Chapter One-hundred and fifty-eight: Ninja Nonsense 2- Shinobi Boogaloo
The heroes were continuing their journey to Cyllage City, the location of the next gym that Ash and the reborn trainers could challenge. They had to take a pit stop so as to have lunch, and while that was getting set up, Ash decided to get some training in with his Froakie. Trip and Bonnie watched while the others got the table set up. Trip especially so as he was wondering how to incorporate what Ash was doing with his Froakie into training for his (Trip's) own Froakie Kululu. Eventually, Ash called for a break in the training.
"Alright Froakie," Ash remarked, "I think we made some decent progress."
"I would say not!" a myserious voice called from the trees, "I think that your Froakie's training is a bit-"
The mysterious voice was cut off when Trip's Magmortar, Mr. Popo, fired a Flamethrower in the direction the voice was coming from as the named Magmortar gave a surprised yelp. This forced a boy dressed in a blue ninja outfit to leap out from under the cover of some kind of shroud. A Frogadier also jumped out with the boy and grouped up with him. "What is the matter with your Magmortar?!" the ninja boy exclaimed at Trip.
"Hey, you're the one who sneaked up on us and startled us by calling out from where we couldn't see you!" Trip snapped back, "If you wanted to get our attention, then you could have just approached us directly instead of making us think we had a stalker! I mean, for all we know you could have been part of a group of Team Scorn members trying to ambush us!"
"One, I am a ninja!" the ninja boy snapped back, "We always use stealth when approaching others! Two, how dare you compare me to those most detestable villains!"
"Considering the fact that I battled a member of Team Scorn who was also a ninja, I think Trip's pretty justified in the comparison!" Kenny scowled.
"You dare insult my ninja honor by implying I belong to that foul clan of villains?!" the ninja boy barked, "I will-"
"Boys!" Dawn shouted, "Forest fire!" Trip, Kenny, and the ninja boy all turned to see that there was now a forest fire starting, due to the fire from Mr. Popo's Flamethrower attack starting to spread. The heroes, aided by the ninja boy, proceeded to go about doing what they could to extinguish the fire before it spread to the point that it could have been a real disaster.
...
Thankfully, the forest fire was quelled by the heroes before it spread too far. However, the effort was exhausting for some of them; Bonnie, as well as Ash's Froakie, both collapsed out of exhaustion after the last of the fire was put out. "I... suppose that I ought to keep in mind that not all folks follow the ninja way," the ninja boy said as he and the others caught their breath, "Maybe being upfront rather than use stealth was the way for me to go."
Ash nodded in agreement, then turned to look at where Bonnie and Froakie were both collapsed on the ground in exhaustion. Ash then saw the ninja boy's Frogadier help Froakie back up to his feet. "That's the evolved from of Froakie, I take it?" Ash asked the ninja boy while pointing at Frogadier.
"Indeed he is," the ninja boy replied with a nod, "He is Frogadier. As for myself, my name is Sanpei."
"You trained your Frogadier really well," Ash said, "He's not winded at all even after what all he did to help fight the forest fire."
Folding his arms over his chest, the now identified Sanpei remarked, "A normal Frogadier would have been similarly as winded as your Froakie after that effort. The only reason why mine is still on his feet is due to the strict training I put him through." Arching a wry eyebrow, Sanpei went on, "I could help your Froakie along as well in the same manner, if you wish."
Ash gave it a moment's thought before saying, "Actually, yeah, that sounds good. I saw how your Frogadier used Quick Attack to rush in to help the fire out, maybe we can get my Froakie to learn Quick Attack."
"Ooh, ooh, I wanna be a ninja too!" Bonnie said, holding a hand up excitedly.
Stepping forward, Serena said, "Well I can make some ninja outfits if you'd like."
"And I shall make ninja outfits as well!" Kenny boasted, drawing concerned looks from Trip and (especially) Dawn. As such, Sanpei went on and got the training set up after providing Ash with some medicine to perk Froakie back up. Meanwhile, Serena and Kenny went about making their ninja outfits for various members of the group while Sanpei was busy.
Eventually, Ash's training with Sanpei was ready, as were the outfits Serena and Kenny made. Serena made outfits for Bonnie, Pikachu, and Dedenne, while Kenny made outfits for himself, Dawn and Trip. The outfits worn by Bonnie and the electric Pokémon looked more like traditional ninja outfits albeit colored, but the ones worn by the reborn trainers were far from what could be considered 'normal' ninja outfits. Kenny dressed himself up in an orange jacket with black trim and matching pants, Dawn was wearing a baggy cream and lavender colored hoodie with jeans whose legs reached halfway down Dawn's shins, and Trip wore a green spandex jumpsuit with matching leggings and a sleeveless dark green jacket.
They all wore identical pairs of 'shinobi sandals' as Kenny called them, and they all had steel plated ninja headbands that had pokéball designs in the middle of the steel plates. Kenny wore his around his head, Dawn wore hers down around her neck, and the cloth on Trip's was long enough that he was able to wear it around his waist as a belt. "As you can plainly see," Kenny began, "I have outfitted the lads and I in proper ninja outfits!"
Sanpei, with a weirded out look on his face, gestured to Kenny. "...It looks more like you tried to get your friends there to cosplay with you as ninja characters from an anime about ninjas with fantastical ninja powers." Turning to look at Ash, Sanpei said, "Anyway, let's begin the training. Now, since you want Froakie to learn Quick Attack, we'll start there."
Nodding once in understanding, Ash said, "Got it!"
"First," Sanpei said, "For moves such as Quick Attack, the swift movements for it require muscles that move like springs."
"And I have an invention that can help!" Clemont said, "The Muscle Mass Magnifying Machine!" Clemont then put on a pair of robotic looking boots.
As Clemont was putting on his high tech boots, Kenny leaned to his side to whisper to Dawn and Trip, "Hoo boy, this shit again." None of the rest of the group heard Kenny, although Trip and Dawn had to suppress some snickering. Eventually, Clemont got his invention on, but the springs in the invention proved too strong, and as a result Clemont was sent blasting off into the sky, soaring above the others like an early dream of mankind.
...
Later after Clemont was recovered, Frogadier decided to run Froakie through its basic exercises after Ash encouraged it. Sanpei then began to move quickly back and forth as he himself exercised, wanting to combine his heart with that of Frogadier's. Ash as well as Bonnie got into it and got faster and faster as things progressed. Then Sanpei did a water-running exercise which Frogadier, Ash, Froakie, and Kenny all tried. Frogadier pulled it off easily, Froakie after enough tries was able to pull it off, and both Ash and (especially since he tried MANY times) Kenny got soaked.
The first stages of training were done, and while Kenny got back into his normal outfit as he soaked his 'ninja' outfit, the group all had lunch. While the group were all eating, Ash said, "Hey Sanpei, what's your hometown like?"
Sanpei, after swallowing a mouth full of food, replied, "Oh, my hometown of Ninja Village. It's populated by folks who live the way of the ninja. My oldest brother Ippei and my older brother who is second born Nihei are the best and second best ninjas respectively in Ninja Village. Ippei has a Greninja and Nihei has a Venusaur."
"The ninja guy from Team Scorn who I fought also owns a Greninja," Kenny spoke up, "His other two Pokémon being Ninjask and Ninetails. I was able to deal with Ninjask and Ninetails without too much difficulty, but his Greninja took out my Tyranitar in battle before my Scizor finished Greninja off." Kenny then told the tale of his encounter with Admin Ninja and Admin's Assistant Goemon back in Lilycove City, Hoenn, how the two even wore plain clothes disguises and were working behind the scenes to carry out their plan, which more or less saw the success that Admin Ninja wanted.
The other heroes aside from Dawn who was also there were surprised, and even Sanpei grimaced in resigned bitterness. "...They are evil," Sanpei said, "But I still can't deny that their tactics in their foul attack on Lilycove City used some legitimate ninja skills." To the heroes, Sanpei went on, "It's all the more reason why there ought to be ninjas of goodly intent along for the ride to help fight off Team Scorn's evil."
As the heroes all nodded in agreement with Sanpei, a bunch of wild Pokémon came stampeding towards their direction randomly. Seeing this, the heroes and Sanpei all leapt into action to deal with the rush of wild Pokémon. Dawn, Kenny, and Trip had Levy, Nogla, and Kululu out and watching as Chi-Chi, Roshi, and Myde fought off the wild Pokémon alongside the Pokémon that the rest of the heroes used. A Skiddo nearly rammed into Frogadier, but he evaded it with Quick Attack before going on to hit Skiddo back, knocking it out.
Ash's Froakie was almost hit by a Furfrou, but Ash called out, "Froakie, get out of there!" Suddenly, Ash's Froakie conjured multiple doppelgangers of itself, with the real Froakie leaping back as the doppelgangers repelled the Furfrou, with two doppelgangers being busted. "Ash's Froakie had just learned Double Team!" Kenny said, "That's one of the moves that Admin Ninja's Greninja had used!"
Froakie, after he landed back with Ash, looked up at his trainer. "Wow, Froakie!" Ash said, "You learned Double Team!" Froakie seemed happy with the praise he got from his trainer as he hung back and fired Water Pulses into the stampede of wild Pokémon. After a while, the stampede of wild Pokémon was defeated, and all of them were sent packing, leaving the heroes and Sanpei be.
"Well that's a relief," Kenny said as Roshi came back to him, "I don't think that-" Kenny was then cut off when suddenly, Nogla began evolving. Similarly, Levy and Kululu also began to evolve. After the glowing, growing, and form changing was done, Nogla, Levy, and Kululu had evolved into Quilladin, Braixen, and Frogadier respectively. "Well alright!" Kenny cheered, "Nogla evolved into-"
"QUIIIILLLLLLL!" Nogla cried out randomly before proceeding to just stand there, looking silly. Dawn was surprised that the Kalos starters she, Kenny, and Trip all got had evolved despite what little training they got; she was going to attribute it to all Pokémon in the trainer's party getting experience from a battle.
With the chaos settled, the heroes after they and Sanpei caught their breath had to part ways, as Sanpei needed to get going. But he and Ash decided to have a battle the next time they both saw one another. Although it wasn't Quick Attack like he had intended, Ash was still happy with the Double Team that his Froakie had learned in their time witn Sanpei. As such, it was with new moves learned that the heroes set off on the road once again, aiming to reach Camphrier Town as it was the next big stop on their travels to Cyllage City.
Eventually, after some traveling, the heroes reached Camphrier Town. "Ah, Camphrier Town," Trip said, "Our next step on the road to Cyllage City. I can taste that second Kalos gym badge al-"
*ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ*
Trip was cut off by a loud and terribly sounding noise. "Oh man, who farted?" Kenny exclaimed.
Sniffing about the air, Bonnie said, "Nope, doesn't smell like someone farted."
"That sounded more like very loud snoring," Clemont remarked, and at that point the heroes were approached by a Camphrier Town citizen, a woman.
Seeing the woman approach the group, Ash asked her, "Excuse us, ma'am, but do you know what made that noise just now?"
The woman nodded once in the affirmative. "Yes. Follow me, please, I can show you what's going on." Curious, the heroes proceeded to follow the woman to see what it was that she had to show them.
...
Eventually, the woman led the heroes to where a wild Snorlax was sleeping right in the middle of town. "Ah, so that noise was Snorlax's snoring," Kenny remarked, "My own Snorlax Slick doesn't snore like that. In fact, I'm not sure if he does snore at all. But either way, Slick not snoring like that is why I was confused."
"I see," the woman said, "But anyway, the Snorlax here is actually rather important. You see, once per year, Snorlax here comes down from the mountains and uproots the roots of crops that were already harvested. Uprooting those roots causes the fields to be cultivated, letting good crops grow. Every year, once all of the roots are uprooted and eaten by Snorlax here, a festival is held in thanks to Snorlax, where Lord Shabboneau plays his Poké Flute to wake Snorlax up so it can get on back home to the mountains."
Gesturing to where Snorlax laid on the ground in the middle of the town, Dawn said, "And the Snorlax here is still there because..."
Shrugging, the woman said, "We've gotten everything for the festival prepped, but Snorlax wasn't given the cue to return home to the mountains, so there it lays in the middle of town."
"I got this!" Clemont said as he strutted forward with some weird alarm clock invention he made, "This alarm clock, which I made for helping to wake up Bonnie when she decides to be difficult, ought to be more than enough to-"
*BOOM*
Clemont was cut off when the alarm clock exploded, failing to even make Snorlax so much as stir. "You wake your little sister up with explosions?!" Kenny exclaimed, "What sort of sick sadistic monster are you?!"
"It's supposed to make a loud ringing noise, not explode," an ash and soot covered Clemont replied as he stumbled away from Snorlax.
"Then just get Bonnie a regular alarm clock!" Kenny scowled, "Or gently shake her by one of her shoulders until she gets up! Holy geez, what is seriously wrong with you, Clemont?!"
Going up to Kenny, Dawn said, "Kenny, relax. I'm certain that Clemont would never deliberately use explosions to wake Bonnie up. I know your own instincts as an older brother must be kicking in, but there's no need to-"
"Espurr!"
Dawn was cut off when she and the others heard an Espurr call out. Turning to look, the heroes saw an Espurr, with a firm and confident look on its face, approach the sleeping Snorlax. Suddenly, the Espurr pulled its right front paw back as if it were going to punch something, then dash forward and threw the most adorable little punch ever into the big blubbery belly of the snoring slumbering Snorlax. Espurr's efforts were even less effective than Clemont's explosive alarm clock that he made to wake his little sister up with.
Chuckling a bit in sincere amusement, the woman said, "Oh, that little cutie is trying to help out again." Turning to look at the heroes, the woman explained, "That's a wild Espurr who wandered into Camphrier Town earlier from somewhere on Route 6, or Palais Lane as the route's also known as. The little guy seems determined to help us wake Snorlax up and send it home, but all of his efforts have failed so far." Turning to look where Espurr stood, the woman remarked, "Although Espurr is still being very adorable in his earnestness to help us with Snorlax."
Seeing Espurr punch Snorlax in the belly again to absolutely no effect, Clemont said after looking at Espurr's efforts for a bit, "Aha! He's trying to use Power-Up Punch!" Looking confused, Clemont said, "But last I checked, Espurr as a species is incapable of learning Power-Up Punch."
Espurr tried and failed a third time in a row to use Power-Up Punch, but after that failure Espurr was approached by Kenny, a serious look on his face. "Little one," Kenny began, getting Espurr's attention, "I see that you wish to achieve great feats by channeling the power of cringe. Come with me, and under my guidance you'll soon grow into a fine Pokémon who can accomplish feats that make waking up a sleeping Snorlax look like mere child's play." Espurr, as it looked up at Kenny with its big ol' eyes for a few seconds, eventually gave a cry of agreement before hopping up into Kenny's arms.
As Kenny held the Espurr, Bonnie let out a cute giggle. "Kenny's got another cute kitty Pokémon friend!"
"Well this is all well and good, but we still need to wake the Snorlax up," Dawn said, "And we're gonna have to avoid resorting to the brute force method this time because the Snorlax is important to the townspeople as it helps with the fields. I'm pretty sure the townspeople wouldn't like it if we just blasted Snorlax with attacks from our Pokémon until the assault wakes it up."
"No we could not," the woman confirmed, "Maybe you guys can try taking the case up with Lord Shabboneau over at Shabboneau Castle? A few have tried already but failed, but maybe you guys will have better luck."
"New plan," Kenny said as he and the rest of the heroes went over to Shabboneau Castle, "We use the brute force method on the lord guy if he-"
"Kenny," Dawn said, "No."
Soon, the heroes got into Shabboneau Castle and met Lord Shabboneau. Figuring a diplomatic approach was in order, Dawn led the group and introduced herself to Lord Shabboneau first. "Greetings, Lord Shabboneau," Dawn said, banking heavily on her experience in role-playing she had cultivated while playing 5th edition D&D back in her previous life, "And thank you for being willing to see us. I am Dawn Berlitz, Champion of the Sinnoh region, and-"
"Oh geez," Lord Shabboneau said, clearly sounding worried, "The townsfolk are so fed up with me not using the Poké Flute to wake up the Snorlax that they somehow got a hold of a foreign region's Champion and sent her to force things out of me?"
"Sir," a butler who stood near Lord Shabboneau said, "You really ought to just come clean and tell the truth."
Dawn was surprised, thinking that she must have rolled a natural twenty in some manner, if she and her friends were getting real answers right away just because she introduced herself as the Champion of Sinnoh. "...Yes, this is about the Snorlax sleeping in the middle of town," Dawn said, "The townsfolk told my friends and I that they've tried multiple times to get you to do what I've gathered is a duty of yours and use the Poké Flute to wake Snorlax up so it could get on going back home to the mountains. We'd like to know why you've not done so yet."
Sighing in a troubled and resigned tone, Lord Shabboneau replied, "The truth is that the Poké Flute was taken from me by Princess Allie of Parfum Palace, located on the other end of Route 6 from here."
"So this Princess Allie person just up and took the Poké Flute," Dawn said, "Do you know why she took it? Also, did she even ask?"
Gently shaking his head, Lord Shabboneau replied, "No, she didn't ask. She just up and took it because she thought it looked pretty. I haven't gotten it back because I don't want to risk upsetting Princess Allie, as upsetting her might sour relations between me and her father, who I've always been on good terms with. I really don't want to risk incurring the wrath of the royal family."
Sighing, Dawn said, "Then I guess my friends and I will have to go to Parfum Palace and try to reason with Princess Allie."
"Be careful," Lord Shabboneau said, "If she sees something of your group's that she likes, she may try to claim it for herself."
"And if she does, I'll point out to her that it'll risk an inter-regional incident between Kalos and Sinnoh if she harasses my friends and I," Dawn said, "And Kanto may also join Sinnoh as an ally against Kalos if Princess Allie harasses Ash for some reason."
Lord Shabboneau perked up a bit at that. "...Hey, yeah!" Lord Shabboneau said, "If there's one thing the royal family of Kalos doesn't wanna do, it's risk incurring the wrath of a foreign region in an inter-regional incident! Especially since Kalos is trying to deal with an entire sector of that horrid Team Scorn group trying to take root here on Kalosian soil! I wish you and your friends luck in beseeching Princess Allie to return the Poké Flute!" Dawn hoped that she'd roll another natural twenty as she and the rest of the heroes tried to convince Princess Allie to hand over the Poké Flute so they could wake up the Snorlax.
Soon, the heroes made it to Parfum Palace. As they were led to see Princess Allie by a butler, the butler said, "Princess Allie is already seeing an important guest, so I bet it will throw her for a loop when she's informed that a foreign region's Champion came to Parfum Palace to see her."
That got Dawn's attention, as she remembered from events here in the anime in her previous life that Princess Allie more or less greeted the group upon their arrival to Parfum Palace. If Princess Allie here didn't greet the group because of a visitor she was already entertaining, then the visitor in question either is very important to the princess, is a close personal friend of hers, or a mix of both of those factors. Soon enough, the butler opened a large pair of doors that led into a parlor room, explaining that Princess Allie was waiting inside.
To the surprise of the heroes, they not only saw Princess Allie, but also saw that her guest was Grand Duchess Sabine De Mornay, who they met previously in Odyssey Town where she told them about a regional hero who was made to suffer a fall from grace and ended up as a Team Scorn Admin. Seeing the visitors, Sabine perked up a bit in pleasant surprise. "Oh, you're Grace's daughter and her friends," Sabine said, "With one of said friends being Sinnoh Champion Dawn Berlitz. What brings all of you here to Parfum Palace?"
"We... came to get the Poké Flute which we were told was taken here by Princess Allie," Serena explained, "The townsfolk in Camphrier Town need it so that Lord Shabboneau can use it to wake up a Snorlax sleeping in the middle of town and send it back to its home in the mountains." Sighing, Serena said, "Sorry, but we weren't expecting on running into you here."
"Grand Duchess Sabine was talking to me as she wished to express concerns for me," Princess Allie explained, "She's aware that I'm not all that fond of her first born daughter, Duchess Sarah, and knew that I wouldn't be happy at all with how Duchess Sarah is set to marry the oldest son of my oldest uncle."
Dawn saw that this was talk of politics between nobles and royals, so she tried approaching things diplomatically again. "The oldest son of your oldest uncle, you say?" Dawn asked.
Nodding once in the affirmative, Princess Allie said, "My father is the oldest of three brothers, hence why he's the king right now. My oldest uncle is the middle brother, and my youngest uncle is the... well, you get the point. Anyway, my oldest uncle's oldest son had been arranged to be married to Duchess Sarah, an arrangement made between my oldest uncle and the family of Duchess Sarah." Gesturing to Sabine, Princess Allie went on, "Of which Grand Duchess Sabine here is a member of."
"And you are not fond of Duchess Sarah?" Dawn asked.
Princess Allie gently shook her head in the negative. "No, I am not. Duchess Sarah, with all due respect, is a foul little horrible excuse for a noble. She embodies all of the negative stereotypes commoners usually associate with nobles and royals. I know her to have bullied her little sister Duchess Maaya in the past and by the way I'm actually fond of Duchess Maaya, and I'm not sure if you've heard, but Sarah levied a false rape accusation against a former Kalosian regional hero and got him stripped of all of his honors and made him turn to a life of crime."
Gesturing to Sabine, Trip said, "The Grand Duchess here actually told us already of how her daughter Duchess Sarah played the primary role in the creation of one of Team Scorn's Admins. But I agree that Duchess Sarah, with all due respect, could do the nobility better."
Sabine did not argue the point. "I really should have been more firm with my first born daughter. Hopefully this marriage will help to straighten her out some."
"I wouldn't count on it," Princess Allie replied. The princess then wore a resigned expression. "...I suppose that I'm not too much of a person to bust Duchess Sarah's chops. I acted similarly as bad when I took the Poké Flute from Lord Shabboneau. But I just couldn't help it, it looked so pretty! Also, I was hoping to learn to play it so I could play music for my Furfrou."
"...Princess Allie," Dawn began, getting the princess's attention, "Would you be interested in getting one up on Duchess Sarah, proving that you're a better person than she is?"
"Tell me what to do," Princess Allie replied, instantly on board with the idea of getting one up on Sabine's first born daughter.
...
Dawn felt that she must have been really lucky and rolled a lot of natural twenties, given how easily she and the rest of the heroes were able to convince Princess Allie to hand over the Poké Flute. Princess Allie even included a letter of apology to Lord Shabboneau that she wrote herself, expressing her regret and saying that she would have personally come by to return the Poké Flute had it not been for matters of court keeping her occupied. The heroes delivered both the Poké Flute and the letter from Princess Allie to Lord Shabboneau who, upon getting the Poké Flute, proceeded to wake up the Snorlax and send it on home after it ate the offerings the townsfolk had presented to it.
After the Snorlax returned to its home in the mountains, the heroes settled in Camphrier Town for the night, so as to watch a fireworks show. During the fireworks show, as the heroes all watched it, Kenny took the opportunity to officially capture the Espurr that he had been carrying around ever since it leapt into his arms when he had invited it to join him. It was a boy, as was previously mentioned. "His name shall be Hovernyan," Kenny declared.
"Ooh, ooh," Bonnie said, "That name sounds similar to the one your shiny Skitty has, Kenny."
Dawn rolled her eyes. "Bonnie, you have no idea." The heroes settled down after that, and spent the rest of the show just watching the fireworks.
END, CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED AND FIFTY-EIGHT
Author's notes;
This chapter sees the events of XY017 and XY018 adapted to this story's setting, with changes made to be more appropriate with what all is going on. Ash and Froakie have their first encounter with Sanpei and Froakie begins training that will eventually see him to his destiny, also the Kalos starters that the reborn trainers have all evolve. After that, the heroes reach Camphrier Town, which is located close to Kalos Route 6 where one can find Espurr in the games, as Kenny was wanting to catch an Espurr for himself which he did. Princess Allie and Lord Shabboneau were shown because of the Kalosian royalty and nobility having some connection in the background of a certain regional hero who was disgraced due solely to a noble girl's ego.
Anyway, the next chapter will just skip the stuff with the evil Malamar entirely, see the Battle Chateau events adapted as it introduces Grant the Cyllage City gym leader, and skim over a few episodes I feel aren't important, and go right onto when the heroes reach Ambrette Town, which will have entirely different events due to how Ambrette Town is the location of Kalos's fossil lab, where one in the games can revive fossils into Pokémon. Dawn and Kenny are both slated to get some new Pokémon out of that, as is Ash but what he'll get won't be cut from the same cloth.
Dawn's Pokémon: (on hand) Chi-Chi (female Infernape), Levy (female Braixen), Germany (male Garchomp), Argent (male Arcanine; alpha; Hisuian), Leni (female Lucario), Tsukune (Palkia)
