Chapter One-hundred and sixty: FiGhT mEh YoU cOwArD! (part two)

Ambrette Town was currently besieged by a force of Team Scorn members, with three targets in particular being focused on although there were some Team Scorn members spread throughout Ambrette Town. The three targets in question were the local convention hall where a Hisuian history tour exhibit was going to be on display, the Ambrette Aquarium, and lastly the local fossil research lab where Pokémon fossils can be revived into Pokémon. ...Although the fossil revival tech that's at the fossil research lab had proven capable of also reviving Pokémon from skeletal remains just as effectively as if it had used a Pokémon fossil.

Hence why there was an alpha Hisuian Braviary flying around in the greenhouse area of the fossil research lab, having been revived with the fossil revival tech which used the alpha Hisuian Braviary skeleton that was one of the exhibits for the Hisuian history tour that was going to go on display. The Braviary was one of the many Pokémon revived by the group of Team Scorn members who were present, who revived as many of the fossils there into Pokémon as possible, and also decided to see if using the skeletal remians would also work. Which it did, much to their pleasant surprise.

While Team Scorn at the fossil research lab had the lab staff all tied up so they could figure out how to get all of the revived Pokémon out of there, in the greenhouse area where the Pokémon were all at, the alpha Hisuian Braviary was flying down at a rather challenging Tyrunt while and Aerodactyl was trying to talk it out of fighting the much smaller Pokémon. Aerodactyl was able to shove Braviary out of the way from its course that would have taken it straight to the challenging Tyrunt, who upon seeing two large flying Pokémon coming straight its way let out a high pitched shrill little girl scream.

Braviary, seeing that Aerodactyl was going to keep getting in its way, decided to fight the flying fossil Pokémon, and proceeded to fly right at it with its wings enshrouded in a psychic aura, aiming to slash at Aerodactyl with its wings. However, when Braviary got close enough, Aerodactyl bit down on one of the wings with Crunch, making Braviary cry out and falter back a bit after Aerodactyl released its biting grip. Recovering from falling back, Braviary then conjured and cast a Shadow Ball attack right at Aerodactyl, who countered it by bashing it apart with Iron Head, dissipating the attack from Braviary harmlessly enough.

Braviary then whipped up an Air Slash attack that went on to strike Aerodactyl, eliciting a pained snarling cry from Aerodactyl as a response. Aerodactyl then summoned down big rocks to fall down around Braviary in the use of Rock Tomb, actually hitting Braviary and doing a solid chunk of damage. But the alpha Hisuian Pokémon was far from finished, and it gave an enraged cawing cry before conjuring a Dazzling Gleam attack that it cast at Aerodactyl. The flying fossil Pokémon was able to tank it out by using Iron Head to block as much of it as possible, but Braviary still was proving to be a tough opponent.

After Aerodactyl had tanked the Dazzling Gleam from Braviary, both of them heard a human cry out, "Pikachu, use Thunderbolt on that weird looking Braviary!" Braviary was then struck by a Thunderbolt attack from out of nowhere, making it falter down to ground level, where both Braviary as well as the still airborne Aerodactyl saw a pair of two humans, the one wearing a hat commanding a Pikachu, had rushed on into the greenhouse area of the fossil research lab to see what all was going on and, to the Aerodactyl's relief, were helping with subduing the hostile Braviary rather than turn on Aerodactyl itself.

"It's a good thing that chubby scientist girl told us she saw Braviary here harassing the small fossil Pokémon while Aerodactyl was trying to reason with it to get it to stand down," Ochaco said as she and Ash ran in to try and subdue the hostile alpha Hisuian Braviary, Ash commanding his Pikachu and Ochaco commanding a Castform.

"Hopefully Dawn and Kenny can keep Team Scorn off our backs for long enough," Ash said. Turning to look where Aerodactyl landed and respectfully backed away while gesturing to Braviary and crying out, Ash said, "It's a good thing that Aerodactyl here clearly isn't wanting to cause trouble."

As Braviary recovered from being hit by Pikachu's Thunderbolt, Ash and Ochaco heard a scared Pokémon cry out in alarmed confusion. Turning to see, Ash and Ochaco saw that it was an Amarua. Braviary also spotted the Amaura and, still in the mood to fight, conjured and cast a Shadow Ball attack at Amaura. The Amarua, seeing that it was going to be hit, was too scared to move and began to quiver out of fright, only for Ochaco to run in, grab Amarua, and jumped out of the way while holding onto the scared fossil Pokémon while crying out, "Look out, Amarua!"

Ochaco and Amarua got our of the way just in time to avoid Braviary's Shadow Ball attack, which went on to bash into a tree. As the Braviary cawed out in annoyed anger over its attack missing, Ash called out, "Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!" Pikachu then cast another Thunderbolt attack at the alpha Hisuian Braviary, striking it again and also this time inflicting paralysis. As weak jolts of electricity danced over Braviary's form, it tried getting up but the combination of the damage it took thus far and its paralysis made it stumble on its feet as it tried to get up. Seeing this, Ash said, "Pikachu, use Grass Knot!"

Pikachu then conjured up two strong blades of grass that tied together at the tips to tie over one of Braviary's feet, tripping it up and making it fall over onto the ground. Despite how Grass Knot wasn't very effective on Braviary, it was done more to trip it up in the hopes its would stay down for a bit. Turning to see Ochaco recover from her jumping out of the way with Amarua, Ash called out, "Hey, are you and Amarua alright?"

"We're both fine," Ochaco called back as she helped Amarua up to its feet. Turning to look where Braviary laid on the ground, Ochaco said, "It looks like Braviary will try to keep fighting if left alone." Turning to look at Ash, Ochaco said, "I don't suppose you have any spare pokéballs, do you?"

Arching a curious eyebrow out of mild confusion, Ash replied, "I do, but why-"

"Try catching Braviary," Ochaco said, "If it's captured, then it'll stand down at your command. I'd try the plan myself, but I have no spare pokéballs to use."

A bit surprised by Ochaco's idea, Ash nonetheless gave it a shot. Taking out a spare pokéball, Ash expanded it and threw it at the alpha hisuian Braviary while crying out, "Go pokéball!" The pokéball flew right at Braviary, smacked into it, took it inside, then fell to the ground with a light clink. It then proceeded to shake a bit, making Ash and Ochaco both look on out of nervousness in the hopes that the capture will stick. To their relief, the pokéball ended up making a ping sound, indicating that Ash had captured the alpha Hisuian Braviary. Ash walked over and picked up the pokéball that held his newly caught Pokémon.

Although Ash is one to normally celebrate catching a new Pokémon, given what all was going on, he knew that now wasn't exactly the best time. "Hey, we ought to check on all of the Pokémon here to make sure they aren't hurt," Ash said to Ochaco, "For all we know, Braviary before I caught it may have-"

"TyRuNt!"

Ash was cut off when he, Ochaco, and Pikachu heard a Tyrunt call out. Turning to see, they all saw the same Tyrunt who had egged Braviary on earlier, looking right at them as it cried out "TyRuNt!" at them once again. Tyrunt attempted to cry out at them again, but got cut off with a smack on its head from Aerodactyl, who proceeded to scold Tyrunt for its recklessness. Ash, in his experience, knew Aerodactyls to usually be aggressors, so seeing one essentially being the voice of reason threw him for a bit of a loop, although he welcomed the help of a responsible Pokémon nonetheless.

...

Eventually, Team Scorn was driven out of Ambrette Town thanks in good part to the efforts that the heroes gave. According to Dawn who with Kenny drove off the Team Scorn Officer who led the attack on Ambrette Town, said officer who was identified as Third Captain Jun (the guy with the single pauldron) of the Shield Sector cited the items that were going to be put on display at the Hisuian history tour exhibit at the convention hall as Team Scorn's goal for the siege. They were planning to steal all of the historical artifacts that were going to go on display, and to buy time for himself and the grunts he was leading, Jun had a number of other places targeted so as to make those who'd fight against them have to spread out.

To further buy time for him and the grunts with him at the fossil research lab to get away with the Hisuian displays which were being stored at the fossil research lab, Jun had the fossil revival tech used to revive as many of the Pokémon fossils there as possible into Pokémon, then sent those Pokémon into a panic, figuring that any would-be heroes who showed up would have to deal with the panicking fossil Pokémon. Jun had also decided to use the fossil revival tech to revive a Pokémon from the skeletal remains of an alpha Hisuian Braviary, figuring it would help further distract any would-be heroes who showed up.

To Jun's unfortunate luck however, Ash and Ochaco showed up with Dawn and Kenny, letting Ash and Ochaco deal with the revived Pokémon while Dawn and Kenny dealt with Jun and the men he had with him. The Team Scorn grunts used Pokémon commonly associated with villainous team grunts, with some heavy Kalos influence, while Jun himself had a pair of Scythers. Regardless, the only reason it took Dawn and Kenny any length of time to beat them was due to the numbers they had; Dawn and Kenny were way too much for Jun and the men he had with him to deal with. After his defeat at the fossil research lab, Jun called for his men to fall back. The word was spread over comm devices, and soon all of Team Scorn withdrew from Ambrette Town.

As Ambrette Town caught its collective breath, the heroes all met up over at the fossil research lab. Meeting there were two people from the tour group managing the Hisuian history tour; in addition to the skeletal remains of the alpha Hisuian Braviary being used up to revive an alpha Hisuian Braviary into modern times, several of the smaller exhibits that were part of the tour were successfully stolen as Dawn and Kenny, though too strong for Team Scorn to overwhelm with power, were kept occupied by the sheer numbers that were there. Only the largest, heaviest, and most unruly to carry items of the tour weren't taken.

"Well this is just great!" the tour director said as she threw her hands into the air, "We lost over a dozen different exhibits that were part of the tour, including the skeleton of an alpha Hisuian Pokémon!"

To the tour director, Thaddeus said, "With all due respect ma'am, considering the fact that we just got out of Ambrette Town being besieged by Team Scorn, things could have been far worse. The only injuries suffered were minor scuffs that were suffered by Pokémon that were used to help drive Team Scorn out of Ambrette Town, and those injuries can be easily remedied at the local Pokémon Center."

The chubby scientist girl nodded in agreement. "Yes. What's especially lucky is the fact that no one had died. On the contrary, many lives were actually brought back to life during the siege, given that a lot of Pokémon had been revived from fossils during the siege."

The tour director and her assistant turned and saw the fossil Pokémon that were revived during the Team Scorn attack on Ambrette Town. Now that things had been settled, the newly revived Pokémon were relaxing in the greenhouse area. Letting out a sigh, the tour director replied, "I suppose so." Turning to look at Ash, the tour director said, "I got it that you're the one who captured the alpha Hisuian Braviary that was revived from the skeletal remains using the fossil revival tech here at the lab. Is that correct?"

"It is, yeah," Ash replied, "I suppose you'll be wanting to take it back?"

"Actually, it's best that you keep Braviary," the tour director said to Ash, "We lack the means to properly care for it, especially since it was reported to be easily provoked into a fight which tells me my team and I won't be able to command it easily."

Nodding once in understanding, Ash said, "Alright, thank you."

"Speaking of Pokémon that are going home with trainers," Thaddeus said as he turned to face Dawn, "The Aerodactyl that Ash and that Ochaco girl reported was trying to help subdue Braviary was revived from the Old Amber that you found, Dawn. Likewise, the Amaura that Ochaco saved and the Tyrunt that strangely tried to egg Braviary on into fighting it were revived from the Sail and Jaw Fossils that Kenny found. That being said, Aerodactyl is yours to take, and Kenny will be allowed to choose between Amaura and Tyrunt for him to take."

Dawn nodded once in understanding. "Thank you. Oh, by the way, what do you mean by how the Tyrunt tried to egg Braviary into fi-"

"TyRuNt!" Dawn was cut off when she and the others heard Tyrunt cry out again. Turning to look, everyone saw Tyrunt standing there while looking straight at them. "TyRuNt!" the Tyrunt cried out again.

Serena was a bit confused by Tyrunt's seemingly trying to egg others on. "Well..." Serena said, "...I'd certainly say that Tyrunt here is very-"

"TyRuNt!" the Tyrunt cried out at Serena, turning to face her after having heard her speak up.

Bonnie, compared to Serena who was a bit weirded out, giggled cutely in amusement. "Tyrunt here is really silly," Bonnie said, "I think it-"

"TyRuNt!" the Tyrunt cried out again, this time at Bonnie.

Before anyone can speak up again, Kenny yelled at Tyrunt, "FiGhT mEh!"

"TyRuNt!"

"FiGhT mEh!"

"TyRuNt!"

"FiGhT mEh!"

"TyRuNt Ty-TyRuNt!"

"FiGhT mEh YoU cOwArD!"

Clemont, with a baffled expression, said, "Is... is Kenny bonding with Tyrunt?"

"Yes Clemont," Dawn said, with the driest of tones and expressions. Naturally, Kenny ended up choosing to take Tyrunt to keep. Dawn and Kenny then got the pokéballs for Aerodactyl and Tyrunt respectively. Both of them were male, and Dawn saw that Aerodactyl had an Adamant nature and the Pressure ability. After looking at her Aerodactyl's pokéball, Dawn said, "I'm going to name him Ieyasu."

"And Tyrunt shall be named Rex," Kenny said, "It's a name that perfectly fits his personality." After the new Pokémon were sent to Oak's lab as Dawn and Kenny couldn't work with them right away, the heroes were surprised when Thaddeus said that it was a good thing Kenny chose to take Tyrunt, as Amarua had clearly bonded to Ochaco during Team Scorn's attack on the fossil research lab given how she saved it from an attack while Braviary was rampaging, and he was going to let Ochaco take Amaura had Kenny not chosen it first. Ochaco, who was happy to finally get a fossil revived Pokémon, eagerly accepted Amaura's pokéball and used it to recall Amarua.

As the heroes finished up business in Ambrette Town, Trip who cited having read about it in the copy of 'Paranoia's Price' that Dawn owned (Trip actually knew it due to having played PLA back in his previous life, not that he said so out loud) said that Ash's Braviary, which is the Hisuian variant rather than the Unovan variant, is a dual psychic flying type. Taking a look at its moves, the heroes saw that Ash's Braviary came knowing a move called Esper Wing, along with Air Slash, Shadow Ball, and Dazzling Gleam. Dawn realized, thanks to knowledge from her previous life, that Braviary would make Ash's goes against the gyms in Shalour City and Coumarine City a hell of a lot easier for him.

Given the late time of the day, the heroes decided that it would be best to rest in Ambrette Town for the night. When Ochaco said she had to take off, Bonnie asked her if they would see each other again. Smiling gently, Ochaco said that she got the feeling that she'd be seeing the heroes again someday, especially since she cited how she planned to become a breakout name in the field of research into Pokémon revived from fossils. The heroes, understanding that Ochaco had to take off, waved her good-bye as they saw her take off from the Ambrette Town Pokémon Center.

Speaking of, the heroes all went inside to have their Pokémon looked over and treated while settling down for the night in the bunk rooms. Kenny had to suppress a chuckle when he saw all of the girls in their Pokémon themed sleep outfits again, although he was mostly chuckling at Dawn who wore her Infernape sleep outfit. After Dawn scowled at Kenny, he shut up and everyone settled down to go to bed for the night. In the morning, the heroes would take off to continue their journey to Cyllage City, where the second gym that Ash and the reborn trainers would challenge laid in wait.

The following morning, the heroes were getting ready to leave Ambrette Town when they were met up outside of the Pokémon Center. "Oh, I'm glad I had caught up to your group, Dawn," Thaddeus said as he jogged up to the heroes.

Seeing that Thaddeus was looking for her specifically, Dawn asked, "What is it?"

Before saying anything, Thaddeus pulled out what Dawn was able to identify as a Mega Stone. "This was something that was sent to the fossil research lab," Thaddeus explained, "In the event that we were ever able to revive an Aerodactyl. It's a Mega Stone that, should Aerodactyl hold it while you have a Mega Ring with a Key Stone and you decide to do so, can let Aerodactyl mega evolve. The proper name for this Mega Stone is Aerodactylite." Handing the Aerodactylite over to Dawn, Thaddeus went on, "Given that the only Aerodactyl that I know of is the one that you own, I figure that it's best you take this and look into getting yourself a Mega Ring that has a Key Stone in it. That way, you can potentially get info on what Aerodactyl is like when it mega evolves."

"Wow, Dawn!" Bonnie said as she looked at the Aerodactylite in Dawn's hands, "You can mega evolve your Aerodactyl now! Also, I didn't know Aerodactyl was capable of mega evolution."

"Technically, I can't mega evolve Ieyasu yet," Dawn said, "I don't have a Mega Ring with a Key Stone like what Thaddeus says I need. And the chances of me getting one are pretty slim." Still, it was an amazing gift, one that Dawn hoped she could take advantage of, especially after working on Ieyasu's training. A beast the likes of Mega Aerodactyl would be an absolute terror for Team Scorn to deal with. That being said, such a Pokémon would be a boon to the good people trying to fight off the threat that Team Scorn represented to the rest of the world at large.

With nothing else keeping them, the heroes were able to depart from Ambrette Town. Dawn, Kenny, Ash, and Trip had all gotten some new Pokémon while the group was staying in Ambrette Town, and they still had some traveling to do before reaching Cyllage City, so it would be an excellent opportunity to get some training in, both to get ready for the gym in Cyllage City and to help get their new Pokémon used to everything. They also made one last pit-stop before actually leaving Ambrette Town, to see how Alexa was doing. As the heroes talked with Alexa, her Helioptile came out to say hi when Trip's named Helioptile Mitsu came out as well (Trip was planning to do some training with Mitsu).

The two Helioptiles stood on the ground looking straight at one another, although Mitsu had a small bit of his tongue sticking out in a 'blep' manner. Bonnie was giggling and practically brimming with excitement as she saw the two Helioptiles interact, although it was mostly Alexa's Helioptile trying to get a greeting out of Mitsu. Within short order, Mitsu opened his mouth wide, piquing a bit of worry out of Alexa's Helioptile, before relaxing when it saw that Mitsu was simply yawning. His eyes looked a bit tired, which it probably why he turned to Trip, climbed up his right leg, and climbed over his chest and hung there just long enough for Trip to get the idea and hold his arms around the sleepy Helioptile and carry him.

"...Not as timid as mine," Alexa remarked, "But still similarly as shy." The heroes then waved Alexa good-bye and wished her luck on wherever her reporting job winds up taking her next. As for the heroes themselves, they hit the road to continue on their way to Cyllage City.

...

On the way to Cyllage City, the heroes set up camp to rest their weary feet, as well as get in some training. Dawn was surprised that Ieyasu came knowing Rock Tomb, Crunch, and Iron Head, and figured that a good move to round everything off would be Earthquake. Thus for Ieyasu's training, Dawn was having Germany show Ieyasu the ropes in learning Earthquake. It's part of why Dawn was training her Pokémon away from where Ash, Kenny, and Trip were all working on their Pokémon. Dawn was overseeing the teaching of Earthquake when Kenny came running over to her.

"Yo Dawn my main man," Kenny began, "Lunch is ready."

"And with that we're taking a lunch break, boys," Dawn called out to her Pokémon, telling them that it was time to relax.

...

While the heroes were having lunch, Ash said, "Hey Dawn, can I ask you to help me with some training I wanna do for when I face Grant at the Cyllage City gym?"

Dawn arched a wry eyebrow. "What did you have in mind?"

"Well back when we saw Grant battle Viola at the Battle Chateau," Ash began, "Grant showed a real good strategy involving the use of Rock Tomb. I know that some of your Pokémon know Rock Tomb, so I was wondering if they can use Rock Tomb to help my Pokémon work on my strategy."

Pointing at Ash with a fork, Dawn replied, "Well first off, what Pokémon do you plan to use against Grant?"

"I got it we can use our whole party against Grant when we face him and we can switch out whenever," Kenny pointed out, "While he only has two and can't switch them out until they faint."

Thinking about it, Ash said, "Well I came to Kalos with Pikachu, Charizard, and Steelix, then I got Froakie, and then caught Feltchling and Braviary. Those are the six Pokémon that I got on hand now, and I'm actually prepping all of them with the strategy to deal with Grant's use of Rock Tomb."

"Oh Ash, how is Braviary doing by the way?" Serena asked, a touch of concern in her tone, "I heard he's a bit temperamental."

Turning to look at Serena, Ash said, "Actually, Braviary has settled down now. I guess that he was riled up due to being revived into modern times and was acting out due to confusion and mild fright, also Kenny's Tyrunt egged him on. But once everything was settled and he was reassured that he'll be fine, Braviary relaxed and is now behaving himself, also Kenny please make sure your Tyrunt doesn't bother Braviary."

"Considering he nearly got his butt kicked the first time from what we heard," Kenny said, "I'll keep an eye on him."

Gesturing to Ash, Trip said, "Although it's good you're allowed to use your whole party if need be, I don't think that Feltchling, Charizard, and Braviary aren't good ideas to use in a rock type gym given they're all part flying. Charizard being part fire as well makes him especially vulnerable, so I'd say use them if Pikachu, Froakie, and Steelix all go down first and you don't have another choice."

"You can also rotate some of the Pokémon that you have at Oak's lab into your party to help out," Kenny said.

"Nah, I wanna stick with only what I brought to and what I catch in Kalos," Ash said, "But thanks for the suggesting. As for what Trip said, he's got a point. I got a lot of flying type Pokémon in my party. I need to be careful."

"Grant used an Onix against Viola back at the Battle Chateau, right?" Serena said, "Isn't Steelix the evolved form of Onix? And a steel type?"

Perking up a bit, Ash said, "Hey, yeah! Steelix can help out against Grant!"

Listing off of his fingers, Clemont said, "Froakie is a water type which is strong against the rock Pokémon that Grant will be using, also a dual rock ground type like Onix will be especially vulnerable against against water attacks."

"There's also your Pikachu," Dawn pointed out to Ash, "Who knows Iron Tail and Grass Knot."

Nodding in the affirmative, Ash said, "That settles it! I'll still train all of the Pokémon I have on hand in dealing with Grant's Rock Tomb strategy, but I'll be aiming to use Pikachu, Froakie, and Steelix primarily against Grant when I have my battle with him!" The rest of the heroes let out a cheer, happy that Ash had a solid game plan in mind for when it came to actually battling Grant in Cyllage City. After the heroes finished lunch, it was right back to training, although Dawn had to put tutoring Ieyasu to learn Earthquake on hold in order to help Ash train his Pokémon.

END, CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED AND SIXTY

Author's notes;

This chapter wraps up what ended up being a two-parter due to how much I had come up with. It sees Ash getting an alpha Hisuian Pokémon of his own, followed by Dawn and Kenny getting a new fossil Pokémon each while Dawn additionally gets a Mega Stone that will play some key role later in the story. That Ochaco girl also gets an Amaura, but that's not important right now. Anyway, the heroes then take off on the road to Cyllage City, and while taking a break with the others, Ash works out a soild plan against Grant while also getting Dawn to help him work around Grant's Rock Tomb strategy (it helps Dawn has multiple Pokémon that know the move). The next chapter will see the heroes reach Cyllage City, so keep your eyes peeled for more.
