Episode 62: Uno, Zapdos, Tres
Where we last left off, Sora has won his seventh Gym Badge, and he begins to prepare for his eighth and final Gym battle.
They decided to head there by boat, so they began to hear for the dock. While they were walking, Ventus sees something flat on the ground.
"Look!" Ventus said, pointing to the thing.
"What?" Aqua asked. She saw the thing move, making Aqua gasp. Sora, Kairi, Terra, Pikachu, Angel, and Togepi saw it move as well.
"Is that what I think it is?" Terra asked.
"If you think it's a Heartless, you could be right," Sora said. They follow the thing where it was going until they stopped in front of an old mansion. "It went in there."
"You're not going to follow it inside, are you?" Aqua asked.
"Looks that way, Aqua. If there are other Heartless inside, we'll have to be ready. You three should wait out here," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"And take care of Togepi for me," Kairi said, handing Togepi to Aqua. The bluenette takes the Spike Ball Pokémon in her arms and nodded.
"Okay. Just be careful," Aqua said.
With that said, the couple and their partners walk inside the old mansion. Once they entered inside, they saw it was empty. It looked decrepit and burned-down. They wondered what could have happened.
"Kairi, you don't think the Heartless has something to do with his, do you?" Sora asked.
"Honestly, I was gonna ask you the same question. But if there are Heartless in here, then we could be in for a handful of trouble," Kairi said.
"I hope not, Kairi," Sora said.
"Chu," Pikachu said.
"Vee," Angel said. Her ears perked and she turned to see the thing from before move. "Eevee!" Angel points the thing. Sora, Kairi, and Pikachu sees it head for one of the rooms.
"There it goes," Sora said. They chase after it into the room it enters. They step inside and they see nothing. They only saw what looks like a table and a couple of chairs. They enter inside and looked around. "Come out, come out, wherever you-" Sora was cut off when a Shadow appeared before him, "-are?" Several Shadows appear around them. Sora and Kairi summoned their Keyblades and uses them to fight back against the Heartless.
"You and Terra were right to suspect the Heartless," Kairi said.
"Yeah, but if we don't fight them off, we might tell him afterwards," Sora said.
"You're right. Let's do this thing," Kairi said.
Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel began to fight off the attacking Heartless. The couple swings their Keyblades at the Shadows, making them dissolve into the darkness. Pikachu and Angel made good use of Iron Tail, using them as swords. They kept on fighting off the Heartless as they kept coming. Their numbers were quickly dwindling as Sora and Kairi struck each one of them down. Just then, Mega Shadows appeared. Sora and Kairi have let out Tentacruel and Clefable to help out. They kept it up until there was one Shadow left.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu exclaimed, getting Sora and Kairi's attention.
"We got a runner!" Kairi said.
"Not for long!" Sora said, chasing after it. The couple and their Pokémon chased after the Heartless. The Shadow led them upstairs. It goes into another room, so Sora was the first to go in. He gave the Heartless the finishing blow. "Gotcha." He looked and he saw what looks like an old study. He then sees what looks like an old diary sitting in the desk. Sora saw it was opened and he read what was on it. His eyes got wide when he saw what was written on it. Kairi and the Pokémon enters inside it.
"Did you get it, Sora?" Kairi asked.
"Yeah, but look at this," Sora said, handing her the diary.
"Sora, this is someone else's diary. You should know better than to invade someone's privacy," Kairi scolded.
"I don't think it was written by some girl with self-esteem issues," Sora said. "Have a look." Kairi knew it was wrong, and she started to read the diary.
July 5
It has been one week since we have arrived in the jungles of Faraway Island. Just today while we were exploring the jungle, we came across something I could not have believed unless I had witnessed it with my own eyes! The legendary Pokémon, Mew.
Of all the Pokémon we could have encountered, we have come across what is said to be the ancestor of all Pokémon. Some people say that Mew is an extinct species, while others believed Mew never existed at all. But I now know they were wrong.
July 10
It has been 5 days since we have rediscovered Mew, but we have come across something else. An old temple of Mew. It was an incredible sight to beheld.
We also came across a single eyelash that we believe to belong to Mew itself. I decided that this required some research, and determine the finds.
February 6
After months of hard work, we have successfully created a new kind of Pokémon from the eyelash of Mew we have found on Faraway Island.
Due to the modifications we have made on Mew's DNA sample, we have decided to name this new Pokémon, Mewtwo. It shall be classified as the Genetic Pokémon.
September 1
I have failed to foresee the consequences of my arrogance. My fellow researchers and I have failed to take notice of Mewtwo's vicious tendencies. Now, it is too late.
Mewtwo's powers have grown too powerful. It's beyond even us…
Kairi's eyes went wide when she finished reading the contents.
"Mew and Mewtwo?" Kairi asked.
"Mew I heard of, but I never heard of Mewtwo. Have you, Kairi?" Sora asked.
"Not really," Kairi said. She took out her Pokédex to look up Mewtwo. "Okay, here we go." She attempts to find Mewtwo's data, but her Pokédex says otherwise.

"No sufficient data?" Kairi asked.
"Let me try," Sora said, taking out his Pokédex. He tried to look up the information on Mewtwo, only to end up with the same results.

"So much for that idea," Sora said, putting his Pokédex away.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"I think we should let Professor Oak know about this," Kairi said.
"You're right. We should," Sora said. Just when Sora was about to give Professor Oak a ring, his smartphone starts ringing. Sora sees it's Professor Oak calling him. "What a coincidence, I was about to call him." He answered it. "Hey, professor."
"Sora, my boy. Glad I reached you. I must say, the Articuno you sent me was a real surprise," Professor Oak said.
"I was surprised just as you," Sora said.
"I see. But that is not the reason I'm calling," Professor Oak admitted. "The reason I'm calling is because I have been hearing rumors of sightings of Zapdos in the old power plant."
"Zapdos?" Sora asked.
"Yes. So far, that is the only known sighting. So, I'm requesting that you look into it for me," Professor Oak said.
"Sure, we'll look into it. We were going to head for Viridian City anyway," Sora said.
"Wonderful. I knew I could count on you," Professor Oak said.
"Anyway, I was about to -" Sora was cut off.
"I'm sorry to put this on your plate, but after your encounter with Articuno, I couldn't turn to anyone else but you," Professor Oak said.
"It's not a problem. I'll look right into it and I'll let you know if something happens," Sora said.
"I'll expect the results of your efforts," Professor Oak said, hanging up.
"It looks like what we found out will have to wait for right now," Sora said.
"It looks like it," Kairi said. "I just can't believe someone would create a Pokémon like this," Kairi said.
"Me neither. We'll tell Professor Oak about it after we have a look at the old power plant," Sora said.
With that said, Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel were going to head out of the mansion when they ran into a blue Ditto.
"A blue Ditto. How cute," Kairi cooed.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Sora, you don't mind if I make this catch, do you?" Kairi asked.
"Not at all," Sora said. Kairi took out a Pokéball and threw it at Ditto. The Transform Pokémon flows inside and the Pokéball wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Kairi's Pokémon Box goes off asking her if she wants to keep Ditto with her. She chose to send Ditto to Professor Oak's lab. "Nice catch."
"Thank you, Sora," Kairi said, smiling from her boyfriend's praise.
The couple and the Pokémon stepped out of the mansion and met up with Ventus, Terra, Aqua, and Togepi.
"Was it a Heartless?" Aqua asked.
"Yeah, and it had friends," Sora said. "But it was nothing Kairi and I couldn't take care of."
"And there's something else," Kairi said.
"What?" Ventus asked.
"We got a call from Professor Oak after we took care of them. We're heading for the old power plant," Sora said.
"I thought we were heading for Viridian City," Ventus said.
"We are. After we go to the power plant," Sora said.
The group heads for the dock to get the next available boat to take them to the mainland. Along the way, the couple explained why they're heading for the power plant. Ventus, Terra, and Aqua were awestruck and amazed by the rumors of Zapdos being sighted in the old power plant.
"So, that's why Professor Oak wanted you to go there," Terra said.
"Yeah. We were going to tell him something else we found out in that mansion we fought those Heartless in. It was written in a diary on a desk in a room where I chased that last Heartless in," Sora said.
"Diary?" Terra asked.
"I don't know all the facts, but it mentioned someone finding the mystery Pokémon, Mew in Faraway Island, and an old temple," Sora explained.
"Where's Faraway Island?" Ventus asked.
"It's located far off the coast of the Hoenn region. I did hear stories about Mew when I was little," Aqua said.
"Some people say Mew is a mythical Pokémon, so there were a few people who actually said they've seen it," Terra said.
"Yeah, there's more to it," Sora said.
"What?" Terra asked.
"We've read in the diary that they were creating a brand new Pokémon. They called it Mewtwo," Kairi said.
"Mewtwo?" Aqua asked.
"We tried to look it up, but this Mewtwo doesn't seem to be listed in the Pokédex at all," Kairi said.
"We were about to tell Professor Oak about it when this Zapdos business dropped on us like a sack of potatoes," Sora said.
"Chu," Pikachu said.
"So, we've decided that it'll have to wait until after we get the whole power plant business taken care of," Sora said.
"First Articuno, and now Zapdos. This keeps getting more interesting by the minute," Terra said.
They arrived just in time as the next boat was departing for Fushia City. They took it and boarded it to get to the power plant. As they got on the boat, Sora exchanged Kabutops, Aerodactyl, Lapras, Tentacruel, Poliwrath, Cloyster, Slowbro, and Lickilicky for Growlithe, Rhydon, Magmar, Electabuzz, Dragonair, Magneton, Steelix, and Golem. Kairi exchanged Slowking, Seaking, Politoed, Dewgong, and Starmie for Bellossom, Jolteon, Flareon, Sylveon, and Vulpix. As they sailed, Sora and Kairi both took out a Fire Stone and used them to make them evolve. Growlithe is now Arcanine, and Vulpix is now Ninetales. Also, Kairi gave Seadra a Dragon Scale to make Seadra evolve into a Kingdra. Sora uses a Thunder Stone to make Magneton evolve into a Magnezone. Kairi also decided to evolve her Gloom into a Vileplume by using a Leaf Stone. Once the Pokémon have evolved, they were ready for their encounter with Zapdos.
They arrived to Fushia City, and they begin to make their way to the power plant. They arrived to Cerulean City after making it on foot after several days.
"Okay, to get to the power plant, we're going to go down the river next to the Rock Tunnel," Aqua said.
"Hopefully, it'll be a much better experience than the first time," Sora said.
"What do you mean?" Aqua asked.
"When we first got to the Rock Tunnel, we were confronted by some members of Team Rocket. Lorelei of the Elite Four came and helped us deal with them," Kairi said.
"What's their deal?" Terra asked.
"We drove them off of Mount Moon and foiled one of them right here in Cerulean City. Those guys just had it coming," Sora said.
"Chu," Pikachu said.
"That explains a lot," Terra said.
Sora, Kairi, Ventus, Terra, Aqua, Pikachu, Angel, and Togepi continued their way to the power plant. They arrived to the river in Route 9. Blastoise carried them over to the power plant and they entered inside. They looked around the ruins. So far, they've seen Voltorb and Magnemite. They would have to go further inside.
"Where could Zapdos be?" Ventus asked.
"Probably deeper inside," Kairi said.
"But keep your wits up. You'll never know when it'll show up," Sora said.
They Sora was right, so they kept going. Several Grimer, Koffing, and Elekid spots them, but they didn't bother with the group of humans in their home. They went in deeper and deeper inside, and they arrived to witness a light coming further down.
"What's that?" Terra asked.
"It's gotta be Zapdos, right?" Ventus asked.
"Let's see," Sora said.
"Pika, Pika," Pikachu said.
They go even further to see what it could be. It turns out to be an Electrode instead. It gave off sparks with a look that screams irritation.
"It's not a Zapdos, it's an Electrode," Sora said. The Electrode started to attack by rolling at them. Soon, several other Electrode go after them.
"A whole gang of Electrode!" Kairi exclaimed.
"This area must be their territory," Aqua said.
"This is just great," Sora deadpanned. The Electrode's bodies were surrounded by yellow sparks. They were building up electric power.
"They're using Charge!" Kairi exclaimed.
"That means they're going to unleash some electricity on us!" Sora exclaimed. The Electrode fired Thunderbolt at them. Thinking quickly, Kairi summoned her Keyblade.
"Reflect!" Kairi shouted. A magical barrier surrounds them all, making the electricity bounce off.
"Good thinking, Kairi!" Sora said.
"It took some practice," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Well, they won't take it laying down," Sora said. He took out a Pokéball and threw it. "Come out, Golem!" His Pokéball opened and Golem came on out. "Golem! Use Earthquake!" Golem jumped in the air and the whole area starts shaking. The Electrode all got hurt by the Ground-type move. "Kairi, we'll need your Diglett for this one."
"Right," Kairi said, taking out her Pokéball and threw it. "Diglett! Go!" Diglett emerged from inside to assist Golem. "Use Mud-Slap!" Diglett hurls mud at the Electrode. "Use Magnitude!" Diglett wriggles around and the whole ground starts shaking. It was at a scale of 5. The Electrode starts to retreat, having enough. "Nice job, Diglett."
"Dig, Dig, Diglett!" Diglett beamed.
They continued on to find Zapdos. They stopped when they heard the sounds of wings flapping.
"You hear that?" Ventus asked.
"I heard it, Ven," Sora said. He turned to Terra and Aqua. "Keep Ven safe."
"Way ahead of you," Terra and Aqua said in unison, grabbing Ventus. They get behind an old desk when the flapping grew louder. A loud cry followed. Electricity shot forward, and they saw Zapdos flying towards them.
"It's Zapdos," Sora said.
"Pika," Pikachu said. Kairi took out her Pokédex and scanned the bird Pokémon.
Zapdos, the Electric Pokémon
Type: Electric/Flying
Zapdos is a legendary bird Pokémon that has the ability to control electricity. It usually lives in thunderclouds. The Pokémon gains power if it is stricken by lightning bolts.
"Sora, I think Golem is a good choice against Zapdos," Kairi said.
"Good thinking, Kairi," Sora said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. "Golem! Go!" His Pokéball opened and Golem came out to battle. "Rock Slide!" Golem hurls rocks at Zapdos, hoping it'll land a hit. Zapdos dodges and came at Golem while spinning.
"It's using Drill Peck!" Kairi exclaimed.
"Eevee!" Angel also exclaimed.
"Use Rollout!" Sora ordered. Golem rolls right at Zapdos, landing a hit. "Use Fire Punch!" Golem attempts to punch Zapdos in the face with Fire Punch, but Zapdos grabbed Golem in its talons and flew upwards. Zapdos then drops Golem once it was high enough. Golem lands on the ground, making the ground shake. Golem has been taken down. Sora calls Golem back inside.
"That was Sky Drop," Terra said.
"And that did a lot of damage," Aqua added. Sora took out ten of his Pokéballs and threw them all.
"Come out, Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Dragonair, Aecanine, Rhydon, Magnezone, Electabuzz, Magmar, and Steelix!" Sora called out. His ten Pokémon all emerged from inside. Kairi took out her ten Pokéballs to join in the battle. She tossed them.
"Raichu, Diglett, Bellossom, Vileplume, Ninetales, Kingdra, Flareon, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Sylveon!" Kairi called out. Her Pokéballs opened and her Pokémon joined in the fray against Zapdos.
"Rhydon! Start up with Horn Attack!" Sora ordered. Rhydon charged at Zapdos. Zapdos ascended to dodged. "Charizard, Arcanine, Magmar! Flamethrower!" Sora ordered. The Fire-type Pokémon fired Flamethrower right at the Electric Pokémon, but it blocked by using Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt overpowers the combined fire attacks, and zapped them. Magmar had been taken down while Charizard and Arcanine are still standing. Sora calls Magmar back inside.
"Bellossom, Vileplume! Use Petal Dance!" Kairi ordered. Bellossom and Vileplume unleashed Petal Dance right at Zapdos, only for it to come at the Flower Pokémon with a Drill Peck. Kairi knew what was coming "Diglett! Use Sandstorm!" Diglett unleashed a fierce sandstorm. All of the remaining Pokémon, except for Diglett, Rhydon, and Magnezone were buffed by the sandstorm. Even Zapdos was hit by the sandstorm. With a flap of its mighty wings, it undoes the sandstorm.
"Magnezone! Use Magnet Shot! Blastoise! Flash Cannon! Electabuzz! Thunderbolt! Arcanine! Flamethrower! Steelix! Dragon Breath!" Sora ordered. Magnezone, Blastoise, Electabuzz, Arcanine, and Steelix fired their chosen attacks, but Zapdos responds by firing Thunderbolt at their attacks, resulting in an explosion. "Dragonair! Use Dragon Rush! Charizard! Use Dragon Claw!" Charizard and Dragonair rushed at Zapdos. Dragonair lands the first hit while Charizard swiped his claws at Zapdos. Both Pokémon have managed to land a hit onto Zapdos. "Venusaur! Use Vine Whip to grab Zapdos!" Venusaur extends Vine Whip and grabbed Zapdos by the neck. "Kairi, your turn!"
"Thank you, Sora," Kairi said. "Flareon, Ninetales! Flamethrower! Vaporeon! Hydro Pump! Jolteon! Thunderbolt! Sylveon! Fairy Wind!" Kairi ordered. Flareon, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Sylveon, and Ninetales launched their chosen attacks, hitting Zapdos on the mark. Zapdos grabbed both of Ninetales and Jolteon in its talons and flew up again. "Jolteon, Ninetales!" Zapdos dropped them both. They land on the ground hard. Both were knocked out. She called them both back. "Get some rest, the both of you."
"Rhydon! Use Horn Attack!" Sora ordered. Rhydon horned in on Zapdos with Horn Attack, but Zapdos grabbed Rhydon by the tail and flew up again. "Not Sky Drop!" Zapdos dropped Rhydon, and he slammed hard on the ground, making it shake. Sora called back Rhydon. "Rest up, Rhydon."
"Diglett! Use Sandstorm again!" Kairi ordered. Diglett was about to use Sandstorm when Zapdos uses Drill Peck again. Diglett has been knocked out. She called back Diglett. "Kingdra! Use Dragon Pulse! Raichu! Use Thunderbolt! Angel! Use Swift!" Angel, Raichu, and Kingdra unleashed their attacks at Zapdos, landing a hit. Zapdos unleashed a much more powerful move than Thunderbolt, hitting all of the remaining Pokémon. Most of them have been taken down, especially Angel. "Oh no! Angel!" Kairi ran up to her. Pikachu turned to Angel and he gasped when she was hurt.
"This isn't going well," Ventus said.
"No, it's not," Aqua agreed.
"Pikachu, can you keep going?" Sora asked. Pikachu slowly got up and nodded.
"Pika," Pikachu nodded.
"Okay. Pikachu! Use Quick Attack!" Sora ordered. Pikachu ran right at Zapdos. The Electric Pokémon flew up to avoid Pikachu's attack, so he fired Thunderbolt, hitting Pikachu on the spot. Pikachu fell on his back.
"Pikachu!" - Angel subtitle. She attempts to run to Pikachu.
"No, Angel, you're in no condition to battle," Kairi said.
"She's right, Angel. You should rest." - Pikachu subtitle. Angel was in no condition to argue, so she had to agree to let Pikachu go at it with Zapdos.
"I know you're worried about Angel, but we can't stop now. Not after coming this far," Sora said.
"Chu," Pikachu said. He wasn't going to let the efforts of Angel and his other friends down. He had to battle hard for all of them. Pikachu looked at Zapdos right into its eyes, refusing to call it quits.
"Pikachu! Use Quick Attack!" Sora ordered. Pikachu ran right at Zapdos again. Zapdos flew flew right at Pikachu. It attempts to grab Pikachu, but he ducked out of the way before he got caught in Zapdos's talons. "Pikachu! Jump right on Zapdos!" Pikachu jumped right on Zapdos, grabbing its leg. Pikachu climbed up to its back. "Use Thunderbolt! Give Zapdos more than it can handle!" Pikachu unleashed a much more powerful Thunderbolt than normal. Zapdos screeched in pain, feeling the electricity. Zapdos tried to resist, but Pikachu kept shocking Zapdos hard. "Use Iron Tail!" Pikachu swung his tail at Zapdos, landing a heavy hit. Zapdos falls right to the ground. Sora took out an Ultra Ball and threw it. Zapdos flows inside and the Ultra Ball wobbles around and around very violently. Stars swirls around the Ultra Ball confirming the catch. Sora's Pokémon Box goes off asking him if he wants to keep Zapdos with him. He chose to send Zapdos to Professor Oak's lab.
Over to Professor Oak's lab, the Ultra Ball has arrived, and he knew which Pokémon was inside, after seeing Articuno with his own eyes.
"He has captured Zapdos. I better call Sora to congratulate him," Professor Oak said, calling Sora.
Back at the power plant, Sora hears his smartphone ringing, so he answered it.
"Hey, Professor Oak," Sora greeted.
"Just calling to inform you that your newly caught Zapdos had just arrived," Professor Oak said. "You are just full of surprises."
"Thanks a lot, professor," Sora said.
"Professor, there was something we've been meaning to tell you," Kairi said.
"Oh? I'd like to hear it," Professor Oak said.
"Just before you called us about Zapdos, we found something written in a diary in an old mansion on Cinnabar Island," Sora said.
"Diary?" Professor Oak asked.
"Yeah. It was about the discovery of Mew, and the creation of a Pokémon called Mewtwo," Sora said.
"We were hoping you would know something," Kairi said. Professor Oak sighed.
"I'm afraid even my knowledge is severely limited. I have never heard of this Mewtwo until you mentioned it," Professor Oak said.
"That's a real bummer," Sora said.
"But, I have heard some rumors of a Pokémon being created through genetic experimentations, but I only thought it was only a mere rumor," Professor Oak said. "If what you say is true, then we have a mysterious Pokémon on our hands."
"What should we do?" Kairi asked.
"For now, nothing. We do not have any information regarding this Mewtwo. Until then, we act like nothing is happening," Professor Oak said.
"If you think that's what we'll do, then we're gonna do that," Sora said.
"Anyway, Sora. I seem to recall you have your eighth Gym Badge to earn," Professor Oak said.
"Right. We'll see you there after I earn my last Gym battle," Sora said. He hung up.
Ventus, Terra, and Aqua walk up to the couple.
"Wow, first Articuno, now Zapdos," Ventus said. "So cool!"
"Articuno was cool, Zapdos was just plain shocking. I'm using those terms quite literally," Sora said.
"So, we're not looking into the whole Mewtwo thing?" Terra asked.
"Yeah. Professor Oak is right, because we have no idea what we're up against," Sora said.
"And you're right, Sora. We should get going before we bump into any more Electrode," Aqua said.
"We better hurry," Sora said.
With that said, the group started to make their way out of the power plant. As they kept going, Ventus found what looks like a yellow box with plug holes. He picked it up and looked at it. Kairi turned around.
"Ven!" Kairi called out to her boyfriend's cousin. He looked at her. "Come on." Ventus complies by running up to her.
Now that Zapdos has been caught, there is still the mystery of Mewtwo and Mew. More shall come soon...
