"Hi Professor its a pleasure to speak to you for the first time" I say bowing to the screen

On the large screen is the happy but imposing figure of Professor Oak. He looking slightly older than the texts books I had seen however he still wears his signature lab coat

"Its a pleasure to meet you to young man, I have heard lots about you" He roars back with a laugh

"Really?" I query slightly starstruck

"Of course! I regularly keep in contact with Ryan and he only had good things to say about you"

"Oh wow that's both scary and complimentary" I stammer

"Have confidence young man! You are doing fabulously. So what is the nature of your call today?"

"Oh yeah, um I'd like to swap out one of my Pokemon for the Dodrio I caught if I can please sir"

"Of course you may, are you intending to use it for your battle against Sabrina?"

"Yes sir! Its speed I think will be helpful"

"Good idea, and who will you be sending to me?"

"My Poliwrath, its got a weakness to Psychic types plus I'm going to use it against Blaine"

"Good choice, its always good to swap things around, lets initiate the trade then" He says grabbing the ball from the counter behind him

Pokeballs work differently in the modern time than they did in the past. In the past, Pokeballs had been coated in a pheromone which would spray out and cause the Pokemon in question to shrink down and fit inside a ball. With the prevalence of Silph Co rising alongside the Pokeball factory in the Kalos region a new technology was developed. On first capture the pheromone process is still done, however upon capture each ball embeds a small chip into each Pokemon, its a small pin prick and is barley felt. This chip registers a Pokemon to its trainer as each ball is too. This stop any other trainer catching Pokemon which did used to be a huge problem around 20 years ago. This chip would then allow for the Pokemon to roam and be remotely called to its ball. Generally trainer keep their Pokemon in the smaller version in the balls however its common place in Alola for the Pokemon to be kept on Pelago islands and then called upon via the chip.

We both place the ball in the transported and they flash being transported. Dodrio ball touches down which I grab as Oak collects Poliwrath's ball. I thank the professor before heading off towards Sabrina gym. Joe had dropped me off on the outskirts of town before heading off, he had wished me luck alongside his crew, he had also said that when I had entered the junior championship that I was welcome to join his crew which I turned down for now. I quickly headed up towards the gym, I head up the road before I spot another trainer sprinting away from the gym clutching a Flareon

"Don't worry I'll get you to the centre asap" She says as she rushes away

"Wow, was that Sabrinas doing?" I question to myself

I look towards the gym and take a deep breath before walking up to it, I push the doors open, theres a small reception desk in which a gentleman accompanied by a Drowzee sits

"Hello trainer, are you Dustin?" He questions

"Oh uh yeah, wow how did you know? Are you psychic?" I question slightly flustered

"No kid, your just the last trainer of the day" He says with a laugh as he ticks my name off

"Give Sabrina 5 minutes and then make your way onto the field, Sabrina only battles when there's no spectators so I hope that's okay with you"

"Of course" I spit back before making my way through the entrance, I walk up through the hallway. In this battle I can only use four Pokemon and I had quickly decided on who, Dodrio, Starmie, Ninetales and Venusaur. I wait at the opening to the battlefield, eventually the doors slowly open up to the battle field. I look across and see the imposing figure of Sabrina on the other side, she stands silently looking out at me as her Pokeballs circle around her flowing with psychic energy.

"Welcome challenger" She says coldly as I gulp and walk to the box on the opposite side of the field

"You seem nervous, it is natural do not worry. Many challengers find that this is there final road block that ends their challenge

"Well we won't!" I shout grabbing Dodrio ball from my belt

I throw it out and the three headed bird emerges and squawks at Sabrina

"Mr Mime" She says coldly as one of the floating balls stops and bursts open

The pink human like Pokemon emerges and silently mimes away at a fake wall

"Drill Peck!"

Dodrio rushes in with their beaks all spinning

"Reflect"

Mr Mime summons a bight yellow wall which Dodrio slams into causing minimal damaged to Mr Mime

"Dazzling Gleam"

Mr Mime summons a deluge of pink shards and fires it off at Dodrio, the shards cut and swipe causing it to be pushes back

"Drill Peck again!"

Dodrio pulls itself up and rushes in but the reflect bears the hit

"Steel Wing!"

Dodrio wings glow and it spins hitting Mr Mime with its wings causing Mr Mime to be pushed backwards

"Psychic"

Mr Mime fingertips glow blue before firing off a beam of energy, it slams Dodrio who is flung backward into the wall, it slumps down unable to go one

"Dodrio!" I shout before rushing up to it

It squawks before falling unconscious, I return it to its ball before moving back to my box

"Mr Mime return"

Mr Mime is called back and another ball pops open revealing her Slowbro, it turns it head vacantly at me before giving a wide smile

I gulp and pull up another ball throwing it out

The hulking figure of Venusaur emerges and roars

"Slowbro, Ice Beam"

Slowbro swivels and fires of a huge blue beam of energy freezing Venusaur solid in its spot

"Venusaur!" I shout as it stuck down to the ground

"Shadow Ball"

Slowbro summons a huge ball of dark energy and fires it off which connects directly head on with Venusaur, cracking the ice throwing Venusaur to her back unable to continue. I run out as Venusaur flops to her stomach

"Are you okay?"

She croaks as she goes unconscious again, I return her to her ball feeling a swelling of nerves in my chest

"I can sense your nerves"

I look up and see the darting eyes of Sabrina who has recalled Slowbro

"Is your challenge about to be over too"

I gulp and clench my fist before grabbing another ball

"We're not done yet!" I shout throwing out Ninetales

She touches down deftly and calls out

"Alakazam"

The huge psychic type emerges

"Ninetales, use Flamethrower!" Ninetales opens its mouth wide, releasing a powerful stream of scorching flames towards Alakazam. The intense fire engulfs the area, creating a blazing spectacle.

"Alakazam, dodge and counter with Psychic!"

Alakazam swiftly dodges the oncoming flames, utilizing its psychic abilities to levitate away from danger. Concentrating its energy, Alakazam generates a powerful psychic force, aiming to strike back at Ninetales.

"Ninetales, use Quick Attack!"

Ninetales surrounds itself with a white light and dashes around the field, at time Ninetales appears as multiple places, confusing Alakazam who dart it head around trying to find her.

"Alakazam, use Psychic to locate the real one!"

Alakazam focuses its elf, searching through the illusionary copies to identify the genuine Ninetales. With precision, Alakazam locks onto the correct target and prepares to strike.

"Ninetales, it's time for our new move! Use Solar Beam!"

Ninetales gathers energy from the sunlight, absorbing it through its tails. The energy intensifies, forming a concentrated beam of solar power. With a dazzling display, Ninetales unleashes the Solar Beam towards Alakazam.

"Alakazam, dodge quickly and retaliate with Shadow Ball!"

Alakazam skilfully evades the Solar Beam. It retaliates by summoning a swirling, dark energy sphere. With precise control, Alakazam hurls the Shadow Ball towards Ninetales.

"Ninetales, use Quick Attack to avoid the Shadow Ball"

Ninetales dashes forward at an incredible speed, using Quick Attack to evade the incoming Shadow Ball. Ninetales closes the gap between itself and Alakazam, ready to deliver a powerful strike.

"Alakazam, defend yourself with Protect!"

Alakazam quickly forms a protective barrier around itself, guarding against Ninetales' incoming attack. The Quick Attack collides with the shield, causing a bright flash of energy.

"Ninetales, don't give up! Use Flamethrower now!"

As the Protect barrier fades, Ninetales seizes the opportunity. It unleashes a massive Flamethrower, sending forth a massive fireball engulfed in intense heat and flames.

"Alakazam, dodge once more and counter with Psychic!"

Alakazam attempts to swiftly evades the incoming Flamethrower, however it is engulfed. It retaliates with a powerful Psychic attack, directing a surge of psychic energy towards Ninetales.

"Ninetales, use your tails and Extrasensory to send it back!"

Ninetales utilizes the unique properties of its nine tails, manipulating them to form a reflective barrier. The Psychic attack from Alakazam rebounds off the barrier, redirecting the energy back towards Alakazam. It slams into Alakazam sending it skidding to the floor on its back unable to go on

"Great work Nine!" I shout as she continues to stare down Sabrina

"Better, Slowbro go" Sabrina says calmly as Slowbro is summoned to the field

"Ninetales, let's show them our fiery spirit!"

The battle commences as Ninetales take a more aggressive stance on the battlefield.

"Ninetales, start with Flamethrower attack!"

Ninetales opens its mouth wide, releasing a fierce stream of scorching flames towards Slowbro. The intense fire races towards its target, engulfing the area in heat.

"Slowbro, use Withdraw to protect yourself!"

Slowbro reacts quickly, retreating into its sturdy shell to defend against Ninetales' Flamethrower attack. The flames wash over the protective shell, leaving Slowbro singed but largely unharmed.

"Ninetales, don't let up! Follow up with Extrasensory!"

Ninetales conjures a beam of bright purple energy, launching it towards Slowbro. It shoots through the air with incredible speed and accuracy.

"Slowbro, unleash your Psychic and reflect it back"

Slowbro's eyes glow with psychic energy as it generates a wave of psychic force. It crackles and then stops heading back towards Ninetales

"Ninetales, evade with Quick Attack!"

Ninetales taps into its speed and agility, gracefully darting away from the redirected attack. Its nimble movements allow it to dodge but also maintain its position.

"Slowbro, Surf!"

Slowbro focuses its energy and summons a massive wave, crashing down upon the battlefield. The immense water surge rushes towards Ninetales, aiming to drench and overwhelm it.

"Ninetales, jump and use Flamethrower!"

Ninetales swiftly jumps up and blast the water with its fire causing the water to evaporate and create a steam cloak across the field

"Slowbro, anticipate its next move and use Psychic!"

Slowbro concentrates its psychic powers, sensing Ninetales' position

"Ninetales, now! Emerge and strike with a powerful Solar Beam!"

Ninetales bursts into sight, fully charged with solar energy. It unleashes a brilliant beam of concentrated sunlight, directly towards Slowbro. Slowbro teeters as it is pummelled by the strong blast

"Ninetales, let's finish this! Quick Attack!"

Ninetales, fuelled by its determination, accelerates towards Slowbro with astonishing speed, empowered by its Quick Attack. It slams into its midriff causing it to hit the back wall unable to go on

"You did it!" I shout running out to pat her

She stays in her battle position panting heavily but take my congratulations

Sabrina silently returns her Slowbro and send out her Mr Mime

"Psychic"

Mr Mime fingertips glow blue again as Ninetails is lifted into the air and slammed unceremoniously back down into the ground, the dust that's kicked up eventually settles showing Ninetales is unable to go on

"No we had just gotten back even" I think to myself as I return her

I take a deep breath and grab the last ball

"All on you now!" I shout out throwing Starmie into the field

Its balls burst open and it spin as an entrance shining brightly

"Starmie, begin with a Hydro Pump attack!"

Starmie channels water energy and releases a powerful jet of water, Hydro Pump, towards Mr. Mime. The high-pressure water surges towards its target, aiming to strike with force.

"Mr. Mime, use Light Screen to protect yourself!"

Mr. Mime creates a shimmering barrier, forming a protective Light Screen in front of itself. The barrier mitigates the force of Starmie's Hydro Pump, reducing the impact.

"Starmie, follow up with a Swift attack!" Starmie releases a flurry of stars, Swift, towards Mr. Mime. The stars move with incredible speed and accuracy, targeting Mr. Mime with relentless precision.

"Mr. Mime, use Reflect!"

Mr. Mime conjures a reflective barrier, creating a powerful Reflect to bolster its defences. The barrier lessens the damage from Starmie's Swift attack, reducing its effectiveness.

"Starmie, let's try a different approach! Use Flash Cannon!"

Starmie gathers energy, forming a concentrated beam of light, between its central core. The beam pulsates with power, ready to be unleashed.

"Mr. Mime, dodge the attack and counter with Psychic!"

Mr. Mime swiftly evades the oncoming Flash Cannon. It then focuses its psychic abilities, generating a powerful Psychic attack directed towards Starmie.

"Starmie, use Recover to restore your energy!"

Starmie harnesses its inner healing powers, recovering its vitality and restoring its energy reserves. The healing process revitalized Starmie, readying it for the next phase of the battle.

"Mr. Mime, keep up the pressure! Follow with a Psychic attack!"

Mr. Mime releases a dazzling beam of psychic energy, aiming to confuse Starmie with its bewildering effects.

"Starmie, use your speed to dodge!"

Starmie swiftly manoeuvrers through the air, using its natural speed and agility to dodge the attack.

"Now, Starmie, strike back with a powerful Flash Cannon!"

Starmie channels its energy once more, unleashing the stored power of Flash Cannon. The beam of intense light surges towards Mr. Mime with heightened intensity and force.

"Mr. Mime, dodge it with Double Team!"

Mr. Mime creates multiple illusory copies of itself, confusing Starmie and making it difficult to determine the real Pokémon. The Flash Cannon disperses amongst the duplicates, unable to find its true target.

"Starmie, don't give up! Use Swift to hit the real Mr. Mime!"

Starmie unleashes another flurry of stars, towards the duplicates, aiming to locate and strike the real Mr. Mime amidst the confusion. Starmie finds its target and connects with the real Mr. Mime.

"Mr. Mime!"

The impact of the Swift attack breaks through the Double Team, leaving Mr. Mime vulnerable to Starmie's assault. She quickly summons a Flash Cannon which engulfs Mr Mime, leaving it singed and on its back unable to go on

"Way to go Starmie!" I shout out as it simmer and flashes its core in happiness

"Congratulations, not many get to my last Pokemon" Sabrina whispers out

"Save the congratulations for when you giving me the badge" I shout out with a smile

She chuckles before sending her last ball forward summoning her Jynx

"Starmie, Hydro Pump!"

Starmie releases a powerful stream of pressurized water, towards Jynx. The torrent of water rushes towards its target, aiming to strike with speed and force.

"Jynx, use your agility to evade and counter with Ice Beam!"

Jynx gracefully dodges the oncoming attack. It retaliates by unleashing a frigid Ice Beam, propelling a beam of freezing energy towards Starmie.

"Starmie, use your Flash Cannon to block it!"

Starmie focuses its energy, creating a beam which collides with the Ice Beam shielding itself

"Jynx, confuse them with a Psywave attack!"

Jynx releases a wave of psychic energy, Psywave, towards Starmie. The wave fluctuates in strength and confuses the target, potentially disrupting Starmie's concentration.

"Starmie, stay focused! Use Swift to strike back!" Starmie summons a powerful surge of stars, channelling it towards Jynx. The huge swarm of stars streak through the air, aiming to connect with Jynx.

"Jynx, protect yourself with a Light Screen!" Jynx creates a protective Light Screen, forming a barrier to reduce the damage. The screen absorbs some of the stars, lessening its impact.

"Starmie, full power!"

"Jynx, evade the attack!"

Jynx gracefully sidesteps and manoeuvrers through the air, utilizing its agility to avoid the incoming stars.

"Starmie, don't give up! Use Recover to restore your energy!"

Starmie taps into its inner healing powers, recovering its energy and restoring its vitality once more

"Jynx, maintain your composure and unleash a Blizzard attack!"

Jynx gathers a frigid cold energy, summoning a powerful Blizzard. The freezing wind and snowstorm engulf the battlefield, aiming to freeze Starmie in its tracks.

"Starmie, use Flash Cannon to break through the Blizzard!"

Starmie begins to spin rapidly, generating a powerful vortex and fires it white beam of energy off. The spinning motion helps Starmie break through the chilling winds of the Blizzard.

"Now, strike with a Flash Cannon directly!"

Starmie focuses its energy to stop itself spinning, generating a concentrated beam of light. The beam pulsates with power as it surges towards Jynx, ready to hit its mark. It slams into the front of Jynx sending it flying back

"Starmie, Use Hydro Pump!"

Starmie unleashes a massive torrent of water. The high-pressure water crashes into Jynx. The ice type is flung backward to its back, it rolls to its front to try and pull itself up but stumbles and falls back down unable to go on

"Jynx!"

The big screen displays Jynx as unable to go on and myself as the winner, I sprint out to Starmie and wrap my arms around it

"You were amazing Starmie! Absolutely incredible!" I call out almost trying to hold back tears

"Congratulations young man"

I look up to see Sabrina who has now moved silently to in front of me

I pull myself off Starmie and dust myself down before shaking her hand

"It was all my Pokemon effort really but thank you" I say happily

"You have raised them well, any other trainer would have lost in the moment that their starter Pokemon was defeated but you kept going and that is more than commendable" She says before handing me her badge

"Thank you" I say taking before crouching down to Starmies level

"Look Star! This means we only need two more"

"You will go far young man, trust your judgement and it will see you through" Sabrina says calmly to me

"Thank you Miss Sabrina"
