Why?" Bianca said when she regained her sense of self, "What do you mean why? Don't tell me that you, a person who advocates for others to live their lives as they see fit, is objecting to me wanting to take you down!"
Gently shaking his head, Yoshitsugu replied, "Do not mistake my confusion for objection. If what you say you're going to do is something that you truly wish to do of your own volition, then by no means will I object." Gesturing to Bianca, Yoshitsugu went on, "The reason that I asked you why is because I am honestly confused. Why do you want to avenge a man who, by all accounts, was going to take your freedom to live your life as you want away and make you live by his strict rule?"
"HE WAS MY FATHER, DAMN IT!" Bianca yelled, tears starting to stream down the side of his face. Tossing up the pokéball that she held, Bianca yelled, "Go, Klinklang!"
After Bianca's Klinklang came out to battle, Yoshitsugu sighed. Gesturing for Aegislash to move in to battle, Yoshitsugu said while sheaving his longsword away, "Looks like we're in for a battle, Aegislash." After Aegislash moved in to face Bianca's Klinklang, both were surprised when a Liepard was sent out to join Aegislash in the battle as an ally. Turning to see Haruka walk up to help him, Yoshitsugu asked, "Umm, what are you doing?"
"Helping you," Haruka said, "Because I want to."
Bianca was taken aback by surprise by some girl she didn't know willingly throwing her hat in with the likes of Team Scorn. Yoshitsugu was also a bit surprised, but seeing that Haruka was now trying to live her now free life as she wanted to, he gave an amused chuckle. "...Well I'm not one to turn down help." The two then turned their attention onto the battle against Bianca, who saw that she was at a major disadvantage.
She also wanted to know what Haruka was even thinking, willingly siding with Team Scorn.
Over at Opelucid City's City Hall, the heroes aside from Iris, Bianca, and Kenny were battling the loads of Team Scorn grunts that were there. "This is just like when Blackthorn City was attacked by Team Scorn over in the Johto region while Kenny and I were there!" Dawn yelled as Tsukune had used Surf to wipe out a fairly large group of Pokémon being used by a number of Team Scorn grunts.
Ash, after his Pikachu took out a Team Scorn grunt's Patrat, called out, "Cilan, Iris, and I heard about that attack on the news! You and Kenny were there for it?"
"Speaking of Kenny," Trip said after Myde shot down a Team Scorn grunt's Woobat with Ice Beam, "You think that he and Bianca will be fine? I mean Bianca went off chasing the appearance of the guy who killed her dad, so..."
Cilan, after his Crustle took out another Team Scorn grunt's Patrat, called out, "I think that we ought to worry about the battling here, instead of what battling that Kenny, Bianca, and Iris may get up to here while Team Scorn is attacking Opelucid City!"
"Oh, that's right!" Ash said, "Iris is helping Drayden out over where a bunch of Team Scorn members are trying to raid Drayden's home!"
Dawn, after Tsukune took out another group of Pokémon being used by Team Scorn, said, "And that reminds me! What could possibly be at Drayden's home that Team Scorn would care enough to send a significant portion of the forces they brought here to Opelucid City to raid?"
Ash, after Pikachu took out another Pokémon being used by Team Scorn, called back, "It doesn't matter what it is over at Drayden's home that Team Scorn wants to get their greedy mitts on! They're going to fail to get it!"
After Tsukune took out another wave of Pokémon being used by Team Scorn, Dawn couldn't help but worry. Sure, Iris and Drayden were both strong trainers, there's no denying that. But it's just the two of them alone going to deal with the Team Scorn raid on Drayden's home. There's bound to be loads of Team Scorn members over at Drayden's home, so Drayden and Iris may find themselves overwhelmed by sheer numbers. There's also no telling if they'll succeed in keeping Team Scorn from stealing whatever it is that Drayden has that they want; hell, for all Dawn knew, Team Scorn may have successfully taken it before Drayden and Iris even reached them.
This was Team Scorn that they were talking about; there was simply no predicting them.
...
Over at Drayden's house, Drayden and Iris were standing before the gathered masses of Team Scorn members, which included Captain Hiroaki. Good news for Drayden and Iris was that they've defeated all of the Team Scorn grunts and got Hiroaki down to just one remaining Pokémon. Bad news, Drayden and Iris were down to just one Pokémon each, Drayden's Haxorus and Iris's Dragonite, and both of them were exhausted to the point one or two decent hits on each of them would take them out of the fight. As for Hiroaki's last Pokémon, Bisharp, it not only was literally just sent out meaning it was fresh as a daisy, but it also resisted dragon due to being part steel.
Hiroaki smirked in amusement as he saw that he and the men he had with him were able to get Drayden and Iris so worn down. "Well, well, well! Ain't this a sight for sore eyes! It looks like we're about to defeat not only the local gym leader, but also one of Dawn Berlitz's companions!"
"You seem to place a lot of stock in me and my friends on the basis that Dawn is one of said friends," Iris remarked.
Hiroaki narrowed his gaze ever so slightly. "She's the Champion of Sinnoh, not to mention how she owns a legendary Pokémon, and she's frequently interfered with acts that Team Scorn has tried carrying out. Yeah, we of Team Scorn are cautious."
"You're also losers who are about to lose here," Iris scowled, "In case you haven't noticed, we've got your last Pokémon outnumbered two to one!"
"Two exhausted dragons, as powerful as they respectively are, can only do so much," Hiroaki said, "Especially to an opponent who resists dragon. And remember what I said earlier, about how even if you DO win here, Team Scorn's already accomplished the objective of stealing that old book from Drayden's place."
"Old book?" Drauden said, "You went through all of this trouble for just one old book that I ha-" Drayden then took pause, thinking about something, before his eyes went wide with wild worry. "You fiends stole the book on Reshiram's legend!"
Hiroaki, with a knowing smirk, nodded a few times in the affrimative. "It really does detail quite a lot, including some details that will prove useful to Team Scorn's goal of encountering Reshiram so we can set up the Boss's Assistant to capture it."
Growling in fustration, Iris yelled, "Not on our watch! Dragonite, use Flamethrower!"
Gesturing forward, Drayden called out, "Haxorus, use Rock Smash!"
"Bisharp, use Night Slash on Haxorus!" Hiroaki called out. The two dragons, mighty as they were, were still exhausted. But Bisharp was fresh, and with said freshness it rushed forward and slashed at Haxorus with Night Slash, doing enough damage to knock it out. Additionally, due to the angle it was at around Haxorus, Bisharp was able to avoid getting hit directly by Dragonite's Flamethrower, only getting a grazing hit along the outer side of its left foot. However, that grazing hit was still super effective, and it also managed to inflict a burn.
Recalling his fainted Haxorus, Drayden said, "I'm sorry, Iris. But you're going to have to tango with this one alone."
"Got it," Iris said, then turned back to face the battle before saying, "Dragonite, use Flamethrower again!"
"Bisharp, use Night Slash!" Hiroaki called out.
Still faster, Bisharp struck Dragonite with a Night Slash attack that, although hampered by Bisharp flinching in pain from its burn, still dealt a fairly notable hit on the worn out Dragonite, who barely was able to get off another Flamethrower on it. The clash of Bisharp using Night Slash and Dragonite using Flamethrower was repeated, but this time it ended with both Bisharp and Dragonite going down. Although they didn't end up defeating Team Scorn in the end, neither did Drayden and Iris lose to them flat out.
After both Bisharp and Dragonite were recalled, Hiroaki said, "Well now, ain't this a surprise. Our respective sides here wiped each other out in a mutual double knock out." Smirking a bit in amusement, Hiroaki went on, "But I'd say that Team Scorn is still the more overall victorious side here. We accomplished our objective of stealing the old book that has info to help us get Reshiram before the both of you even got here, and kept the both of you distracted for more than long enough to ensure that Ayana was able to get away."
"Why are you doing all of this?!" Iris practically screamed, "Why does Team Scorn have to go after a legendary dragon Pokémon?! Are you guys trying to be enough of a threat to make the world at large fear you?!"
Hiroaki shrugged. "Dunno. I've got no clue what the big man's ultimate plans are. Hell, I doubt that most of the Admins have much of an idea, and even the big man's assistant probably only has an inkling of an idea as to what the endgame's going to be." Giving Iris, as well as Drayden, a knowing look, Hiroaki went on, "But I will say this. When, not if but when, Team Scorn accomplishes its endgame goal, you all had better be ready to get down on your hands and knees and beg Team Scorn for what all mercy we'd be incline to dole out."
Drayden, at that declaration, gave a sarcastic bark of laughter. "That's a good joke, villain!" Giving Hiroaki a serious look, Drayden said, "You and your fellow criminals in Team Scorn must be foolish if you all think the world at large will simply roll over and let you fiends do as you please! Pokémon trainers can be notoriously stubborn on the matter of giving up! It's not us who should be ready, it's Team Scorn who needs to be ready! Ready for the world at large to fight back against you sorry lot with all that it has, even if it will be to the bitter end! I actually pity you for the troubles that lay ahead of you!"
"Ha! Now I'm the one who finds myself laughing!" Hiroaki boasted, "Saying that it's Team Scorn who ought to watch its back, you saying that you pity Team Scorn!" Gesturing to the surrounding Team Scorn grunts, Hiroaki said, "Men, we're out of here. We got what we came for, so there's no point hanging around." Iris tried to stop even one Team Scorn member from leaving, but Drayden held her back with a hand on his shoulder. Both sides were out of Pokémon who could fight, but while it was just him and Iris on their side, Team Scorn had twelve men and their Captain, a total of thirteen people.
With numbers like that, along with the twin facts that Drayden though strong is an older man and Iris is a young girl, there was no need to do the math to know what would happen if the two sides resorted to trying to physically attack one another directly. Hiroaki shot Drayden a compliment on his showing of competency here before he and his men were out of earshot, saying that it was wise to both refrain from trying to continue the fighting any further and to take advantage of the generosity that Team Scorn was showing by willingly taking off and not trying to trouble them further.
After Team Scorn was gone, Iris looked disappointed. "I can't believe it. Even though neither of us actually won the battle, Team Scorn still managed to get some sort of win against us anyway."
"They're a more complicated lot than that horrid Team Rocket group you and your friends helped to successfully dismantle," Drayden said, sounding similarly disappointed. The spartan mayor of Opelucid City gently shook his head. "...And that level of complication makes them all the more dangerous of a threat that needs to be dealt with."
END, CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED AND FORTY-ONE
Author's notes;
This chapter sees a lot of Team Scorn action in Opelucid City, including the primary main goal of getting something from Drayden's home which turned out to be an old book with a lot of info that could help Team Scorn with its goals of reaching Reshiram so that Ayane can catch it. There was also Admin Swordsman, also known as Yoshitsugu, liberating Haruka by killing her parents. The admin was actually sincerely surprised when Haruka asked him to not only make sure he got both her mother and father, but also to get her husband who they forced her to marry. But that'll have to wait because Bianca confronted them. How that will go will be seen in the next chapter, so don't adjust your set.
