Chapter One-hundred and sixty-four: Ludicrous Lucario
The heroes, as well as Korrina and her grandpa Gurkinn, got to the Pokémon Center so that Korrina's Lucario could be treated. During a battle to get used to using Mega Evolution, Korrina had Mega Evolved her Lucario against Dawn who had Mega Evolved Leni, her named Lucario. But Korrina's Lucario went crazy and had to be subdued by Leni, who thankfully was in complete control of herself the entire time. As the heroes waited with Korrina and Gurkinn in the Pokémon Center lobby, the photographer McGinty came in.
"Oh yeah, he's an old friend of mine who I had help me secretly run things to see if Korrina could get a Lucarionite," Gurkinn said as McGinty came into the Pokémon Center.
Taking out two arm bands, each fitted with a Lucarionite, McGinty said, "Yeah, I needed to get these ready." At Gurkinn's instruction, McGinty handed one Lucarionite-fitted armband each to Korrina and Dawn, telling the girls to have their respective Lucarios wear them. Dawn called Leni out and put the armband on Leni's left arm. The named Lucario seemed to like the armband, marveling at it like a teen girl would marvel at an accessory she wants.
"What I would like to know," Kenny said, "Is why Korrina's Lucario flew off its rocker while Dawn's Lucario didn't."
"Korrina's Lucario," Gurkinn began, "Probably couldn't control its aura very well. I was also sensing that Korrina's Lucario was overconfident, and Korrina herself still has a few issues with keeping herself confident enough to power through." His arms folded over his chest, Gurkinn said, "Mega Evolution isn't a power that you can just plug in and get working for you perfectly-" Gurkinn paused to snap his fingers "-Like that. Both trainer and Pokémon need to be on the same wavelength as it were, they've got to be as one."
Turning to look at Dawn, Ash said, "Dawn has a pretty solid bond with her Lucario. The two of them have seen a lot of victories together, including the one where Dawn became the Sinnoh Champion." Nodding once, Ash remarked, "Dawn must have her Lucario's full faith and confidence. That must explain why Dawn had no problem in using Mega Evolution."
Korrina looked on with a worried expression, up until Nurse Joy came out. "Korrina's Lucario is perfectly fine now," Nurse Joy said as she handed the pokéball containing Korinna's Lucario over to Korrina.
As Korrina got her Lucario back, Gurkinn said, "We're going to have to do some exercises to get you and Lucario more used to using Mega Evolution. As a Shalour City gym leader, you'll need it." Nodding in agreement, Korrina proceeded to follow her grandpa outside. The heroes all went outside as well, wanting to see where Korrina's efforts would take her.
Outside on a battlefield near the Pokémon Center, Gurkinn got ready to work with Korrina. "Oh, we might as well have Dawn, Kenny, and Trip participate as well," Gurkinn said, "Dawn showed some ability to use Mega Evolution already, but we need to make sure it'll stay smooth. As for Kenny and Trip, they still need to use Mega Evolution for the first time." Turning to look at Kenny and Trip, Gurkinn said, "Do either of you boys own Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution?"
"I heard that Abomasnow is capable of Mega Evolving," Trip said, "Is that true?"
"I similarly heard that Tyranitar can Mega Evolve," Kenny said, "Also, Dawn was given an Aerodactylite at Ambrette Town after she got an Aerodactyl revived from an Old Amber."
Clapping his hands together, Gurkinn said, "Excellent! Yes, all of those Pokémon can Mega Evolve, and we can get special harnesses fitted for them to hold their Mega Stones." Kenny and Trip got out Godzilla and Veda respectively; Dawn had to go and rotate Ieyasu into her party so measurements could be taken for its Mega Stone holding harness. "While McGinty is getting those harnesses made," Gurkinn said, "Your Pokémon will have to hold their Mega Stones on their own. Dawn, it's best you try using Mega Evolution with your Aerodactyl so that you, Kenny, and Trip will all start together from a fresh point."
The three reborn trainers all nodded in the affirmative, then when Gurkinn got Kottina to stand with them, had all four of them use their Key Stones to trigger Mega Evolution on their respective Pokémon. The rest of the heroes looked on in wonder as they witnessed four Mega Evolutions at the same time. After the processes, there were now Korrina's Mega Lucario, Dawn's Mega Aerodactyl, Kenny's Mega Tyranitar, and Trip's Mega Abomasnow right there on the battlefield.
As the Mega Evolved Pokémon stood there, Gurkinn did a quick look at all of them. After passing by all of them, Gurkinn said, "...Hmm, I'm still getting bad vibes from Korrina's Lucario, but Aerodactyl, Tyranitar, and Abomasnow all show no signs of problems in using Mega Evolution. I'm actually surprised that Dawn's Aerodactyl shows no issues, given how recently Dawn supposedly got it." Turning to look at Korrina, Gurkinn said, "There's a thing or two you can learn from Dawn, young lady."
At Gurkinn's instruction, the Mega Evolved Pokémon paired up to spar with one another; Godzilla was to spar with Vida, and Korrina's Lucario was to spar with Ieyasu. Godzilla and Veda had no problems, and Trip even looked to be considring something as he watched his Mega Abomasnow. As for the girls who had Mega Pokémon sparring, while Ieyasu looked to have no issues, Korrina's Lucario slowly became mad again. Dawn was even refraining from having Ieyasu use Earthquake which he knew, sticking with Rock Tomb, Crunch, and Iron Head because she felt Lucario needed to feel better about itself and have an easier time.
But still, there was little Korrina's Mega Lucario was able to do to the named Mega Aerodactyl. After another parry where Iron head deflected Power-Up Punch, Korrina's Lucario got the wild look in its expression again. It gave a skyward, enraged scream, then conjured a Bone Rush energy staff and rushed at Ieyasu, who flew to avoid it and ended up barreling into Godzilla and Veda, knocking them over in the process. Lucario got up and smacked them both in the face once each with the Bone Rush energy staff, eliciting pained cries from them although it was far from sufficient to best either of them.
"Ieyasu!" Dawn called out, "Grab Lucario, then slam it down into the ground while using Earthquake!" Ieyasu cried out before rushing in, using its feet to clutch Lucario by its arms, fly up, then rush down to the ground, slamming Lucario down into the ground while using Earthquake, shaking up the battlefield with powerful seismic waves at groound zero of which was Korrina's Lucario. The brutal assault was enough to knock Korrina's Lucario out and end its Mega Evolved state. The other Pokémon who were Mega Evolved reverted back to normal as well.
Gurkinn, who was putting a pokéball away, walked up to the scene as the heroes and Korrina all gathered. "I was about to send out and Mega Evolve my own Lucario to quell Korrina's, but that saved both time and effort. Thank you, Champion Dawn."
Dawn, as she gently placed her hand on the side of Ieyasu's head to gently rub it, said, "Thank you, sir. But I still can't help but be worried about Korrina and her Lucario. Can anything be done to help them overcome the issues that seem to be preventing them from using Mega Evolution?"
"Dawn's right," Korrina said, "I... I really need to get this issue fixed."
Gurkinn saw that his granddaughter was serious about wanting to better herself, and gave her a firm but approving look as he nodded once. "Then you must train anew. Go to Pomace Mountain, where a trainer who can use Mega Evolution resides. She shall help instruct you so that you can master the power of Mega Evolution." To the reborn trainers, Gurkinn said, "You three, although you're able to use Mega Evolution more readily than Korrina, are still fresh at it, so you ought to get some instruction as well. Dawn, you will need to bring both your Lucario and your Aerodactyl as they have Mega Stones."
The reborn trainers all nodded in agreement, and together with Korrina made preparations to go to Pomace Mountain. The rest of the heroes all volunteered to go along as well, to which the reborn trainers agreed and Korrina nodded along with. Together, the group soon headed off for Pomace Mountain, where the reborn trainers and Korrina expected to learn about Mega Evolution.
While on the road to Pomace Mountain, the heroes and Korrina had to take a break for lunch. As lunch was being prepped, Ash and Korrina had a sparring match battle with Pikachu and Lucario. As the sparring continued, Lucario used Power-Up Punch without Korrina actually issuing a command. "Hey, Lucario!" Korrina said, "Why did you use Power-Up Punch when I said-"
"Nothing," Ash pointed out, interrupting Korrina and making her realize what happened.
When Korrina stood there, surprised with herself, Bonnie suddenly called out, "Lunch is ready! Kenny made his super-yummy curry again!"
...
The heroes and Korrina soon were all eating lunch. During the eating, Serena offered some of her homemade Poké Puffs to Korrina's Lucario, who looked a bit confused. "They're sweets, Lucario," Serena said, "And the Pokémon that my friends and I have really li-" Serena was cut off when the Poké Puff she was offering to Lucario was snatched away by a green blur; looking up, both Lucario and Serena saw Cell, Kenny's shiny Scizor, who popped the Poké Puff into his mouth. "...Yeah, I have more, but if you don't get going then Kenny's Scizor will eat as many as possible," Serena said, a hint of amusement in her tone.
Lucario's hesitation came from not knowing what it was Serena was holind out ot it. Now knowing that Poké Puffs were a kind of food, Lucario got one and ate it. To its surprise, Lucario really liked the Poké Puff. "So anyway, Korrina," Ash said, "What sort of training have you and Lucario done?"
"Well, we've had sparring sessions with my grandpa and his Lucario on several occasions," Korrina said, "As well as this one time we fought a trainer and his Mega Ampharos."
"Ampharos can Mega Evolve?" Kenny asked. Turning to look at Dawn, Kenny asked, "Hey Dawn, doesn't that Admin Brother guy in Team Scorn own an Ampharos? What if he somehow becomes able to Mega Evolve it?"
"Then fighting the Katana Sector of Team Scorn will be loads more of a challenge," Dawn said grimly, "Let's pray that no on in Team Scorn gets a hold of the ability to use Mega Evolution."
Scoffing, Bonnie said, "Frankly, I can't even see how a villain like a Team Scorn member can use Mega Evolution. From what I see, only good guys can-"
"Mega Evolution doesn't necessarily require one to be a 'good guy'," Korrina said, cutting Bonnie off, "It requires there to be a strong bond between the trainer and their Pokémon that they're using. So in theory, even a member of Team Scorn could make use of Mega Evolution if they have a Pokémon whose species is capable of it, and there is a strong bond between the Team Scorn member and their Pokémon in question." Looking downcast, Korrina went on, "So if that Brother guy has a Mega Ring with a Key Stone in it, and he gets an Ampharosite for his Ampharos to hold, then he could potentially Mega Evolve his Ampharos into Mega Ampharos."
Gently shaking his head, Trip said, "Then let's pray that no one in Team Scorn period is able to use Mega Evolution. It's bad enough they managed to get a hold of a big name legendary Pokémon. We don't want Mega Evolution also falling into their hands." The others agreed and, wanting to lighten the mood, they all resumed eating.
After they were done eating, the heroes and Korrina resumed traveling. They soon came to a cave which Serena, with her map when Kenny asked how she new, was a shortcut to Pomace Mountain. Entering the cave, they head inward and kept going until they came across a fork in the road. Korrina, acting out of instinct, chose a path for the group to take.
Korrina's instincts proved to be solid, as she led the group up to Pomace Mountain. There, they found a tree that had a treehouse in it. The door on the treehouse opened, and a Mawile stepped out. The heroes noticed that Mawile had a Mega Stone fixed to an accessory that it wore. "Ah, Gurkinn's granddaughter," the voice of an elderly female called out. That call made the heroes and Korrina turn to see an old lady come walking over.
"Are you the trainer my grandpa says can use Mega Evolution?" Korrina asked.
The old lady nodded once in the affirmative. "Yes. My name is Mabel. Now, let's cut to the chase. I already got the idea from Gurkinn. I want you and Lucario to show me what you got in a battle."
Korrina nodded in understanding, and soon a battle between her and Mabel took place. Korrina Mega Evolved her Lucario while Mabel Mega Evolved her Mawile. However, Mawile dodged all of Lucario's attacks while landing an Iron Head and, when Lucario went berserk again, Mawile knocked it out by using Fairy Wind. After her Lucario reverted back to normal, Korrina sighed in a troubled tone, knowing they had more reason than ever before to get to training. However, the first thing that Mabel called for in the training caught Korrina by surprise.
"Flower arranging."
"Que?"
...
As it turned out, Mabel wanted the heroes and Korrina to do flower arranging. Korrina thought that they'd get to battle training, but Mabel reminded her to not be so hasty. As everyone was setting up to get ready to make flower arrangements, Clemont pulled out another one of his inventions. "Oh for crying out loud," Kenny said, "I hope this one isn't a fancy alarm clock that will use Explosion on us!"
"This is the Flower Arranger One," Clemont said as he patted the side of his invention, "And it shall arrange the flowers in the most-"
*KABOOM*
The invention ended up blowing up, creating a dust cloud and, when it settled, showed that Clemont was not only covered in soot, his hair had been blown into an afro. Pointing at Clemont, Dawn dryly scowled, "You ever afro my hair like that, I'll never forgive you."
And so, the flower arranging commenced. Dawn, working with Leni and Ieyasu, created a lovely arrangement while being perfectly in sync; the arrangement resembled a whilring Aura Sphere in movement. Trip, with his Abomasnow Vida, made a rather surprising arrangement that resembled a freshly baked muffin. Kenny and Godzilla somehow made an arrangement that looked remarkably like Perfect Cell wearing a pair of MLG shades. The arrangements of the three reborn trainers, as well as what Ash and his Pikachu made, earned great praise from Mabel.
When it came to Korrina and Lucario, however, they made two separate arrangements. "You have similar personalities and a deep understanding of one another," Mabel said, "But you still need to become aligned as one. We'll make another arrangement tomorrow."
And so that was how the days passed in the 'training' under Mabel; day after day, flower arrangement after flower arrangement; Clemont managed to fix his Flower arranger One, but Godzilla as if sensing something went over, picked up Clemont's repaired invention, and chucked it into the air as far as he could throw it, resulting in the machine exploding harmlessly in the air where the explosion couldn't afro'd anyone's hair. Kenny gave his named Tyranitar full props for the good call that he had made, and Mabel even remarked how it was a sign that proved Kenny and Godzilla had the strong bond needed for Mega Evolution.
At one point, when out gathering flowers, Korrina and Lucario saw some nice white ones up on a cliff. Korrina and Lucario went to get them, but Lucario almost slipped and fell. Korrina, knowing how the foothing there clould be dicey, had Lucario proceed to her in a specific manner to make sure that there were no more accidents. They were able to get those flowers for the flower arranging. Korrina still wanted to know why there hasn't been any battle training yet, and to her surprise she more or less got Mabel's reasoning later that night.

"Lucario should be able to control its aura while Mega Evolved soon enough."
"Huh?"
Korrina was confused by what Mabel was talking about. "You and Lucario have a close bond," Mabel said, "But while the two of you are close, you still have differing viewpoints. That's why Lucario uses moves on its own. Until you and Lucario can function on the same viewpoint, then-"
*CRASH*
"OH SNAP, IT'S TEAM SCORN!"
Korrina and Mabel both perked up when they heard Kenny's voice shout that Team Scorn had just shown up. "Come, we'll drive those villains from Pomace Mountain," Mabel said, leading Korrina back over to where the chaos was going on.
Upon reaching the scene, Korrina and Mabel saw that the heroes were all occupied fighting Team Scorn members. To Mabel's concern, her Mawile was trapped in a cage that she clearly couldn't break out of, and a uniquely dressed Team Scorn member with a single pauldron on one of his shoulders was standing guard at it. "Korrina! Mabel! That guy guarding the cage holding Mabel's Mawile is Captain Jun!" Dawn called out, "He led the prior attack on Ambrette Town!"
Korrina scowled bitterly. "Figures that Team Scorn would try going after Mega Evolution eventually."
Mabel gave a bemused hmph. "These villains really have no idea what they're messing with." Mabel then got her can out, in which she kept her Key Stone which could be seen. "I just have to Mega Evolve Mawile, and she'll be more than strong enough to-"
"Hold it!" Mabel was cut off when she and Korrina were rushed by a female Team Scorn member dressed in the standard uniform for female rank and file; the one stand out thing about this female Team Scorn grunt was the fact she was pale skinned and had very long dark hair in a straight hime-style cut. The long-haired grunt, spinning on her left heel, slammed her right heel against Mabel, knocking her back and taking her cane similtaniously. The long-haired grunt then jumped back a few times before she landed right next to Captain Jun.
Looking at where the Key Stone was embedded in the cane, the long-haired Team Scorn grunt said, "The old lady kept her Key Stone in this cane, Captain Jun."
Jun saw the Key Stone gleam in light provided by the stars above. "And we got both a Mega Stone and a Pokémon capable of using it. This ought to make Admin Hero happy with our success here. Good job, Han."
"You two won't get away with this!" Korrina yelled, immediately Mega Evolving her Lucario to combat the efforts of Team Scorn. Jun and the now identified Han send out a Scyther and a Nuzleaf respectively.
"Scyther, use Slash!" Jun called out.
"Nuzleaf, use Fake Out!" Han ordered.
"Lucario, use Power-Up Punch on Nuzleaf!" Korrina called out.
Nuzleaf was the quickest due to using a fast priority move, and it made Lucario flinch, allowing Scyther a free pass at hitting Lucario with Slash, although neither hit did too much due to Lucario's resistance to normal attacks due to being part steel. However, the dual assault did make Lucario snap again, and the dangerous look in his eyes had returned. "Whoa ho ho, that's an interesting look," Jun said, an even mix of apprehensive and amused although the latter of those two feelings was the leading feeling in this case, "Methinks this enraged persona may have a better edge in combat!"
Lucario was about to attack, but Korrina rushed in to stop it. Lucario bit down onto Korrina's arm she raised. "Remember who you are, Lucario!" Korrina called out, "Don't let Team Scorn try to mess with you! You're better than that!" The enraged Mega Lucario stopped short, starred onwards, and soon settled down. Korrina, seeing this, was elated to see Lucario had gained back control of itself. Turning to face Team Scorn, Korrina said, "Alright, Lucario! Let's show Team Scorn here what it means to mess with people who can use Mega Evolution!"
Korrina's Lucario gave a cry and, although not having lost itself, conjured and cast an Aura Sphere attack at Han's Nuzleaf, striking it and knocking it out. "Your Lucario has learned Aura Sphere!" Mabel called out, "That's a sure sign it can control its aura while Mega Evolved now! You've done it, Korrina!"
Giving a single nod, Korrina said, "Alright Lucario, let's do this!" Gesturing forward, Korrina called out, "Lucario, use Aura Sphere!" Lucario conjured and cast another Aura Sphere, hitting Jun's Scyther with it and, despite Scyther's great resistance to fighting attacks, it took a rather heavy blow from that Mega Evolution-empowered Aura Sphere. Only that aforementioned great resistance to fighting attacks is why Scyther wasn't immediately knocked out. "Hit 'im with Power-Up Punch!" Korrina called out, sending her Lucario to rush in and hit Jun's Scyther with Power-Up Punch.
"Scyther, use X-Scissor!" Jun called out, sending Scyther in to strike Lucario with X-Scissor. But Lucario, now that it had a permanent firm hold over itself while Mega evolved, would not be bested by a Scyther. With a single Power-Up Punch to Scyther's gut, Lucario defeated it in battle, forcing Jun to recall it and send out his second Scyther. But that song and dance had already been completed once, and when Korrina and her Lucario completed it a second time, the result was the same as what the two of the accomplished the first time, their hearts, minds, viewpoints as one.
With Jun being defeated, Korrina and Lucario let out a cheer. "Alright, we won!" Korrina cheered.
Shrugging, Jun said, "Then let me ask you this. Where's Mawile with its Mega Stone? Where's the cane with the Key Stone in it?" Suddenly realizing what was going on, Korrina looked around and saw that Mabel's Mawile, as well as Mabel's cane in which Mabel kept her Key Stone, were nowhere to be seen. Giving Korrina an amused smirk when he saw that things were sinking in, Jun said, "Yeah, I figured as much that my men and I wouldn't fare very well, given we were going up against folks we got it could use Mega Evolution. So once we got the goods, we had to play the diversion game so said goods can be spirited away."
"You fiends!" Korrina yelled, "How dare you steal Mabel's Mawile and Key Stone!"
Jun arched a wry eyebrow at Korrina. "Did you really just say 'you fiends' at us? Jeez, how cliche can you be?" At that point, the fighting had wound down, and Jun who very clearly saw that Team Scorn there was losing ordered for a retreat, using smoke grenades to mask the departure of him and his men. Jun and all of his men were able to successfully get away and, although defeated in battle, they successfully stole Mabel's Mawile who still held its Mega Stone, as well as Mabel's Key Stone. Korrina wasn't able to pep herself up with finally having gotten a firm hold on Mega Evolution.
Not when Team Scorn had scored such a prize.
The following morning, the heroes and Korrina were preparing to leave Pomace Mountain. "I've already informed the authorities of what happened," Mabel said, "And they will look into it. But it may take a while."
"I am so sorry Team Scorn got away with your Mawile and Key Stone," Korrina said, looking and sounding guilty.
Mabel held up a hand to cut off further argument. "Team Scorn are as crafty as they are vile. I cannot hold what happened against you or the others. I also think that Team Scorn will be in for a surprise if they try to Mega Evolve my Mawile as they lack a bond with her, although they may take the Mawilite from her and have another Mawile who does have a bond with them and Mega Evolve that one."
Shrugging, Kenny said, "They may even sell what they stole on the black market, separately if not as a set."
Mabel nodded in agreement, and with little else remaining the heroes and Korrina took off. Korrina was planning to head straight to Shalour City, although the heroes had to take a different route so as to get in more training. The need was especially great now, as Team Scorn now potentially had access to being able to use the power of Mega Evolution, so the heroes had to be more ready than ever. They hoped to gain the power they'll need through training if they were to stop Team Scorn from doing any more damage to Kalos at large.
The fight seemed to go ever onward.
END, CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED AND SIXTY-FOUR
Author's notes;
This chapter sees Korrina train to master using the power of Mega Evolution, as well as see Kenny an Trip get access to that power. While training at Pomace Mountain, Korrina after much flower arranging is finally able to become one with her Lucario, allowing it to gain permanent full control of itself while Mega Evolved, also it learns how to use Aura Sphere. But the Team Scorn attack resulted in the theft of Mabel's Mawile, the Mawilite, and Mabel's cane that had her Key Stone in it. A blanket of grim gloom is cast as the heroes and Korrina leave the following day, Korrina to go straight to Shalour City, and the heroes to continue their journey.
The next chapter will pick things up, seeing Ash get some new additions to his roster, as well as begin the shenanigans with the friends from the XY games. There's even something in mind for Tierno in the story, although Shauna and Trevor will still have prominence. Oh, the mirror cave shenanigans will be skipped entirely.
