Chapter One-hundred and ninety: Master Rank Mania (part four)

...Did absolutely nothing.

Everyone was looking onward as the shiny Chesnaught that Sarah was commanding, the very same Pokémon that she had ruined Hero's life over, just stood there, completely ignoring the spoiled quim who was trying (in vain) to issue orders to it. Instead, Chesnaught stared at Hero, recognizing him as his owner. Chesnaught had a stunned look of surprise on its face as it saw Hero, as it saw Kaito Fu. A tear welled up in the corner of Chesnaught's right eye as it was finally reunited with its trainer, its true trainer, a man that Chesnaught was starting to think it'd never see again.

"Don't you hear me, you dim-witted oaf?!" Sarah screamed at her pilfered shiny Chesnaught, "I command you now, so you will do as I say when I say it! And I am now saying that you must attack that man and his Altaria!"

Once again, Chesnaught completely ignored Sarah. It continued to look at Hero, who gave it a warm smile with an understanding expression. "...I missed you too, buddy," Hero said to his Chesnaught. As a result, Chesnaught gave its first reaction since Sarah had sent it out, that being a happy cry. Pointing to where Sarah stood behind Chesnaught, Hero said, "Chesnaught, get your poké ball from that thief who took you from me, then bring the ball to me."

Without missing a beat, Chesnaught obeyed Hero. It immediately turned on Sarah, marched quickly up to her and making her cry out in panic in the process, then knocked her to the floor with one swing of one of its mighty arms. Chesnaught's poké ball flew from Sarah's hand in the process, and Chesnaught skillfully caught it in its right hand. By the time Chesnaught reached Hero and handed its poké ball over to him, Sarah had gotten herself back up off of the floor and pointed an accusing finger right at where the Admin in charge of Team Scorn's Shield Sector stood.

"How DARE you steal from me, you dirty thief!" Sarah yelled at Hero, "That Chesnaught belongs to ME!"

"Oh give it up already, Sarah," Hero scowled, "Chesnaught was never yours, you just say so because of your amazingly brazen sense of entitlement. The fact that Chesnaught had listened to me the moment I gave it any order at all further cements the fact that you never really commanded Chesnaught. Chesnaught had merely put up with you, something that EVERYONE who has ever had the displeasure of ever knowing you personally had to do while you were around."

"No one has ever had to 'put up with me', as you had so wrongly said!" Sarah screamed, "Everyone either wants to be with me or wants to be me! I am the best! No one can ever hope to even come close to approaching being as great as me! Now you see here you foul little man, you will give me back my shiny Chesnaught, or so help me I will personally see to having-"

"You do realize that you are literally in no position to try bargaining with me," Hero interrupted, "Much less threaten me, which actually it doesn't surprise me in the least that you have the gall to do that by the way." Hero recalled his rightfully reclaimed Chesnaught, put the ball away. Hero then held his arms out at his sides at length. "You're completely alone here, Sarah. Surrounded on all sides by my men and I, none of which have any ears to hear any bargains or threats from you."

Sarah arched a wry eyebrow in confusion as she looked at Hero. "The hell are you talking about? My little sister's here, I can just throw her at you guys as a distraction so I can make my-"

*KICK*

*GAAHH!"

Sarah was cut off when she was kicked in the back from behind, making her fall over onto the floor face first. as she laid sprawled on the floor, the person who kicked her over grabbed her left hand, raised her left arm up by the hand and then, with a powerful foot slam, rammed the bottom of their foot right into Sarah's elbow, with enough force to break it so it was somewhat bending in the direction opposite of what it's supposed to. The oldest daughter of Sabine screamed in agonizing pain as she felt the shocking sting of great pain jolt all throughout her body.

Looking up as she laid on the floor, Sarah saw, to her shock, that it was Maaya who had let go of her hand after kicking her left elbow in. Maaya, the look on her face and in her eyes making it clear she by no means held any love for her older sister, walked around to do to Sarah's right arm what she'd just done to her left. After breaking Sarah's other elbow in and making her scream even more as a result, Maaya flipped her over so that Sarah laid on the floor face up. Sarah was helpless, surrounded on all sides, laying on the floor with arms in no condition to be used to get herself back up.

As Sarah started crying out of a mix of fear and pain, mucus dribbling out from her nose, Maaya had a cruel look of indifference on her face as she regarded her older sister. "Wow, look at you now, sis," Maaya sneered in a cruel and indifferent cold tone, "So gross and ugly with tears and mucus running down your face, and your face itself scrunched up into a pathetic look of despair and fear. Nowhere near how you usually look."

"Maaya you traitorous little bitch," Sarah stammered through her pained crying, despite her pain she was still defiant enough to insult and belittle those she saw as being below her (meaning pretty much everyone), "What is the meaning of this?"

"Fourth Captain Maaya is simply following the orders I gave her," Hero spoke up, catching Sarah's attention. The Admin in charge of Team Scorn's Shield Sector saw the look of surprise flash in Sarah's eyes. "Oh yeah, you never knew, didn't you?" Hero said, "Well here's a little factoid for you; your litter sister is the Fourth Captain of Team Scorn's Shield Sector. Has been since sometime well before Boss's Assistant Ayane had captured Reshiram over in the Unova region."

Maaya looked up to Hero, gave him an even look. "Her arms are both busted, so she can't put up a struggle." Backing off, Maaya said, "She's all yours."

Hero arched a wry eyebrow as he regarded his Fourth Captain. "...You know full well what it is that I plan to do, yet you don't seem bothered in the least."

"The first thing I plan to do after you're done is look into getting back the earrings that Sarah stole from me," Maaya said, "The lovely ruby drop ones that were given to me as a birthday gift by our late grandmother two years ago, my last birthday that our grandmother was alive for. I also plan to pack up what all I feel I'll need to bring with me as I plan to go with you."

Hero held his hand out with the palm facing Maaya, gesturing for her to hold her horses. "We can discuss plans like that later. For now..." Hero turned to look at where the broken Sarah laid on the floor. "...I got a score to settle."

Sarah watched it as Hero took the heater shield off of his left arm. He held it in both hands, like it was a large steering wheel, as he approached where she laid on the floor. Hero raised his shield up, as if he were going to be swinging it down. Sarah's eyes widened as she saw what Hero was doing, could tell what it was that the man she had wronged so long ago was about to do. Sarah went practically bug-eyed with mortal fright as she opened her mouth to scream. "Please! Don't do it! I'm sorry for everything! I'll do whatever you want! Just don-"

*SWING*

*SQUICK*

"GACK!"

...

Out in the main parlor area of Sabine's summer home, Kenny had just defeated the mysterious grunt, who admitted defeat after his Bisharp, Weavile, and Unfezant all went down to Kenny's named Giratina Black. "...I suppose that I have no other choice but to step aside and let you pass," the mysterious grunt said as he recalled his defeated Unfezant.

"Damn straight you have to let me pass," Kenny said as he recalled Black. Kenny then ran past the mysterious grunt, reaching the next floor and making the turn that would let him continue going after Admin Hero. After Kenny was gone, the mysterious grunt turned to look at how the other grunts were keeping Sabine and her varying servants all occupied.

To the surprise of the mysterious grunt, Sabine made her way past the other grunts and soon made an attempt to confront him on the stairs. The mysterious grunt went up the stairs until he reached the top, with Sabine a few steps below, still within punching range. "Since you're clearly defeated, it should be easy for me to bring you in and turn you over to the authorities," Sabine remarked, sounding confident and assured of her coming out on top here.

The mysterious grunt arched a wry eyebrow, although his sunglasses covered most of it. "You only challenge those who are already defeated? That speaks volumes of the kind of person that you are."

"Oh, that is rich," Sabine went on, "Saying that I'm lacking in character. It's rich coming from you, a person who is an actual criminal. I bet you're part of the efforts that Team Scorn are doing here for nothing more than a paycheck!"

The mysterious grunt scowled behind his gaiter mask and sunglasses, incensed at Sabine for saying he's only in things for money. "...No." Sabine's interest was piqued slightly when the mysterious grunt spoke up. "...No, I'm after something that lays beyond money, something that I would gladly give up all of the wealth in the world in order to get back."

To Sabine's surprise, the mysterious grunt took out a poké ball and tossed it up, calling out a Tyranitar. "But you said you were out of Pokémon!" Sabine exclaimed.

"I lied," the mysterious grunt replied, his tone and the air he was giving off both foreboding. He took a step down, going forward towards Sabine. The Grand Duchess was about to yell out for Kenny, to call for him and tell him that the mysterious grunt still had some Pokémon who could fight after all. But in her fright of being closed in on by the mysterious grunt, Sabine took a step backwards, and that was a mistake as one typically should not go down the stairs backwards.

"AHHHH!" Sabine screamed as she fell backwards and tumbled down the stairs. The mysterious grunt and his Tyranitar watched it as Sabine tumbled down the stairs, both of them visibly flinching when they heard a sickening crack. Sabine then reached the bottom of the stairs and fell over onto the floor, where the laid eerily still. The mysterious grunt and his Tyranitar looked on, both cringing, before the mysterious grunt recalled his Tyranitar. The mysterious grunt had orders from Admin Hero to end the Grand Duchess anyway (something about removing the nobility and monarchy from Kalos), but the accidental death that Sabine suffered due to tumbling down the stairs, breaking her neck in the process, worked just as well.

The mysterious grunt wasn't quite sure how he'd kill Sabine, mostly because he wasn't sure if he could will himself up to carry out the grisly act at all. Yet another reason why he didn't mind Sabine's accidental death at all; it got the job done and the mysterious grunt (technically) had no blood on his hands as a result as he didn't do anything (technically). Looking down, the mysterious grunt saw that the servants were enraged by the death of their noble master and got worked up to avenge her, although it probably wouldn't do much good as they were out numbered by Team Scorn's forces there.

The mysterious grunt knew full well that Kenny Harris couldn't be stopped, he was too strong for Team Scorn's efforts at Sabine's summer home. And Admin Hero, anticipating that one of the persons in Kenny's group would reach him and defeat him, told the men who came to the summer home with him that they would be pulling out as soon as Hero himself is defeated in battle. In reality, all that the mysterious grunt was doing with challenging Kenny was to occupy his time in the hopes Hero would have enough time to carry out the vital goal that he said he had for Team Scorn's attack on Gloire City.

Whatever said goal may be.

...

Kenny reached the doors that led into the large dining room that Sarah and Maaya were taken into according to a maid who Kenny had saved. The doors were shut, so Kenny called Godzilla out to help him break the doors down. Kenny heard some talking inside but couldn't make out any words as Godzilla, while pounding on the doors, showed that a Tyranitar's strength was not to be underestimated. Eventually, the doors were busted down (if it took a Tyranitar multiple hits to break, they must be strong), allowing Kenny and Godzilla to storm right into the dining room.

However, upon entering, Kenny saw a lot that took him by surprise; Hero was standing there, the headless body of Sarah at his feet with the head sitting on a platter on the table behind him, Maaya being held hostage by one of the grunts, and Hero's heater shield had blood along the one side. "Well well," Hero said, "If it isn't one of the heroic trainers who Team Scorn has to be careful with."

Kenny's eyebrows furrowed as he and Godzilla looked directly at Hero. "...I know enough about your history to know you have a reason, and I know enough about the girl you killed to know feel with all due respect that she had it coming. But did you seriously have to kill her?"

"Admin Hero, it's just the one of him against the many of us! We can take him!" one of the grunts called out before he sent out a Houndour, prompting the other grunts to all send out Pokémon, having a variable horde against Kenny and his named Tyranitar. With a smirk, Kenny simply raised his arm up to show the Mega Ring he wore on that wrist, pressed the Key Stone embedded in the Mega Ring. This triggered the Mega Evolution process to occur on Gozdilla, Mega Evolving him into Mega Tyranitar.

Even though the enemy was now Mega Evolved, Team Scorn did not let up, as they sent all of their Pokémon on the offensive. Kenny, however, merely called out, "Godzilla, use Rock Slide!" The named Mega Evolved Tyranitar summoned a rain of large rocks to fall down all over the area of the dining room where the Pokémon were all fighting. Most of the Pokémon used by Team Scorn were taken out in the initial fall, with the only ones still attacking those who either barely pulled through (it was clear they were banking on their resistances) or were able to avoid being hit by Rock Slide.

Godzilla took some hits as a result, but none of it was too bad. The second volley of Rock slide took out the remaining Pokémon being used by Team Scorn, then a third volley took out the next wave. Godzilla took some hits here and there, but he was still in good fighting shape when the grunts and two present Captains were all wiped out to a man. Hero turned his head to see where he had put Sarah's head on the platter; it was still there, not having been hit. The Admin of Team Scorn's Shield Sector turned to look back at Kenny and his named Mega Evolved Tyranitar.

"...The power of Mega Evolution really is great," Hero said, "I can see why the Boss became interested."

"Oh there is no way in hell that Team Scorn is gonna get its hands on the power to use Mega Evolution!" Kenny scowled.

Holding up two fingers, Hero said, "Two points right back at you, Kenny Harris. One, Team Scorn obtained the means to use Mega Evolution at Pomace Mountain, and can Mega Evolve a Mawile as we got the appropriate Mega Stone there. Granted, we haven't done anything with it yet, but we DO have it. And two..." Lowering his hand, Hero went on, "...We also have someone within Team Scorn who can use Mega Evolution."

Kenny's eyes widened with shocked surprise, struck to his core by the reveal that Team Scorn can use that most sacred of powers, Mega Evolution. "But I suppose that I've prattled on for long enough," Hero said, "I have no doubt that you intend to try and stop me, to beat me and take me in. Mind you, I've already accomplished my absolute goal in Team Scorn's attack here on Gloire City, and I was able to pull off the accompanying secondary goal as well. Now I'm just waiting to see if the special agent I was able to get a hold of can pull his goal off."

Kenny's mind went back to the mysterious grunt. "You mean that mysterious fellow with the sunglasses and deep voice? Yeah, his sunglasses and having his mask up makes it impossible to get a good idea of what he looks like. Regardless, I doubt there's much he can do, given I wiped him in a battle. Took out his Bisharp, Weavile, and Unfezant before I got here for the party."

Gesturing to Kenny, Hero asked, "Well what about his Tyranitar and Metagross?"

Kenny's eyes widened again. "...He lied about being wiped out."

"I told him to feign defeat if his three Pokémon that weren't pseudo-legends were knocked out if he crossed you or one of your friends," Hero said, "He needed to keep some of his Pokémon in reserve so that he could carry out the task I gave him."

"And what task DID you give to the mysterious stranger?" Kenny demanded.

Hero tossed up a poké ball, called out his Linoone. "You'll find out when the battle's over," Hero said, "Linoone, use Rock Smash!"

"Godzilla, use Crunch!" Kenny called out.

The two Pokémon rushed one another, and although Godzilla took the hit from Linoone, he was able to retaliate with a Crunch that took Linoone out in a single hit. Hero called back his fainted Linoone and sent his Altaria out. "Use Dragon Breath!"Hero called out.

"Godzilla, use Rock Slide!" Kenny commanded.

Once more, the two Pokémon used by Kenny and Hero respectively fought, this time staying at a distance as Godzilla brought a rain of large rocks down on Altaria, who fired a Dragon Breath. Altaria went down, and its Dragon Breath did NOT paralyze Godzilla. But damage was starting to stack on him. Kenny, although a bit worried, took on a relaxed look. "I got it from Clemont that Linoone and Altaria are your only Pokémon," Kenny said, "Pretty rare for a Team Scorn Admin to only carry two Pokémon. I would of guessed that you would of had at least three."

Hero, after recalling his fainted Altaria, took out a third poké ball. "...Funny you say that," Hero said, "As I had just finished business with Sarah here-" Hero paused to gestured to where Sarah's severed head sat on the platter on the table "-To resolve that issue." Turning back to fully face Kenny, Hero tossed up the third poké ball that he held while calling out, "Go, Chesnaught!" Coming out to continue the battle was Hero's shiny Chesnaught, who he had just gotten back. The two of them were once again together, trainer and Pokémon, and were ready to live it up just like old times.

"Joke's on you," Kenny said, "Godzilla is Mega Evolution capable now, so he has no reason to fear Pokémon such as your Chesnaught!" Pointing forward, Kenny called out, "Godzilla, use Brick Break!"

"Chesnaught, Spiky Shield!" Hero commanded. Chesnaught formed a spiked shield that not only blocked Godzilla's Brick Break, but caused the named Mega Evolved Tyranitar to take some damage. Gesturing forward, Hero called out, "Chesnaught, Brick Break!"

"Godzilla, use Brick Break again!" Kenny ordered. The two Pokémon swung at each other with Brick Break, and both took heavy hits. However, although Chesnaught was barely able to pull through, Godzilla's Mega Evolution became undone as he had been defeated, taking a times four super effective attack that got STAB, also Godzilla had taken damage over time. Recalling his Tyranitar, Kenny said, "Damn it! Every time!" Kenny then sent out his Giratina Black. "Use Shadow Force!" Kenny commanded, prompting the named Giratina to vanish.

Hero's eyes widened a bit as Black disappeared, then as he and his Chesnaught looked around, Black reappeared in a forceful blow that no protective move could have blocked, striking the shiny Chesnaught and knocking it out. Black roared victoriously as it floated in its Origin Forme. "And that's what you get for engaging in the art of discount dastardly deed-doing!" Kenny said as he pointed at the now fully defeated Hero.

Hero, as he recalled his fainted shiny Chesnaught, looked to Kenny. "...The damage has already been done," Hero said, "A blow has been struck to the nobility of Kalos, and hopefully my special agent will strike another blow before Team Scorn is forced to pull out from Gloire City."

Kenny scoffed bitterly, having a fair idea what Hero meant by his special agent 'striking another blow', especially since Sabine was still in the same area as the mysterious grunt. Kenny then turned his attention to where Maaya was being held; the young duchess looked down at the floor, obviously in shock over the death of her older sister, their relationship be damned. Speaking of Maaya, the members of Team Scorn who were present knew that they wouldn't be able to do anything to Maaya, not while Kenny was there with his legendary dragon out in the dining hall large enough to house it surprisingly enough.

At Hero's cue, Maaya was thrown at Kenny, distracting him long enough for the others to all run out of there. Kenny saw Black try to move to stop Team Scorn, but he called out to the named Giratina. "Black, no," Kenny said, "We need to focus more on making sure Maaya here is secure." As much as stopping Team Scorn was kind of a big deal, making sure the innocent persons were protected was more important. Besides which, Kenny was figuring that Maaya might be needing someone to be with her at the moment.

She did, after all, had to have seen her older sister killed right in front of her. Kenny was figuring from the blood he saw along the edge of Hero's shield that he used it as a crude chopping weapon to chop Sarah's head off. That could NOT have been pleasant, either to watch or certainly to experience. But such unpleasant thoughts had to be pushed out of his mind at the moment; Kenny had a duty, or at least he felt that he had the duty, to be there for Maaya. It worried Kenny that Maaya actually was not crying, but he chalked it up to the young girl simply being in shock.

...He had no idea that Maaya was the Fourth Captain of Team Scorn's Shield Sector, nor did he know that Maaya was tasked by Hero to continue 'living on the outside' as it were, give Team Scorn eyes and ears in the world of Kalosian nobility. Hero's slaying of Sarah was in truth just a taste of what the Shield Sector was gunning for in its bid to solidify its holding in the Kalos region. Maaya, as a member of Team Scorn, was going to be sparred when the plans were carried out wholesale, and she in truth felt as if those Team Scorn would be bringing to task had it coming.

The influence that the royalty and nobility in Kalos had on Kalos itself had gone on for long enough. At least as far as Hero, and Maaya herself, were concerned.

Back where Dawn, Ash, and May were battling Ayane and her men, Ash had scooped up Pikachu after it was defeated. Laying Pikachu down next to where he stood, Ash got back up and sent out his Greninja. Seeing the Greninja piqued Ayane's interest. "So you also have a Greninja," Ayane said, "Funny that. Admin Ninja who heads the Kunai Sector also owns a Greninja."

"Well my Greninja is a cut above the rest!" Ash called out, "And we'll be bringing all that we have to bare at the table to bring you down!" To Dawn's alarm as Ash was doing it while a Team Scorn siege was going on and he hadn't gotten it down pat yet, Ash began to synch up with Greninja, making the torrent of cloaking water appear. However, and to Dawn's amazement as well as May's, the water burst away, revealing a perfected Ash-Greninja. "Let's go, Greninja!" Ash called out, "Water Shuriken!"

Ash-Greninja leapt up and cast loads of Water Shurikens all over at the enemy Pokémon, striking all of them save for Ayane's Wigglytuff which was her last Pokémon (she still had her shiny Lopunny, but using it would end up exposing her Ochaco alias). All of the struck enemy Pokémon were defeated, then Ash called out, "Use Cut on Wigglytuff!" Ash-Greninja then rushed forward with a short energy blade conjured up, then it cut at Wigglytuff with it, knocking it out and ending the battle right there and then.

Ayane, as well as the Team Scorn grunts with her, went wide-eyed with surprise. "Okay, I know for a fact that Admin Ninja's Greninja can't do that."

Ash opened his mouth to speak, but he suddenly collapsed to his knees as he coughed like he was catching his breath; similarly, Greninja's Ash-Greninja transformation became undone, returning it to normal. As May tended to Ash, Dawn was figuring that Ash's use of perfected Ash-Greninja here was a one time deal until he truly got the power down pat; the heat of battle against villains besieging a city must have given Ash and his Greninja an extra kick, and that they still needed to train to master the power for real. Still, this HAD to be progress in the right direction for Ash and Greninja, who was likewise exhausted like Ash.

May, with her Blaziken helping her, looked over Ash and his Greninja and Pikachu. Meanwhile, Dawn returned her attention to Ayane and her followers, keeping her eyes on them with help from her named Darkrai Tobias. "...You've gone too far, Ayane," Dawn said, her tone firm and grim, "There's a chance that Team Scorn's actions here, that actions you yourself had personally carried out, might have taken lives."

"At least one life is guaranteed to be lost," Ayane said, "Hero plans to kill the Grand Duchess's first born daughter. Hoo boy, let me tell you, when Hero told me the tale of how Duchess Sarah ruined his life, it made what that quim Miss Akeno did to me look moderately tame."

Dawn's eyes narrowed at Ayane as she revealed that Admin Hero, once a Kalosian regional hero, was knowingly and willingly planning to carry out murder, and against a Kalosian noble no less. Granted, said noble not only had ruined his life utterly beyond any hope of salvage or repair because he wouldn't give her his Chesnaught that just so happened to be a shiny, but said noble ended up getting said Chesnaught anyway by taking it while everyone else was distracted. Dawn was finding it to be the height of difficult to find even one thing about Duchess Sarah that could be considered a redeeming fact.

As much as Sarah was lacking in being a good person, did she truly deserve to be murdered?

"Anyway," Ayane said, "Since I'm defeated, Team Scorn's gonna have to pull out of Gloire City. Hopefully Admin Hero has had enough time to at a minimum get his shiny Chesnaught back from the-"

"Ma'am, I got word that Hero did in fact get his Chesnaught back," a male grunt spoke up as he lowered a walkie talkie, "He was also able to successfully kill Duchess Sarah. I don't know the status of the other two nobles, however."

Shrugging, Ayane said, "Oh well, Hero can nip them in the bud later as part of Team Scorn's plans for Kalos." Dawn became alarmed when Ayane mentioned that Hero from the sounds of it was also planning to go after Sabine and Maaya. Dawn with Tobias at her side was going to rush Ayane, but she stopped short when she heard Ash cough up again, making her turn to look back. "Oh yes, Ash Ketchum's new power he can use with his Greninja," Ayane said, "It looks interesting, as well as strong like a Mega Evolution. Team Scorn will be adding that to its files."

Ayane sent word to all members of Team Scorn in Gloire City to pull out before she and the men with her left Dawn, May, and the downed Ash behind. As much as Dawn wanted to go after Ayane to try and stop her, making sure Ash was okay, especially since he's suffering recoil from using a power he still doesn't fully have under control, was more important. Besides, at least the attack on Gloire City had been brought to a close, and Team Scorn was pulling out, allowing those left behind to run damage assessment and pick up the pieces.

Dawn was feeling that there would be a LOT of pieces to pick up around there in Gloire City.

END, CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED AND NINETY

Author's notes;

This chapter wraps up the attack on Gloire City by Team Scorn, where there are (at least) two deaths. There will be fallout from what happened during the attack in the next chapter, as well as something that may rock the Kalos Pokémon Showcase scene. There will also be a reveal or two in the next chapter, so hang tight for more.
