Chapter Two-hundred and eighteen: Big League Wishes
Ash, Serena, and the reborn trainers were on a boat heading to Ula'ula Island, where they got it the next grand trial in the Island Challenge would be located. It was also where the third Contest Hall for Alola region Pokémon Contests was located, so Serena was going along to learn more to help her get ready for the Contests that could be held there. "So Professor Kukui is part of the effort to establish Alola's Pokémon League," Ash said, "Pretty amazing stuff, guy guys."
"Yeah, but how would a Pokémon League in Alola work?" Kenny asked, "Shouldn't there be eight gyms in the region for one to challenge and earn badges from before one is qualified to enter the League conference for a shot at becoming Champion?"
Shrugging, Dawn said, "Alola does things differently than other regions. I think it'll figure something out."
"And there is how Professor Kukui asked us and the rest of our class to help make the dream he has there a reality," Trip remarked. Clenching a fist, Trip said, "I don't know how the rest of you feel, but I wanna try and get a win in against Ash here in a league conference setting."
"Get in line, muchacho," Kenny said, "It starts behind me."
Serena couldn't help but giggle in sincere amusement. "Wow, you guys must really value Ash if he's the main opponent you guys wanna face in a league conference."
"Well Ash has cemented himself as something of a standard for others to try and reach," Dawn remarked, "He's a pretty inspirational person. That said." Turning to look at Ash, Dawn went on, "How do you feel about getting to compete in what will be Alola's first Pokémon League conference?"
Smiling in amusement, Ash said, "I'm always excited to compete, but knowing there are strong challengers looking to face me specifically has me all the more excited! I'm always down for a good fight!" Within short order, the heroes soon arrived at Ula'ula Island, got off the boat, and went into the main city on the island, that being Malie City, to ask around to get an idea of the layout of Ula'ula Island.
Meanwhile, Nanu the Island Kahuna for Ula'ula Island was walking towards the police station near Po Town when he was met up by an Officer Jenny. Seeing the firm, serious look on Jenny's face that made it clear she would broker no arguments or attempts to deflect anything, Nanu resigned himself to another check-up. "And what is it this time, Jenny?" Nanu asked, sounding tired as he took out and played with a kendama while he let Jenny lecture him.
"I hope you weren't planning to take a nap, Nanu," Jenny said in a firm tone, letting him play with the kendama partly to save drama, "Especially as you're still on thin ice given that the inter-regional investigation that Interpol did revealed that you had a friendly personal connection with the late leader of the now defunct Team Rocket. I hope that you realize that you're still the Kahuna of Ula'Ula Island only because Tapu Bulu had so graciously made it clear it desires no change in your position, despite how the revelation of your friendship with the late Giovanni had seriously damaged your worthiness of being a Kahuna."
Nanu stopped playing with his kendama when the ball landed on the spike with the spike going into the hole on the ball. "...Those guys in Interpol really are through, aren't they?"
Jenny, putting her hands on her hips, said, "Team Rocket was a seriously threatening criminal organization that had assets in multiple regions. You didn't think that the regions of the world would just stand by and let Team Rocket go about as they pleased?" Folding her arms over her chest, Jenny went on, "And now the regions of the world, with Team Rocket wholly done away with for good, can now focus on the other big name threat."
Arching a wry eyebrow, Nanu said, "You mean Team Scorn."
Jenny nodded once in the affirmative. "Team Scorn is already taking action here in Alola, what with how they're going after the Ride Pokémon system and trying to take the Totem Pokémon used in trials in the Island Challenge. I even got it from the chief that Aether Foundation claims that Team Scorn is trying to mess with something of top secret importance that could threaten all of Alola."
Nanu cringed visibly a little bit. "Yeesh, it'd be bad if those troublemakers take any of the Totem Pokémon." Looking to Officer Jenny as he proceeded to start playing with his kendama again, Nanu asked, "I take it you're here to let me know that there is some service that I can do in light of me being exposed as a sympathizer of the now defunct Team Rocket?"
Nodding once, Jenny said, "Some trial goers just got to Ula'ula Island. As such, they'll eventually have to battle you for the Ula'Ula Island grand trial. Helping them get stronger will help Alola deal with the Team Scorn threat. That being said, when they come to issue challenges, don't try to deny you're the Kahuna, don't do any of your usual mind games to psyche them out, no forcing them to use one Pokémon against your three. Be straight up, honest, and fight fair."
"...There's something special about these trial goers, huh?" Nanu asked, "Are they like that Ideku Badorigo boy who whumped me in a Grand Trial yesterday?"
Looking to Nanu, Jenny said, "The four trial goers are some of the heroic trainers who helped to bring about the wholesale downfall of Team Rocket. Also, you better not show any grudge against them. Also, none of that funny business with being a trickster mentor or sink and swim mentor type, they don't need that."
"You're basically not letting me be... you know, me," Nanu said, arching a wry eyebrow.
"Given you were revealed to have had a personal in with the late Giovanni, who led Team Rocket, you more or less have to be kept on a tight leash," Jenny replied, clearly showing Nanu no sympathy, "Interpol is STILL clearing up some investigations into the activities of Team Rocket despite how the organization had been wholly taken down for good. Not only that, but Team Scorn is still a threat, so that requires attention. And you still are a Kahuna, despite how you've proven to be unworthy of the position. As a Kahuna, you HAVE to be a good role model, which means you HAVE to be honest and fair." Before she turned around and left, Jenny said, "The trial goers are in Malie City, I think I heard that they were at the local library. It would be good of you to go greet them, tell them you're the Kahuna, and be ready for their challenges to the Grand Trial."
Without another word, Jenny took off. Nanu after Jenny left scowled more out of annoyance. "...The reason Tapu Bulu is letting me remain the Kahuna of Ula'ula Island is because it's too lazy to bother with wanting change," Nanu muttered to himself.
...
Over in the library in Malie City, Ash, Serena, and the reborn trainers were led around by Acerola and her actual ghost Mimikyu, Mimikins. "...Seeing Acerola's Mimikyu reminds me that Ash also caught one," Kenny said, "And both Ash and Acerola having a Mimikyu reminds me that I wanna catch a Mimikyu for myself."
"Ooh, you can never go wrong with a Mimikyu," Acerola said.
Looking to Kenny, Serena asked, "Kenny, why do you want a Mimikyu?"
"Don't you remember how Mimikyu are said to be chill dudes who only wanna hang with friends?" Kenny said, "I bet that an instant friend like a Mimikyu would be a perfect fit into the cringe posse!"
As the heroes were led around by Acerola, Ash's Poipole flew around only to stop on a book that was left open on a table. The book was open to a page depicting Ultra Necrozma, with Solgaleo on one side and Lunala on the other. "Ah yes, the legend of the Blinding One," Acerola said when she saw the page that Ash's Poipole was looking at, "A Pokémon said to shine brighter than anything else in the world."
"You know, Zarbon was the Blinding One a few days ago," Kenny said, "Cell accidentally walked in on him showering and was blinded for a bit." Trip smacked Kenny in the back of the head.
Gesturing to the book, Acerola said, "Back when the Alola region was first formed, everything was dark. Then three legendary Pokémon showed up and showered all that there was in light, earning them the gratitude of the people of Alola. They dubbed one of the light-bringers as the 'Blinding One', and have passed the story down through the generations." Turning to the heroes, Acerola said, "Uncle Nanu believes that the Blinding One may be an Ultra Beast, like those things you and your friends in the Ultra Guardians deal with."
Ash had a bit of an unamused look on his face. "...Yeah, I'm not too sure about Nanu, given we were told he had a personal connection to the boss of Team Rocket."
"Yeah, kind of a shocker that we were told that by an Officer Jenny upon our arrival here to Ula'Ula Island," Trip remarked.
"Uncle Nanu didn't actually do much bad stuff, he and the Rocket boss were just buddies more or less," Acerola said, "Although I was still shocked to hear that Uncle Nanu was friends with a big bad guy."
"Didn't stop me from busting his chops every now and then," Nanu called out as he made his way over to the group, getting their attention in the process, "And to Giovanni's credit he respected me enough to take me ribbing him in stride."
Serena gave a suspicious look to Nanu. "...So you're the Kahuna of Ula'ula Island."
"And you don't look like a trial goer," Nanu said to Serena.
"Ooh, she's here to learn more about the Contest Hall, Uncle Nanu," Acerola said, "She's a Coordinator, not a trial goer."
Sighing, Nanu said, "I guess that means I'll have to judge her as, being the Kahuna of Ula'ula Island, I'm slated as a judge for Contests held on ula'Ula Island. I have little if any idea how Contests work, though, so I'll probably pass you if you're impressive enough to keep me from falling asleep."
"Ooh, ooh, I love watching Contests!" Acerola said, "I can teach you what all I know about them Uncle Nanu!"
"Or I can call out sick on contest days and have you take my place as a judge," Nanu remarked.
Gesturing to Nanu and Acerola, Kenny asked, "Is Nanu really your uncle, Acerola?"
Gently shaking her head, Acerola said, "No, not really. It's more like a way to express family-like affection to a trusted role model. It's something of an Alolan custom."
Looking to the trainers what would be seeking to challenge him to Grand Trials, Nanu said, "I was told that I have to run the Grand Trials you would be having against me fairly, that I had to follow certain rules that, as someone specializing in dark Pokémon, goes against the norm for us."
"He has to be open, upfront, honest, and fair," Acerola translated to the heroes.
Folding her arms over her chest, Serena said, "You know Nanu, Kenny had filled me in on this one boy living in the Sinnoh region who Dawn had mentored, and said boy eventually became a new gym leader. He specializes in dark type Pokémon but uses none of the trickery commonly associated with the dark type, but is still proving to be an accomplished and successful gym leader."
Nodding once, Dawn said, "At most, the only 'trickery' that Michael's Pokémon uses is his Honchkrow using Thunder Wave. But that's beside the point." After things were settled, Nanu asked how things will work for the heroes to challenge him to the Grand Trial. Remembering from her previous life how Ash needed to get his Lycanroc trained to overcome its pissiness over getting dirty, Dawn said that it'll be her first, then Kenny, then Trip, then lastly Ash for their respective first tries, and those who failed will have to wait until the cycle repeats if necessary.
The group made their way to where Nanu had his battles in those challenging him to Grand Trials. "Under normal circumstances," Nanu said, "Challengers would only be allowed to use one Pokémon against the three that I'll use, so as to teach others how to deal with unfair situations. But due to varying circumstances, I'm being forced to fight fair, so it'll be a three on three affair. One Pokémon at a time each, you can switch out at any time while I have to wait to switch out until a Pokémon of mine goes down, and last one with any Pokémon left at the end of the battle wins."
"And I'll be the ref!" Acerola cheered as she raised a hand, running over to take a place on the side of the battle grounds to serve as the referee. Nanu rolled his eyes at this, suggesting it was an act purely of Acerola's own want and doing.
Tossing up a Poké Ball, Nanu said, "Go, Krookodile!"
"Alright, Leni!" Dawn said as she sent out her named Lucario, "Let's get goin'!"
As the two Pokémon came out to battle, Nanu smirked a bit in amusement when he saw Leni flinch back out of fright. "Yeah, that'll be Krookodile's Intimidate ability kicking in to lower your Lucario's physical attack," Nanu said.
"Well then, it's a good thing Leni doesn't make use of her physical attack anyway," Dawn replied as she held up her wrist that her Z-Ring wasn't on to hold up her Mega Ring and tap the Key Stone on it to trigger Leni's Mega Evolution into Mega Lucario.
Nanu's eyes widened a bit out of surprise. "So you got Mega Evolution as well, huh?" Gesturing forward, Nanu said, "Krookodile, use Mud Slap!"
"Leni, use Aura Sphere!" Dawn called out.
The two Pokémon cast their attacks at one another, but the named Mega Lucario's Aura Sphere blasted through the Mud Slap before the Mud Slap even had a chance to get to the halfway point of reaching Leni. The Aura Sphere went on to blast right into Krookodile, making it cry out in pain as it was thrown back, skidding along on the ground for a bit until it came to a stop, where it was clear it had been knocked out. "Krookodile is unable to battle!" Acerola called out, "The winner is Leni!"
Turning to look at Acerola, Dawn remarked, "It's rare for a referee to refer to one of my Pokémon by its nickname. They usually use my Pokémon's species name."
"It has to do with how her own Pokémon have nicknames," Nanu explained as he recalled his defeated Krookodile, "Acerola did the same deal when I was defeated in a Grand Trial battle by some kid named Ideku, using something he named Cupidos to sweep my entire team."
"So Ideku already cleared the Grand Trial of Ula'ula Island," Dawn said.
Nanu nodded once in the affirmative. "I got it he also cleared the Grand Trials for Melemele and Akala Islands. But that's not here nor there." Tossing up another Poké Ball, Nanu said, "Go, Sabeleye!" After Sableye came out, Nanu said, "Sabeleye, use Shadow Ball!"
"Leni, use Flash Cannon!" Dawn ordered.
The two Pokémon conjured and cast their attacks at one another, but Flash Cannon burst through Shadow Ball and went on to blast right into Sableye, leading to Leni defeating Sabeleye much like how she had previously defeated Krookodile. "Sableye is unable to battle!" Acerola announced, "The winner is Leni!"
Nanu recalled his fainted Sabeleye and sent out his last Pokémon, an Alolan Persian that was bigger than normal, almost being Totem sized. But even with using the dark type Z-Move Black Hole Eclipse, Persian was still defeated by Dawn's named Mega Lucario, leading to Nanu being defeated in the Grand Trial and putting Dawn three fourths of the way towards completing the Island Challenge. She ended up being given a Darkinium Z crystal. "My Pokémon will need time to rest before we can take on another challenge," Nanu said, "I'll be ready by six this evening." Nanu then wished the heroes luck and took off.
Turning to look at the heroes, Acerola said, "Uncle Nanu's just a little grumpy that he's being forced to do his Kahuna duties and that he has to do them by strict guidelines given to him. He'd normally do things his own way."
"Why is a man like that the Kahuna of Ula'ula Island anyway?" Serena asked.
Shrugging, Acerola said, "Maybe because the island deity of Ula'ula Island, Tapu Bulu, sees a lot of itself in Uncle Nanu."
"Tapu Bulu, you say?" Ash remarked, his interest piqued.
...
Acerola eventually led the heroes to where Tapu Bulu was lounging around. Looking around the area, Ash decided that it was a good place to train for the upcoming battles against Nanu, so getting to training is what the heroes did. During the training, Ash worked on getting his Lycanroc to drop its annoyance with getting its fur all messed up. By the time Kenny's battle with Nanu rolled around, some progress had been made, although Ash was wanting to work on things a bit more with Lycanroc, just to be on the safe side.
Then the battle between Kenny and Nanu took place, where Kenny won using his named Politoed Kermit to take down Krookodile, then his named Machamp Zarbon took out Sabeleye and Persian, defeating the Persian with the fighting type Z-Move All Out Pummeling. Nanu then said he had to rest his Pokémon for the night, and could take the next challenge in the morning. This allowed the heroes to relax for the rest of the day, although they spent the down time learning more about the legend of the Blinding One over at the Malie City library,
The following morning saw Trip take on Nanu, defeating him using his named Togekiss Gypsy Danger to super effective hit all of Nanu's dark Pokémon with fairy attacks. After that more time was spent training, during which Ash worked out the last of his Lycanroc's displeasure with being dirtied. Although Lycanroc had fully gotten over itself, Ash still wanted to be safe and use a different strategy, where Greninja took out Krookodile, Mimikyu took out Sabeleye, and then Greninja was sent back out to take down Persian, netting Ash the win against Nanu on his first try.
Although Nanu lost to all of the heroes, he didn't begrudge it, however with an amused smirk on his face he gave Ash a Lycanium Z crystal to use with his Lycanroc, as opposed to the Darkinium Z crystals that the reborn trainers all got. After Ash cleared the Grand Trial, he and the rest of the group were met up by someone saying that there was a commotion down at the abandoned Thrifty Megamart site, sending Ash and the others down in that direction to investigate what in blazes was going on, with Nanu saying he had a bad feeling about it and saying if it came to a battle, the kids would have to handle it as all of his Pokémon are wiped.
When the heroes got there, they saw that a number of Team Scorn members, led by Captain Sayaka and her Captain's Assistant Satomi, were trying to wrangle a Totem Mimikyu. Leading the charge surprisingly enough was Kenny, screaming, "How dare you try to bring your discount dastardly deed doing down upon a Mimikyu!" as he charged in at Team Scorn. Although all of the heroes took part in fending off Team Scorn and sending them packing with nothing to show for their efforts, Kenny still had a bone to pick with Team Scorn surprisingly enough.
After Team Scorn was defeated and sent packing, Kenny turned to the Totem Mimikyu. "You are safe now, good Mimikyu," Kenny said, "There is no greater sin than to try to reign evil down upon those who wish only to be with and have fri-" Kenny was cut off when the Totem Mimikyu handed something to him; it was a Ghostium Z crystal. It proceeded to give one Ghostium Z crystal to Ash, Dawn, and Trip. The totem Mimikyu almost gave one to Serena but stopped short upon seeing she lacked a Z-Ring, so it instead gave her a metallic hair clip that was golden-bronze, and inlaid in the grip with various faux-gems.
Outside of the abandoned Thrifty Megamart, Nanu gathered all of the heroes. "As annoyed as I am with how Officer Jenny is making me fly right," Nanu said, "The fact that Team Scorn is chasing after the Totem Pokémon is something I would get riled up over naturally anyway. It would irk me to no end if any of them fell into the hands of Team Scorn. I'm gonna call that same Officer Jenny up and tell her what took place here, then look into arranging a get together with the other Kahunas to think up a plan to protect the Totem Pokémon."
"Yeah, we got it that Team Scorn is chasing after the Totem Pokémon," Ash said, "Hopefully something can be done to ensure they're protected from Team Scorn."
Nanu arched a wry eyebrow at Ash. "...I had some doubts about you, Ash, considering I got it you had to train your Lycanroc to not get riled up over its fur getting dirty. But I can tell you're earnest about wanting to protect the Totem Pokémon." Nanu gave a casual and sly, yet sincere, smirk of amusement. "I guess you proved me wrong about you." Nanu then offered Ash a handshake, which the boy from Pallet Town, Kanto, accepted.
The following day at the trainer school on Melemele Island, the heroes and their classmates were all hanging out waiting for Kukui to show up. During this hanging out, Ash, Serena, and the reborn trainers told the rest of the class what had gone down on Ula'ula Island. "So Team Scorn tried making another grab for a Totem Pokémon," Kiawe said, "And even the normally apathetic Kahuna Nanu is riled up and eager to stop Team Scorn's hand from reaching the Totem Pokémon."
Dawn nodded once in the affirmative, but before she could say something the door leading into the classroom opened, and in walked Kukui followed by Principal Oak and, surprisingly enough, Kahuna Nanu. "Hey Dawn, we need to talk to you in private," Kukui said, "Nanu and a few other authority figures in Alola got together and had come up with a plan to protect as many of Alola's Totem Pokémon as possible from Team Scorn."
"And why do you need to talk to me about it?" Dawn asked.
Gesturing to Dawn, Nanu said, "You're the Sinnoh Champion, making you the first person that Alolan authority figures wanted to bring in to help." Looking to Ash, Nanu said, "Also, I kind of wanna bring Ash in on it too, but I may need your help convincing the others."
Nodding once in understanding, Dawn got up and left to go with Nanu, Kukui, and Principal Oak, telling the others that she'll be back when she's done talking to the adults about the plan that was come up with to protect as many of Alola's Totem Pokémon as possible from Team Scorn.
...
To Dawn's surprise, she was taken to a secure location set up in some farmlands on Akala Island, near Kiawe's family's farm. There, Kukui, Alolan Oak, and Nanu led Dawn in, and inside they were greeted by various persons in positions of authority, including Hala, Olivia, and the Officer Jenny keeping tabs on Nanu. "I... assume that there is a reason for all of this," Dawn said as she looked around, taking note of the authority figures as well as many officers.
"Indeed Dawn," Olivia said, "This was actually arranged by Nanu, who was surprisingly riled up when he contacted me."
"The Totem Pokémon are in danger," Nanu said, "Don't tell me you don't find the matter of making sure they're safe to be a pressing, urgent matter."
Gesturing to Nanu, Hala said, "To be honest, I don't think anyone ever would of expected you to be so keen and serious on... well, anything outside of that one time that Acerola girl took your kendama toy and held it hostage to get you to do some duties."
Nanu let out a resigned sigh before tunring to face Dawn. "...Sinnoh Champ," Nanu began, "I talked things over with the others here, and we've come to the conclusion that, to keep Team Scorn from getting to the Totem Pokémon, the Totem Pokémons' best shot is to be given to trainers. This may have some negative repercussions for the Island Challenge, but better to have things there messed up than to see a Totem Pokémon fall into Team Scorn's hands."
"You... you guys have arranged for the Totem Pokémon to be given to trainers," Dawn said.
"As one of the top trainers in Alola right now," Olivia said, "You have been selected to receive one of the Totem Pokémon to take home with you. We have as many of the totem Pokémon out in the field next to us as possible, brought in from where they were at in Alola. We can only entrust one Totem Pokémon to you, but we will let you pick the one you will take home for yourself."
Dawn was surprised by the solution that Alola came up with to protect the Totem Pokémon from Team Scorn; give them to trainers that Alola can trust. Although it will disrupt the flow of events in the Island Challenge, there really wasn't much of a choice considering that the Totem Pokémon are in danger of being taken by the greedy evil of Team Scorn. Nodding once to show she understood, Dawn said, "Very well. I would like to see the Totem Pokémon first, though. Also." Dawn cast a quick glance at Nanu, which he caught, before turning to look back at the others. "...After I pick a Totem Pokémon," Dawn said, "I would like to recommend a few other trainers who I believe can also be trusted to receive a Totem Pokémon."
"We were planning to ask you for you opinion in that regard anyway, yes," Hala replied right before he and the others led Dawn into the field where the Totem Pokémon were all being corralled.
...
Dawn saw that the authority figures of Alola had been able to gather a total of eleven Totem Pokémon; Alolan Raticate, Alolan Marowak, Gumshoos, Vikavolt, Ribombee, Araquanid, Lurantis, Salazzle, Togedemaru, Mimikyu, and Kommo-o. Dawn recalled from the Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon games in her past life that these were all of the Totem Pokémon that the player can get. "There were all of the Totem Pokémon that we were able to corral in and bring to the safety of this farm," Hala said to Dawn, "Where the guards are ever on alert to ensure Team Scorn won't so much as get within a dozen meters."
"We hope that you are willing to take on the responsibility of taking and keeping one, so as to better protect it from Team Scorn," Olivia went on, "If you feel it's too big of a burden, we will understand and not blame you for wanting to withdraw."
Gently shaking her head, Dawn replied, "No, I have no problem with this. And I actually have an idea on which Totem Pokémon I'd like to take handle of." Pointing over to the Totem Pokémon she was planning to choose, Dawn said, "I would like to take the Totem Kommo-o."
Olivia had a surprised look on her face. "Kommo-o? Really?" Shrugging, Olivia said, "Huh, I'd figure that you'd have sprung for one of the cuter looking ones, like Ribombee or Togedemaru or Mimikyu or perhaps Lurantis."
Gently shaking her head, Dawn said, "No, I feel I can best work with Kommo-o." There were no real objections, and as such Dawn received ownership of the Totem Kommo-o. Checking its Poké Ball with her Pokédex, Dawn saw that the Totem Kommo-o was female, had a jolly nature, and the Overcoat ability. When asked by Olivia if she wanted to name Kommo-o, Dawn nodded once in the affirmative. "...Yes, I'm going to want to name her Tambourine."
Dawn had to send one of her on-hand Pokémon to Oak's lab in order to make room for Tambourine in her party. After that was handled, Hala said, "Now then Dawn. Do you have any suggestions for other trainers who can be trusted with the serious duty of protecting the Totem Pokémon from Team Scorn?"
Dawn had a wry look on her face. "...I have a few candidates in mind, actually."
Later, Ash along with Kenny, Trip, and Ideku (Dawn had to find Katsuku and ask him to get a hold of Ideku) were brought to the area where the Totem Pokémon were being kept. After things were explained to them and they were each offered to pick a Totem Pokémon to take home with them, the boys all accepted. Dawn was a bit on the surprised side to see Ash pick the Totem Araquanid, but he said it's on the basis it's dual water bug type and he hopes to try and ease Misty off of her fears of bug types by introducing her to a bug type that also a water type.
Kenny got next pick and, to a lack of surprise on Dawn's part, he picked the Totem Mimikyu. "He's beautiful!" Kenny cried out as he hugged the Totem Mimikyu and actually cried tears of joy, "He's just so beautiful!" The Totem Mimikyu actually ended up being male, and Kenny decided to name him Delirious. The now dubbed Delirious, remembering Kenny as the one who stuck his neck out to save him from Team Scorn, gave a happy cry and hugged him back.
After Kenny picked a Totem Pokémon, it was Trip's turn to pick, and he ended up picking the Totem Alolan Marowak. After checking its bio and learning Marowak's male, Trip decided to name him Alfred. Dawn got vibes from the now dubbed Alfred that he was like a certain other Alfred who referred to others as 'stupid boy', and had the potential to be as... unsettling... as Trip's named Magmortar Mr. Popo. Regardless, Trip still received a Totem Pokémon.
Last to go was Ideku, and he ended up picking the Totem Ribombee. It turned out to be female, and Ideku named her Bandelby. There was still half a dozen other Totem Pokémon that needed to be given to homes with trusting trainers, but for now the authorities of Alola could rest easy, as at least five were now safe with trainers who can keep them from the greedy grasp of Team Scorn. After everything was settled, the trainers were allowed to go home.
...
"So now at least five Totem Pokémon are safe from Team Scorn's grasp," Dawn said as she talked to Kenny and Trip at the hotel on Akala Island, "Granted, the other six that were gathered still need to be found homes, but at least five are safe."
Trip nodded in agreement. "Us taking over ownership of some of the Totem Pokémon means we won't just protect them, we should also train them. I already have a few ideas on what I wanna do with Alfred."
Dawn nodded in agreement. "Yes, I similarly have a game plan in mind for Tambourine's training."
"Heh," Trip said, "Figures that you'd go right for the Kommo-o. And you've previously caught a Salamence. At the rate you're going, you're gonna make Iris green with envy."
After nodding in acknowledgement to Trip, Dawn turned to face Kenny, only to see him dancing with Delirious, as well as Hovernyan and Kermit. All of them wore MLG shades. Dawn merely sighed before saying, "Well, Kenny has his own way of training his Pokémon."
END, CHAPTER TWO-HUNDRED AND EIGHTEEN
Author's notes;
This chapter covers the Ula'ula Island Grand Trial where the heroes taking the Island Challenge all go against Nanu, beating him and clearing the Grand Trial in the process. Additionally, Nanu's past connection to the late Giovanni of the now defunct Team Rocket was made known due to the inter-regional investigation done by Interpol (Looker will be showing up soon btw, so spoiler alert on that), so now Nanu's on thin ice and being made to act a certain way. Regardless, Nanu's still naturally riled up by the threat Team Scorn poses to the Totem Pokémon of Alola.
Speaking of, in a move to protect the Totem Pokémon despite how said move may mess with future Island Challenges, the authorities of Alola decided to seek trainers who can be trusted and give them each one of the Totem Pokémon so as to protect them from Team Scorn's greedy grasp. Dawn is the first brought in and she ends up picking Kommo-o, and later Ash, Kenny, Trip, and Ideku also are brought in on it and get Araquanid, Mimikyu, Alolan Marowak, and Ribombee among the Totems, thus ensuring at least five are safe from Team Scorn's grasp.
Anyway, the next chapter will quickly cover another Ultra Guardian mission before shifting to focus on Serena's go at a Contest on Ula'ula Island. The heroes will also learn of a... certain dark secret... that they don't know what to make of right off the bat. Until then, take care.
