A flashback.
"Pansy, you don't seem yourself lately," Neville said as she sat in the headmaster's office.
"Really Neville, you are calling me to your office to discuss my deportment are you? Reminds me of the old days," Pansy said.
Neville laughed and Fawkes the phoenix looked at him with an expression, if a bird can have one, that Pansy took as admiration. Maybe after everything they've been through, Neville's ability to laugh is one of the best reasons that he was made headmaster. He had been kind to Pansy, that was certain, and the warmth that he radiated helped the children feel at home and safe at Hogwarts, and that was something that they all needed after the dark times they'd been through. Neville had found love and a family with Hannah Abbott. The two of them hosted events and Pansy was secretly jealous that he, and most all of their old classmates had children that were here at Hogwarts or Beauxbatons. He was so…fulfilled, that it made her sad, jealous and angry all at once.
"Pansy I only want the best for you," Neville said as he stood and walked to his small table of tiny silver machines. They were dormant except for one with spindly legs that was emitting steam from a curved pipe. He stared at it for a moment before continuing. "And I think that you and Jack made a lovely couple."
"You mean the man whose memories I have to erase?" she said.
"Yes but," he started, "that doesn't mean you can't see him again." Neville said. "The holidays will be here before you know it. Go see him."
"Oh, you recommend I erase his memories and then chat him up at a muggle bar?" she scoffed.
"Pansy, you know you can talk to muggles any time you feel like it. I'm sure there is a way for someone like you to meet him out in the world," Neville said.
"What do you mean, 'someone like me?'" Pansy asked, her eyebrows raised, expecting one of the backhanded comments she received any time she was off Hogwarts proper.
Neville smiled before saying, "A beautiful woman like you, Pansy. You two share a connection, I am sure he would find you intriguing, even if he couldn't remember your time together. You'll figure something out, Professor."
Pansy knew that their discussion was over and now two little machines were spitting out steam. She left Neville's office, not wondering about the little machines or anything he did really. Being headmaster made him weird, she thought.
She was going to miss Jack. It was true, they shared something. Beyond physical attraction or simple loneliness, it seemed like they were kindred souls. She really liked him, and from what she'd experienced so far, he seemed to like her too. She'd like to do something special and memorable for their last night together even if he wouldn't remember it.
Hmm, she thought. She had to erase his memory, but that didn't mean she couldn't also modify it a little, did it. As she went back into her room, she flicked her wand to make up her bed, and the emerald green silk sheets fluttered as they landed back on the bed, perfectly in place. As she gathered her harem costume into a little bag and headed towards the Room of Requirement, she had an idea.
