Nura Nal was fast asleep on a Naltorian shuttle as it landed in London. She awoke to find a ruined city with destroyed buildings, dirt streets, fluctuating power, and fires everywhere. All of the iconic buildings and structures from the 21st century were all gone and many of the skyscrapers had been gutted in the previous wars. It was as if the city had been hit with a nuclear blast, which it had. Nura exited the helicopter in an all-white uniform of pants and jacket. She had long white hair, blue eyes, a pale complexion, and a slender physique.
"Welcome to London," a female Naltorian clerk said to her.
"It's terrible," Nura said disgusted by the city.
"It's not for everyone," the clerk agreed.
Nura entered the Naltorian embassy and waited to be called. "The ambassador will see you now," the ambassador's secretary informed her. Nura went up to the top floor and greeted the male ambassador. On the wall was a monitor of the situation on the European continent in real-time. All lands from France to Ukraine had been taken by the enemy. All human life had been killed, the vegetation scorched, and cities brought down within that area. Humans continued to resist in Spain, Greece, Scandinavia, and Russia to contain the enemy with little success.
"Operation downfall is the human's last-ditch effort to contain the invasion. Their plan is to hit the enemy from all sides and meet in the middle. A lot of good soldiers are going to die tomorrow. There will be thousands, tens of thousands of body bags when this is over. If the humans are defeated, they will lose all hope and this planet will be doomed. I seek a different scenario," the ambassador told Nura.
"So do I. Let's get off this planet before it's too late. Then, you can write a best-selling memoir, a career in politics, a talk show," Nura suggested.
"You misunderstand. I don't want you to sell me. I want you to sell the invasion," the ambassador said.
"Okay, I can write up a Lost Cause narrative," Nura nodded.
"You'll be on the beach during the first wave advising the humans on how to go forward," the ambassador said.
"I'm sorry, the front?" Nura asked incredulously.
"Fronts. We think there will be minimal activity on the coast with little resistance. Something you might be able to tell your grandchildren," the ambassador said.
"I appreciate the offer, ambassador, but I didn't sign up for this. I'm just a diplomatic trainee," Nura said obviously.
"A diplomatic trainee that has amazing abilities. You're first in your class in every category," the ambassador said impressed.
"Which is why I shouldn't be on the front lines...ever," Nura said. "You do what you do, I do what I do. I'm not a soldier...like... at all."
"No, of course not. Which is why I'm embedding you with several hundred thousand humans that are," the ambassador said.
"It's a great honor, Sir, but I'll have to respectfully decline," Nura smirked. "I can't stand the sight of blood, but I can think of some names I could recommend," she said thoughtfully as she recalled all her classmate rivals that had mocked her heritage.
"It's not an offer. It's an order," the ambassador told her.
"Ambassador, I am a female," Nura said and puffed out her chest for emphasis. "As a male, you don't have the authority to...,"
"I've spoken to the Naltorian Council. You're under my command," the ambassador set her straight. "My secretary has all the details. Good luck. You're going to need it."
Nura stood up flabbergasted by this change of events. "Ambassador, if anything should happen to me, a talented young female, you're completely fucked. So, let's stop this charade."
"Are you blackmailing me?" the ambassador asked bluntly.
"Yeah," Nura said obviously.
"Well, okay then. On your way," the ambassador allowed.
"I'm pleased we have an understanding, ambassador," Nura said as she walked out.
"Arrest this woman," the ambassador said softly to his men.
Immediately, a dozen men tackled Nura to the ground and cuffed her. "Take her to the front," the ambassador ordered.
Fortress of Solitude
Brainiac 5 displayed the situation in Europe on the viewing screen. "The human armies numbering several hundred thousand will be leading a counterattack on multiple fronts tomorrow," he said and then identified bases in England, Spain, Greece, Sweden, and Russia.
"What is the enemy?" Mon asked curiously.
Brainiac 5 showed stats and diagrams of the alien invaders. They were tentacle-based creatures with jaws that buried under the ground until ready to strike. They were also able to run across the ground at high speed using ten tentacles or more. "They're called Mimics and these are drones." Brainiac 5 pointed out.
"Who is controlling them?" Mon asked.
"Those would be the alphas. They are rare and well-hidden," Brainiac 5 said showing a larger creature that walked on four limbs made of bound tentacles. "For every alpha, there are an estimated six million drones. Beyond them is the omega, the source of their hive."
"Kill the hive, scatter them," Mon assumed.
"There will be at least a hundred Alphas on the continent for a total of six-to-seven hundred million drones. The alpha has the ability to time-loop the day upon death. If you kill the alpha or the alpha kills itself, the day will be restarted," Brainiac 5 explained.
"Damn," Mon said as he tried to figure out how to win.
"I suggest you evacuate before they colonize the entire planet," Brainiac 5 said.
"So, the planet is fucked?" Mon questioned.
"It is not within my ability or intelligence to defeat this enemy," Brainiac 5 replied.
"Well, they must have a weakness," Mon said frustrated.
"Legend has it that if you cover yourself in the blood of an alpha upon death, you will also have the ability," Brainiac 5 said.
"Well, seeing as how I can't be killed, that's going to be a problem," Mon said arrogantly.
As they were talking, Kara was sulking over the death of Alex. She merely stared ahead not moving as they talked. Suddenly, she got up and joined them. "I'll do it. I'll kill an alpha and lower my power level to nothing so I'll be killed," she volunteered.
"The legend has not been verified. You could simply die," Brainiac 5 said to her.
"I'll take the risk," Kara said sacrificially.
"No way I'm letting a female heroically sacrifice herself in my presence. I'm going to leave," Mon said offended, and then instantly disappeared.
"Your strength and power should not be wasted in this war or this planet. If you seek purpose, I can find a purpose for you," Brainiac 5 offered.
"With my family dead, I have no purpose. I might as well have died in that black hole. I just want to end it all," Kara said softly.
London
The next morning, Nura woke up to being kicked. She was lying on several duffle bags in the middle of a noisy base. "On your feet, maggot," a human sergeant ordered.
"That's no way to address a Naltorian or a female," Nura rebuked him as she got up.
"You're lucky I don't shove my boot up your ass, little girl," the sergeant mocked.
"Hold up, sergeant. I got this," a human master sergeant said walking up to them. "Can I help you, ma'am?"
"Where the hell am I?" Nura asked looking around.
"Forward operating base. You came in with the new recruits," Master Sgt. said to her.
"Do I look like a fresh recruit to you?" Nura asked, still in her white Naltorian uniform.
"No, ma'am, you do not," Master Sgt. admitted.
"I'm Nura Nal of Naltor," Nura stared him down.
"A Naltorian? No Naltorians down here," Master Sgt. said dismissively. "How the hell did you end up in processing?"
"All the same, I'd like to explain that to my commanding officer in Naltor. So, point me to a phone," Nura said forcefully.
"Haven't you heard? We're fixing to invade France. No phone calls in or out," he said.
"El, is it? Well, it's obvious I don't belong here. So, there has to be a way I can make a phone call," Nura pressed.
"I'll get you sorted out, ma'am," he promised.
"Thank you," Nura said appreciatively.
Mon-El, impersonating a human Master Sgt., took Nura to a tent barracks. "You're not taking me to get a phone call, are you?" Nura realized.
"No, I am not. The human race is on the verge of extinction. We need you on the battlefield so we can test your fighting potential. Nothing personal. We just need every man, woman, and alien we can get in this fight," Mon told her.
"I won't fight. You'll be forced to kill me," Nura refused.
"If that is your destiny," Mon said dismissively.
Mon took Nura into the tent where she was surrounded by men. Nura gave them disgusted looks as they worked out, slept, and walked around with their shirts off. "The good news is that there is hope for you. Hope in the form of glorious combat. Battle is the great redeemer. The crucible where all men are forged. On the shore, everyone has the same rank regardless of whatever parasitic elitist snob they used to be," Mon told her.
"I will never fight in combat," Nura told him.
"Trust me on this. Tomorrow, you will be baptized on the field of battle," Mon told her.
The next morning, thousands of aircraft lifted off from London towards France. Meanwhile, amphibious assault ships made their own way. Each soldier was given a slim mech suit with two automatic rifles attached. The rifles would be automatically reloaded by the suit. The mech suit was useful for soldiers getting up and down rough terrain but also slowed them down considerably and had very little protective armor. It was a technology from a previous age, a regression.
Soldiers either dropped down from transporting aircraft or departed from ships onto the beach. Immediately, the Mimics fired upon the invaders with spit-fire capable of slicing through any armor the humans could muster. Aircraft exploded in midair or crashed into the scene. Ships were also getting hit killing all board. Thousands of soldiers were getting mowed down in a constant barrage of artillery fire that was deadly accurate.
Nura looked around unimpressed as soldiers were getting slaughtered and aircraft were falling about her. More importantly, the exploding sand was getting in her perfect blond hair. "Fuck this," Nura said, shedding herself of the cumbersome mech suit.
Suddenly, a Mimic drone attacked her. Nura instantly created an energy shield in front of herself to protect her. The Mimic quickly raced around her to get a hit on her. Nura put her hands up and blasted the drone back a few times with her hands. The drone was undeterred and went for another strike. Nura wrapped the drone in energy cables and then whirled the drone around and around until she splattered it against a downed aircraft.
"Nice," Nura said, proud of herself. She was suddenly hit with a fireball dropping her.
The ground suddenly shook as someone landed hard on the beach. A stunned Nura looked at Supergirl in amazement having never seen a Kryptonian before. Kara eyed the battlefield as the human soldiers hunkered down between sandhills as the Mimics fired non-stop at them with fireball barrages. The Mimics then raced across the sand to force the humans back into the sea. Kara scanned through the smoke with her X-ray vision and saw thousands of drones headed her way. She then saw them moving quickly underneath the sand.
Kara fired heat vision from one side of the field to the other turning the sand to glass. The drones exploded in goo as they were hit. Kara kept it up, firing underneath the ground to stop their tunneling. The human soldiers watched in amazement as Kara engaged drones individually as they tried to spread themselves out. When that didn't work, the Mimics tried to use the human soldiers as a shield. Kara stopped firing her heat vision and took on the drones individually, tearing through them in seconds. The drones attempted to hit Kara from all sides but were unable to get any damage on her. She blasted them with frost breath freezing them instantly and then shattered them.
"You alright?" Kara asked Nura as she was still on her back.
"I'll be fine. I'm not really supposed to be here," Nura said.
Kara scanned her Naltorian physiology. "Well...no shit," she agreed.
Kara then flew up and headed straight for the Mimic army beyond the horizon. Before they could strike her, she unleashed a solar flare with the power of several megatons killing hundreds of thousands of them at once. The humans covered their eyes from the intense light and then were hit with the shockwave.
Day 2
Nura suddenly woke up and found herself back on the duffle bags. "On your feet, maggot," the same sergeant said as he kicked her awake. As expected, Mon acting as a Master Sgt. approached her. He took her to the barracks in the same manner as before and then ended up on the beach the same as before. Nura relived the battle the same as before and witnessed Supergirl arriving like before. This time, Nura made an effort to get to Kara only to get shot in the back. Nura dropped right next to Kara as she was blasting drones with her heat vision. She gave the dying Nura an alarmed look upon seeing the damage.
"Is it bad?" Nura asked.
"You have a hole the size of a baseball in your torso," Kara told her.
"What's a baseball?" Nura wondered.
Kara shook her head sympathetically and walked off. "Wait!" Nura shouted after her.
A drone suddenly emerged from the sand and started whipping its tentacles around. "Holy fuck!" Nura shouted as she was sliced up.
Day 3
Nura was rudely woke up as before on the duffle bags. She immediately ran off to go find Master Sgt. Mon. "You have to listen to me. I know this sounds crazy for someone...like you, but I can see the future. If we invade France, a lot of people are going to die. There's this...Super...girl that's going to be arriving. She doesn't even need our help. Just let her do it," Nura beseeched him.
"I know," Mon said nonchalantly.
"So, you need to cancel this invasion," Nura said obviously.
"Not in the cards. There are things behind the scenes you wouldn't understand. I need you and this army back on that beach," Mon told her.
"But thousands will die," Nura protested. "I could die...again."
"And that is a sacrifice I'm willing to make," Mon smiled. Nura was taken away by soldiers with tape over her mouth to shut her up. On the way to the beach, Nura finally got the tape off her mouth.
"This ship...is going to explode!" she shouted.
As predicted, the aircraft got hit. Everyone quickly dropped off as the aircraft hit the beach. Nura looked around and saw one of her battle buddies about to be crushed by a falling aircraft. At that moment, she felt pity for the human soldier and pushed him out of the way only to get crushed herself.
Day 4
Nura repeated the same day only this time she managed to move her battle buddy out of the way and not get crushed herself. She ran across the beach like a badass only to be slammed by a truck. Kara eyed the dead Nura shaking her head. "Really?"
Day 5
This time, Nura saved her battle buddy from being crushed, avoided the truck, and reached Kara. "Holy shit," Kara said as Nura slammed into her. They both fell into a downed aircraft's hull.
"You have to listen to me. You have to get us both off this beach," Nura said and then blasted a drone above them and to the side of them with her hands. "We have to go now," Nura repeated and then got back to her feet. She blasted a drone right in front of them and then fired continuously at a drone that was crawling along the surface of the hull until it exploded.
Kara watched Nura with wonder. "Come on!" Nura shouted at her.
"Come find me when you wake up," Kara said to her.
"Wait...what?" Nura wondered.
Kara then incinerated Nura on the spot with her heat vision.
Day 6
This time, Nura tried to be really cooperative and earn the trust of her squad. She did some running PT with them around the base with the squad and then attempted to escape only to get run over by a large truck much to the shock and dismay of her squad. "God damn," Mon remarked upon seeing her body.
Day 7
This time, Nura did the same as before and did not get run over by that truck. She used the truck to shield herself as she escaped her squad. After a good search, she finally found the person she was looking for. Unfortunately, there were mechanical claws suspended from the ceiling meant to simulate drones rotating about. Nura expertly avoided the claws and approached Kara who was wearing an all-black workout uniform.
"Super...girl," Nura called out to her.
"Who said you could talk to me?" Kara asked with an icy glare.
"Tomorrow, at the beach, we meet. You told me to find you when I wake up. You know who I am, right?" Nura asked.
Kara scanned Nura and quickly determined she was Naltorian. "Come with me if you want to live," she said escorting her away. "You don't talk to anyone about this but me. We clear?"
"Yes," Nura agreed.
"They know we're coming on the beach tomorrow. Kind of morbid, isn't it?" Kara said.
"Then, why are you not trying to stop the invasion?" Nura asked confused.
"I need to lure the Mimics out in the open away from their omega hive. To do that, I need an invading human army on all fronts," Kara said simply.
"Here's the problem. Every time, you kick ass on the beach. You roast the mother-fuckers and yet the day keeps repeating itself for me," Nura said to her.
"When the Mimics are on the verge of losing, one of their Alphas commits suicide to restart the day. It's their ability which is why they have won every battle and every war they have ever fought in," Kara said simply.
Kara brought Nura over to a secure lab space on the base where she met Brainiac 5 impersonating a human. "This is Nura Nal, the Naltorian," Kara informed him. "She's going to help us."
"How many fingers am I holding behind my back?" Brainiac 5 quizzed.
"How the fuck should I know?" Nura asked exasperated.
"This must be our first conversation," Brainiac 5 realized.
"Who the fuck are you?" Nura asked losing patience.
"I'm Brainiac five. I'm the most intelligent and most knowledgeable entity in this galaxy and perhaps others. I have been analyzing your planet and this planet for hundreds of years," he said.
"No one understands these Mimics better than him," Kara chimed in.
Brainiac 5 used a hologram to inform Nura of the Mimic's abilities. "So, what's the plan? We can't win, we can't lose, we do...what?" Nura asked.
"I'm working on a device that will cut off the alphas from the omega hive. Once that is done, it won't matter if they die or commit suicide. Then, we find and destroy the omega," Brainiac 5 explained.
"If we win the battle too early, the alphas will commit suicide restarting the day. If we stall too long, many thousands of humans will be killed. We still don't know the location of the omega," Kara said. "We need you to give us the right outcome."
"Me?" Nura pointed to herself.
"The enemy can physically restart the day but you can dream the future. They may be able to reset the day, but you can reset the second with your dreams. Right now, you're dreaming," Kara said to her.
"Unless I'm not, in which case, I die here and now," Nura protested. "We should take this to some general," she said of the hologram presentation.
"I am actually in charge of the human armies by impersonating the generals in the field. The buck, so to speak, stops with us," Brainiac 5 replied.
"You don't understand what it's like to be me. I can't tell the difference between a dream and reality. This could be a dream or it could be real life. I could wake up and dream again or I could die. That's what my life is like. I have seen people I know die. I have seen people I've never seen before get born. I've slept with men only to discover it was all a dream. It's all psychosis for me," Nura said to them.
"In time, I will teach you to know the difference between a dream and reality. Isn't that worth fighting for? Isn't that worth dying for?" Brainiac 5 offered.
"So, I get you to the omega hive, and then what?" Nura asked.
"I kill it," Kara said simply.
"Look, I'm not even trained for combat," Nura said obviously.
Kara and Brainiac 5 gave each other looks.
In the training room, the suspended claw machines were in full force. Nura fired at them with her hands while also shielding herself when needing to. Kara and Brainiac 5 watched as she used both offense and defense. "She's a genius," Brainiac 5 remarked.
"So, this is the best Naltor has to offer?" Kara asked unimpressed as Nura slammed into a wall.
"I think I broke something," Nura said as she could no longer move.
"Well...shit," Kara muttered. "I guess we have to start all over," she said as her eyes glowed red.
Day 8
Nura trained with Kara and Brainiac 5 as before but did a little better this time. "You have to not only defend yourself but know how to kill them," Kara said as Nura struggled against the claw machines. Nura suddenly hit the floor with a broken leg.
"Hey, it's just a broken leg. I'm fine," Nura said as Kara walked up to her and blasted her with heat vision. "Come on," Nura said as she was incinerated.
Day 9-17
Nura continued to train with Kara and Brainiac 5 until she was sufficiently trained for the mission ahead. On the last day, Nura and Kara were on the beach. Instead of blasting the entire Mimic army, Kara and Nura walked a few miles on the beach while thousands of soldiers perished and hundreds of aircraft went down in flames. Even so, a drone got a sneak attack on Nura killing her.
Day 18-23
Each time, Kara and Nura went onto the beach, Nura would get killed in some unexpected sneak attack no matter how Kara tried to protect her. Each day, they would map out their approach on the beach but they all ended in failure. Still, with each passing day, Nura started to see Kara as a comrade, a friend even. Finally, Nura decided to not go to the battle at all and ended up in a bar in London. Brainiac 5 approached her and gave her a drink.
"You're everywhere, aren't you?" Nura realized.
"I'm where I need to be," Brainiac 5 replied.
"I feel like Kara is keeping something from me when we're on that beach," Nura said.
"What would be her motive?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"Every time we're on the beach, she talks about her dead sister she left behind a thousand years ago. The thing is, the conversations are always different. They're never the same. I almost feel like I know Alex better than myself at this point," Nura mused.
"Kara was very attached to Alex because her own parents didn't give her the love and validation she needed," Brainiac 5 said.
"Alex must be a saint or some pushover," Nura figured.
"She was neither. She challenged and fought back but the opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. Alex was never indifferent to Kara," Brainiac 5 explained.
"I feel my own people are indifferent to me in a lot of ways. They appreciate my talent, but they look down upon me for my heritage. I mean, how is it my fault an ancestor of mine a thousand years ago was a human hybrid transwoman. At first, I hated him, her, whatever for that... but then I came to realize that my hate should be directed towards my own society," Nura said bitterly.
"When this is over, assuming you live, there will be a place for you in our society. We may love you, may hate you, but we'll never be indifferent to you," Brainiac 5 promised.
Mimic drones swarmed the Thames river and destroyed the entire city killing Nura along with it.
Day 24
After a fierce battle on the beach, Kara and Nura made their way to a settlement. They quietly and quickly took a hovercraft with a trailer behind it. Kara then drove the vehicle down a road away from the battle towards the interior of the continent. The radio on the craft indicated London was already being attacked. "Why didn't you unhook the trailer?" Nura asked.
"I want a place to sleep in at some point," Kara said obviously.
The trailer exploded as a drone tried to get out. "Well...shit," Kara muttered.
Nura fired through the rear window disconnecting the trailer and blasted the drone still inside to nothing. "You know, every day we work together, you like to talk to me," Nura noted.
"I'm a social person," Kara said obviously.
"I mean, you like to talk to me about just Alex," Nura clarified. "I already know the entire history between you two."
"Maybe it's all bullshit just to keep you quiet," Kara said.
"I don't think so," Nura shook her head.
"It's therapy, I suppose. I can't talk to that robot the same way I can talk to you," Kara said.
"But, you don't remember any of these conversations after I die and wake up into another dream. These conversations are only for my benefit," Nura said.
"I don't know how long I'm going to last after this mission. It makes me feel happy to know someone else knows my feelings," Kara said.
"What are you talking about? I'm the one that dies in every dream. You're Supergirl. You're invincible," Nura said incredulously.
"There's one person in this universe that can defeat me...and that's me," Kara said somberly.
"She must have really meant a lot to you," Nura realized.
"Not just her but my adopted parents and my friends. I just got my adopted father back and now he's gone. All I have left is Mon-El and he hates me," Kara said.
"Why does he hate you?" Nura asked curiously.
"I killed his mother, his fleet, and a lot of his people. I ended whatever kingdom he wanted to possess. I'm not sorry I did it, but I understand his feelings," Kara recalled.
"Hearing your stories makes me feel better about my own circumstances," Nura said honestly.
"Well, at least one of us getting something out of this," Kara smirked.
The two found a cottage dwelling that was run down. "We can stay here for the night or until Barney finds the omega," Kara said.
"I heard stories about the great Kryptonian, Superman. They said he could fly around a planet at the speed of light. They said he had X-ray vision. They said he was invincible," Nura said.
"And like everyone else, he's ash and dust," Kara said bitterly.
"I'm just a little confused. Why can't you find the omega yourself and then tell me where it is? Even if the day is reset, I'll still remember it," Nura said.
Kara said nothing to that. "You're stalling this out, aren't you?" Nura realized. "You don't actually want to defeat the Mimics. You're just using me as therapy. I'm the only one that can live months, years even, in one night and you're just dumping all of your emotional baggage onto me. In the meantime, millions of people are dying out there."
"It doesn't matter so long as it's a dream," Kara said dismissively. "When it's the real deal, we'll get the job done right."
"You forget that this is my dream of the future. This is all in my head. You're not getting better from these therapy sessions. When I finally do awake, you're going to be just as fucked up as the first day I met you," Nura pointed out.
"And how am I supposed to change, Nura? Your dreams are deterministic futures. I have no choice but to act this way. How can I manipulate your own dreams of the future?" Kara asked.
Nura gave her a dumbfounded look. "So, let's just have a glass of wine and curl up by the fire," Kara suggested.
"We should just reset," Nura said.
"Whoa, that's not necessary," Kara stopped her.
"I'm tired, I'm hurt, fuck it," Nura said as she pointed a pistol to her head.
"Let's have some coffee first," Kara suggested and worked to make some around the house they were in.
"Wait...this is real, isn't it?" Nura realized.
"You tell me," Kara shrugged.
Nura put the pistol away genuinely confused as to whether this was a dream or not. Kara activated a hologram emitter from Brainiac 5. "Do you know the omega's location?" she asked impatiently.
"The most probable location is in the ruins that used to be Berlin. It is underground," Brainiac 5 reported. "When you're ready, I will attempt to disconnect the alphas from the omega hive mind. Afterward, the alphas will lose their ability to reset the day, but they will be directionless. Their aggression may exponentially rise across the continent," Brainiac 5 warned.
"Mon can take of them," Kara said cryptically and then hung up.
Kara then turned to Nura. "Only I can destroy the hive mind and only you can reset your dream if this doesn't work. So, we're both going."
"Why not blast a huge hole in the ground with your heat vision from orbit?" Nura asked.
"We have to verify that Barney's intel is correct," Kara replied.
"I think if the Mimics start running around confused, that will be the verification," Nura said obviously.
Kara gave her a blank look and sighed. "This is my last mission. I'm going to find the hive mind, and I'm going to blow myself up along with it. Then, you're going to wake up and you're going to tell me for real how and where to do it."
"No," Nura shook her head.
"If you don't, all of humanity dies and the Mimics will be allowed to spread to other worlds," Kara told her.
"How can you be so selfish? You can unite this planet and raise this species out of the gutter. You're the most powerful being in the universe. You can't do this," Nura told her.
"I've killed friends and allies than turned bad. I've killed my own family members and even my in-laws. I've lost the only person that truly mattered to me. I don't even belong in this time. I'm done," Kara told her.
"Look, I've listened to your bullshit for almost a month. You've talked about killing yourself numerous times, and I always talked you out of it. You will find purpose and happiness in your life again. After this mission, I promise to dream your future and tell you what will really happen," Nura said.
"You'll just tell me what I want to hear," Kara said dismissively.
"Find another Naltorian to verify it," Nura suggested.
"I've already made my decision. It's now up to you to decide whether you're going to save humanity or not," Kara told her.
"I'm going to the omega hive...just not with you," Nura said as she shot herself in the head.
Day 25
"On your feet, maggot," a sergeant kicked Nura awake on a pile of duffle bags.
"God damn," Nura sighed.
Mon, impersonating a Master Sgt., approached Nura. "Can I help you, ma'am?"
"I know where the omega hive is. I'm a Naltorian. Take me there, and you can end this war," Nura told him.
"And what makes you think I want to end the war?" Mon asked.
"Wait...what?" Nura wondered.
"You've probably been dreaming about Kara this whole time. Well, it's time you start dreaming about me. I fancy the idea of endless battle. You will come with me to the front to witness my awesome exploits day after day," Mon smiled.
"You don't seem to get it. The only one that remembers my dreams is me. You don't get to remember my dreams," Nura told him.
"Au contraire, Barney has a device that can read memories. We're going to download all of your dreams when this is over," Mon explained.
"You're fucking insane," Nura realized.
"That's the idea," Mon smirked.
"So...that's why Kara's been stalling this out as long as she has. She intends to read my memories of all the days I was with her," Nia realized.
"I don't pretend to know what's going on in that twisted head of hers but that sounds about right," Mon agreed.
"Look, I'm not really interested in doing endless battles with you just so you can collect them in some memory bank. I have a life to get back to. So, how about we make a deal?" Nia said.
"What are you offering?" Mon asked curiously.
"A threesome between myself, you, and Kara...but only in my dreams," Nura proposed.
"Done," Mon said instantly. "So, where's the target?"
Mon and Nura were instantly transported to the Berlin ruins at night. It was a swamp with water everywhere, buildings in disrepair, and dead vehicles everywhere. "So, is it here?" Nura asked Mon.
"I don't have X-ray vision," he told her.
"Shit," Nura realized.
Mon and Nura slowly made their way through the water towards the target. "I have disconnected the Alphas from the hive mind," Brainiac 5 reported to Mon. "The drones will still consider you a threat and attack."
"Excellent," Mon smiled.
Thousands of drones swam through the waters to get to them. "I'll hold them off. You find the omega," Mon said to Nura. She fired an energy cable towards a building close to the omega and then sprung herself forward along the surface of the water.
Mon watched as the drones were almost on him. Tensing up, his hair shifted between black and blond, his eyes from brown to blue. Suddenly, in a flash of light, he was now Super Insane. The water around him was pushed back by his golden aura giving him dry land around his feet. Undeterred, the drones raced towards him. Mon extended out his hands and fired on the drones blasting them to pieces. He began to laugh maniacally as he continued to fire on them all and then started punching them as they overwhelmed him.
Nura dropped down underground with drones chasing after her. She fired on them and then dropped another level. The drones pursued her until she dived into a pool of water. There, she swam deeper into the underground lake with the drones behind her. Deep down, she saw the omega, itself, a glowing blue flower-looking object. A drone sliced through her back mortally wounding her but now she knew where it was.
Day 26
"On your feet, maggot," the sergeant said as he kicked Nura awake.
Mon approached her still impersonating the Master Sgt. "Take me to the Fortress of Solitude. I know where the omega hive is," Nura demanded.
"Fine, but not because you told me to," Mon relented and instantly took them both to the fortress.
Fortress of Solitude
Nura looked around amazed at the beauty of the fortress and then spotted Brainiac 5 at his computer. "I know where the omega is," she said and then gave the precise coordinates on the computer. "Mon-El, you will need to strike quickly before the Alphas are aware of your presence," Brainiac 5 told him.
"Too easy," Mon said as he disappeared.
"It's going to be pointless if I'm still dreaming," Nura told him.
"You're not," Brainiac 5 sensed.
"How can I know whether I'm dreaming or not?" Nura asked him.
"There's only one way for you to know for sure," Brainiac 5 said and then sent a cable through her heart. Nura dropped to the floor clinically dead. Brainiac 5 calmly but quickly worked to bring her back using a healing ray and paddles. Nura suddenly awoke with a start in the fortress instead of on duffle bags. "Holy shit, that was real," she said amazed.
"I will teach you to use a token to assure yourself on whether you are in a dream or in reality," Brainiac 5 said to her.
They then noticed a powerful heat signature coming from the Berlin area. Mon had destroyed the omega hive before the alphas could commit suicide to counter him. Now, the Mimics were everywhere spreading across the continent without direction. "There are several hundred million drones still out there," Nura said concernedly.
"Nothing Mon can't handle," Brainiac 5 said as he turned away from the screen.
Nura then saw Kara sitting in a chair staring off into space with red-shot eyes. She went over to her and gave her a sympathetic look. "You don't know me, but I know a lot about you now. Maybe too much," Nura said to her. "There are memories I wish to forget and there are memories you should have."
"I'm not sure memories of your battle exploits will help me," Kara doubted.
"Trust me on this," Nura said as she got closer.
Kara eyed Nura skeptically but then suddenly kissed her passionately. As she erased Nura's memories of her dreams, she retained them in her own memory. After the kiss, Nura gave Kara a blank look of confusion. Kara simply stared at Nura and all that they had gone through. "Thank you, Nura. I feel a lot better now," Kara smiled.
Author's Notes: The twist here is that while the Mimics can reset the day, Nura can dream herself getting killed infinite times in the future until she dreams the correct course of action. This is the OP of intelligence gathering but it does come with the downside of psychosis where you don't know what's real and what's a dream. I never felt CW was able to imagine the power of a Naltorian in this kind of awe-inspiring way and this is just the beginning.
*AOS heavily implies but does not confirm that Nia and Maeve might have had a child together which would be the ancestor of Nura.
*Kara, Mon, Brainiac 5, and Nura make appearances in this episode.
