Chapter Two-hundred and thirty-six: The Manalo Conference, part one
The heroes and their classmates were sailing for Manalo Stadium, where the Alola League Conference was going to be held. The Alola League Conference, its proper name being the Manalo Conference, would see trainers coming in from all over the Alola region, and a few from outside of Alola's shores, to compete against one another in battle to see who it would be that will stand at the top as the first Champion of Alola; as this is the first time ever in Alola that a League's been established, the winner will be made Alola's first Champion by default.
Not all of the classmates were on the boat, however; Trip rode on Cameron alongside the boat's left, while Dawn flew on Tsukune alongside the boat's right. Even so, they were all able to get to the island that Manalo Stadium was located on alright. The boat and Cameron docked, and everyone stepped onto shore as Trip recalled his named Kyogre and Dawn recalled her named Palkia. Looking to everyone, Serena said, "So then, who all is looking forward to entering the Manalo Conference?"
"Aside from you who doesn't do League Conferences anyway," Lana said to Serena, "And Dawn who doesn't plan to enter due to her already being the Champion of Sinnoh, I think everyone in class plans to enter."
As the classmates conversed among themselves, they were met up by Kukui who came walking up to them. "Hey-o, kids," Kukui said, "You all excited for the Manalo Conference, yeah?"
Nodding in agreement, Dawn remarked, "It certainly will be quite the show, Kukui-sensei."
"Oh Dawn, seeing you reminds me," Kukui said, "There's been a change of plans regarding the exhibition battle that the winner of the Manalo Confernece will fight after becoming Champion of Alola. The opponent won't be you despite what had been discussed. Sorry if this disappoints you."
Shrugging, Dawn replied, "If anything, the only thing I feel is curiosity as who the exhibition match opponent the Alola Champion will fight will be."
"That's gonna be a secret until the big reveal," Kukui replied, "Anyway, you kids that are entering ought to go get registered. Don't wanna be late, ya know." The heroes and their classmates all nodded in agreement, then went about going to register for the Manalo Conference, with registration being done over at the recently completed Manalo Stadium.
...
Over at Manalo Stadium, Dawn and Serena stood by as they watched the rest of class all enter. "Hey Dawn, didn't you say something about bringing a bunch of your big legendary Pokémon?"
Dawn nodded in the affirmative. "I may not be planning to enter the Manalo Conference, but I have an itching feeling in the back of my mind telling me that Team Scorn may try to get up to some nasty shenanigans here. That said, I wanna be ready to rain pain down upon Team Scorn if they dare to interrupt the Manalo Conference, so as to let those competing have a better shot at continuing to compete." Dawn, running partly on memories of the anime from her previous life, knew that something was most likely going to go down, so she wanted to be prepared to handle whatever crisis may come up, Team Scorn or otherwise.
To that end, Dawn had brought Tsukune, Kurumu, Fangfang, Ruby, and Zyuoh; Chi-Chi, Dawn's named Infernape and her first ever Pokémon, filled the last spot. Dawn was hoping that, if there WERE any sort of chaos, that it would at least have the decency to wait until AFTER the Manalo Conference sees Alola's first ever Champion being named. But regardless of when said chaos cropped up, if and when it did, Dawn would be ready for it. Until then, she simply wanted to sit back and watch all of those who entered compete for the chance to earn glory comparable to what Dawn herself had.
After all of the classmates who were entering had entered, Dawn and Serena saw it as Ideku Badorigo, the roaming trainer from Johto, came in and signed up to enter the Manalo Conference. He was accompanied by a shiny Alolan Raticate; when Sophocles asked about it, Ideku confirmed it evolved from the shiny Alolan Rattata that he caught a while ago. "I hope those who are entered are ready," Ideku said, "Because I'm not going to go down easy, if at all."
"Oh ho ho," Kenny said, "Them's fightin' words!"
More and more persons showed up to enter the Manalo Conference; Hau, the grandson of Kahuna Hala, showed up to enter, as did Gladion. Alolan Oak also entered, and the heroes were surprised to see Cilan entering the Manalo Conference as well. Iris also showed up but chose not to enter, citing how she was planning to watch instead. Ideku was thrown for a loop when his older brother Katsuku showed up and entered, albeit some of his classmates were encouraging him to enter in a bro kind of way. One of the friends pushing Katsuku to enter, Justin, also entered.
To Lana's surprise, Draco the boy from Galar was entering the Manalo Conference. Draco, whose family moved from their native Galar to Alola because of work, had caught Lana's attention when the two of them first met, although at the time Lana was wearing the fat suit Kenny had for the Kenny Harris Studios movies, and a few other things were added to make Lana look like a chubby geeky girl. Even so, Lana had caught Draco's eye, or rather 'Kaori' did. But Lana felt her heart quicken when she saw Draco, a boy who accepted a girl despite her plump body and geeky appearance.
Lana couldn't help but wonder what Draco would think of her outside of the disguise.
Dawn saw a bunch of other persons enter, although she took note of how Guzma didn't enter. In the anime in Dawn's previous live, the boss of Team Skull entered and made it quite far. But here he didn't enter. Plumeria who did decide to enter, when asked, said that Guzma was focusing more on supervising the training of the rank and file in Team Skull, to better prep them for fighting Team Scorn. Plumeria was considering something similar, but she decided to enter the Manalo Conference regardless. Dawn, regardless of one person not entering, could tell that things were still going to be exciting.
But then again, the first ever Champion of Alola would be crowned at the end of the Manalo Conference tournament, and then the Champion of Alola will fight an exhibition battle against a now mysterious opponent. Who wouldn't be excited?
The next day, the Manalo Conference was kicked off. Dawn and Iris, being Champions from foreign regions, were shown to a special VIP room where they could watch the Manalo Conference. Iris took note of how Dawn had Chi-Chi out with her to watch the Manalo Conference; Iris decided to do something similar by bringing out her Haxorus to watch the events with her, Dawn, and the named Infernape.
Down in the arena, Kukui greeted all of the participants in the Manalo Conference, and then greeted the audience themselves. After Kukui declared that the Manalo Conference was officially open, a man named Castor took over while announcing his role as the announcer. He introduced the four Kahunas of Alola, those being Hala, Olivia, Nanu, and Hapu, as judges for the Manalo Conference, and then explained that the one-hundred and fifty-one competing trainers would be whittled down to the top sixteen in a big single battle royal; last sixteen trainers standing would move on to the tournament proper.
That surprised Dawn, as she remembered from the anime in her previous life that a small series of battle royals were used to determine the top sixteen, rather than a big ol' single battle royal. Dawn wondered what this meant for the Manalo Conference, and hoped that things were not going to get too chaotic before the actual proper part of the Conference was able to be held. But when Dawn as well as Iris saw that Kenny, Trip, and Ideku were using Shenron, Deelia, and Schwarz as their respective Pokémon for the battle royal, Dawn felt that there was gonna be major damage to the stadium before the actual top sixteen.
The battle royal commenced, and several participating Pokémon were knocked out by Schwarz, not due to being attacked, but because the named Zekrom rushed towards Shenron with such speed and force that a few of the lesser Pokémon that were in the way were smacked aside with such force that they were simply defeated. Schwarz and Shenron confronted one another, but they both looked to the side to see Deelia charging up an Ice Beam attack to fire in their direction. Both Zekrom and Rayquaza flew back in time to avoid the named Dialga's Ice Beam, only for said Ice Beam to blast into and knock out a Gyarados.
Deelia was annoyed that Schwarz and Shenron avoided the Ice Beam, but an ineffectual attack struck Deelias along its front left leg, making Deelia turn to see that a Croagunk tried hitting it with Sludge Bomb. Deelia, with a look on its face more annoyed than anything, charged up a Flash Cannon attack and blasted the Croagunk with it, blasting the Croagunk where the impact created an exploding cloud of dust. With the meddlesome Croagunk now out of the way, Deelia turned to look at Schwarz and aimed an Earth Power attack at it.
The named Zekrom, not even aware it was being aimed at by Deelia, flew up to try and get within range of Shenron who was flying, and as a result the Earth Power missed Schwarz but hit several earthbound Pokémon who were close to the blast zone when Earth Power went off. Zekrom flew at Shenron with the aim to strike it with Dragon Claw, but Shenron flew out of the way, then circled back around to drop down right at Schwarz to hit it with Dragon Ascent. Schwarz flew to the side to avoid it, but Shenron kept going and crashed down into a crowd of other Pokémon, knocking all of them out as the named Rayquaza flew back around and up into the air.
Shenron flew right up at Schwarz again, avoiding an Ice Beam from Deelia in the process, with the Ice Beam going on to take out a Steelix that was taking part in the battle royal. Up in the air, Schwarz used Fusion Bolt and rushed right at Shenron, who flew out of the way, making Schwarz continue onward until it rammed down into a group of several water type Pokémon, knocking all of them out with Fusion Bolt. Schwarz flew back up just in time to avoid a Flash Cannon from Deelia, with said Flash Cannon going on to hit and take out an Alolan Golem.
Shenron used Iron Head, making its head shine like polished metal, before it tried flying right at Schwarz. But the named Zekrom flew out of the way to avoid the hit, and Shenron ended up ramming its Iron Head attack into an Alolan Ninetails, knocking it out instantly. Deelia tried blasting Shenron with an Ice Beam, but the named Rayquaza flew out of the way, resulting in the Ice Beam going on to strike and take out a competing Kommo-o. Although one-hundred and fifty-one different Pokémon were all fighting one another in the Manalo Conference battle royal, it was rather clear that Rayquaza, Dialga, and Zekrom were the big contenders taking part in the large free for all battle.
Iris was beyond excited, getting to witness three major dragon legendary Pokémon fighting one another in a three way battle. Dawn, on the other hand, was seeing some of her worries come true; the legendary dragons, in their efforts to fight one another, were causing mass damage and taking out many of the other Pokémon that were competing. Dawn also saw that, with the exception of Deelia taking out the Croagunk that annoyed it, all of the knock outs scored by the legendary dragons were wholly unintentional knock outs scored while they tried attacking each other.
Eventually, Kukui used a gong to make everyone stop battling. "Alright, folks!" Kukui called out, "We got our sixteen finalists!" Looking around, the heroes saw that the trainers who made it past the battle royal were Ash, Hau, Gladion, Alolan Oak, Ideku, Katsuku, Justin, Cilan, Kenny, Sophocles, Mallow, Lana, Trip, Lillie, Kiawe, and Draco. It was later noted that, with the exception of Ash's Pikachu, none of the Pokémon used by the top sixteen, aside from the three legendary dragons, knocked out any opponents, as most of the competing Pokémon were knocked out by the combined efforts of the legendary dragons when they tried fighting each other.
As a matter of fact, the three legendary dragons were still eyeing one another, but they were told to back off by their trainers. As the remaining Pokémon were all called back, Kukui announced what the first round battles were gonna entail; Ash versus Hau, Gladeon versus Alolan Oak, Ideku versus Katsuku, Justin versus Cilan, Kenny versus Sophocles, Mallow versus Lana, Trip versus Lillie, and Kiawe versus Draco. With the match ups for round one of the top sixteen decided, the heroes and everyone else left to see getting their Pokémon getting treated.
...
"I'm surprise that more damage wasn't caused by Deelia, Shenron, and Schwarz trying to fight each other," Dawn said dryly, "Although in their fighting they did manage to unintentionally take out a number of the other Pokémon that were competing."
"Snowy was a hair's breadth away from getting hit by the Iron Head from Kenny's Rayquaza that took out that Alolan Ninetails," Lillie remarked, still looking freaked that her Alolan Vulpix was that close to getting hurt really really badly.
Clapping his hands together, Kenny said, "Well the battle royal today was but a taste of the cringe that my posse and I are bringing to the table! The others better be wary, for I, Kenny Harris, shall eat lightning and fart thunder!"
"That's... pleasant," Trip remarked in a dry tone, but before he could say anything else, May came stomping on over, a furious look on her face.
Looking at May, Trip said, "Is... something the matter?"
"Boy, I'll say there is!" May snapped, "Max had entered the Manalo Confernece but he was eliminated before he could do much of anything! And all because you, Kenny, and Ideku don't know how to hold your Pokémon back!"
"Umm, all of the Pokémon that took part were acting without orders," Dawn pointed out, "It was a free for all, after all."
"...Oh yeah," Kenny said, "I think I did see a shiny Mightyena among some of the Pokémon that Shenron took out unintentionally."
"Yeah, that was Max's shiny Mightyena," May scowled bitterly.
"Hey, we're sorry your brother didn't make it into the top sixteen, alright?" Kenny said, "Hopefully more care will be taken in the next tournament we all enter."
Scoffing, May said, "Yeah, and maybe you guys will remember to hold back next time too!" May then turned around and stomped off, still very clearly angry.
After May was gone, Lillie turned to face Kenny and Trip. "She did have a point, boys. You could have held back by not using such awesome Pokémon."
"Well since we knew there were multiple guys who could field comparable levels of power also competing, we wanted to be ready," Kenny defended. Dawn sighed, realizing that Kenny did have a point. But at the same time, some more restraint could have been shown by Kenny and Trip; Ideku could have also chosen to hold back, although remembering his desire to obtain and hold onto a region's Champion title, chances are that the roaming trainer from Johto may not have been all that easily convinced to hold back.
And as winning the Manalo Conference here automatically made the winner the first ever Champion of Alola, no need to face a standing Champion or any Elite Four, given that it is the first ever Manalo Conference, Dawn felt that Ideku was going to go all out. That said, it'd take someone of Kenny's and Trip respective levels to stand any shot at facing off against Ideku and coming out the winner; Dawn seriously doubted that even Ash, who won the Manalo Conference in the anime in her previous life, could stand a chance against a trainer who wanted to win at all costs, had more than enough power to do so, and had no qualms with using said power.
This... this certainly was going to be a Manalo Conference for the history books.
The next day, the top sixteen tournament in the Manalo Conference kicked off. Dawn and Iris were back in the VIP viewing room, with May, Max, and Serena having been invited along as guests. To their surprise, the first battle in round one was the Ash versus Hau battle, which saw Hau use his Decidueye. As for Ash, he chose to use his own Decidueye, surprising many in the audience because his Decidueye was the variant from the Hisuian period of Sinnoh's ancient history. Dawn was particularly eager to see how this battle would end up going down.
As it turned out, Ash's Decidueye had the Hisuian variant's hidden ability of Scrappy, allowing its fighting attacks to hurt ghost types such as Alolan Decidueye. That had allowed Hisuian Decidueye to keep up with Alolan Decidueye, and it was even able to counter Alolan Decidueye's signature Z-Move with a flurry of the attack Triple Arrows, each arrow from Hisuian Decidueye countering an arrow from Alolan Decidueye's Z-Move. Eventually, when Alolan Decidueye landed, breathing hard to catch its breath, it was struck with a Triple Arrows attack from Hisuian Decidueye, going down in the process and making Ash the winner of round one battle one of the Manalo Conference's top sixteen.
The other battles went by in a flash; Gladion defeated Alolan Oak by seeing Umbreon take out Komala, Ideku defeated his brother Katsuku when Cupidos the Enamorus took out Katsuku's Umbreon, Justin defeated Cilan when Justin's Scizor defeated Cilan's Pansage, Kenny defeated Sophocles by having Roshi the Torterra use Earthquake on Sophocles's Togedemaru, Lana was able to pull off a win against Mallow despite Mallow using Tsareena and Lana using Primarina, Trip defeated Lillie when Myde blasted Snowy with Flash Cannon, and Kiawe was defeated by Draco.
What surprised folks about Draco's win over Kiawe was that Kiawe's Alolan Marowak went down to Draco's Sandaconda, a Pokémon found in the Galar region. Although the reborn trainers were familiar with it due to past life knowledge, Sandaconda was a mysterious marvel to everyone not yet familiar with the primary region of the generation eight games. Only the reborn trainers weren't excited by Sandaconda's appearance, although they saw that those who were surprised were enraptured in a way similar to how the reborn trainers were when they saw Iris battle Rimu the Paldea Champion over in Kalos that one time.
Rimu had used three Pokémon that the reborn trainers were not familiar with, had never seen before. Dawn still had the brochure on Paldea she got from Rimu, and she still occasionally watched the video recording she had of Rimu's battle he won against Iris. Dawn had every last detail ingrained into her memory, but she still reviewed the info on new Pokémon that she had; in her previous life, it was something she did when a new game was announced, and the info trickled out bit by bit until the game was finally released for players. Dawn would be reviewing what little info that she had on what she knew was gen nine until she got to access what all wonderful goodies that generation had to offer her.
But business like that could be settled later. For now, the first round of the Manalo Conference's top sixteen was over, and the next day would see the top eight round go down. There would be a lot of excitement in the night before the next day, mostly partying. But come the next morning, the Manalo Conference's top eight round would kick off with a bang. Dawn couldn't help but wonder what was in store, and she and her classmates would end up being in for quite the surprise later that night. It would be a surprise that would see to Ash getting a little extra oomph to his team.
...
The heroes were surprised when they were greeted by the sight of Ash's mom Delia showing up with Professor Oak. "Congratulations on masking it past round one of the Manalo Conference's top sixteen round, Ash," Oak said, "I have no doubt you'll continue to do well!"
Nodding once, Ash replied, "Thanks, Professor Oak. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of ba-"
Ash was cut off when Delia suddenly hugged him. "Ooh, I can't believe my baby boy is doing so well!" Delia said as she hugged Ash and spun around, partly swinging Ash around in the process.
After Delia was convinced to let Ash go, Oak said, "While we're here Ash, I have been wanting to see your Meltan."
"Oh yeah," Ash said as he took out a Pokéball, expanded it, and tossed it up to call out his Meltan.
Oak, eager to see a never before recorded Pokémon, tried approaching, but was stopped when Meltan spun its hex nut in place while emitting sound waves. As it did this, Oak mentioned, "As yes, this sort of behavior was noted in reports on-" Oak was cut off when hordes of other Meltans appeared out of the sea, apparently having swam to meet with Ash's Meltan. Ash's Meltan remained in the center as the other Meltan danced around it, creating a strong electrical surge that caused all of them to merge into a single being, triggering the process of evolution.
Ash's Meltan shifted in shape and (especially) size, growing taller and broader, until the process was complete, giving Ash a Melmetal. When Melmetal stood proud, actions lines flew from it as colored Japanese kanji floated nearby, and Kenny could have sworn that he heard someone playing the Pillar Men theme. "My word!" Oak exclaimed, "Ash, your Meltan had evolved into Melmetal!"
"Well well Ash," Trip said, "You got yet another heavy hitter. Makes me feel like I'll have to step it up a notch to keep pace with you."
"You'll have to defeat me if it's a match against Ash in the Manalo Conference that you want!" Kenny said, "And I'd like to see you try and take me down! I have the power of cringe on my side!" The rest of the persons gathered there all let out amused laughs, happy to see such spirited competition among the heroes. Dawn was also a bit interested in Ash getting Melmetal now; he doesn't get Melmetal until prior to the last round of the Manalo Conference, but here he gets it just after getting past the first round of the top sixteen. Dawn had a feeling that Ash getting Melmetal this early will tip the balance of things in the Manalo Confernce. How that balance was going to be tipped, Dawn didn't know.
But she'd be damned if she wasn't interested in seeing how the balance would be tipped.
The next day saw the second round of the Manalo Confernce kick off. Ash faced Gladion, and to the surprise of Dawn, Ash chose to send Naganadel out against Gladion's Lycanroc. In the anime in Dawn's previous life, things saw a Lycanroc mirror match between Ash and Gladion, although their battle there took place in the final round. Here, it was only the second round of the top sixteen, making it the top eight. And as it turned out, it wasn't really Gladion's Lycanroc; a Sludge Bomb from Ash's Ultra Beast undid the Illusion that Gladion's Zoroark had up.
Zoroark and Naganadel ended up continuing their battle, and Ash emerged the winner thanks to a well-placed Dragon Pulse from Naganadel scoring a critical hit on Gladion's Zoroark. Their battle here was a one on one affair, so Ash won after Naganadel took out Gladion's Zoroark. After so exciting of a first battle in the top eight of the Manalo Conference, the rest of the audience was excited to see what other sort of other wondrous wonderments awaited them in the later rounds, as Alola's first ever League went on to make history in the region.
The next round saw Ideku face off against Justin. Justin's Pokémon was a shiny Shiinotic, to the surprise of many who were watching; Dawn would later learn that Justin got the shiny Shiinotic as a Morelull when it was given to him as a gift from his girlfriend Amanda, in her bid to make Justin realize the wonderful wonder of Pokémon that had a mushroom theme going. Shiinotic was a fairly solid Pokémon, and its dual grass fairy typing gave it half a dozen resistances and an immunity to dragon, so there wasn't much that could hurt it.
...Unfortunately for Justin, Ideku decided to use his named Nihilego Anego, and one shot his shiny Shiinotic with Sludge Wave, a poison type attack that, due to being poison, was times four super effective against the dual grass fairy Shiinotic. After Ideku was declared the winner, Justin recalled his fainted shiny Shiinotic and offered a few words of congratulations to Ideku. "No wonder Katsu-bro says you're tough," Justin remarked as he held his right hand out, offering Ideku a handshake.
Arching a curious eyebrow, Ideku said, "Katsu-bro?"
"That's my nickname for Katsuku," Justin explained, "I mean, he and I are bros at school after all." Ideku, after nodding once in understanding, accepted the handshake that Justin was offering him. However, Dawn from where she sat in the VIP viewing room felt that Ideku only did so due to feeling like he was put on the spot; she was getting vibes that Ideku wasn't exactly in the mood to accept the handshake, only did so because he had to keep up a good sportsman appearance, and he might even actually resent Justin for putting him in a spot where he had to act a certain way.
After Ideku and Justin cleared out of the way, the next battle in the Manalo Conference top eight was able to kick off, and it saw Lana face off against Kenny. Lana had a lot of faith in her Primarina, but it was swiftly defeated because Kenny opted to use his named Xurkitree Badeeyaa. The named Xurkitree actually danced to avoid being hit by Primarina's Sparkling Aria, and it retaliated by throwing out a powerful Thunderbolt that blasted into and knocked Lana's Primarina out in one hit, netting Kenny a relatively easily scored win in the top eight of the Manalo Conference.
Following up from that was the final battle in the Manalo Conference top eight, Trip versus Draco. Draco's Pokémon of choice this time was a Seviper, and as such there was little Draco could have done as Trip chose to use his named Celesteela Space Kitta. Seviper's Poison Tail attack was foiled because Draco had no idea that Trip's amazing Pokémon was part steel type, and said partial steel type dropped straight down with a Heavy Slam, bodying Seviper and knocking it out in one hit, netting the win for Trip and seeing him make it into the top four of the Manalo Conference.
...
That night as the heroes celebrated Ash, Kenny, and Trip making it into the top four of the Manalo Conference, Dawn reflected upon how everyone who won in the top eight and made it into the top four had done so using Ultra Beasts; Ash's Naganadel, Ideku's Nihilego, Kenny's Xurkitree, and Trip's Celesteela. No wonder Lusamine and the others at Aether Foundation were concerned about what could go down if Ultra Beasts rampaged unchecked in Alola. Just look at what four who were tamed and under trainer authority were able to do; imagine at least that much, but all wild and going coo-coo bananas.
Dawn also reflected upon the match-ups for the top four; Trip and Kenny would be facing off against one another, and Ash would be battling Ideku. The winners of those two rounds would then battle one another in the final round, and the winner there would become Champion of Alola. From what Dawn figured, Ash here actually had fairly poor odds of winning; true, he had some heavy hitters in the form of Naganadel and the yet to be revealed to the public Melmetal, but Ideku also had a selection of heavy hitters himself, and he has no reason to not hold back. Depending on choices made, Ash might very well be unable to achieve the destiny here that he had been able to achieve in the anime in Dawn's previous life.
Dawn tried putting that out of her mind as she went to find, and eventually locate, Draco the boy from Galar. To Dawn's surprise, Draco was chatting it up with Lana, as Lana was accompanied by her dad and little sisters Harper and Sarah, while Draco had his little brothers Lucius and Scorpius. Dawn got it that Draco was asking Lana's dad and sisters if any of them knew where he could find 'that charming and cute Kaori girl' that they met at the park, unaware that Lana was that very girl in question, just out of the disguise that only Lana herself and Dawn were aware was being used at the time.
Getting Draco's attention, Dawn after saying she could help him find 'Kaori' later proceeded to get right to the point and ask him about his birth region of Galar. Happy to share Galarian tales with those outside of the Galarian isle, Draco proceeded to regale Dawn with what all he remembered about the land he was born and raised in up until his family had to move to Alola for business. Draco's Sandaconda was a Pokémon from Galar, although Seviper was caught in Hoenn when Draco's family went there on a vacation; Draco also owned an Arbok, and Lucius and Scorpius each owned a Silicobra.
Dawn also asked what the Pokémon League in Galar was like, and Draco told her info that aligned with what Dawn remembered from her previous life, even how the current Champion of Galar, Leon, is utterly undefeated, and there's rumors going about that Leno may be getting up to business in the World Coronation Series, a world-wide tournament to determine who is officially the strongest trainer in the world. Dawn had no idea how the end of the Galar anime in her previous life played out, as Dawn, then Don, died in mid-December of 2021 of an asthma attack.
Dawn kept up to date with the anime in her previous life by going off of Japanese broadcasting order, and as such the last episode Dawn in her previous life saw before her fatal asthma attack was the one where Ash and Goh got on a train and a Spiritomb was involved. Dawn got it in secret from Kenny that the last episode he saw before he died saving a kitten from getting run over involved Ash helping the Gengar he caught gain the ability to Gigantimax; Trip, who died in late May 2022 in his previous life as Piper, saw the episode where Ash returned to Alola and took part in a battle royal where Gladion used a shiny Nihilego.
...But that was it. That all is the extent of the reborn trainers' collective knowledge of the anime in their previous life; after the final point that Trip saw, everything would be utterly uncharted territory for Dawn, Kenny, and Trip. They would not be able to rely upon past life knowledge of the anime after that point, meaning that they were going to have to figure things out for themselves. And the point was fast approaching, as the last episode Trip was familiar with took place in the Galar anime, and that portion was coming up immediately after the Alola business finished up.
The prospect of entering uncharted territory filled Dawn with some trepidation... and an equal amount of excitement.
END, CHAPTER TWO-HUNDRED AND THIRTY-SIX
Author's notes;
This chapter covers the first few bits of the Manalo Conference, where things are done slightly differently to get to the top sixteen. As for the top sixteen itself, it's still got some familiar faces, but there are a number of new faces there too. The top sixteen and top eight rounds are blown through, and the top four sees Ash, Ideku, Trip, and Kenny all facing off to see who will become the Champion of Alola here. As for Dawn, she contemplates how the reborn trainers' group's knowledge of the anime in their previous life ends in the Galar anime, and sometime well before the Masters Eight tournament.
They'll be entering uncharted waters in the next saga in this story, and the prospect had Dawn equally worried and excited. But that't not here nor there. Anyway, the next chapter will see the Manalo Conference continue onward, and a certain someone does some less than honest work to ensure that they get an outcome that agrees with their selective sensibilities. How this will play out is yet to be seen, so until then take care.
