Pokémon: Sinnoh no Isekai

Chapter Two-hundred and twenty-seven: Clauncher and me

The heroes and their classmates were all gathered in the Class 1-A homeroom at the trainer school on Melemele Island, along with Paul, Gladion, Ideku, and Katsuku. "Okay everyone, we're here to discuss the next Kenny Harris Studios movie," Kenny said, "And this one here is gonna be made with an upcoming celebration dedicated to moms in Alola in mind."

"It's going to be dedicated to moms?" Gladion asked, sounding mildly surprised.

Nodding once in the affirmative, Kenny said, "Yeah, it's gonna be a sweet, heartwarming number starring a girl who never had a Pokémon before, then she finally gets one, and then she gets used to and learns what all she needs to know about taking care of a Pokémon. The movie basically uses raising a Pokémon as an allegory for motherhood, which will be further highlighted as all of the trainers with Pokémon in the movie will be the girls."

Gesturing to Kenny, Katsuku asked, "So the girls here will have leading roles."

Kenny nodded once in the affirmative. "Yes, Katsuku, exactly."

"Question," Paul began, "The girl who gets her first Pokémon in the movie, I assume she'll be the lead?"

"Yes and the role's going to Serena automatically as it'll help boost her star power when she performs in Contests here in Alola," Kenny replied.

Nodding once in understanding, Paul said, "Yeah, I heard about the Contests. My older brother Reggie has gotten into watching them, and he and I both saw the one where Serena beat some girl named Shauna whose Gothita's psychic attacks did nothing to Serena's Braixen for some odd reason."

"It was actually my Zorua disguised as my Braixen," Serena explained, "I was utilizing Zorua's Illusion ability."

Paul arched a wry, mildly amused eyebrow at Serena. "...Not bad," Paul remarked, sounding genuinely impressed. Turning to look at Kenny, Paul asked, "So Serena and the other girls will be using their Pokémon the movie. I can only assume they'll be using cute ones, such as Serena's Zorua and-"

"Actually," Kenny interrupted, "To better preserve Serena's Contest strategy involving using Zorua's Illusion ability, Serena will be using her Clauncher."

Serena looked a bit surprised at that. "My Clauncher?"

Pointing at Serena, Kenny explained, "Sure, Clauncher isn't cute by conventional standards. But that has actually been worked into the script as something your character will work with, telling off the girls who comment on Clauncher not being as traditionally cute. Your character, having finally gotten a Pokémon, is just happy to finally have a Pokémon, and she will fight tooth and nail if need be to protect and stand up for it."

Turning around to face the dry erase board, Kenny wrote 'new mom' near the top along the upper left side. "Now since you girls will be trainers using the position as an allegory for being a mom, the various types of characters are based off of various types of moms I've seen in fiction. First is the new mom-type, and obviously Serena is the one getting that role."

Kenny then wrote 'business woman mom' next and said, "The next one is the businesswoman mom-type, basically the kind of woman who works a high position in a company and can order people around with the best of them. Despite being very successful career wise, she won't hesitate to put a call on hold to tend to her Pokémon, preferring to do Pokémon-raising herself rather than hire someone to do it for her."

"That's basically me and Lillie's mom," Gladion said, "Minus the 'rather would do it herself' part, at least until recent events. Me and Lillie's mom has gotten far more caring and attentive towards us ever since we rescued her from Ultra Space."

Pointing at Gladion, Kenny said, "That's a good point, Gladion." Turning to look at Lillie, Kenny said, "Lillie, can you fill the businesswoman mom role by acting somewhat like your mom?"

"It... might be a bit embarrassing but I can try," Lillie replied, as Snowy who was sitting on Lillie's lap gave a happy cheer.

Kenny nodded once in the affirmative to Lillie before turning around to face the dry erase board, wrote 'fat mom', then turned around and said, "Next is the fat mom-type, as I've seen in multiple groups of moms who are friends that there's usually at least one who's fat. But the extra weight helps to sell the fat mom's image as a kindly, warm, welcoming person that exudes motherly vibes. That being said, the fat suit's coming back for-"

"No," Lana said flatly.

"I... I was gonna hold auditions for the other mom roles," Kenny said, "You don't have to-"

"Still no," Lana interrupted.

Shrugging, Kenny said, "Fine, I guess Mallow and Dawn will try out for that role." Next, Kenny turned around and wrote 'Hippie mom' before turning back around and saying, "Next is the hippie mom-type, which is the kind of mom who thinks of using crystals to help clear up a little one's chakras or whatever. Kind of a granola girl kind of character, if you think about it." Kenny turned back around to write 'hard partying mom', then turned back around and said, "The last one is a hard partying mom-type, typically the kind of woman who doesn't mind knocking back a drink with the men. She'll also have a dash of redneck and trailer trash thrown in."

"Me and Reggie's mom is kind of like that," Paul remarked.

Nodding once, Kenny said, "Now, some of the guys here will also have roles, including one who will be an instructor leading the girls in a class on being good trainers to their Pokémon. I also have a scene planned that I'm... gonna need Trip and Dawn to help me with."

Looking at Kenny with a wry look, Trip said, "I'm... guessing it's that 'Mount Olympusmon' scene you told us about." Kenny nodded in the affirmative.

Holding up a hand, Mallow said, "Uhh, Kenny, a situation occurs. My only Pokémon is Tsarenna."

"You'll be borrowing Ash's Eevee for whatever role you get," Kenny said, "Serena's already got the new mom-type role, and Lillie's probably the best bet to play the businesswoman mom-type role. But the other mom-type roles are still available."

"I kind of wanna audition for the hard partying type role," Mallow said, "You mention the character will have dashes of redneck and trailer trash added in, and my older brother loves comedy movies with those elements, or otherwise are blue collar humor in general."

"Well well well, it looks like auditions are shaping up already," Kenny said. A few more topics were covered, and after that explaining the general structure of the movie, which Kenny said would be titled 'Clauncher and me', was a go.

The screen was black save for the Kenny Harris Studios logo as Kenny's voice was heard saying, "A Kenny Harris production." The screen then lit up to show various scenes of girls interacting with small cutesy Pokémon acting as little kids slash babies; Lillie dressed as a businesswoman was sitting at a table while talking on the phone and feeding Snowy, and Lana dressed like a granola girl-type mom was sitting on the floor while burning incense as Popplio watched from a crib.

Next to be shown was Dawn who was in the fat suit with the prosthetic double chin wore a long sleeved blouse and sweat pants as she fed Wyrmscale while it sat in a highchair, and Mallow wearing a white t-shirt under red flannel shirt that was open in the front plus blue jeans with torn knees, also she wore her hair straight without having it in the usual long pigtails drank from a can of soda, let out a rather unlady like belch, then picked up Eevee and put it into a stroller before heading out.

The scene then shifted to show Serena waking up in bed, then looking to the other side of the room she was in to see a crib that was empty. Serena looked sad and let out a resigned sigh as she got up and proceeded to get ready to head out. When she was, Serena was seen leaving her house, right as the title of the movie, Clauncher and me, was shown on the screen as cutesy opening credit music played in the background to give the idea of moms raising cute little kids, or Pokémon.

...

Serena was walking along until she saw the other girls who had all met up and were talking to one another. All of them were standing up while having their hands on strollers, and it seemed that Lana, Lillie, and Mallow were all focusing on Dawn. Seeing this, Serena came walking up to the other girls. "Hey girls, what did I miss?" asked Serena when she finally got up to the other girls, "And how come Dawn's pushing a stroller?"

They all turned to face Serena, with Lana saying in a somewhat laid back tone, "You're not gonna believe this, but Dawn just got a Pokémon!" Curious, Serena walked up and looked into the stroller Dawn was pushing, and saw Wyrmscale laying in there fast asleep. "Right now the others and I are trying to offer Dawn advice," Lana said, "Such as how I'm recommending she gets a crystal to hang from the stroller to help her Pokémon's chakras flow more clearly."

Looking to Dawn, Serena said, "Congratulations, I bet you must be so excited."

"Oh I'm as happy as I can be don'tcha know," Dawn said, using a sort of Wisconsin accent, "And lil' Wyrmscale in here, in addition to being just plum-picking adorable, it's also a real gifted lil' one!" Gently waking Wrymscale up, Dawn said sfter getting its attention, "Hey lil' Wyrmscale, see that big ol' rock over there?" The camera then shifted to show a large boulder on the ground, roughly the size of a standard trash can. "I want you to blast it with Dragon Pulse."

Wyrmscale nodded a few times in the affirmative while making a cute little affirmative grunting noise before opening its mouth to fire a Dragon Pulse attack right at the boulder, blasting it to oblivion. As the other girls looked on in amazement, Dawn said, "See? Lil' Wyrmscale is cute and gifted, don'tcha know!"

Seeing Wyrmscale settle back down into its stroller, Lillie said, "Does it get along with other Pokémon? Because power like that makes me worry about having it at the same playdates I bring Snowy to." Snowy then perked up and got up in its stroller, looking up at Lillie and the other girls.

"Oh, Wyrmscale's well behaved and really shy," Dawn said, "No need to worry about Wyrmscale getting up to any misbehaving."

As the other trainers were talking about their Pokémon, Serena who looked resigned turned around and left, not being noticed by the others. Serena as she walked along let out a troubled sigh. "Oh, I wish I was lucky like the others and had my own Pokémon," Serena said as she eventually reached her house. Going into her house, Serena went into her room, took another look at the empty crib in there, then got into her bed and, with one last sad look on her face, eventually settled down to sleep.

...

Then the scene shifted to a nighttime view of a mountaintop as a narrator said, "Meanwhile, on top of Mount Olympusmon, Palkia had heard Serena's wish!" The scene then shifted to show a bunch of major legendary Pokémon going about, with Palkia laying off to the side, laying on its side while propping itself up by resting its head in its right hand.

Palkia then suddenly looked like it heard something, dug a finger into where its ear would be, then flicked away a sphere of light it produced before letting out a belch with a Flamethrower. The light sphere was seen shooting through the air, before it eventually crash-landed outside of Serena's house, making a big enough impact to get Serena to wake up suddenly. Nervously she walked outside and was greeted by the sight of the smoking crater outside of her house.

"Oh my goodness!" Serena said, "What could have made such an impa-" Serena stopped short when she heard some cries come from the crater, where smoke was still coming out of. Having heard the cries, Serena braved the smoke, waving a lot of it away, before she was able to see what was in the crater. When she did, her eyes lit up excitedly as she looked down at what was waiting in the crater.

It was a Clauncher, and it was a shiny one to boot. The Clauncher looked up at Serena and stared at her for a moment before waving its big claw at her like someone waiving their hand to give a friendly hello. "Eee, it's a Pokémon!" Serena cried out in excitement as she scooped Clauncher up, brought it inside, and proceeded to hold and hug the Clauncher, who did not seem to mind the attention.

...

The next day, Serena met up with the other girls, only this time ALL of the girls were pushing strollers, rather than all of them save for Serena. When the other girls looked down into the stroller that Serena was pushing and saw Clauncher, the reactions... were mixed. "Pfft, kinda funny lookin' for a little one, ain't it?" Mallow asked as she took out a can of root beer and began chugging it down.

"Hey! Clauncher here is just as precious as any of the other little ones here!" Serena automatically retaliated.

"Hmm, I think that Clauncher here needs its chakra pathways opened up more," Lana said. She then reached forward and tied a crystal on a string over the basket of the stroller that Clauncher was in. "There we go," Lana said, "That ought to-" Lana stopped short when Clauncher leapt up at the crystal, pulled it off the string, and then tried eating it, only to reject it when it discovered it was too hard. "Ah no no," Lana said, "Crystals are for helping to make chakras flow more smoothly. They are not for eating." Looking to Serena, Lana said, "Maybe you should burn some incenses to help calm Clauncher down. They work wonders for Popplio."

"If they smell good, chances are the lil' weirdo here will try eating them," Mallow smirked while pointing at Clauncher with her hand she held her can of root beer in.

"Serena's new little one here is just hungry, girls," Dawn said, "All little ones will be hungry." Turning to look at Serena, Dawn said, "I have plenty of treats on hand for Wyrmscale, but I don't mind sending some your Clauncher's way if you're okay with it." Serena nodded in agreement before Dawn reached into the cubby under the basket of the stroller, pulled out a bag of treats, then opened in and poured out a handful she placed in the stroller with Clauncher.

Immediately, Clauncher dived at the treats and ate all of them, quickly and a bit messily. "Heh, I knew it," Dawn said, "The little one just needed food. And if there's one thing I know about being a trainer, it's knowing when the little ones need to eat."

Looking at Dawn's considerable size, Mallow said, "Given how... overflowing... you are, I'd say that's a given."

"Ooh, now that Serena's got a Pokémon, she ought to come with us to the Pokémon-raising class we're going to," Lillie said, getting cheers of agreement from the other girls. As such, they more or less dragged Serena with them to go along with them for the day.

...

At the Pokémon raising class, the girls were all sitting on the floor in a dance studio while Paul was sitting in front of the. Paul was dressed in a yellow men's tank top, red gym shorts, white socks, red sports shoes, and he wore a red and white striped wristband on each wrist and a matching sweatband around his head. "Now ladies, this part of bonding with your little ones will involve letting them know that they can achieve whatever they set their minds to," Paul said, then he reached to his side and pulled a plushy Pikachu out that was about the size of a real one.

"What's the plushy for, teach?" Mallow asked as she pointed at the plushy.

"It's to help me demonstrate what I want you ladies to do," Paul said. He then held the Pikachu plushy by the armpits while it was facing forward, then lifted it up as high as he could. "This exercise is meant to help the little ones know that you will be there to support them and to let them know that there is no height that they can't reach as they grow up," Paul continued, "Go on, give it a whirl!"

Nodding in understanding, the girls all proceeded to lift up their respective Pokémon the same way that Paul was lifting up the Pikachu plushy. Mallow lifted up Eevee, Lana lifted up Popplio, Dawn lifted up Wyrmscale, and Lillie lifted up Snowy. Serena also lifted up Clauncher, but as it lacked armpits and was essentially just a loaf, Serena held Clauncher up more like it was a pillow. "Now don't hold them up too long," Paul said, "Pokémon like the little ones you ladies all have have a tendency to get scared easy, so I suggest you slowly lower them back down."

The girls proceeded to do as Paul said, even following his movement that he did with the Pikachu plushy. "Now then ladies," Paul began, "The next thing-"

Paul was cut off when Wyrmscale began making subdued groaning noises that suggested it might be sick. "Oh dear, are you okay lil' Wyrmscale?" Dawn asked in a worried tone, only for a hurling sound to be heard although the actual hurling happened off screen.

"Ooh, that is nasty," Mallow said, smirking and chuckling a bit in amusement.

Getting up quickly to get a towel, Paul said, "This isn't what I had in mind, but this does bring up another lesson I wanted to impart to you ladies, that being the fact that accidents like throwing up can happen. If and when they do, the little one will probably be upset, so make sure you comfort them and let them know they aren't in any trouble and that you don't blame them." Paul, with help from Dawn, cleaned up a small puddle of 'throw up' which clearly just looked like spaghetti rings from a can. Dawn even gently wiped Wyrmscale's face before resting it over her shoulder and gently patting it on the back.

...

After the fiasco at the Pokémon raising class, Serena decided to seek out individual advice from the other girls. She first stopped by to see Mallow, who was sitting in her living room at her place, and the living room gave off strong redneck slash trailer trash vibes. "Yeah, I guess it was smart of you to ask me for advice," Mallow said, "Eevee there is probably the oldest of the little ones you, me, and the other girls all have. I think that Dawn's little weirdo who got sick at the trainer class today is the youngest, but don't quote me on that."

Nodding once, Serena said, "Yes, well, umm, what do you recommend that I do to raise Clauncher?"

"As we all know," Mallow began, "Little ones are gonna get curious and as such get into trouble, doing things they shouldn't do because they could get hurt. Normally, a responsible trainer will scoop their little Pokémon up before they make the mistake, but I say that unless you see they're about to do something that will SERIOUSLY hurt them, let them learn from experience."

"Y-You're saying I should let Clauncher make mistakes?" Serena asked, looking surprised.

"Experience is one heck of a teacher, Serena," Mallow said, "If a Pokémon does something it shouldn't do and it doesn't like the result, then it'll know not to do the bad thing again so as to avoid not getting the bad result again." Pointing at Eevee, Mallow said, "Take Eevee here. She got up on the table and wandered over to a glass I had set full of my usual drink. She took one drink, immediately had a bad reaction to it, and has not touched any of my drink ever since."

"Y-You let Eevee take a drink of soda?" Serena asked.

Waving away Serena's worry, Mallow said, "It was only one swallow, barely even a sip. That little won't do enough damage, even in the long run. And hey, it convinced Eevee to leave my drinks alone."

...

Next, Serena went to see Lillie, who while dressed in a work out outfit while using an exercise bike and talking on the phone. "...Well you can tell Sanderson that he can kiss my butt," Lille said into the phone, "The merger is happening regardless of if he likes it or not!" Lillie then hung up the call and turned to look at Serena, who was standing there while holding Clauncher. "So what was it you wanted to ask me?"

"I wanted to ask you for any advice you may have on raising a Pokémon," Serena replied.

Lillie was about to speak up, but Gladion wearing a butler outfit walked in. "Miss Lille, it's time for your Pokémon's lunch," Gladion said, "If you want, I can feed her for you so you won't have to break from-"

"You will do no such thing," Lillie interrupted, immediately getting off of the exercise bike and having Serena follow her, "Snowy is my Pokémon, I'll do it!"

The scene immediately cut to Serena and Lillie sitting at a table, as Lillie fed Snowy who was sitting in a highchair. "You seemed rather firm with your butler about you being the one to give your Pokémon lunch," Serena remarked.

"And that brings me to the advice I was going to give you," Lillie said, "Nothing is more important than being there for your little one. I once put a phonecall discussing the business of a multi-million dollar deal on hold because Snowy here woke up crying from a nightmare, and I didn't get back to the call until Snowy had settled down and was assured nothing bad would happen." Looking to Serena, Lillie said, "Your little one... is the MOST... important thing in your life."

Serena nodded once in understanding, finding Lillie's advice to be rather agreeable.

...

After speaking with Lillie, Serena went to go see Lana, and her living room gave off hippie slash granola girl vibes. There was some incense burning, and the living room had a strong 60's hippie theme. "My advice?" Lana said, "Don't listen to what companies that produce name brand Pokémon raising supplies say. They just wanna fatten their wallets, and do so as cheaply as possible."

"Cheaply as possible?" Serena asked.

Nodding once, Lana went on, "They don't care about the quality of the products they try selling to unsuspecting trainers, that's why Pokémon food and formulas and the like tend to be filled with all sorts of nasties that keep a little one's chakras from flowing properly. The best bet is all natural."

"That... can get expensive," Serena said.

"Nothing is too good for your little one," Lana replied, "Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to- oh!" Lana stopped short when she saw Clauncher eat a brownie on a plate that she (Lana) had laid off to the side. "Oh dear, your Clauncher ate my special brownie," Lana said.

"Why?" Serena began, "Is that bad?"

"Well..." Lana explained, "...Let's just say that Clauncher is about to go on a trip that'll amp up its already notable appetite."

...

Lastly, Serena went to see Dawn, and there was clearly an abundance of food at Dawn's place. "Ooh, making sure your little one is fed is always important don'tcha know," Dawn said while she was holding Wyrmscale, "You don't want them starving." Gently rubbing her hand over her belly, Dawn said, "You can probably guess that it's advice I follow myself."

Serena nodded once before turning to look at Clauncher, who was horfing down what all food was in front of it on the table. "Clauncher does seem to eat a lot," Serena remarked.

"Well Clauncher is still growin'," Dawn said, "When a little one is growin' up, that's then they're at their hungriest."

"Oh, is your Pokémon alright?" Serena asked, "Last time I saw it, it got sick at the Pokémon raising class."

"Oh, Wyrmscale just had an upset tummy is all," Dawn replied, "Gave it some medicine to settle it down, then when Wyrmscale got up I made sure it got what all it needed to eat." Turning to look at Clauncher, Dawn said, "And your little one here has quite the appetite, He'll grow up to be big and strong, don't go doubtin' that."

Turning to look at Clauncher as it continued to eat, Serena couldn't help but smile in some amusement. Raising a Pokémon of her own was going to be quite the task that laid before her. But she would be taking it on.

...

Eventually, Serena got Clauncher back home. It was tuckered out, so she took it to her room, laid it in the crib, and once she was certain it was going to stay asleep, Serena let out a relieved sigh. There was still so much that she had to learn when it came to raisin her own Pokémon, but luckily for her Serena knew that she was able to access all sorts of help for the task. Most of all advice from friends who had experience in the field and knew what they were doing. Each had a unique take on when it came to being a trainer, and Serena was going to make the most of it.

Letting out a sleepy yawn as she crawled into bed, Serena looked to the crib and saw Clauncher still sleeping soundly. Smiling gently and sleepily, Serena said in a quiet tone, "Good night, Clauncher." Serena then laid down, reached for the lamp, turned the lights off, and then went to sleep,

END

'Clauncher and me' proved to be very successful among the typical fanbase of Kenny Harris Studios fans, although it drew a good deal of praise from moms. Specifically, the respective moms of Serena, Lillie, Lana, and Dawn all applauded the efforts of their respective daughters. Ash also said his mom saw 'Clauncher and me' and said it was Kenny's best movie yet. Other women, including Kenny's own mom as well as Wicke and Burnet, also loved it.

During a party to celebrate the success of 'Clauncher and me', Serena while she was talking to Ash and the reborn trainers noticed that Mallow was standing alone off to the side, a look of melancholy on her face. "Umm..." Serena began, "...Is there a reason why Mallow is alone off to the side like that?"

"Ooh, yeah Dawn and I got it from our mom who had lunch at Mallow's family's restaurant after she was recovered enough from her injuries," Trip said, "Mallow's mom had... had actually died." Trip telling that got a shocked reaction out of Mallow. "...Yeah, according to Mallow's dad Abe, Mallow's mom had some sort of illness that made her cough a lot and made her weak for a long time. Mallow was rather young when she lost her mom."

"Whew, for a second there," Kenny said, "I was afraid that Mallow may have lost her mom to Team Scorn-caused violence. Don't get me wrong, it still sucks major Mudsdale dong that Mallow's mom died, but at least it wasn't due to Team Scorn."

Briskly shaking his head, Trip said, "Oh no, Mallow's mom died back when Mallow was younger than either of Lana's little sisters. At least according to me and Dawn's mom."

As the heroes talked, some of the Pokémon were running around, although Wyrmscale stuck close to Dawn. After it settled down when it flinched due to Pikachu, Eevee, and Togedemaru running past, Wyrmscale looked up at Dawn, then gently poked her in her flat stomach, then looked up at her in confusion. "I'm not wearing the fat suit anymore, Wyrmscale," Dawn said, seeing the confused look on her named Poipole's face after she looked down upon feeling something poke into her flat stomach.

The heroes continued to talk, but stopped when Sophocles came up to them. "Hey, I got a call from Misty's sisters," Sophocles said.

"How's Misty doing?" Ash asked.

"She's past the worst of it, and her recovery ought to be smooth," Sophocles said, "At least that's what Daisy said. Also, Daisy told me that Misty's and your friend Brock will be coming to Alola."

"Brock's coming to Alola?" Ash replied, looking surprised.

Nodding once, Sophocles said, "I think that Daisy said something about Brock wanting to check Alola out, also learn how Nurse Joys run medical care for Pokémon here in Alola, saying it might help him with becoming a Pokémon doctor."

Folding his arms over his chest, Kenny said, "Aha, that's the angle that Brock was working, I knew he was working an angle when he decided to become a Pokémon doctor! He did it to get closer to the Nurse Joys of the world! Oh ho ho, Brock you sly Casanova you!"

"Oh come on now, Kenny," Ash said, "Brock is actually serious about becoming a Pokémon doctor."

END, CHAPTER TWO-HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SEVEN

Aiuthor's notes;

This chapter sees the fifth Kenny Harris Studios movie covered, and it's basically a heartwarming tale of new motherhood, using being a trainer as an allegory for being a mom. The movie proved popular, and moms especially love it. The heroes take note of how Mallow was sulking by herself at a celebratory party for the movie's success, and it's there they get it that Mallow's mom died back when Mallow was still a little kid (it happened far too long ago to have been caused by Team Scorn related violence as Kenny was relieved to hear).

When looking up Mallow's mom in the anime, all I got on her cause of death was 'unspecified illness', so I added a few details such as lots of coughing and being weak a lot. After the heroes discuss Mallow having lost her mom, Sophocles comes up and informs them that, according to Misty's sisters (Misty's out of the woods when it comes to trying to recover), Brock is coming to Alola to see the sights and learn how medical work in Alola for Pokémon works. The next chapter will be covering giving Brock a warm Alolan welcome, so until then take care.
