The following morning Carla woke up to an empty bed. She'd wondered if Peter had done a runner and regretted what they did. She pulled herself out of bed and threw on some black silky pyjamas followed by her silky dressing gown before heading out into the kitchen.
To her surprise, Peter was in the kitchen making himself and Carla a hot cup of coffee. "I thought you'd bolted." Carla said softly.
"I thought you could do with one of these." Peter said as he handed her the mug, knowing she could potentially be a bit hungover after last night. Carla hummed and sipped the drink before placing it down on the counter.
"We should… Uh… Probably talk about last night." Carla said not daring to make eye contact with him.
"About the fact you got caught driving under the influence?" Peter said avoiding what Carla actually meant. Carla tutted.
"I was thinking more about the fact we slept together." Carla said. Peter looked at her, he could she was still rather vulnerable.
"Carla." He paused. "I don't regret a single moment of it." A smile crept on her face.
"Me either." She responded to which he pulled her in for a kiss on her lips. After a few moments they pulled apart. "So what now?" She asked biting her lip gently. "You're engaged to Leanne." Peter sighed.
"I'm falling for you Carla, I can't deny that… Leanne… That's complicated." Peter said. Carla nodded slowly.
"Okay… Why don't we just take things slow… See what each day brings… Just keep it to ourselves… There's no rush." Carla said. Whatever she did, the last thing she wanted right now was to push him away when she'd finally got him.
"Sounds good to me." He said kissing her once more.
Deep down they knew that this was more than likely going to end in some sort of disaster. They also knew it was completely wrong, considering Peter was supposed to be getting married to Leanne. This wasn't the first time Peter had been with two women at the same time.
When Peter eventually left Carla's later that morning and returned home he was met with a very worried Leanne. All he'd told her last night was that he was helping a friend from his group before switching his phone off because he knew she would call him. "You've been gone all night." Leanne said as she'd clearly been crying.
"I know, it's just he was in such a bad way that I couldn't leave him on his own." Peter said, the lie practically rolled off his tongue.
"I barely slept with worry." Leanne said as she tried to calm down.
"I know and i'm sorry." Peter said pulled her close. Peter knew he was in trouble. "So… Uh, where's Si?" He asked trying to change the subject.
"With your Dad… I didn't tell them that you didn't come home last night." Leanne said and Peter nodded.
"I am sorry, Lea." Peter said. She gave him a small smile.
"You're home now and sober… It'll be okay." She said as she was just relieved that he was alright more than anything.
Carla got herself into work early in the afternoon. Whenever Carla wasn't there to open up, that job was left to Hayley. She made some excuse that she had a meeting with a potential new client this morning which was a complete and utter lie.
The afternoon seemed to drag on for Carla. She couldn't stop thinking about Peter. She felt extremely guilty for what she was doing to Leanne but she couldn't help that in her heart she knew she wanted Peter and by the way last night and this morning went he felt the same.
Carla was rather abruptly disturbed from her thoughts when Hayley knocked on her door saying Michelle was here. Michelle was clearly annoyed with something. "Are you alright?" Carla asked as Michelle flopped herself down i. the chair opposite Carla's desk.
"No, I am sick to death of being a lousy barmaid… Between Steve and his mother and every annoying customer… I always thought I'd do better for myself." Michelle sighed. Carla looked at her sympathetically.
"I'm sure there's plenty of other jobs about." Carla said trying to reassure Michelle.
"Well… I was actually thinking… Maybe you had something here for me." Michelle asked with a hoping smile. Carla raised her eyebrows. In fact she had the perfect job for Michelle.
"Can you sew a straight seam?" Carla asked. Michelle frowned.
"No but I'm a quick learner." Michelle said eagerly. Carla hummed.
"Can you clean toilets?" Carla questioned. The truth was Carla was actually looking for an assistant in her office and knew Michelle would bite her hand off for it but she still wanted to wind her first.
"I was thinking maybe you need a PA, or someone to keep an eye on those lot out there." Michelle said.
"Well, maybe you're in luck… I do need an office assistant and if you think you can keep on top of the paperwork and keep those in check out there… The job is all yours." Carla said with a smile.
"Carla, you're the best!" Michelle squealed as she went over and gave Carla a hug before hurrying out to quit her job at the Rovers.
After Leanne had calmed down about Peter not coming home last night, they both made their way over to Ken and Deirdre's to collect Simon. "Are you staying for tea?" Deirdre asked as Leanne and Peter entered the back room to see Simon who was sitting at the table. "I've got plenty to go around." She insisted.
"Uh, yeah sure, why not." Peter said. Leanne had sat down next to Simon and began asking him all about his sleepover at Ken and Deirdre's. It was clear to everyone in the room, how much Leanne and Simon adored one another.
A short while later, the food was cooked and the five of them were sitting at the table eating some rather over cooked chicken and vegetables. Ken insisted that the chicken was fine but Deirdre was disappointed. "Honestly it's lovely." Leanne said taking a bite of the burnt chicken.
Ken then decided to change the topic of conversation. "So how's the wedding planning going?" He asked to which Leanne beamed at but Peter felt a heavy weight of guilt lie in his stomach.
"Yeah, it's going great." Leanne smiled. "We're just planning the stag and hen do… I'm going to have my hen party in the Rovers and Peter will have the stag in the Joinery." She explained earning a nod off both Ken and Deirdre.
Simon looked up at Leanne. "When you get married will you be my mum for real?" He asked. Leanne wasn't actually sure what to say so looked at Peter.
"You don't have to be married for her to be your mum." Deirdre said. "Isn't that right, Peter?"
"Yeah, of course." Peter nodded. Peter was well and truly stuck. How could he ever leave Leanne when Simon looked up to her like a mother, it would've been cruel.
Peter was rather quiet for the remained of the meal. It was then when he decided that they should probably go home. "Thanks for the food it was… Lovely." Leanne said with a smile.
When they got back into the flat, Peter had received a text from Carla asking him to meet her in the factory. Maybe now would be a good time to tell her that they shouldn't see eachother and they he can't hurt Leanne or Simon. "I'm just going to pop to a meeting." Peter said as he grabbed his jacket from the back of the chair.
"Oh okay… Do you know how long you'll be?" Leanne asked.
"I don't, it really depends." Peter replied vaguely. Leanne nodded before hurried off out of the flat.
Before he entered the factory he looked around to make sure nobody else was there. The work day was over for the machinists and it was just Carla left in her office. When he opened the door to her office, she greeted him with a kiss on the lips. "I've missed you." She hummed against his lips as she peeled off his jacket. Peter felt completely powerless under Carla's touch.
Peter soon began unbuttoning Carla's blouse and any thought of Leanne and Simon had left his mind, his only focus was Carla. She was everything he could ever want and need and there was no way he was about to give up on her.
