Episode 113: Getting the Bugs Out
After retrieving an Apricorn Pokéball made by Kurt and delivered by his granddaughter, Sora, Kairi, and Tracey heads for the Azalea Town Gym after getting Gligar and Noctowl checked in the Pokémon Center.
"Well, now to get to the second part of the reason we came here," Sora said.
"That's right, to challenge the Azalea Town Gym Leader," Kairi said.
"I just hope your training has paid off. And that battle with Silver might have helped you, too," Tracey said.
"Yeah. This Gym battle might help Gligar on his toes," Sora said.
"Don't forget that we have to get to Kurt's house to check on the GS Ball," Kairi reminded her boyfriend.
"You're right, Kairi. We'll head there after the battle," Sora said. Sora, Kairi, Tracey, Pikachu, Angel, and Togepi arrived to the Azalea Town Gym at last. They entered through the doors of the Gym and saw that it looked more like a greenhouse. But a greenhouse that has Bug-type Pokémon in it. There were Caterpie, Weedle, Metapod, Kakuna, Ledyba, and Spinarak all around. There were also some Pineco in the trees along with some Heracross drinking the sap. "This must be the place."
"It looks more a forest than a Gym. There are Bug-types all around," Kairi said.
"It makes to me, because Bug-types like Caterpie and Ledyba loves the forest," Tracey said.
"You got that right," a boy's voice spoke. They looked around to figure out who said that.
"Where are you?" Sora asked.
"Up here," the voice said. Sora looks up the tree and saw a young boy with purple hair and eyes. He is wearing a neckerchief, and he wears yellow-striped knee socks. He wore green shorts, suspended by a belt and brown shoes. "I saw you come in. I'm guessing that one of you is here for a Gym battle?"
"Yes, I am! Do you know where the Gym Leader is?" Sora asked.
"Actually, you're looking at him," the boy said. Sora, Kairi, and Tracey looked at him confused. "The name's Bugsy, and as you can see, I use Bug-type Pokémon to battle. Now who are you?"
"I'm Sora Ketchum from Pallet Town," Sora said. Bugsy was stunned to hear Sora's answer.
"Hey, I know you! You're the Champion of the Indigo Plateau Pokémon League a while back, aren't you?" Bugsy asked.
"Um, yeah," Sora replied.
"I thought so! It'll be a huge honor to accept your challenge, Sora. It's not every day that a Pokémon League Champion comes in to challenge a Gym Leader. As a Gym Leader, I accept your challenge," Bugsy said.
"Great!" Sora said.
"Before we do that, I have a small favor to ask you," Sora said.
"Sure. What kind of favor?" Sora asked.
"I was wondering if you could get the ladder for me? I'm kinda stuck up here," Bugsy saidm Sora, Kairi, and Tracey saw the ladder in the shrubs.
"Okay," Sora said. It took them a minute to get Bugsy to climb back down once the ladder was set.
"It feels good to get down," Bugsy said.
"How did you end up stuck up there?" Kairi asked.
"I was trimming of the leaves when a Caterpie jumped out and startled me. I accidentally knocked my ladder over and ended up stuck up here. I was good as stuck until you three got here," Bugsy said. He chuckled a bit. "It's kinda embarrassing when that happens."
"Happens to the best of us," Sora said.
"Anyway, we can start having our match whenever you're ready," Bugsy said.
"I'm ready when you are," Sora said.
"Great. You can follow me," Bugsy said. He leads them to the battlefield. Both Trainers took their positions when the referee has arrived.
"The Gym battle between the Gym Leader Bugsy and the challenger Sora from Pallet Town is about to begin! Both Trainers will be using three Pokémon each! During the match, only the challenger will be allowed to make substitutions! The battle is over when all three of either the challenger's or the Gym Leader's Pokémon are all unable to continue battling! Select your Pokémon and begin battling!" The referee called out. Bugsy took out his first Pokéball and threw it.
"My first Pokémon is going to be Butterfree!" Bugsy called out as Butterfree came on out to battle. Sora took out a Pokéball and threw it.
"Go for it, Gligar!" Sora called out. Gligar came on out to battle.
"Sora's starting up with Gligar. Smart move for Sora's part," Tracey said.
"Well, he did say he wanted to make it up to Gligar," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Toge, Toge," Togepi chirped.
"Butterfree! Begin with your Gust!" Bugsy ordered. Butterfree flapped its wings and kicked up a strong wind.
"Dodge and use Poison Sting!" Sora ordered. Gligar flew to dodge Gust and fired Poison Sting at the Butterfly Pokémon. Butterfree took the hit from Poison Sting.
"Use Tackle!" Bugsy ordered. Butterfree charges at Gligar with Tackle.
"Dodge with Quick Attack!" Sora ordered. Gligar dodges with Quick Attack. "Use Wing Attack!" Gligar comes flying at Butterfree with Wing Attack.
"Use Confusion!" Bugsy ordered. Butterfree uses Confusion to stop Gligar in his tracks and slammed him down. Sora calls Gligar back.
"Sorry, Gligar. Couldn't risk losing you at the start," Sora said, taking out another Pokéball and threw it. "Okay, Noctowl! Go!" His Pokéball opened and stars swirls around Noctowl upon entry.
"So, you had another Flying-type Pokémon in store for me. I'd expect no less of the Indigo Plateau Champion," Bugsy said with a grin.
"Something is telling me that he was expecting this," Tracey said.
"It looks like he wanted Sora to send Noctowl out," Kairi said.
"Butterfree! Use Electroweb!" Bugsy ordered. Butterfree spews a silk of electricity, shocking Noctowl.
"Looks like you were right, Tracey. He had his Butterfree learn how to use Electroweb to go against Flying-type Pokémon," Kairi said.
"Bugsy didn't do that with Gligar because he knew Gligar is a Ground-type Pokémon, and it's common knowledge Ground-type Pokémon are immune to Electric-type moves," Tracey said.
"How do you like that, Sora?" Bugsy asked.
"Not too bad, Bugsy. The way your Butterfree used Electroweb was awesome," Sora complimented Bugsy.
"Thanks, Sora. Don't think that saying something nice to me is going to win you a Gym Badge," Bugsy said.
"I didn't win the Zephyr Badge just by talking my way to victory," Sora said.
"Let's see you prove it, Sora! Butterfree! Electroweb again!" Bugsy ordered. Butterfree fires another Electroweb right at Noctowl. Sora saw that coming.
"Use Confusion to block it!" Sora ordered. Noctowl uses Confusion to block Butterfree's Electroweb, much to Bugsy's dismay. "Okay, Noctowl! Send it back!" Noctowl sends Electroweb back at the Butterfly Pokémon.
"Try to get away from there!" Bugsy exclaimed. Butterfree tried to dodge, but it came too fast for Butterfree to dodge. "Butterfree!"
"Use Wing Attack!" Sora ordered. Noctowl flew at Butterfree, knocking Butterfree out.
"Butterfree is unable to battle! Noctowl wins!" The referee announced.
"Way to go, Sora!" Kairi cheered for her boyfriend.
"Having Noctowl use Butterfree's own attack against it was a genius move. But it's not over yet," Tracey said. Bugsy calls Butterfree back inside and smiled.
"You fought hard, Butterfree any you did your best. Get some rest," Bugsy said. He looked at Sora with a smile. "Not too shabby, Sora. Using my own attack against me wasn't something I would expect in a million years. And that's how long it'll take you to win your Gym Badge here," Bugsy said, taking out his next Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Beedrill!" His Pokéball opens and lets out a Beedrill. It looks ready to sting.
"I wonder if Beedrill knows Electroweb like Butterfree does," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"I think we're going to find out, Kairi," Tracey said.
"Beedrill! Use Electroweb!" Bugsy ordered. Beedrill fired a thread of electricity at the Shiny Owl Pokémon just like Butterfree did.
"Okay, Noctowl! The same as last time! Confusion!" Sora ordered. Noctowl sends Electroweb back at Beedrill. Bugsy grinned when Sora tried it.
"Thought you'd try that again," Bugsy said. "Use Fury Cutter!" Beedrill's stingers glows light green and cuts the electrified web in half. Sora was stunned as well as Kairi, Tracey, Pikachu, Angel, and Togepi. "Thought you had me there, didn't you? Think again. There's no way I would ever fall for the same trick twice in a row. You'll have to rethink your strategy."
"Bugsy's right. Noctowl would just use Confusion to block Electroweb, but Beedrill's Fury Cutter will just cut that plan in half. I'll have to send Gligar back out to deal with that Beedrill because Electroweb won't even touch him," Sora said in his thoughts. He calls Noctowl back and he took out Gligar's Pokéball and threw it. He called out, "Gligar! Back to action!" Gligar came back out to battle again.
"Sora's Gligar back out. Smart move because Electroweb won't affect Gligar," Kairi said.
"True, but Beedrill is a force to be reckoned with. Gligar is a fast Pokémon, but he'll have to rely on more than speed to win this battle," Tracey said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"So, Gligar's come back to play. Wonder if your Gligar's learned its lesson after taking on Butterfree," Bugsy said.
"You'll have to find out, Bugsy," Sora said.
"I know I will. Beedrill! Use Fury Cutter!" Bugsy ordered. Beedrill came at Gligar with its stingers giving off a light green glow.
"That's going to be a problem for Gligar if that hits. Damage from Fury Cutter doubles when it hits!" Tracey said.
"Dodge with Quick Attack!" Sora ordered. Gligar manages to dodge Beedrill's attack. "Move in with Wing Attack!" Gligar came at Beedrill with Wing Attack.
"Dodge and use Twineedle!" Bugsy ordered. Beedrill dodges Gligar's Wing Attack. Beedrill's stingers glow bright blue and it charges towards Gligar with them.
"Gligar, dodge it!" Sora called out. Gligar tried to dodge, but the Poison Bee Pokémon came too fast for Gligar to dodge it. Gligar fell to the ground.
"That's great, Beedrill! Finish Gligar off with Twineedle!" Bugsy ordered. Beedrill flew right at the Fly Scorpion Pokémon with its stingers glowing light blue again.
"Gligar! Use X-Scissor!" Sora ordered. Gligar came at Beedrill and gave the Poison Bee Pokémon an X-Scissor across the chest. Beedrill has taken a lot of damage and goes down. Beedrill tried to get back up, but fell back down, beaten.
"Beedrill is unable to battle! Gligar wins!" The referee announced.
"Way to go, Gligar! You really came through!" Sora said.
"Gli, Gligar!" Gligar said. He slashed through the air and then his pincer emits a dark purple aura and slashed the air.
"Look at that. Gligar just learned to use Night Slash," Kairi said.
"That battle with Beedrill must have done the trick. Now Bugsy's down to his third Pokémon. I wonder what he's got up his sleeve," Tracey said, stroking his chin. Bugsy calls back his Beedrill and smiled.
"Awesome job as always, Beedrill. You earned yourself a good rest," Bugsy said. He looked at Sora. "I can see why you're a Pokémon League Champion, Sora. The way you battled is all the proof I need. But even you won't stand a chance against my third Pokémon. And it's also my strongest Pokémon." He took out his third Pokéball and threw it. "Time to come on out, Scyther!" His Pokéball opened and a Scyther emerged from inside. The Mantis Pokémon goes in a stance.
"Scyther!" Scyther said.
"Bugsy was saving that Scyther for last. Judging how that Scyther looks, I don't doubt how strong that Scyther looks," Tracey said.
"You're right, Tracey. He looks like he has been through more than his fair share of battles," Kairi said.
"You still good to go, Gligar?" Sora asked.
"Gligar, Gli!" Gligar answered.
"Thought so!" Sora said.
"Don't get overconfident. My Scyther isn't going to go down so easily," Bugsy said.
"We'll have to do it the hard way," Sora said.
"You're welcome to try," Bugsy said. "Scyther! Start up with a Quick Attack!" Scyther moved towards Gligar with Quick Attack.
"You use Quick Attack too, Gligar!" Sora ordered. Gligar flew at Scyther with Quick Attack. Both Pokémon collide with each other, but Gligar has taken more damage than Scythed did. "Okay, Gligar! Use Night Slash!" Gligar came at Scyther with Night Slash.
"Dodge it, Scyther!" Bugsy called out. Scyther dodges Gligar's Night Slash. "Great! Now, use your own Night Slash!" Scyther's syches gave off the same dark purple aura and slashed at Gligar hard. Gligar has been taken down hard by Scyther's attack. Gligar was down and out.
"Gligar is unable to battle! Scyther wins!" The referee announced.
"Awesome job, Scyther!" Bugsy praised.
"Scyther!" Scyther said.
"Scyther's so much tougher than I thought he was," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"All he has left is Noctowl, and probably Cyndaquil since he's a Fire-type Pokémon. Which ones will he send out next?" Tracey asked. Sora called Gligar back inside his Pokéball and smiled.
"You battled hard, Gligar. You earned a good rest, buddy," Sora said. He took out his next Pokéball and threw it. "Noctowl! Back to action!" His Pokéball opened and Noctowl came out with a swirl of stars.
"Noctowl's back out to battle. Let's hope Noctowl can fare well against Scyther just like he did with Butterfree," Tracey said.
"Stay focused, Noctowl. That Scyther just took out Gligar, so you'll have to pick up where he left off," Sora said. Noctowl nodded.
"Okay, Scyther! Use Swords Dance!" Bugsy ordered. Scyther slashes its arms about and multiple light-blue swords circle around it. The swords stop and point towards Scyther, end first, before disappearing. A yellow aura then goes upwards along its body, boosting Scyther's attack power.
"Swords Dance boosts up the user's attack power, so Bugsy really wants to end this fast. I'll have to try harder than ever to take it down," Sora said. "Okay, Noctowl! Use Confusion!"
"Use Quick Attack!" Bugsy ordered. Scyther dashed at Noctowl and lands a hit before the Shiny Owl Pokémon could do anything. It was stronger than when he used it on Gligar. "Now, use Fury Cutter!" Scyther slashes at Noctowl, resulting in a knock out.
"Noctowl is unable to battle! Scyther wins!" The referee announced.
"Now both Sora and Bugsy are down to one Pokémon each. It's just about anybody's guess on whose victory it'll be," Tracey said. Kairi didn't say anything, but she had to have faith in her boyfriend. Sora calls back Noctowl and took out Cyndaquil's Pokéball and held it.
"You're my last hope. And I hope you'll pull through," Sora said taking out Cyndaquil's Pokéball. "Go for it, Cyndaquil!" Sora threw the Pokéball letting out Cyndaquil.
"Quil," Cyndaquil said in a yawn. They didn't doubt how tough Bugsy's Scyther is after wiping out Gligar and Noctowl like it was nothing.
Bugsy wasn't shaken by the fact Sora has sent out a Fire-type Pokémon to deal with his Scyther. But, he knew Sora was prepared for it.
"It's going to take more than a Fire-type Pokémon to scare off my Scyther!" Bugsy said.
"I don't plan to win by scaring Scyther off!" Sora countered.
"That's what I expected to hear! Scyther! Use Slash!" Bugsy ordered. Scyther moved in to slash at the fire mouse Pokémon.
"Cyndaquil! Dodge it quick!" Sora called out. Cyndaquil dodged Scyther's slashes. Cyndaquil kept dodging and dodging the attacks. "Cyndaquil! Hang in there!"
Hang in there, Cyndaquil," Kairi said in a whisper.
"Pika," Pikachu said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Toge," Togepi chirped.
Sora watched Scyther trying to slash at Cyndaquil and noticed the mantis Pokémon was backing him up towards a tree. That give him an idea.
"Cyndaquil! Keep dodging!" Sora called out. Cyndaquil did keep dodging Scyther's attacks. Bugsy was confused by what he just told Cyndaquil to do.
"What is he planning to do?" Bugsy asked confused.
"I think I see what's he trying to do. Sora is trying to lead Cyndaquil right into that tree," Tracey said.
"You're right, Tracey," Kairi said. "I knew Sora was going to bounce back when it got sticky."
"Has he always?" Tracey asked.
"He did. Whenever he got into a corner, he always pushes way back," Kairi said.
Scyther kept slashing at Cyndaquil until he was completely backed up against a tree. Sora knew what to do next. Scyther raised its scythe in the air. Scyther moved it to knock out Cyndaquil and then right at the last minute.
"NOW!" Sora called out. Cyndaquil moves out of the way before the scythe even hit him. Scyther's scythe was now stuck. "Now use Flamethrower!" Cyndaquil's back flared up and then fired Flamethrower and hits its mark on the Mantis Pokémon. Bugsy gasped at the sight.
"Scyther!" Bugsy called out. "Pull yourself out of the tree! Hurry!" Scyther tryed to pull out of the tree while being burned by Flamethrower. Scyther did manage to pull out and the Flamethrower hits the tree.
"Cease fire!" Sora told Cyndaquil since he didn't want to burn the place down.
"That was really a good move, Sora. You leading my Scyther into a trap like that was clever. But you still won't win this battle!" Bugsy said.
"Let's agree to disagree," Sora said. "Cyndaquil! Flamethrower again!" Cyndaquil fired Flamethrower again right at Scyther, but he saw that one coming.
"Scyther! Swords Dance!" Bugsy ordered. Scyther spun around cancelling out the Flamethrower attack.
"No way!" Sora exclaimed.
"There's more than one way to use Swords Dance. When challengers uses Fire-type Pokémon against my Scyther, he uses Swords Dance to block it," Bugsy said.
"Gotta think of a way to get pass Scyther's Swords Dance," Sora said in his thoughts. "But how?" Sora looked at Scyther still spinning around like a fan blowing any fire away before they could land a hit; and he figured if he can't do a direct attack on the ground, then he'll try one from up above. "Try Flamethrower again!"
"Bad move on your part, Sora! That is not going to work! Scyther! Keep using Swords Dance!" Bugsy ordered. Scyther did keep spinning.
"Cyndaquil! Jump above Scyther!" Sora called out. Cyndaquil jumps above the mantis Pokémon. "Now point your body straight down at Scyther!" Cyndaquil points down at the Mantis Pokémon while its still spinning. Kairi, Tracey, Pikachu, Angel, and Togepi, knew what was coming next.
"Oh no!" Bugsy gasped.
"Flamethrower now!" Sora called out. Cyndaquil fires Flamethrower right at his opponent covering it up with flames. Scyther stopped spinning around feeling dazed from the attack and dizzy from the spinning. "Finish it off with Tackle!" Cyndaquil lands one last Tackle on Scyther knocking it out.
"Scyther is unable to battle! Cyndaquil wins! The winner of the battle os the challenger, Sora Ketchum from Pallet Town!" The referee announced.
"Way to go, Cyndaquil!" Sora cheered.
"Pi, Pikachu!" Pikachu also cheered.
Kairi cheered for her boyfriend for his victory while Tracey shared her enthusiasm. Bugsy called back his fallen Scyther.
"You battled hard, Scyther. You deserve a good rest," Bugsy said. He walked over to Sora when he called back his Cyndaquil. "Congratulations for your win, Sora. It's no wonder you won the Indigo Plateau. There's no shame in losing to you."
"Thanks Bugsy. I've gotta admit you almost had me," Sora said.
"You battled hard against my bug team and gave me something to enjoy, so you deserved to win after that battle you gave me. So, to prove that you won, I'm giving you this." Bugsy pulls out a badge that looks like a ladybug's back if viewed from above. "It's known as the Hive Badge."
"Thanks Bugsy," Sora said accepting the badge from the young Gym Leader.
"No. Thank you for the enjoyable battle," Bugsy said. "I would like to challenge you to another battle someday; not as a Gym Leader, but as a Pokémon Trainer."
"You've got yourself a deal," Sora said, shaking Bugsy's hand.
"Just don't expect the results to be the same next time," Bugsy said.
"You won't be disappointed next time," Sora said. Sora, Kairi, Tracey, and the Pokémon took their leave of the Gym and hit the Pokémon Center before they headed to Kurt's house to check if he had figured anything out. They arrived to Kurt's house and he smiled.
"Hello, kids. I trust you won your second Gym Badge?" Kurt asked.
"Yeah. Bugsy gave me a real run for my money, but I managed to win the Hive Badge," Sora said.
"Well done, my boy," Kurt said. "But I can see you came to ask if I have found out the mystery of your GS Ball."
"Yeah, that's right," Sora said.
"Did you find out anything?" Kairi asked. Kurt only sighed.
"I'm afraid not. This is far too complicated even for me. But there is something about it. I am not exactly sure, but I think you should take it to the shrine in the Ilex Forest," Kurt said.
"The Ilex forest?" Sora asked.
"Yes. It's just outside of Azalea Town. I have a strange feeling that there is some kind of Pokémon inside of it," Kurt said.
"Could it be a new species of Pokémon? The likes of which no one has ever seen before?" Tracey asked.
"It's possible, but we should take it to the shrine and see for ourselves," Kairi said.
"Yeah, we can do that. You mind telling us how we can find the shrine, Kurt?" Sora asked. Kurt chuckled.
"I had a feeling you'd ask me that. It shouldn't be too hard to find. It's located near the entrance of the forest. The shrine is dedicated to the mythical Pokémon known as Celebi," Kurt said. Tracey gasped.
"Celebi? As in the Time Travel Pokémon?" Tracey asked.
"Yes. Also, before you go, I thought I should tell you that your next challenge lays ahead in Goldenrod City. The Ilex Forest is on the way," Kurt said.
"Goldenrod City, got it," Sora said. "And thanks for everything." Kurt smiled.
"No, Sora. Thank you for what you did for this town and the Slowpoke. Professor Oak has sent the right person for the task. I can see why he relies on you so much," Kurt said. Sora smiled.
With that said, Kurt and Maizie waved goodbye to Sora, Kairi, Tracey, Pikachu, Angel, and Togepi as they began to make their way towards Goldenrod City. First, they head for the Ilex Forest. When they got to the shrine, they found what they were told to find.
"This is it. The shrine Kurt told us about," Sora said.
"The shrine to Celebi," Tracey said.
"He did say that we place the GS Ball on the shrine, so let's see if something happens," Kairi said.
"He did. But I'm not sure if he knows what will happen," Tracey said.
"We might as well find out just by placing it on the shrine," Sora said. He took the GS Ball and he places it onto the shrine. Suddenly, it began to shake on its own. This surprises Sora, Kairi, Tracey, and the Pokémon greatly. Before any of them could ask what was happening, the GS Ball shatters into a million pieces as a light green light shines brightly. They all had to shield their eyes. When the light faded, they saw something incredible. It is a green, fairy-like Pokémon. It has round toeless feet, three-fingered hands, and clear wings on its back. It has a round head that comes to a curved point. It has large baby-blue eyes with thick black rings around them, and a pair of green antennae with blue tips.
"Is that what I think it is?" Tracey asked.
"What is it?" Sora asked.
"I think I know. It's Celebi," Kairi said with awe.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Toge," Togepi chirped.
Now that the GS Ball has finally opened, out from inside the GS Ball is the mythical Pokémon Celebi. It was an amazing thing to see. What will happen next?
