"Vulpix Fire Spin!"
Vulpix fires off a huge stream of fire that whips and encircles Erika Vileplume
"Now, Extrasensory!"
It deftly picks up the grass type and slams it into the floor who is then left passed out on the floor
"Vileplume cannot continue, the match goes to Challenger Dustin"
"You were brilliant Dusty!" comes a scream from the video phone
The video shows Grandma jumping up and around the room, while Mom sits happily smiling in her bed
"Uh thanks" I say with a laugh
"In all honesty Vulpix did all the work, she took down both Victreebel and Vileplume, Ivysaur didn't even get to battle"
"Well as long as they're all around the same level honey you'll be fine" Mom says softly
"Yeah, oh I've entered a local tournament! The prize is a collection of Evolutions stones, there's a Water, Thunder and Fire stones. Mean I can evolve Poliwhirl and Vulpix"
"Very nice! You'll have a fully evolved team then!" Grandma adds
"Well actually, I caught this guy too" I say picking Squirtle up from my side and holding him up to the camera
"A Squirtle?! Where on earth did you get that?" Grandma questions
"It was causing some trouble back in Lavender Town, I managed to convince it to join me on my journey"
"Thats three Water Pokemon now isn't it?" Mom question yawning slightly
"Yeah, I think I need something to round off the team, I don't really have anyone with high speed except Starmie"
"Well I'm sure you will figure it out deary" Mom says her eyes fluttering
"Thanks Mom, get some sleep I'll speak to you both soon!" I say as Squirtle waves to the screen too
They give their goodbyes and the video clicks off
I sit and stare at the screen for a bit, Mom seems to be feeling better maybe if I manage to get all the way to the junior championship she might be feeling well enough to come and watch me battle in person
"Squirt?" Squirtle looks up at my questioningly
"Oh sorry buddy got lost in my head" I say looking towards the clock in the lobby
"The tournament starts soon we should head over to the department store" I say grabbing Squirtle into my arms and racing off
"So here we are, Dustin correct?" Says the man sat at the sign up table
"Yes sir!" I say with a nod
"So, there are only 8 participants today, so you'll have to win 3 matches. They're all one on one matches, you'll have to register 3 Pokemon now and you'll have to use all three in your matches"
"Okay, well lets go Starmie, Squirtle, Ivysaur" I say looking at him confidently
"I'll get you registered, if you would like to take a seat" He begins as a small Pokemon jumps to the table and begins to jump in front of him
"Eevee!" It shout bouncing up and down
"Oh for heavens sake Eevee you have to stop!" He shout grabbing the small Pokemon
I laugh
"They're a cute one, is it yours?" I say patting its head as it coos out happily
"No, I'm a babysitter if anything, it got left here recently by a competitor. Its been causing trouble ever since"
"Oh why did they leave it?"" I say as Eevee squirms to get away from the man
"They gave up on their challenge, they dumped all their Pokemon back into the wild, the other all returned to the wild but this one stuck around, we think its looking for a strong trainer to take it, Eevee enough!" As he manages to finally get it in a tight bind
"Full of energy, well I'm sure you will find your perfect trainer soon" I say smiling down at the normal type
The man shows me to the battler arena, all the other competitors except two who are already in the first battle of today, I take a seat. Alot of the trainers are slightly older than me, look to be maybe on the intermediate journey. Luckily all the Pokemon in this tournament will be set to the junior level of 30 so all my Pokemon should be fine. I had read previously about this tournament, normally there are at least 16 participants and it can sometimes get as high as 32 so for there just to be 8 was a surprise, however it become apparent why quite quickly
"And the winner is Alvin!"
I look up to the screen and see a young trainer accompanied by a Charizard standing tall over a fainted Dewgong
"Oh Alvin is here" I say under my breath
On my journey I hadn't spoken or interacted with many other trainer out and around. However the few battler I had always brought up the name Alvin in conversation. He was currently the leading favourite to win the junior tournament being held soon. He already had capture over 120 Pokemon and had 14 fully evolved Pokemon.
"Whew that was easy!" Says Alvin as he walks back into the trainer area flopping down to one of the benches
"Hope no of you were looking forward to winning as there is no beating me here!" He exclaims confidently
"Will Dustin please enter the battlefield"
I stand up and dusts myself off before walking up towards the tunnel I roll my finger over Squirtles Pokeball before walking up before coming out into the small stadium. The battlefield is a standard ground field with no obstructions. I look over to see an older girl trainer standing opposite, she is announce as Peggy from Cinnabar Island
"Good luck kid! Give me your best shot!" She shouts over to me
"Good luck too!" I shout back
"If both trainers are ready please choose your Pokemon!" the judge shouts
"Magmar you're up!"
"Squirtle I choose you!"
Magmar lands with a big thud and coughs out some fire, Squirtle lands with its hand on the ground almost in a superhero pose
"A type advantage aye? That won't help you, Magmar Fire Spin"
Magmar fire out the stream of fire and it wrap around Squirtle
"Squirtle, Rapid Spin"
Squirtle ducks into its shell and spins dispersing the flames quickly, taking minimal damage
"Hydro Pump!"
Squirtle continues spinning blasting water out, it continues pelting Magmar who recoils back
"Magmar grab it!"
Magmar pushes through and manages to grab the shell of Squirtle
"Thunderpunch!"
It draws back arm glowing yellow crackling with electricity before slamming it into the midriff of Squirtle who is sent flying backwards, he skids of the ground and grimaces but stares defiantly at Magmar
"You okay Squirt?" I shout out and he affirms with a thumbs up
"Okay lets try this, Aura Sphere!"
Squirtle takes a deep breath glowing bright blue summoning a ball of purple and blue energy which crackles and spins
"Fire!"
He releases it and it speeds towards Magmar
"You can't dodge it, catch it!"
Magmar stands firm and catches the ball trying to stop it hitting the mark
It grits and manages to fling it upwards and it dissipates
"Ha that won't get through"
"Do it Squirtle!"
Squirtle who had ducked it head in for a Skull Bash flings itself towards Magmar slamming into its midriff and back to the ground in front of Peggy
"Magmar cannot continue Squirtle is the winner!" The judge declares as Squirtle teeters and stumbles backwards after the collision, I catch him in my arms and lift him up triumphantly
"You did it Squirt you were amazing!" I say chucking him up slightly as he cheers
"Congrats" Peggy says walking up holding her hand out
"Oh thank you, your Magmar is super strong too!" I say in reply
She thanks me before we both return to the trainer lobby
"Congrats kid" one of the other older competitors says
"Oh thanks!" I reply before I take a seat at the bench
I spot Alvin staring at me intently, he giving a really darting look one that I would almost say is in disgust. He quickly pulls his phone out and begins to flick through it
The next two battles go through quickly, the boy who had congratulated me goes out in the next match his Nidorina losing to the other trainers Onix who gets drawn against Alvin. My opponent is a girl called Siobhan whose Tangrowth beats the other boys Golem. Alvin's quickly beats his opponent Rapidash with his Gengar. My battle against Siobhan goes really smoothly, Starmie almost one shots her Rhydon, only having to use two Flash Cannons to win. I slowly walk back into the trainer area and take a bench opposite Alvin
"You got lucky in that first round!" He says leaning backpack
"Sorry?" I say narrowing my eyes at him
"Your Squirtle is Level 38 why haven't you evolved it? That would have been the first thing I would have done, although I wouldn't have caught it in the first place" He spits at me
"And why is that?"
"You only have 5 Pokemon and three are water types, that's basics one good electric Pokemon and you are done" He says with a condescending laugh
I go to retort but I'm surprised by Eevee who jumps to my lap bouncing up and down
"Ha that is that Elliot kids Eevee" Alvin says
"He was crap, I battle him and he didn't even beat one of my Pokemon, couldn't even leave a scratch with 4, I told him to give up as there no chance he would get many badges, must have listened to me"
Eevee jumps down and growls up at Alvin
"Pipe down pipsqueak, I did you a favour! You should join me, I'll evolve you with one of the stones I'm going to win" He says throwing a Pokeball up and down in his hand before tossing it at Eevee, it quickly bats it back with its tail it his chest before jumping back to the bench next to me pushing its head into my leg
"Pfft whatever! Weak Pokemon with a weak trainer, you'll be a perfect match!" He says before walking up the tunnel
"What a jerk" I say under my breath before I look to Eevee
"Don't worry, me and Ivysaur will beat him for you and Elliot"
"Vee!" It calls out happily as the man from the register table walk in
"There you are! Come on you can watch him from the stand!" He says calling Eevee to him
It jumps down before looking back at me, I give it a nod which causes it to smile as it follows the man out of the room
I have to win now
I pull myself up and take the small walk up the tunnel, I look out to see Alvin in the nearest battle box
"You can have that one" He says pointing across the battlefield
I dart him a stare before walking across the field, I take up my position staring out over the field
"If both trainers are ready please send out your Pokemon"
"Gyarados!"
"Ivysaur!"
Ivysaur lands and flutters it bulb before staring up at the goliath of water serpent which sprawls and coils in front of Ivysaur, it flinches before standing firm
"You got this Ivy!" I shout out in encouragement which it calls back in affirmation
"You got this" Alvin calls out mockingly
"Gyarados Dragon Rage!"
Gyarados forms a huge yellow and green ball before firing it off hitting Ivysaur head on, she skids back before shaking it off
"Razor Leaf!"
Ivysaur bulb glow green and it fire the plumage of leaves
"Block it with your tail!"
Gyarados deftly lifts it tail and blocks the leaves
"Iron Tail!"
It tails then glows white and it bats Ivysaur away to her back
"This is a whitewash again, Gyarados finish it up with Ice Fang"
Gyarados mouth glows a bright white bellowing with cold air, it launches forwards
"Use your vines to jump"
Ivysaur slams it strong vines into the ground and flip up over Gyarados who slams its head into the ground
"Grab its head!"
Ivysaur then wraps it vines around Gyarados elongated fangs and flips it over with momentum and slams it into the ground in front of Alvin
"Gyarados what are you doing!" He shouts out frustratedly while Ivysaur lands in front of me
"Ivysaur use Giga Drain!"
Ivysaur wraps it vines around Gyarardos who is still stirring, it absorbs its energy while it recoils in pain
"Iron Tail now!"
It tails glows again and it whips it around smacking the vines away from its midriff whose manages to gain some health back
"Flamethrower!"
It slithers up and blast down on Ivysaur with a stream of strong fire
"Ivysaur try and block it!"
It hold its vines up and tries to divert the flames. It creates a little pocket but the flames do dart and lick around Ivysaur causing some damage
"Hold on Ivy!" I shout out rooted to the spot trying to think of a way out of this
"Burn it to a crisp Gyarados!" Alvin shouts almost mockingly
"IVY" Ivysaur screeches out before beginning to glow a mix of bright white and blue
"Ivy!" I shout as its form to distort and wobble, after a small while there's a bright flash of white which dissipate the flames causing Gyarados to flinch
"VENU!" calls out the newly evolved Venusaur
"No way" I say under my breath as Venusaur continue to roar at the opposing Gyarados
"An evolution mid battle how cliché" Alvin calls out
"Venusaur, now use Leaf Strom!"
It roars and summons a huge wave of leaves which fly out and batter Gyarados who writhes in pain
"Now Solar beam!"
It bulbs glows a bright white and stores energy
"Flamethrower!"
Gyarados pulls its head back beginning it attack
"Now!"
Venusaur fires off it attack connecting cleanly with Gyarados's head it spins away and lands to the floor with a thud unable to go on
"Gyarados cannot continue, Venusaur is the victor, the battle goes to Dustin!"
I run out and jump on Venusaurs back
"You did it! You did it!" I say as Venusaur jumps up and down with me on her back
I slide down and hold her face
"You were brilliant!" I say hugging her
"Wow I used to be able to hold you in my arms, not anymore!" I say to her with a laugh
"How can he use an evolution to stop an attack, if it hadn't evolved that Flamethrower would have knocked it out!"
I turn to see Alvin berating the judge who is ignoring him as he write on his notepad
"He doesn't have control over when his Pokemon evolves, you should have reacted better to it" the judge says coldly to Alvin
He grits his teeth before darting his eyes at me before storming up
"You got lucky! If we battle another 99 times you'd never win, this was the 1 in 100" He spits at me before storming out of the arena.
"Wow someone is a sore loser" I say before I spot Eevee racing up to me
"Vee! Vee!" It calls out bouncing around my feet
"Hey buddy, told you we would win for you!" I say crouching down patting its head, it calls out happily as the man who registered me walks up with a small box
"Congratulations Dustin, here your stones. I'm meant to be impartial but I'm glad that brat didn't win" He says as he passes me the box
"Thank you" I says tucking it under my arm and grabbing two balls from my belt sending Vulpix and Poliwhirl out
"Okay both, you don't have to do this but these stones will cause you to evolve, you'll change but you'll be stronger too, I won't force you" I say crouching down opening the box to show the stones off
They both look to each other and Venusaur before they all nod to each other, Poliwhirl snatches the water stone while Vulpix rest its nose on the fire stone. They glow white and morphs quickly into their new evolved states of Poliwhirl and Ninetails
"You both look amazing!" I call out pulling both into a hug dropping the box to the floor, it bounces sending the other stone flying into the air
"Vee!" Eevee calls out before jumping high into the air grabbing the stone
"Eevee!" I call out looking up to catch it
It lands in my arms form completely changed now as a Jolteon
"Jolt!" it calls out happily wriggling in my arms
"Eevee!" The man shouts
"That was Dustin's stone you can't just use it like that!"
"Its okay" I say trying to calm the mood
"You just wanted to use that stone to get stronger didn't you?" I say placing it on the floor as the newly evolved Jolteon jumps about
"Jolt!"
"Well, if you want to get stronger you need to find a trainer, why don't you come along with us?" I ask
"Jolt" It stops looking up at me flanked by my newly evolved team
"You don't have to but, you're super strong and I want you to get stronger with us!"
It looks up at my before jumping into my arms
"I'll take that as a yes then" I says with a laugh
"Jolt!" It says nodding away
I pull a ball from my belt and tap it against its head, it rolls once confirming the capture
I send Jolteon out along with Squirtle and Starmie. They all land and call out congratulating the three on their newly evolved forms. I look over them and watch as they all welcome Jolteon to team
If I can fully evolve Squirtle I'll have a really strong team, we did get a little lucky with Venusaur evolving but we're not that far behind Alvin. We could actually win the championship.
