Episode 161: Whirl Cup Semifinals
After finding out he's battling Lana next, Sora goes over his strategy to battle Lana. He found out that he's gonna be using three Pokémon as well as Lana. He was thinking of which one of his Pokémon he was gonna use against Lana. Blastoise, Feraligatr, Quagsire, Qwilfish, Mantine, Octillery, Kingler, Azumarill, and Golduck stood before Sora.
"Okay, which one of you wants to take a shot," Sora said. Sora's Water-type Pokémon were all going at it all at once. "Hey, settle down, guys! I can only use two at a time!" He was thinking mighty long and hard and he made a decision. "Okay, I thought it over. I know you're itching for a rematch, Octillery. I can tell you weren't too happy about losing since you were a Remoraid, but I did promise it'll turn out better the next time." Octillery beamed as he squeaked. "As for the other two, I'm going to say, it's gonna be you, Kingler and Mantine." The crab-like Pokémon beamed as Qwilfish and Azumarill pouted a little. "Sorry, guys, but I might have you battling next time. It'll be worth it."
Meanwhile, Lana was going her plan on battling Sora. She chose her Vaporeon, Poliwhirl, and Corsola against him. She figured Corsola's Mirror Coat will come in handy against any special attacks thrown at her.
"I know Sora's gonna be tougher to beat than the last time, and I wanna be ready for him; ready to give him a real run for his money," Lana said.
On the next morning, the young man from before dialed on his smartphone and made contact with the police.
"Hello, police. I got word that someone is plotting to steal the Sea Spirit from Maya. Just giving you a heads-up," the young man said before breaking contact. He chuckled to himself. "Got ya now, old lady."
Meanwhile, Jessie sneezed a bit.
"You better not be catching a cold, Jess!" James said.
"I just have a feeling someone was just talking about me," Jessie said.
"Here we go again," Meowth deadpanned.
"Bah, who cares? We're gonna get my Sea Spirit and be out of here," Jessie said. She dialed a number and spoke. "Hello, police, I'm calling to say that the Sea Spirit will soon be mine by the end of the Whirl Cup tournament. And there's nothing you can do stop me!"
Over to the police station, the officer hangs up and informs his superior officer.
"Captain, I just received another phone call regarding the Sea Spirit, and it sounds more threatening than the last one," the officer said.
"Jenny's on guard duty, so we better let her know what's going on," the police captain said.
Back at the Whirl Cup in a few hours later, Misty has won her battle against her next opponent.
"And Misty has triumphed and will be moving on in the semifinals! And now our next battle will be moving on in a few moments!" The announcer announced.
Over to the stand where Maya is overseeing the battles, a police officer went up to Officer Jenny. She follows the officer out of sight. Two other police officers stayed at their post.
"What is it now?" Officer Jenny asked.
"We recieved another call regarding the Sea Spirit," the officer explained.
"And?" Officer Jenny asked.
"The second call sounded more threatening than the first one. The person or persons who made that call probably will stop at nothing to get it," the officer said.
"We can't let that happen," Officer Jenny stated. "Track to where the number came from and move in." The police officer saluted and went off. Officer Jenny returned to her post.
Over to Team Rocket, Jessie smiled all giddy knowing that the threatening phone call she made had worked its magic.
"I think they're starting to get nervous!" Jessie sang. She then started dancing with joy. "I think I finally outdone myself!"
"If you ask me, I think we were better off selling those hot dogs, that wasn't so bad," Meowth said. Wobbufet pops out of his Pokéball and opens with a salute.
"Wobbufet!" Wobbufet said.
"But Jessie, how are going to steal it with all of those guards standing around? " James asked. Jessie smiled all giddily.
"Yes, but I have a little plan," Jessie said, waving her index finger. "Thanks to my little phone call, every guard in the stadium is surrounding the Sea Spirit, they'll never expect our aerial attack." James and Meowth was on board to that plan.
"That's brilliant, Jessie! Their guard is up for something going down!" James praised.
"And things are looking up for us!" Meowth added.
"Yes, that's right!" Jessie said. She chuckled to herself.
"Our second battle is about to begin! Pokémon League Champion Sora Ketchum from Pallet Town versus Lana from Konikoni City! I wonder what kind of battle these two youngsters are gonna give us!" The announcer announced.
"Trainers! The both of you may use three Pokémon each! The battle will be over when all three of your Pokémon are unable to continue!" The referee instructed. Sora and Lana didn't waste any time choosing their first Pokémon.
"Go! Octillery!" Sora called out.
"Go! Corsola!" Lana called out.
Octillery and Corsola both came out right at the same time.
"Begin the battle!" The referee called out.
"Octillery! Use Ice Beam!" Sora ordered. Octillery fired Ice Beam at the Coral Pokémon.
"Octillery starts things up a chilling Ice Beam! How would Lana respond?" The announcer asked.
"Corsola! Use Mirror Coat!" Lana ordered. Corsola uses Mirror Coat to reflect Octillery's Ice Beam.
"Octillery's Ice Beam is sent back at Octillery like a tennis racket!" The announcer announced.
"Octillery! Jump in the water to dodge!" Sora called out. Octillery jumped in the water to dodge his own attack.
"A close call for Octillery! It's such a close shave to escape from its own attack just by leaping into the water to dodge! But I think Lana has the same idea!" The announcer announced.
"Corsola! Go after Octillery!" Lana called out. Corsola dove in the water to pursue the Jet Pokémon.
"And Corsola goes after Octillery in the water, turning it into a water battle!" The announcer announced.
"Use Spike Cannon!" Lana ordered. Corsola fired Spike Cannon at Octillery, dealing some damage.
"Better play it cool. Corsola will just use Mirror Coat whenever I use any one of his beam attacks," Sora said. He then gets an idea. "Wait, Octillery can squirt ink from his mouth. It'll be worth a shot."
"Corsola! Use Spike Cannon!" Lana ordered.
"Let out your ink!" Sora called out. Octillery spews ink all around himself, catching Lana by surprise. The ink spreads all around the water.
"Look at that! Octillery has created an underwater smokescreen by using its ink defense!" The announcer announced.
"I think I know what Sora is doing!" Kairi said.
"What do you think he's doing?" Tracey asked.
"Sora must have figured out Octillery's ink defense for his advantage! He's really making it hard for Corsola!" Kairi said.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu said.
"Eevee!" Angel said.
"Toge, Toge!" Togepi chirped.
"Pichu!" The Spiky-eared Pichu shouted.
"Pichu!" The Shiny Pichu shouted.
"I knew Sora was planning something. Better not rush in blind. Corsola! Jump out of the water!" Lana said. Corsola jumps out of the water and looked around for her opponent.
"Corsola's trying to find Octillery and it doesn't look like Octillery is gonna make it easy for Corsola!" The announcer announced. Octillery sticks his head out of the water.
"Behind you!" Lana shouted.
"Use Psybeam!" Sora ordered. Octillery fired a Psybeam at Corsola just when she turned around, giving her no time to respond. Corsola ends up being confused.
"Corsola is now confused from that Psybeam!" The announcer announced.
"Use Spike Cannon!" Lana ordered. Corsola charges at a pillar and hits it hard, because of her confusion.
"Ooh, I have got to tell you, I felt that from up here! Corsola's really in trouble now!" The announcer announced.
"Use Ice Beam!" Sora ordered. Octillery fired Ice Beam at Corsola, freezing her. "Now, use Octazooka!" Octillery fired Octazooka at Corsola, landing a hit. She splashes in the water, knocked out.
"Corsola is unable to battle! Octillery wins!" The referee announced.
"Sora takes the early lead in the battle! And it looks like the ink is clearing up nicely!" The announcer announced as the ink cleared up completely. Lana calls Corsola back.
"You battled well, Corsola. Get some deserved rest. I figured his Octillery has grown stronger since evolving from a Remoraid. But my next Pokémon will make things even harder," Lana said, taking out a Dive Ball and threw it. "Go! Poliwhirl!" Her Pokéball opened and Poliwhirl came out to battle.
"Lana's next Pokémon is a Poliwhirl! Will Sora be sticking with Octillery or will he make a switch?" The announcer asked.
"Can't use Bubble Beam or Octazooka because of Poliwhirl's Water Absorb. But I can use one of two! Use Ice Beam!" Sora ordered. Octillery fired Ice Beam at the Tadpole Pokémon.
"Dodge and use Ice Punch!" Lana ordered. Poliwhirl dodges and lands an icy punch onto Octillery.
"Poliwhirl lands an Ice Punch onto Octillery!" The announcer announced. Sora took out Octillery's Pokéball and calls Octillery back to rest. "Sora calls Octillery back into its Pokéball, so now Sora will have to make a switch!" Sora took out a Pokéball another Pokéball and threw it.
"Your turn, Kingler!" Sora called out. Kingler emerged from inside, ready to go. He clamps his pincers.
"Sora's next Pokémon is a Kingler! Judging how this Kingler looks, it looks like a tough opponent to beat!" The announcer announced.
"Poliwhirl! Use Double Slap!" Lana ordered. Poliwhirl jumped in the water and swam towards Kingler.
"Now Poliwhirl is heading right towards Kingler, so it's just standing there, not moving an inch!" The announcer announced. Poliwhirl jumped out to slap Kingler.
"Vise Grip!" Sora ordered. Kingler grabs Poliwhirl before it could land a few slaps with his large pincer. Kingler held Poliwhirl tight.
"Kingler has stopped Poliwhirl cold with its Vise Grip! It looks like Poliwhirl has bitten off more than it could chew against this opponent!" The announcer announced.
"Try to get loose!" Lana called out.
"Let Poliwhirl go now!" Sora said. Kingler gave Poliwhirl a toss. "Use Mud Bomb!" Kingler fired a Mud Bomb and it gives out a muddy explosion upon contact. Poliwhirl fell in the water and floats on its back, beaten.
"Poliwhirl is unable to battle! Kingler wins!" The referee announced.
"That's two Lana has lost to Sora! She's down to her last Pokémon, so is she gonna make a comeback or will Sora make another perfect attendance victory?" The announcer asked. Lana calls Poliwhirl back inside.
"It's okay, Poliwhirl. You did your best," Lana said. She took out one her Dive Ball and threw it. "Your turn now, Vaporeon!" Her Dive Ball opened and her Vaporeon came out to battle.
"And Lana's final Pokémon is a Vaporeon!" The announcer announced.
"Vaporeon looks strong, so we better be careful, Kingler," Sora said. The Pincer Pokémon nodded, understanding.
"Vaporeon! Use Aurora Beam!" Lana ordered. Vaporeon fired an Aurora Beam at right at Kingler.
"Jump in the water to dodge!" Sora called out. Kingler jumps in the water and dodges Vaporeon's Aurora Beam.
"Jump in the water, Vaporeon!" Lana said. Vaporeon jumps into the water and goes after Kingler. "Fire Hydro Pump! Full power!" Vaporeon fires a more powerful Hydro Pump. Kingler is hit hard and struck the wall behind him. Kingler is knocked out.
"Kingler is unable to battle! Vaporeon wins!" The referee announced.
"And Lana has finally taken down one of Sora's Pokémon, leaving two more to go!" The announcer announced. Sora calls Kingler back and he smiled.
"You did great, Kingler. Rest up," Sora said. He smiled at Lana as he readies Octillery's Pokéball and threw it. "Back to action! Octillery!" His Pokéball opened and Octillery reentered the battlefield.
"Octillery returns to the battlefield!" The announcer announced.
"I'm not gonna fall for the same trick twice, Sora! Vaporeon! Blend in!" Lana called out. Vaporeon blends in the water, making it difficult for Octillery to see his opponent.
"Vaporeon has disappeared into the water and I can't tell where it could be hiding! It could be anywhere!" The announcer announced.
"Stay cool, Octillery! Shoot Ice Beam until you find it!" Sora said. Octillery fired an Ice Beam all around, making some icebergs.
"Octillery fires Ice Beam right in front of it, trying to find Vaporeon! But it's nowhere to be seen!" The announcer announced.
"Use Hydro Pump!" Lana ordered. Vaporeon jumped out of the water and fired Hydro Pump.
"Use Psybeam to block!" Sora called out. Hydro Pump came too fast for Octillery to fire Psybeam and got hit hard. Octillery was knocked out.
"Octillery is unable to battle! Vaporeon wins!" The referee announced.
"Lana is making a big push to make a huge comeback against Sora! What will he do next?" The announcer asked as Sora called back Octillery.
"Don't sweat it, Octillery. You earned a good rest," Sora said. He took out his next Pokéball. "The rest will be up to you." He threw it. "Your turn now, Mantine!" His Pokéball opened and Mantine emerged from inside and prepared to battle.
"Sora's final Pokémon is a Mantine! Will it make up for Octillery and Kingler's downfall or will Mantine go down and hard?" The announcer asked.
"That's gotta be the same Mantyke he caught when I met him. I wonder how strong that Mantine is," Lana said.
"Okay, Mantine. Vaporeon is hiding somewhere and it'll show up, so be on your guard," Sora said. Mantine nodded.
"Use Hydro Pump!" Lana ordered. Vaporeon fired Hydro Pump while invisible. That gave away its location. Sora looked to the right.
"Wing Attack on your right!" Sora ordered. Mantine heads towards where it came from, but didn't land a hit. Mantine looked around.
"It looks like Mantine's having a hard time finding its opponent just like Octillery! Sora will have to think of a plan and quick!" The announcer announced. Sora looked at the water and he gets an idea.
"I think I got an idea. Mantine! Use Whirlpool on the water!" Sora ordered. Mantine starts to swim around and around, faster and faster and he creates a a giant whirlpool around the battlefield. Vaporeon is being sucked up into the whirlpool.
"Mantine is making good use of that Whirlpool, and it looks like Vaporeon is caught in the mix!" The announcer announced.
"That's a good strategy!" Tracey said.
"Sora figured if he couldn't find Vaporeon, he would whirlpool the whole battlefield and it worked! Go for it, Sora!" Kairi cheered.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu cheered.
"Eevee!" Angel added.
"I thought it was perfect!" Lana said.
"Okay, Mantine! Use Bullet Seed!" Sora ordered. Mantine fired Bullet Seed at the Bubble Jet Pokémon, dealing some heavy damage. "Use Wing Attack!" Mantine flew at Vaporeon and lands a hit, sending Vaporeon flying. The attack results in a knockout.
"Vaporeon is unable to battle! Mantine wins! Sora is the winner!" The referee announced.
"Sora has defeated Lana and is now moving on in the semifinals of the Whirl Cup!" The announcer announced as Lana calls her Vaporeon back and smiled.
"You gave it your all, Vaporeon. Have yourself a good rest," Lana said.
"Great job, Mantine. You were awesome out there," Sora said. Mantine beamed.
After the battle, Kairi, Tracey, and the Pokémon met up with Sora. Lana shows up to them.
"Great job, Sora. The scoreboard between us is now 1 to 1," Lana said.
"I didn't know we were keeping score," Sora joked. He smiled. "Getting serious, you would have had me if I haven't thought of that Whirlpool trick."
"I know. Thanks for that great battle, Sora," Lana said.
"Same to you, Lana," Sora said, shaking her hand.
A little later, Sora checked Kingler, Octillery, and Mantine in the Pokémon Center to be healed from their injuries. Lana did the same thing with her Pokémon. It didn't take long for them to be completely healed.
"Here you go, Sora. Your Pokémon are all fighting fit," Nurse Joy said.
"Thanks, Nurse Joy," Sora said, taking his Pokémon back. Nurse Joy and turned to Lana.
"And here are your Pokémon, Lana. One hundred percent healed," Nurse Joy said.
"Thank you," Lana said.
Trinity shows up to them with a smile.
"Very impressive, you two," Trinity said. Everyone turned to see her.
"Who are you?" Sora asked.
"Trinity, good to see you," Kairi said.
"You too, Kairi," Trinity said.
Sora looked at his girlfriend with a confusion.
"Kairi, you know her?" Sora asked.
"She showed up when I caught that Chinchou while you were training," Kairi said.
"I assumed she was competing in the Whirl Cup. It wasn't hard for me to figure out it was you who was battling in the Whirl Cup when she referred to you as her boyfriend. I watched your matches and I was amazed by your strength," Trinity said.
"Thanks," Sora said. "And good luck."
"Same to you for your next battle, Sora," Trinity said.
A second later, Misty walks in.
"Sora, I'm glad I found you. I just found out who you'll be up against next," Misty said.
"Yeah? Who?" Sora asked.
"Me. We're battling each other tomorrow," Misty said. Sora grinned as he looked at the Cerulean City Gym Leader.
"I'm gonna guess you've been hoping for this turnout," Sora said.
"A small part of me have been hoping for a rematch against you. I'm not planning on losing to you for a third time," Misty said.
"Just throw everything you've got at me," Sora said.
"I plan on it," Misty said, shaking Sora's hand.
That night, Sora got out his Pokémon Box and he exchanged Octillery, Mantine, and Kingler for Kabutops, Poliwrath, and Tentacruel.
On the next day, Sora and Misty enters the battlefield, ready for their rematch. Team Rocket were at the booth where Maya and a squadron of police officers are currently guarding the Sea Spirit. Jessie chuckled.
"My plan worked. Those guards aren't fooling around," Jessie said.
"And neither are we," Meowth said.
"Just how are we gonna snatch that Sea Spirit anyway, Jessie?" James asked.
"I'll think of one. Don't you worry," Jessie said.
"You think you can think of one before my legs fall asleep?" James asked.
"Shut up!" Jessie snapped at him.
"The first match of the day have begun with Sora and Misty going at it!" The announcer announced as Sora and Misty each took out a Pokéball and held it.
"Same rules as the same round! Each one of you will use three Pokémon each, and the battle will be over when all three are unable to continue battling! Begin!" The referee announced. Sora and Misty threw their Pokéballs.
"Go! Azumarill!" Sora called out.
"Misty calls: Starmie!" Misty called out.
Azumarill and Starmie both came out at once to battle each other.
"Misty starts things up with her Starmie while Sora has sent out his Azumarill!" The announcer announced.
"Your Azumarill is cute with that pink ribbon its tail. Cute or not, I'm not gonna go easy on you! Starmie! Use Swift!" Misty ordered.
"Azumarill! Use Bubble Beam!" Sora called out. Starmie and Azumarill fired their attacks at each other and they hit each other.
"Sora and Misty both make a good start by landing a hit onto each other! Judging by how it's starting, it's gonna be epic!" The announcer announced.
"Starmie! Use Rapid Spin!" Misty ordered.
"Azumarill! Use Aqua Tail!" Sora ordered. Azumarill swings her tail and lands a hit onto Starmie before it could land a hit. "Use Ice Punch!" Azumarill lands an icy punch onto Starmie.
"Azumarill lands a couple of hits onto Starmie!" The announcer announced.
"Use Psychic!" Misty ordered. Starmie lifts Azumarill into the air.
"It looks like Starmie's starting to make a comeback with that Psychic!" The announcer announced.
"Bring Azumarill down!" Misty called out. Azumarill is slammed on the platform. "Now, use Hydro Pump!" Starmie fired Hydro Pump right at the Aqua Rabbit Pokémon.
"Azumarill! Hydro Pump!" Sora ordered. Azumarill fired her own Hydro Pump and blocked Starmie's Hydro Pump.
"Azumarill and Starmie makes good use of Hydro Pump, and the both of them are holding on! Which one will overpower the other?" The announcer asked. The two Water-type Pokémon held on and then Starmie started to push back and struck Azumarill on the mark.
"It looks like Starmie's Hydro Pump is much stronger than Azumarill's," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Toge, Toge," Togepi chirped.
"That's because Starmie is more experienced in battle than Azumarill is. It doesn't look like Azumarill is going to last much longer out there," Tracey said.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu shouted.
"Pichu!" Both Pichu also shouted.
Sora calls back Azumarill and took out his next Pokéball and threw it.
"Your turn now, Kabutops!" Sora called out. Kabutops emerged from inside.
"And Sora's second Pokémon is the long extinct Pokémon Kabutops! This should be interesting to watch!" The announcer announced.
"Starmie! Use Psychic!" Misty ordered.
"In the water, Kabutops!" Sora called out. Kabutops jumped in the water before Starmie could land a hit with Psychic. The Shellfish Pokémon swims towards Kabutops. Misty sees Kabutops coming by swimming.
"Oh no!" Misty exclaimed.
"Use Slash!" Sora ordered. Kabutops slashed at Starmie when he got close. "Use Rock Slide!" Kabutops unleashed Rock Slide and sends the rocks at the Mysterious Pokémon and splashed in the water on its back with its gem blinking.
"Starmie is unable to battle! Kabutops wins!" The referee announced.
"Sora takes the early lead in the battle against Cerulean City's Gym Leader, but she doesn't look like the type to call it quits just yet!" The announcer announced. Misty calls back her Starmie.
"You did your best, Starmie. Get some rest," Misty said kindly. She smiled. "Nice one, Sora! You trained hard! Now here comes my next one!" She took out her next Pokéball and threw it. "Misty calls: Kingdra!" Her Pokéball opened and her Kingdra came out to battle.
"Misty's second Pokémon is her Kingdra? Is Sora gonna switch Pokémon or will he be sticking with his Kabutops?" The announcer asked. Sora called Kabutops back.
"I'll save you for later, Kabutops. Get some rest for right now," Sora said. He took out Azumarill's Pokéball and threw it. "Azumarill! Back to action!" His Pokéball opened and Azumarill has reappeared onto the battlefield.
"And Azumarill's back out to battle! It looks like Sora has done his homework, because it's common knowledge that Dragon-type moves will have zero effect on Fairy-type Pokémon!" The announcer announced.
"Well, I won't need any Dragon-type moves to deal with Sora's Azumarill! I have my own moves! And I'm gonna use them, too! Kingdra! Use Hydro Pump!" Misty ordered. Kingdra fires Hydro Pump right at the Aqua Rabbit Pokémon.
"Azumarill! Dodge and use Play Rough!" Sora ordered. Azumarill dodges and heads right towards Kingdra and gives Kingdra a series of beatings with Play Rough.
"A super-effective hit on Azumarill's part!" The announcer announced.
"Kingdra! Use Flash Cannon!" Misty ordered. Kingdra fired Flash Cannon and it deals a critical hit onto her.
"And Kingdra fights back with Flash Cannon, scoring a critical hit!" The announcer announced.
"That had to deal some heavy damage," Kairi said.
"Normally, Steel-type moves won't do much damage on Water-type Pokémon, but because Azumarill is a Fairy-type, it inflicted some normal damage, but that's not what's getting to me," Tracey said.
"What is?" Kairi asked.
"What's getting to me is Kingdra's ability, Sniper. It strenghtens critical hits to inflict triple the damage rather than double," Tracey said.
"If what you're saying is true, then Azumarill's not gonna last much longer like she was almost taken out by Starmie," Kairi said.
"Flash Cannon again!" Misty ordered. Kingdra fired another Flash Cannon and it deals Azumarill some extra damage, resulting in a knockout.
"Azumarill is unable to battle! Kingdra wins!" The referee announced.
"Now both Trainers are down to two Pokémon each! It looks like it'll be a seesaw battle between the both of them!" The announcer announced. Sora calls Azumarill back inide.
"You did your best, Azumarill. You earned a good rest," Sora said. He took out a Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Poliwrath!" His Pokéball opened and Poliwrath came out to battle.
"And Sora's third Pokémon is a Poliwrath! Let's see if Poliwrath will turn things around!" The announcer announced. Misty looked at Poliwrath with her eyes sparkling.
"Wow! First you show me a cute Azumarill, but now I got a cool-looking Poliwrath! I'm so envious of you!" Misty exclaimed with joy.
"How about you focus on the battle! Poliwrath! Use Power-Up Punch!" Sora ordered. Poliwrath charges at Kingdra with a Power-Up Punch.
"Use Dragon Pulse!" Misty ordered. Kingdra fired Dragon Pulse, landing a hit.
"Poliwrath takes some damage from Kingdra's Dragon Pulse! How about that!" The announcer announced.
"Poliwrath! Use Body Slam!" Sora ordered. Poliwrath slammed his body at Kingdra, resulting in a paralysis.
"Kingdra's now paralyzed from Poliwrath's Body Slam!" The announcer announced.
"Use Hydro Pump!" Sora ordered. Poliwrath fired Hydro Pump at Kingdra, landing a hit. Kingdra was now knocked out.
"Kingdra is unable to battle! Poliwrath wins!" The referee announced.
"Misty has one Pokémon left to use! Now which one will she use next?" The announcer asked. Misty calls Kingdra back and took out another Pokéball and threw it.
"Misty calls: Lapras!" Misty called out. Lapras emerged from inside, ready to battle.
"And Misty's final Pokémon is a Lapras!" The announcer announced.
"That Lapras looks tough. Okay, Lapras is an Ice-type, so Poliwrath is a Fighting-type, and Kabutops is a Rock-type. But I'm gonna have to play it cool," Sora said. "Poliwrath! Power-Up Punch!" Poliwrath came at Lapras with a Power-Up Punch.
"Lapras! Use Ice Beam!" Misty ordered. Lapras fired Ice Beam at Poliwrath, freezing him. "Finish it with Body Press!" Lapras rushes at Poliwrath and lands Body Press on the Tadpole Pokémon, resulting in a knockout.
"Poliwrath is unable to battle! Lapras wins!" The referee announced.
"Now it's Sora who's down to one more Pokémon! It's gonna go either way between the two of them!" The announcer announced. Sora calls Poliwrath back inside.
"You battled hard and you were great. Get some rest," Sora said. He took out Kabutops's Pokéball and threw it. "Kabutops! Back to action!" Kabutops came back out to battle.
"And Kabutops is sent back out to battle against Lapras! Will a Rock-type like Kabutops be able to take on an Ice-type like Lapras? That's why we're here to find out!" The announcer announced.
"Lapras! Use Body Press!" Misty ordered. Lapras swam towards Kabutops to land a hit onto Kabutops.
"Dodge and use Rock Slide!" Sora ordered. Kabutops jumps and hurls Rock Slide at Lapras, dealing some damage.
"Use Hydro Pump!" Misty ordered. Lapras fired Hydro Pump and it hits Kabutops.
"Both of these Pokémon are really giving it to each other!" The announcer announced.
"Use Body Press!" Misty ordered.
"Use Slash!" Sora ordered. Kabutops jumps and slashed at Lapras before it could land a hit onto Kabutops. "Okay, use Bubble Beam!" Kabutops fired Bubble Beam at Lapras, dealing some damage.
"Use Body Press again!" Misty ordered. Lapras charges at Kabutops and slammed its body against Kabutops.
"Lapras has dealt some heavy damage against Kabutops! It looks like it's all over for Sora and his Kabutops!" The announcer announced.
"Use Hydro Pump!" Sora ordered. Kabutops fired Hydro Pump at Lapras, pushing Lapras off of him. "Okay, Kabutops! Rock Slide!" Kabutops hurls Rock Slide at Lapras, dealing some heavy damage.
"Kabutops is pushing back despite being crushed by that Body Press!" The announcer announced.
"Slash!" Sora ordered. Kabutops slashed at Lapras and the Transport Pokémon goes down for the count.
"Lapras is unable to battle! Kabutops wins! Sora wins the battle!" The referee announced.
"And it'll be Sora who will be moving on in the finals!" The announcer announced.
Over to Team Rocket, they stood there, waiting for Jessie to come up with a move, but she didn't think it as thoroughly as she originally thought.
"Got anything, Jess? How are we going to swipe it without one or two of those guards seeing us?" Meowth asked.
"I hope you make up your mind soon, because I'm getting cramped from standing here!" James said.
"I'm thinking, I'm thinking," Jessie said, sweating. She sweats until she finally makes up her mind. "We'll steal it tomorrow!" James and Meowth did an anime-style fall, knowing that they stood there for nothing.
After the battle, Misty dropped her Pokémon to be healed. Sora, Kairi, Tracey, and the Pokémon approached her.
"How are your Pokémon doing, Misty?" Sora asked.
"They're healing, but I know they'll be okay. Congratulations on your victory. You deserved it," Misty said.
"Thanks. I would say the exact same thing if you were the one who beat me," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"He's right, Misty. I can tell you improved since we met in Cerulean City," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Thank you, Sora, Kairi. The both of you are really nice. I wish you luck in your next match," Misty said.
"Thanks, Misty," Sora said.
Now that the semifinals of the Whirl Cup has concluded, now the finals are just around the corner, so it's only a matter of who's gonna make it in that will decide who be the winner. Stay tuned if you want to see some more excitement.
