Chapter One-hundred and fifty-three: Dragonslayer, part two

Admin Brother, after Bulat and Yomi gave him and Akari the cover to leave, were able to eventually find the home that they were looking for. Brother led the charge as he, with Akari and half a dozen Team Scorn rank and file, barged right in, startling the people inside. It was just four women, but before any of them could say anything, the members of Team Scorn rushed them; Brother even whipped his katana out and, after telling Akari to close her eyes, rushed one of the woman and impaled her through the stomach with his katana.

...But then again, the woman who Brother impaled was his and Akari's Aunt Natsumi.

Brother covered Natsumi's mouth with his hand, then leaned in to whisper into her ear as the clearly shocked woman was unable to believe what she was seeing. "...Long time no see, Aunt Natsumi," Brother whispered to her, "Remember me, your nephew Natsuki? You know, I was there when you were at a convinience store talking to your friend, and you more or less expressed that you were happy that my family was killed that night all those years ago. I also heard you express that you were glad that Akari was supposedly among the victims, and you even used the r-word to address her."

Brother twisted his katana in Natsumi's gut a bit, eliciting a pained wince out of the doomed woman. "...Did you know, Aunt Natsumi," Brother went on, "That my mom was actually planning on doing away with the traditions that made the side branches of the family have to pay reverence to the main branch, including doing away with how the side branches had to pay tribute to the main branch? If you and the side branches were willing to wait until my grandmother had died naturally, then none of what all had befallen our family as a whole would of had to happen."

Brother shoved his katana into Natsumi's gut just a little bit more. "No one in our family would have died to violence," Brother whispered on, "Akari and I wouldn't have joined Team Scorn, and most importantly of all, all members of the family as a whole would have been on more equal footing without any need to suffer. But no, you just had to act on an assumption that mom and after her Akari would have kept up the traditions of the family that grandmother was keen on keeping up. Thus we're at this predicament that we have reached today. All because you didn't consider the possibility that mom and Akari were better than what you assumed."

Brother then yanked his katana out of his aunt's gut and used it to slash her throat; he didn't want his younger sister to potentially see a severed head, especially the severed head of their aunt despite her cruelty towards Akari. Brother then laid his soon to be dead aunt face down on the floor, letting her bleed out. By the time that he straightened back up, Brother saw that not only had Akari kept her eyes shut tight the whole time, but the rank and file had beaten the other women until all of them were knocked out. "Hey Admin Brother," said a female grunt, "What all did you whisper to that lady about?"

Gently shaking his head, Brother said, "Personal business. Now come, there's something I'm looking for which I suspect is located in this house."

...

After covering the late Natsumi with a comforter taken from a linen closet before letting Akari open her eyes, Brother, with Akari and the grunts, proceeded to search the house for any valuables. While he was searching what had been Natsumi's room, Brother came across a jewelry box, in which were multiple pieces of jewelry. Searching it, Brother found a number of pieces that held some fairly considerable value in and of themselves. Rings, necklaces, a few chain bracelets, and even a silver cuff bangle. However, it was when he searched the section of the jewelry box in which the earrings were kept that Brother found something that made his eyes widen with surprise.

A pair of earrings that were identical to one another, both of them resembling hanafuda cards with a pokéball at the top emitting rays down on a hillside that also resembled a pokéball, as if the first pokéball were a shining sun. "...I knew it," Brother swore to himself under his breath, "Aunt Natsumi really did have grandfather's hanafuda earrings." Brother then immediately took out the earrings that he was wearing to put in the pair of his late grandfather's earrings that he had literally just gotten back. Brother put his original earrings into a pocket on his garuken jacket before closing up the jewelry box and taking it; the individual pieces inside did possess some value, after all.

Heading down the stairs, Brother saw that his men and Akari had gathered pretty much anything and everything they found of any note; one of the female grunts even carried a large sack she said held food she raided from the kitchen area. "Hey Admin Brother, cool earrings," said the female grunt with the food.

Brother nodded once in thanks. "...We're done here, so let's bail and see what other further damage we can do to Blackthorn City before Team Scorn is forced to bail." With Brother leading the way, all of Team Scorn's presence at that house vacated, leaving behind three knocked out women and one murdered woman who wouldn't have been murdered if she had assumed the best in her family.

Back where Iris and Clair were fighting off Team Scorn, Clair was struggling with Bulat, who as it turned out was waiting for Admin Mage. Bulat's Pokémon that he was using were a few notches above the ones that had been loaned to him for his prior duties; indeed, Bulat's Aggron had already knocked out Clair's Kingdra. The leader of the Blackthorn City gym sent her next Pokémon, her Gyarados, out to confront Bulat. Instead of keeping Aggron in, Bulat recalled it to send out his Meowstic, much to the surprise of Clair.

The Meowstic was male, so it was mostly dark colored. Also, it had a scar around the one upper corner of its left eye, and it wore a Meowstic sized pair of green pants for some odd reason. "...For a steel type user," Clair said, "I find it odd that you have a Meowstic."

"Hey, Meowstic here is actually my closest Pokémon partner," Bulat replied, "And he's more than enough to defeat the likes of your Gyarados!"

"We'll see about that!" Clair declared, "Gyarados, use Twister!"

"Meowstic," Bulat called out, "Use Thunderbolt!"

Clair went wide-eyed with alarm upon hearing Bulat's command; sure enough, as Gyarados was whipping up its Twister attack, Bulat's Meowstic conjured and cast its Thunderbolt attack, striking Gyarados with an attack that did times four super effective damage. Even though Meowstic didn't get same type attack bonus for using that move, it was still sufficient to knock Gyarados out, making it slam into the ground with a thud that made the surrounding area rumble slightly. Gyarados IS a rather big Pokémon, after all.

As Clair recalled her Gyarados, she shouted over to Iris, "How are you holding up, Iris?!"

"This girl I'm battling is using her Admin's Pokémon to terrible effect!" Iris called out, then she immediately yelled, "Dragonite, use Flamethrower!"

"Charizard, use Air Slash!" Aya commanded, and the two dragonic Pokémon fired their attacks at one another. But the one between the two who was NOT actually a dragon was quicker; Mage's Charizard under Aya's command hit Iris's Dragonite with Air Slash before Dragonite fired its Flamethrower which Charizard flew up to dodge. The Air Slash also scored a brutal critical hit which ended up knocking Dragonite out, sending it crashing straight into the ground.

Iris recalled her fainted Dragonite to send out her next Pokémon, Excadrill. Despite the type disadvantage Excadrill had compared to Charizard, Excadrill was still the overall strongest Pokémon Iris had left; she bet that one Dragon Pulse from Charizard would knock out Axew, and Emolga despite having a type advantage against Charizard was far more frail overall than Excadrill was. As such, that was Iris's reason for taking the risk of sending Excadrill out to battle the Charizard that Aya was borrowing from Admin Mage.

However, Aya recalled Mage's Charizard to send out another of her Admin's Pokémon. "Go!" Aya called out, not saying what Pokémon it was because she actually didn't know. To her surprise as well as the surprise of Iris, the second of Mage's Pokémon was a Haxorus. "Alright, so it was Admin Mage's Haxorus," Aya said, "That tells me what the last Pokémon is."

"It doesn't matter what Pokémon you have!" Iris called out, "You're going to lose either way! Excadrill, use Dig!"

As Iris's Excadrill proceeded to burrow its way underground, Aya gave an amused smirk. "That was a mistake on your part," Aya said, "Haxorus, use Earthquake!"

Iris's eyes widened with surprise and worry upon Aya issuing that order. As such, while Excadrill was underground, Haxorus triggered a massive quake that shook the surrounding area. Mage, over where he was still fighting Clair's Druddigon, heard what Aya had called out. Jumping up, Mage stomped Druddigon on the head to make himself go up into the air while shoving the shiny dragon Pokémon into the ground so that it got hit with the full brunt of whatever seismic waves came their way. Mage grabbed a hold of a streetlight pole and hung from it by holding it with his left hand while pressing his feet into it, as if he were a monkey Pokémon.

It was right as the Earthquake ended and Clair's Druddigon got back up that Mage leapt from where he was hanging and flew right at Druddigon, headbutting it in the same eye that he punched it in previously. Mage landed on his feet as Clair's shiny Druddigon stumbled around a bit, mostly backwards. "Our fight is far from over, you monster!" Mage snarled at Clair's Druddigon, "I'll teach you for attacking someone important to me!"

Iris heard what Mage was shouting as Excadrill was popped out of the ground due to the force of the Earthquake attack, and he landed on the ground in clear defeat. Iris was forced to recall Excadrill before considering her options. Her only remaining Pokémon were Axew and Emolga; both small and frail and would go down to a single solid hit from a Pokémon like Haxorus. Still, Iris wanted to avoid another Earthquake, so she went with Emolga. "Go, Emolga!" Iris called out as she sent out her third out of four Pokémon.

To Iris's relief, Aya called back the Haxorus she borrowed from Mage to send out another Pokémon. "Go, Meowstic!" Aya said as she tossed up the pokéball that held the third Pokémon that Mage had loaned to her, a Meowstic that was dark blue, indicating it's male although Iris didn't know about the gender differences of the species. Also, it had a green empty sack over its back with the handle loose around its neck.

Iris had no clue what sort of attacks Meowstic knew, but she didn't wanna find out. "Emolga, use Volt Switch!" Iris ordered.

"Meowstic," Aya called out, "Use Attract!" Iris was worried when she heard Aya call for Meowstic to use Attract; as Emolga was charging up her Volt Switch attack, Meowstic conjured pink little hearts of infatuation energy and casted them at Emolga, who got hit and to Iris's worries instantly fell head over heels in love with what Iris now knew was a male Pokémon. Due to said infatuation, Emolga didn't attack that turn. Gesturing forward, Aya called out, "Meowstic, use Psychic!"

"Emolga, use Volt Switch!" Iris called out, and luckily Emolga was able to get off Volt Switch on try number two, although she was blasted by Psychic first. But Emolga endured and, after hitting Meowstic with Volt Switch, automatically swapped out of battle, prompting Iris to reluctantly send Axew in. Pointing forward, Iris called out, "Axew, use Dragon Rush!"

"Meowstic, use Disarming Voice!" Aya called out. Meowstic's shouting cry flew at Axew and slammed into it hard while it tried willing up Dragon Rush. The mighty attack ended up fizzling out in Axew's open mouth as the little dragon Pokémon fell over onto the ground in defeat.

Iris scooped Axew up and held it as she sent her Emolga back out; Attract's effects wore off when Emolga was swapped out, and now Iris knew that Meowstic was male, so Emolga's own Attract will work on him and give the dark blue cat Pokémon a taste of his own medicine. Pointing forward, Iris called out, "Emolga, use Attract!"

"Meowstic return!" Aya said, "Go, Haxorus!" Aya recalled Mage's Meowstic and sent his Haxorus back out, who got hit squarely by Emolga's Attract with pinpoint precision. However, and to Iris's dawning worry, Emolga's Attract had no effect on Mage's Haxorus. "Yeah, Admin Mage's Haxorus is a girl," Aya said, "He raised a girl one just for situations like what you tried to do, aiming to have your girl Emolga use Attract on his boy Meowstic upon seeing that Meowstic's a boy. But that all is besides the point." Pointing forward, Aya said, "Haxorus, use Dragon claw!"

"Emolga, use Volt Switch!" Iris called out; although it wouldn't let Emolga switch back out since all of Iris's other Pokémon were defeated, it would still deal damage. However, Haxorus swerved to avoid Vold Switch upon closing the gap to strike and, upon getting right up into Emolga's face, struck her hard with Dragon claw, eliciting a pained cry from Emolga as she was smacked down to the ground, laying there in defeat although Haxorus did trigger Emolga's Static ability, and as such got paralyzed. Iris, now out of Pokémon who can fight, recalled her fainted Emolga before she gave Aya a scowling look. "...You couldn't beat me with your own Pokémon, so you had to use your Admin's Pokémon huh?"

"Says the girl," Aya said as she recalled Mage's Haxorus, "Who partnered up with a woman who sent her Pokémon to directly attack me after you won round one in a bid to capture me." Aya held her hand over the bleeding gash on her arm, winced in pain. "And the reason why Admin Mage loaned his Pokémon to me so I could take you on for round two was because he wanted to personally deal with that monster."

"Clair's Druddigon is NOT a monster!" Iris snapped, "If anything, it's the whole of Team Scorn that's-"

*CRACK*

*THUD*

Iris was cut off when she heard a sickening, very unpleasant cracking noise, followed by something with some degree of weight being heaved onto the ground. Looking around, Iris saw an exhausted and somewhat scuffed up Mage walk up to where she and Aya were at. "That... *huff ...Druddigon that attacked you has been dealt with," Mage said, "How did the battle using my Pokémon go?"

"I defeated all of Iris's Pokémon without any of yours getting defeated," Aya said as she handed back Mage's Pokémon to him, "But Haxorus got paralyzed."

"The lot of us will all patch ourselves up after getting out of here and back to base," Mage replied, catching a little bit of his breath.

Iris couldn't believe it; Team Scorn was failing to be stopped from getting away again. As Mage despite his own scuffs and exhaustion insisted on helping Aya out of there with her good arm over his shoulders, Iris called out, "You guys won't get away with this! You still have Clair to deal with! She's the strongest gym leader in Johto, not to mention she's elite when it comes to working with dragon Pokémon!"

"I don't think you'd be saying that after seeing what I did to the Druddigon Clair sent to attack Aya," Mage called back with a scowl, "And if Clair has any complaints, tell her for me that it's her own damn fault for thinking that sending her Druddigon after Aya directly was a good idea!"

Iris was instantly alarmed by what Mage had said, too alarmed to think of trying to physically restrain Mage and Aya from leaving. Instead, Iris's instincts as a Dragon Master (in training) were screaming at her in her head at the top of its lungs to go find Clair's Druddigon and see what happened to it. As such, Iris turned on her heels and ran in the direction she last saw Mage grappling with Clair's Druddigon. Worry filled Iris, who was still carrying her knocked out Axew in her arms, as she ran right for where she spotted Clair's Druddigon laying on the ground, its back to the direction Iris was coming in from.

Eventually, Iris got close enough to have an easy view of the shiny dragon Pokémon, but when she did, she came to a sudden stop, her eyes as wide with shocked horror as possible. Realizing what had happened, Iris's eyes began to have tears pool in the corners before the tears trickled down her cheeks, going on to splash onto the ground like drops of rain. The din of the battling that was still ongoing was drowned out from Iris's ears as she slowly sank to the ground onto her knees, unable to come to terms with what she knew full well laid on the ground a meter and a half in front of her.

...

The battling was soon over, and all of Team Scorn pulled out of Blackthorn City. There was new damage to the city as a whole; some damage wrecking up what was repaired from the first attack that Admin Brother led, and some damage fresh. Clair, as she looked over the trainers who helped to fight Team Scorn off, was frustrated with herself for being so weak; she had lost her battle against Bulat, without any of his own Pokémon going down. If it wasn't for how she had sent Druddigon to go and physically restrain that Aya girl, Clair could have prolonged her duel with Bulat, if only by a bit and if only to score at least one knock out on one of his Pokémon.

Team Scorn came back to Blackthorn City mainly to remind them to not think of them as a minor threat; they wanted to reopen the wounds left by the first attack, which actually saw a human death. Clair also got it that there was at least one human death from this second attack as well, a woman named Natsumi whose house was also partly ransacked by Admin Brother and his crew with him. The women who were with Natsumi were all knocked out, much to the relief of the Blackthorn City civilians with Clair when she went in to assess the damage done. But why only Natsumi among her and her friends was killed was a mystery to Blackthorn City's gym leader.

Suddenly realizing something, Clair began to run about to look for Iris. Eventually, Clair found Iris, kneeling on the ground while sitting up straight. Iris's back was to Clair, and she worried due to how still Iris was that she had also been killed and remained sitting up kneeling. Clair ran forward towards where Iris sat, also seeing that her Druddigon laid on the ground in front of Iris. But Clair could rouse her Druddigon later, right now Iris was a priority. Eventually, Clair came up to Iris and dropped to one knee on Iris's right. To Clair's immediate relief, Iris was clearly alive, her chest slowly rising and lowering, showing that the girl from Unova was still drawing breath.

"Iris!" Clair said loudly, concern clear in her tone, "Are you okay?!" Realizing that Clair was next to her, Iris turned her head to face Clair. To the alarmed worry of the Blackthorn City gym leader, Iris was steadily crying. Upon seeing Clair, Iris's eyes winced as her crying was threatening to redouble.

Iris drew unsteady breaths as she struggled to say the words. "C-C-Clair..." Iris stammered, sounding like she could starting crying at any moment, "...y-your... your Druddigon... it... it was Admin Mage who... who..." Clair's attention was turned to where her shiny Druddigon laid on the ground, its back to her and Iris. Alarmed by her dragon Pokémon's stillness as it was laying on the ground, Clair rushed right over and knelt down next to it. She reached out to Druddigon's throat and pressed her right index and middle fingers against it in the hopes that she would feel a pulse. Clair's eyes widened in horror as she realized that there was no pulse at all.

Clair's Druddigon had been killed.

Later at the local Pokémon Center, Clair was sitting in the lobby as Iris came walking up to her. "I just got off the video phone with my friend Cilan," Iris said, "He met a mutual friend of ours and Ash's named Brock in some city here in Johto."

"I remember Brock," Clair said in a resigned tone, "He was with Ash and Misty when Ash came to challenge my gym to earn a badge." Letting out a troubled sigh, Clair said, "Nurse Joy was able to do a scan on Druddigon's remains and confirmed that its neck had been snapped by someone twisting its head until the deed was done. Druddigon's remains also had signs that it was wrestled and grappled by a human."

Iris looked sad, unsure of what to say. "...Mage told me to tell you that it's your fault because you thought having Druddigon directly go after that Aya girl who's Mage's assistant was a good idea. I personally think that Team Scorn just doesn't want any of their members captured." With a light smirk, Iris went on, "But Cilan told me that he, Brock, and a few dozen trainers fought off a Team Scorn attack over where they are at, and they captured three Team Scorn members."

Clair did perk up a bit at that. "...Well, at least we got some good news out of this mess," Clair said, "I just wish that-"

"CLAIR!"

Clair was cut off when she and Iris heard a male voice bellow out for her in concern. Suddenly, the two girls were rushed by Lance, the Champion of the Indigo League and Clair's cousin. Lance threw his arms around Clair and held her in a tight hug that denoted relief. "Oh, thank goodness you're alright," Lance said, "I came rushing over as soon as I heard that there was another Team Scorn attack on Blackthorn City!"

After Lance let go of her, Clair gave him a small and sad smile. "...Yeah, I'm relieved to see you doing well too."

Lance was able to tell right away that something was wrong with his cousin. "Clair, what happened exactly?" Lance said, "What went down during-"

"Clair's Druddigon was killed during Team Scorn's attack on Blackthorn City earlier today," Iris spoke up, getting Lance to turn to look at her. As awesome as it was for Lance, a man who very clearly has mastered working with dragon Pokémon, to be standing right there, Iris coluldn't work up the admiration she felt was due. Not with the recent Team Scorn attack that had claimed multiple lives, one of which had been a Pokémon.

Lance's eyes widened out of shock. "One of my cousin's Pokémon was killed? What happened?" Iris and Clair began to give all the details to Lance; it was confirmed that Admin Mage of Team Scorn had killed Clair's Druddigon, doing so by snapping its neck after twisting its head around hard enough. Iris did have to point out that Mage had done that because Druddigon attacked Mage's assistant Aya in an attempt to restrain the girl, and furthermore had acted to restrain Aya on Clair's order. They also mentioned that a woman was killed, and the wounds according to the coroner suggested that a katana was used as the murder weapon.

The Champion of the Indigo League had a hard, grim expression. "...This second attack had claimed more lives than the first attack on Blackthorn City by Team Scorn," Lance began, "And those katana wounds make it clear that Admin Brother was involved as he carries a katana." Turning to look at Iris, Lance went on, "But this Admin Mage fellow, he's the first member of Team Scorn that I have heard of being confirmed to have killed a Pokémon." Gently shaking his head, Lance asked, "Do you know what Sector this Admin Mage fellow leads? Where said Sector is based out of?"

"I think that I heard the term 'Scarf Sector' mentioned," Iris said, "And I have reason to believe they're based out of a region called Alola."

Lance's eyes widened out of surprise yet again. "Alola?" Scowling, Lance swore, "Shit. Alola is basically one big vacation resort, at least in my opinion. That region has practically zero ready might that can be used to meet Team Scorn to drive them out. And now an entire Sector of Team Scorn is taking root there?" Lance told the girls to rest for now, mostly because it's all they could do. Lance was going to look into a few things, such as what he heard on the flight to Blackthorn City about how three members of Team Scorn were captured in an attack at a lake near another city in Johto.

Iris and Clair agreed, and as such they took to resting the rest of the night. Come morning according to Clair, Druddigon's remains will have been cremated, and Clair would be able to come by to pick up the urn containing the ashes. It was a bitter and tear-filled loss dealt to the Blackthorn City gym leader, especially due to the fact that not only did she have Druddigon for so little time before Mage had cruelly taken its life, but Druddigon was actually a shiny Pokémon, and as such was an incredibly rare and very valuable find.

Many trainers are considered truly blessed if they're lucky enough to ever simply meet a shiny Pokémon, and fewer still win the luck lottery and actually end up straight up capturing a shiny Pokémon. Clair was counted among the very few persons out there who were lucky enough to capture a shiny Pokémon, but it would seem that her luck had not only ran out, but did so in the cruelest of ways possible. Clair, as fresh tears began running down the sides of her face, began to rue her recklessness over sending Druddigon to go physically restrain that Aya girl in a bid to capture a Team Scorn member, as Druddigon acting against Aya had prompted Mage to go and do his cruel act of pokécide.

Clair could only hope that things against Team Scorn as a whole would get better.

END, CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED AND FIFTY-THREE

Author's notes;

This chapter wraps up adapting BWS02 to the setting here, showing that it actually took place approximately around the same time as Brock's and Cilan's adventure. Team Scorn ultimately all gets away, having caused more damage to Blackthorn City to serve them as a reminder, and Clair ends up having to deal with the fact that her Druddigon had been killed during the second Team Scorn attack on Blackthorn City. Lance shows up and, after being given the details, has more than one thing to look into, especially given he expressed concern for Alola as that's where Mage's sector of Team Scorn is based out of.

But adventures in Alola will have to wait, because the next chapter will be kicking off the adventures in Kalos, where Dawn, Kenny, Trip, and Ash when they meet up with him will be gathering Kalosian gym badges while fighting off native threats, including the Team Scorn sector based in Kalos. They will also be joined by a certain inventor, said certain inventor's little sister, and a certain girl who has a connection to Ash in the past. Don't turn that dial, because Kalos shenanigans are about to ensue.
