Chapter One-hundred and eighty-nine: Master Rank Mania (part three)

In the distance from the Gloire city Showcase hall, Boss's Assistant Ayane stood with a few other Team Scorn members including First Captain Xander, Xander's Captain's Assistant Rina, and Admin Hero's Admin's Assistant Asami. They were watching at Ayane's Reshiram was conjuring and casting Fusion Flares right at the Showcase hall as Team Scorn as a whole began its attack on Gloire City. Admin Hero, as well as his 'special agent' that he was able to get and a good few grunts, had gone on ahead to the vacation home in Gloire City that Grand Duchess Sabine keeps.

Ayane, as she had Reshiram cast another Fusion Flare at the Gloire City Showcase hall, had a pretty good idea what it was Admin Hero was aiming to do, that being settling a few problems that he had with Sabine's oldest daughter, Sarah. Ayane didn't know too many specific details as she didn't ask, but she did know that Sarah had done something to ruin the life Hero was living before he joined Team Scorn, and also that Sarah had stolen a Pokémon from him. The attack on Gloire City was ordered by the Boss himself, but there was nothing stopping Hero from also settling old scores along the way. Knowing the Boss, Ayane suspected that he'd actually approve of Hero trying to knock out two flying types with one rock type.

As Ayane and the others continued watching Reshiram's assault on the Gloire City Showcase hall, she thought about how she, in her Ochaco persona, had been eliminated from the Master Class Showcase, even after coming so far. Ayane later learned, thanks to some spywork that Team Scorn had going on, that part of her being eliminated was due to bias against her from the judges; Ayane and one other girl had scored ties against that Serena girl in audience voting, and the judges were able to use that as an excuse to eliminate Ayane and the other girl.

And as it turned out, it was because Ayane and the other girl were using shiny Pokémon, something that the judges apparently didn't like. Or at least that one judge, that Palermo lady. Ayane was really incensed at Palermo, having her eliminated solely because she was using shinies. So what? The audiences at the Showcases Ayane took part in loved it! It even helped her win the three Princess Keys she needed to qualify for the Master Class Showcase, and relatively easily at that! So what's the big deal with using Pokémon that have incredibly rare colorations for their species?

Ayane's being incensed at Palermo was such that she was actually considering asking the Boss if it was okay to order a hit out on Palermo, whose unfair bias against her kept her from seeing if she really could reach the top of the Showcase scene in Kalos. The only reason why Ayane wasn't considering making that her first option was due to Second Captain Erik saying he had a plan to get revenge. Ayane was wanting to hear what Erik had cooked up, if only due to the fact that her interest had been piqued by whatever it was that the Second Captain of Team Scorn's Shield Sector had cooked up.

Speaking of cooking up, Ayane was betting the Gloire City Showcase hall was getting cooked up, what with all of the Fusion Flares that she was having Reshiram cast at it during Team Scorn's siege on Gloire City. After firing enough Fusion Flares, Reshiram let out a bit of a cough as it shuddered. Ayane took this as a sign that Reshiram had run out of steam for using Fusion Flare. "Does anyone have an Ether or any medicine from that line to use on Reshiram?" Ayane asked. Xander said that he did, so Ayane directed him to use it on Reshiram to restore its PP for using Fusion Flare.

After the Vast White Pokémon was treated, Ayane smirked in amusement. "Alright, Reshiram, let's get cracking on the second volley. Use-"

"-Spacial Rend on Reshiram!"

Ayane was cut off by someone calling out, then Reshiram was struck with a powerful Spacial Rend attack that sent it reeling. Despite how it was super effective, it wasn't enough to down a mighty legendary Pokémon like Reshiram. Ayane looked around, and to her surprise she saw Dawn Berlitz riding in on Palkia, with Ash Ketchum riding in on a Charizard next to Dawn and Palkia. The other girl from the Master Class Showcase who had been spamming shinies like Ayane herself was with Dawn on the back of Palkia. Right as Reshiram recovered, the heroes landed and got off of their Pokémon.

"What in blazes do you think you're doing, Ayane?!" Dawn practically screamed, "How is this anything like the girl you were back in Blackthorn City? How is this anything like the girl that Ideku had been crushing on?"

"Obviously you've never had your life ruined beyond any hope of salvage or repair," Ayane scowled bitterly as the rest of Team Scorn with her got ready to fight. Turning to look at Xander, Ayane said, "Captain Xander, take the little ones and fall back. I don't want them getting caught up in this mess. The rest of the men here and I will buy you as much time as we can."

Xander nodded once in acknowledgement to the right hand woman of the Boss of Team Scorn. "Got it." Xander, as he led Rina and Asami out of there, was actually glad that he was given the order to get the girls out of there, as he himself didn't want to see harm come to either of them. Rina especially so, as Xander's Captain's Assistant was basically his beloved young daughter to him. After Xander, Rina, and Asami were gone, Ayane turned back to look at the heroes as she was backed by the remaining Team Scorn members there.

"Sorry about the delay heroes," Ayane said, "But we of Team Scorn find it in bad taste to let our little ones get involved in heavy conflicts if we're able to help it."

May looked right at Ayane, a look of serious consideration on her face. "Actually, we can't blame you for that. Ash, Dawn, and I left my younger brother with our friend Clemont so he can protect him as well as Clemont's own little sister."

"So we're in agreement on that one point," Ayane began, "But I'm certain that our agreements end there. You all mean to oppose me and the men with me." Ayane jerked a thumb at her Reshiram, who had been revitalized from the hit it took from Tsukune while the heroes were occupied with Ayane's monologuing (a grunt used a Max Potion on Reshiram). "Reshiram and Palkia are evenly matched," Ayane said, "But there's more on my side than on yours. We can simply have all efforts focused on Palkia, then when it goes down nothing you have can stand up to Reshiram."

Dawn, with a serious look on her face, tossed up an Ultra Ball while saying, "Alright, Tobias! Let's get going!"

"Charizard, return!" Ash said as he called his Charizard back. Tossing up two poké balls, Ash called out, "Go, Zapdos and Moltres!"

Ayane and the grunts with her were beyond shocked; Dawn had just called out the mythical Pokémon Darkrai (named Tobias, which didn't surprise Ayane as Team Scorn was aware Dawn had a penchant for nicknaming all of her Pokémon), and Ash called out two legendary Pokémon, Zapdos and Moltres. "Team Scorn's information said that it was Dawn's companion Serena who owned Zapdos and Moltres," Ayane said, "And where did Darkrai come from?!"

"Zapdos and Moltres are actually mine," Ash explained, his gaze narrowing out of suspicion, "I let Serena borrow them so she could use them in that special Showcase to win the last Princess Key she needed to qualify for the Master Class Showcase."

"And I caught Tobias here sometime prior to the arrival of me and my friends here in Gloire City," Dawn added. Hearing Ayane say that Team Scorn's info painted Serena as the owner of Zapdos and Moltres told Dawn that Team Scorn was not only keeping tabs on trainers who owned certain Pokémon, but also what said certain Pokémon are. Dawn bet that Team Scorn would be updating their dossiers to move Zapdos and Moltres onto the list of Pokémon they know Ash owns, as well as add Darkrai to the list of Pokémon they know Dawn herself to own.

Ayane scowled bitterly; despite how Palkia and Reshiram were evenly matched, Palkia was being backed by Darkrai, Zapdos, and Moltres. Although they are lesser lore Pokémon than the two mighty dragons who were present, they were STILL Pokémon commonly thought to exist only in lore. Ayane knew that to battle the heroes here would be a lost cause, but she knew that she and the men with her had to fight anyway, if only because getting away at the moment wasn't exactly an option for them as the heroes were bound to not want to let them get away.

Gritting her teeth, Ayane prepared for battle.

Over at the Showcase hall, members of Team Scorn had flooded in and were attacking all over. The rest of the heroes' group all fought fiercely, with Clemont making good use of all of the Pokémon that he had gotten along the way. In a move both brave and adorable, Bonnie and Max tag teamed to fight off some of the Team Scorn grunts, Bonnie using Dedenne and Max using his shiny Mightyena. Bonnie had almost proclaimed to Team Scorn that she and Max were a battle couple of sorts, but she held her tongue as she hadn't confessed her feelings to Max yet.

Most impressive was Trip, who was fierce in protecting his and Dawn's mom Johanna. Having lost his birth mom to Team Scorn's evil, Trip did not want to risk losing his adoptive mom. As such, his immediate response to the first Team Scorn grunt who he saw act unfriendly towards Johanna was to call out Deelia to challenge said grunt with. After Deelia had wiped out all of that grunt's Pokémon, Trip was certain by seeing the look on that grunt's face that he had gotten the idea and fell back. The other grunts, seeing Trip's reaction to Johanna being threatened, wisely decided to refrain from harassing those not actively fighting.

Back to Bonnie and Max, after they had taken out another pair of Team Scorn grunts, Max asked Bonnie after looking around, "Hey, did you know where Kenny ran off to? I don't see him anywhere in here!"

"He saw Grand Duchess Sabine and her daughters and some of their servants get chased off by Team Scorn," Bonnie explained, "Kenny decided to go after them to try and save the nobles."

"How many Team Scorn members did Kenny run after?" Max asked.

"I think that I counted nine," Bonnie replied, "As there was one each to Sabine, her two daughters, and their six servants."

Max had a concerned scowl on his face. "...I know Kenny's strong, but to chase after nine members of Team Scorn, and alone?"

Bonnie shrugged. "Maybe the nobles and some of their servants have Pokémon and can help with fighting back."

"One can only hope that there'll be enough to give Kenny some breathing room to help him defeat all of those Team Scorn members," Max said, "Because if anything bad happens to Sabine and or her daughters, then it will not be good news for Kalos. Sabine IS the head of Kalos's highest ranking noble family, after all." Bonnie gave an agreeing nod to Max as they were challenged by another pair of Team Scorn grunts. The two younger ones had to hope that Kenny would be able to pull through here and help save the nobles.

...

Over at Grand Duchess Sabine's summer home in Gloire City, Sabine, her daughters Sarah and Maaya, and their six servants all ran in as they were chased by the Team Scorn grunts hot on their trail. Sabine, as she and the rest of her group ran, thought it odd that their running to the mansion sized summer home was in no way messed with by Team Scorn. As a matter of fact, Sabine as she caught her breath thought for a moment that it seemed as if Team Scorn had been intentionally trying to funnel her and the rest of her group here for one reason or another.

The grand duchess got her explanation when she and the rest of her party saw that there were already other Team Scorn grunts waiting for them in the summer home's expansive foyer. There were even uniquely dressed Team Scorn members looking down at Sabine's group from the stairs off to the side. Sabine was able to identify them as Erik and Jun, Captains of Team Scorn who served under Kaito. Each Captain was accompanied by a female Captain's Assistant with hairstyles that set both of them apart from other female grunts.

"Girls, you keep the Grand Duchess here with the others," Erik said, "Jun and I need to grab her daughters to bring them to the... special meeting."

"You leave my daughters alone, you villains!" Sabine shouted, but all of her yelling and pleading would fall on deaf ears. Jun and Erik ran in, grabbed Maaya and Sarah respectively. Maaya was clearly too scared to offer any manner of resistance as she did not do anything as Jun dragged her off; Erik was struggling quite a bit with Sarah, and had to resort to taking a knife out and pressing the sharp edge against her throat, giving her the idea to settle down which she did out of fright. As such, all of that is how Sabine saw her daughters get dragged away by Team Scorn.

...Or maybe they would be saved yet, as Giratina in its Origin Forme burst through the front door, taking it and some of the surrounding wall out in the process, while Kenny rode on the legendary Pokémon's back. "Sorry about the property damage!" Kenny said, "I can't afford to foot the bill! But I figured you'd overlook it since I came here to bail you out of trouble!"

"Save my daughters, and I'll pay you an amount equal to the price I have to pay to fix the damage you just caused!" Sabine replied as she pointed out to Kenny where Maaya and Sabine were being dragged away by Erik and Jun.

Kenny immediately steered Black in the direction he saw the two Captains go off in, but he was cut off when a Bisharp leapt in and kicked Black in the stomach in a vain attempt to push it back. Black and Kenny did stop, but it was more due to the surprise of that Bisharp leaping in from out of nowhere than the Bisharp's efforts to slow the legendary Pokémon Giratina down. Getting off of Black's back, Kenny stood next to his dragon as he saw a heavily disguised Team Scorn member come out. He was dressed the same as a Team Scorn grunt, but wore sunglasses to cover his eyes. His gaiter mask, which was worn up to cover the lower half of his face, seemed a little thicker around the neck, as if he wore something under the gaiter mask.

Pointing at Kenny, the mysterious grunt said in a deep, hardy, and somewhat mildly gravely voice, "You'll have to go through me if you want to continue to go after the Third and Second Captains."

"...I'm getting vibes from you that you aren't a run of the mill grunt," Kenny said, "But you clearly ain't an Officer's Assistant. So what are you? You a sellsword? A sailor from Stros M'Kai?"

The mysterious grunt reaffirmed his stance. "...What I am is of no concern to you. All you need to know about me is the fact that I'll be serving as an opponent for you."

Kenny looked to the Bisharp that the mysterious grunt had out. Although as a partial dark type it had a type advantage against Black, the sheer difference in power between the two Pokémon meant that Black would find it easy to take the Bisharp out. Looking to the mysterious grunt, Kenny was getting vibes from him that he knew full well he stood no chance against Kenny, but was acting anyway as keeping Kenny's time occupied seemed to be the goal here, given that Jun and Erik were still in the process of taking Sabine's daughters away up into the second floor of the mansion sized summer home.

Kenny cracked his neck a bit, figuring that he knew he had to take this mysterious grunt out first if he wanted a chance to catch up to Jun and Erik before they could carry out whatever plan it was that they had with Maaya and Sarah. The two Captains had disappeared into the second floor with their hostages while their respective Captain's Assistants came down to go occupy Sabine's time while the other grunts around there dealt with the servants. That left Kenny, and Kenny alone, to deal with the mysterious grunt before him as their battle began.

...Kenny also couldn't help but feel as if he might somehow be familiar with the mysterious grunt. But he banished that thought from his head before the battle began.

Back where Ayane and her group were battling Dawn, Ash, and May, Reshiram had gone down from a combined assault from Tsukune, Tobias, Zapdos, and Moltres. Tsukune took some hits, but it was still in good fighting condition after Reshiram had been defeated. Not wanting to take any risks however, Dawn recalled Tsukune and kept Tobias out to back up the Pokémon Ash and May were using. Ash recalled Zapdos and Moltres and got Pikachu out there, and May sent out her Blaziken to help fight off what other Pokémon that Ayane and the grunts with her would send out.

Given that Reshiram had gone down before any of the legendaries the heroes had did, Ayane knew that she and the men with her were doomed to be wiped out. All that she figured that she and the men with her could do was buy time for Admin Hero to carry out his personal business before Team Scorn had to pull out of Gloire City. Ayane sent out her Aurorus, which had evolved from her Amarua that she in her Ochaco alias had been able to get. Gesturing forward, Ayane called out, "Aurorus, use Ice Beam on Pikachu!"

"Pikachu, use Iron Tail on Aurorus!" Ash called out.

Aurorus took aim and fired its Ice Beam attack at Pikachu, who dodged by running under it as it was aimed a bit high. Pikachu, its tail shining like polished metal, leapt up and smacked Aurorus in the side of its face with Iron Tail, dealing a significant hunk of damage to Ayane's fossil Pokémon she had gone through so much trouble to get her hands on as she simply really wanted a fossil Pokémon.

Aurorus fell back but was not quite yet defeated. However, it was going to be shortly as May called out, "Blaziken, use Sky Uppercut!" May's Blaziken ran in and jumped up at aurorus while striking with its right fist, dealing a solid blow that knocked Aurorus over and knocked it out, forcing Ayane to recall it.

After recalling Aurorus, Ayane saw that it was just Ash and May battling her; Dawn with her named Darkrai was handling all of the grunts on her own. Ayane had her Wigglytuff and Castform left, but she doubt she'd be able to do much with the both of them against Ash and May, especially as it was starting to look like the grunts were just about wiped out to a man.

Cursing her luck, Ayane sent both Castform and Wigglytuff out, figuring she'd buy time if she gave her opponents more to worry about than one enemy Pokémon. As the right hand girl of the leader of Team Scorn braced herself, she had her Pokémon attack, hoping she'd at least buy enough time for Admin Hero to do his thing to that Team Scorn could in some way score some manner of victory here in Gloire City.

...

Sarah and Maaya were dragged into the large dining hall in their family's Gloire City summer home. Jun and Erik threw both of Sabine's daughters in, closed and locked the double doors leading into the dining room behind them, then stood in front of the doors. When the two duchesses looked around, they saw that ALL windows and doors in the dining room had Team Scorn members standing in front of them. This made it clear that there wouldn't be any possible hope of escape for them, although that didn't stop Sarah from looking around in a clear panic for a possible escape route.

Sarah was still looking around quickly when she heard a male voice coming from in front of her and Maaya speak up. "You aren't getting out of this," the male voice, a very familar one who the girls knew well, "Not until I settle the score with you. Not until I get back what was taken from me."

The two daughters of Sabine turned to look ahead, and as such they spotted Kaito Fu, who now goes by Hero, the Admin that leads Team Scorn's Shield Sector. Sarah was immediately alarmed that someone seeking vengence against her had gotten to her, but even so she tried to tough talk her way out of that mess. "...Oh, well how about that," Sarah said, a nervous smirk on her face, "It's the bastard who raped me."

"Don't even think about spitting any of your poison lies, you fucking quim," Hero scowled, "Everyone in Kalos knows full well that you had levied false accusations against me. They know I am not guilty of what you lied about."

The first born daughter took a nervous half-step back, shocked that she couldn't bully someone into bending knee to her. "...Grr, you know this all could have been avoided if you had just given me what I had wanted from the get-go without any resistance!" Sarah yelled, "Why couldn't you have just play nice and give me what I had asked for, when I had asked for it?!"

Hero gestured to Sarah casually, a hand extended. "...That right there," Hero said, "The attitude that you had just displayed, is one of the reasons. Also, you more or less demanded that I cough up my Chesnaught to you. You spoke and acted as if Chesnaught was nothing more than an accessory to make you look good as you went about with him, completely disregarding the fact that Chesnaught is a sentient, living being." Hero's gaze narrowed at the girl who had ruined his life because she didn't like taking 'no' for an answer.

"You aren't worthy to have Pokémon."

"BULL-FUCKING-SHIT!" Sarah yelled, "How DARE you say I'm not worthy of anything period! I AM worthy! Of everything that I say I am worthy of! It is you, the criminal who wouldn't be a criminal if he had just remembered his place and did what I said when I said it, who is the unworthy one! The fact that you had DARED to say that I am not worthy of something only serves to prove that I need to put you right back into your place! I AM YOUR BETTER, YOU FOUL LITTLE MAN!" Tossing up a poké ball, Sarah called out, "Go, Swablu!"

"Go, Linoone," Hero said as he sent his Linoone out, having long since been prepared to send a Pokémon out because he wanted to settle things with Sarah personally. To Hero's mildly piqued interest, Sarah's Swablu is a shiny. "...I'm not the only person you bullied a shiny Pokémon out of."

"If I want something then it is mine by right!" Sarah boasted, "That said, I will be winning this battle since I want to!" Gesturing forward, Sarah called out, "Swablu, use Peck!"

"Linoone, use Slash," Kaito said. The two Pokémon rushed one another, and Linoone struck Swablu down and knocked it out.

Sarah scowled, recalled her fainted shiny Swablu, then tossed up another poké ball while calling out, "Go, Gulpin!" Sarah's Gulpin, much like Swablu, is also shiny. Hero was starting to worry just how many people were forced to give up their shiny Pokémon to satiate Sarah's ego and greed, how many people saw their lives ruined due to them like Hero himself having told Sarah 'no'. "Use Pound!" Sarah called out.

"Linoone, Slash," Hero said. Once more, Hero's Linoone one-shoted the shiny Pokémon that Sarah had out.

Sarah called her fainted Gulpin back and sent out her next Pokémon. "Go, Barboach!" Sarah's Barboach was also a shiny, much to the waning surprise of Hero. "Use Water Gun!"

"Slash," Hero said, prompting Linoone to run under and around the Water Gun's path to rush up to Barboach and strike it, knocking it down to the floor where it laid in defeat.

The first born daughter of Sabine was getting more pissed as she recalled Barboach, then sent out her fourth Pokémon. "Go, Slugma!"

"Linoone return, go Altaria!" Hero said as he swapped his Pokémon around, calling Linoone back to send out Altaria. Sarah's Slugma, when it came out, was ALSO a shiny. Gesturing forward, Hero said, "Altaria, Dragon Breath!"

"Slugma, use Ember!" Sarah yelled. The two Pokémon fired their attacks at one another, but Dragon Breath plowed through the shots of Ember, then went on to blast and knock out the shiny Slugma.

Hero allowed himself a bit of a darkly amused smirk solely at Sarah's expense; by no means was any of Hero's dark mirth derived from what the Pokémon Sarah was using were going through. "You do take care of your ill gotten gains, don't you?" Hero asked.

"Zip it, knave!" Sarah shouted, "I'll have beaten you yet! Go Wooper!" Sarah's fifth Pokémon was a Wooper who, like the rest of Sarah's Pokémon thus far, was a shiny. "Use Tackle!"

"Dragon Breath," Hero said, cuing his Altaria to fire a breath attack at the shiny Wooper, hitting it and knocking it out.

Sarah recalled her fainted shiny Wooper, then tossed up the ball containing her last Pokémon. "Go, Machop!" Sarah's last of six Pokémon was a Machop, which like all of the other Pokémon that Sarah had used, is a shiny. Hero had counted half a dozen persons who had Pokémon that rightfully belonged to them having their lives taken out from under them because of Sarah. "Use Karate Chop!"

"Altaria, Dragon Breath!" Hero called out. Machop never even got close enough to strike Altaria before it was blasted and knocked out by Dragon Breath. As Sarah called back the fainted shiny Machop, Hero looked at her. "I have a question for you," Hero said, "Yes or no, are you capable of taking 'no' for an answer?"

Sarah, with an incredulous look on her face, said, "What are you talking about? Of course I can ta-"

"-So long as it's from our mom," Maaya spoke up, cutting her older sister off. With Sarah giving her a murderously angry look, Maaya said, "Oh cut it out, Sarah! All of this is solely your fault because you're a spoiled brat who can't stand being denied when she wants something! All of this could have been avoided, Admin Hero could still have been a hero of Kalos right now, if you had simply given up when he kept telling you no concerning his shiny Chesnaught!"

Sarah's expression had morphed into an enraged, somewhat ugly lip curled snarl before she relaxed upon hearing what her little sister said. "...Thanks for the reminder, brat," Sarah said. Turning back to look at Hero, Sarah said, "I still have an ace up my sleeve." Hero then saw it as Sarah took out a seventh poké ball.

"And people think that Team Scorn's evil!" Jun called out as he and the rest of Team Scorn there saw what Sarah was doing, "You're only supposed to have six Pokémon on hand! Pulling a seventh one out like this is totally cheating!"

"It's only cheating if criminals and other villains do it!" Sarah proclaimed, "I being on the side of good can totally get away with it as I'm using such a tactic against you sorry criminal lot!" Tossing the poké ball up, Sarah called out, "Go, Chesnaught!" Coming out to continue the battle that was already over was the very same shiny Chesnaught that Sarah had ruined Hero's life to get, now being used against its original owner.

"I'd like to see you try and beat me now, you little stain!" Sarah boasted, the air she was giving off getting more and more frantic. Gesturing forward, Sarah called out, "Alright, Chesnaught! Time to teach that fool in front of us a lesson over how he dared to defy me! Use Brick Break!" The others in the dining room looked on with varying looks of nervousness as Sarah was sending a Pokémon that originally belonged to Hero to attack him and his Altaria who he still had out. The members of Team Scorn all looked on with worried looks as Chesnaught...

END, CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED AND EIGHTY-NINE

Author's notes;

This chapter sees Team Scorn's attack on Gloire City continue, with Dawn, May, and Ash fighting Ayane directly while Kenny reaches the summer home that Sabine keeps in Gloire City. But Team Scorn won't go down easy, as Sarah learned first hand when Hero decimated her in a battle, forcing her to whip out the shiny Chesnaught that originally was Hero's before Sarah ruined his life in order to take it for herself. Sarah had issued an order to Chesnaught, but the chapter ends on a cliffhanger right before we see what Chesnaught does. This mini arc in Gloire City, as well as Sarah's extended battle with Hero, will continue in the next chapter. Toodles.
