Kara came forward to address the citizens of her new dominion in a large stadium. There, the stadium was packed with people from all over the world. Kara was dressed in her usual black Supergirl uniform. Looking over the crowd, Kara noticed the humans all looked the same regardless of where they were from. Their diversity was no longer in their ethnicity, skin color, or gender but in their philosophy, ideology, and spiritual beliefs. These people had suffered decades of war over interpretations of science and now wanted peace at any cost. Kara hesitated to speak, slightly intimidated by the tens of thousands of people watching her.
"You're on," Brainiac 5 informed her from right behind her.
Kara said nothing to that. "Just let the mic do all the work and speak," Brainiac 5 encouraged.
"I'm sure you'll do super," Mon mocked from her other side.
Kara saw a vision, a hallucination of Alex, watching her from the stands. At first, Kara had the impression she was really there, alive and well. Then, she looked back at Brainiac 5 wondering if he had programmed a drone to look like her as a cruel joke on her. Looking back towards the crowd, her eyes naturally focused back on Alex.
"My...gracious message to you...," Kara began and then stopped as she began to cry and have a mental breakdown. She couldn't stop seeing Alex in the crowd.
Kara stepped away from sight and began to weep bitterly unable to continue. Mon followed after her and then Brainiac 5 finished the speech in her place.
Not long afterward, Mon went to see Brainiac 5 in his office at Buckingham Palace. The office was a flurry of activity as several Brainiac 5 drones were ordering around squads of humans on office-related tasks on the running of the dominion. "You're late," one of the Brainiac 5 drones noted.
"I'm afraid I am," Mon smirked.
"Where is Kara?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"She doesn't know I'm here," Mon said flatly.
"I see," Brainiac 5 understood. "Leave us," he ordered everyone out of the room. Once the office was empty, the two continued. "Kara is severely depressed, seeing hallucinations, and has suicidal thoughts. It's getting worse."
"Is there any hope?" Mon asked.
"She must see me regularly," Brainiac 5 said simply. "Only I can cure her."
"You seem really confident for a machine that lacks all emotion, empathy, and a soul," Mon mocked.
"That is why I will succeed," Brainiac 5 said confidently.
"Or maybe we should rethink this idea of having Kara queen of this world," Mon said dangerously.
"I'm a bit of an indentured servant to her...not to you," Brainiac 5 reminded him.
"Fair enough," Mon smirked. Even if he could sack Kara, he would need Brainiac 5's cooperation in controlling the bureaucracy. His path to power was simply to get Kara back on her feet again and then persuade her to his line of Insane thinking.
"So, when can we expect your presence?" Mon asked.
"If Kara wants to be cured, she must come to me according to my schedule," Brainiac 5 replied.
"If you fail and she doesn't recover, I'll consider you an enemy," Mon said seriously.
"Of course," Brainiac 5 understood. "For my methods to work, I need trust and equality."
"When can you start?" Mon asked.
In VR, Kara watched silently as Jeremiah, Eliza, and a younger version of Alex and Kara were in the dining room. "Dad, tell us about your work," Alex requested.
"Can I be a penguin instead?" Jeremiah evaded.
"Tell us the penguin story," Kara said adorably.
"What are you, five?" Alex asked incredulously.
"There were once two princesses whose father had been turned into a penguin by the local witch. This was rather fucked up because he loved to hold his princesses in his arms and you can't do that if you're a penguin," Jeremiah began.
"No shit," Alex said unimpressed by the story.
"Alex, shhh..," Eliza scolded.
"To make matters worse she sent him to the South Pole which is an awfully long walk if you can't fly," Jeremiah continued.
"You can't walk to Midvale from the South Pole," Alex said obviously.
"Exactly. When he reached the water and dived in he found he could fly. Fly through the depths. So fast, in fact, that he was in Midvale harbor by lunch," Jeremiah said.
"That sounds like bullshit," Alex doubted.
"The princesses heard the commotion and hurried to the kitchen where they gave the penguin a bath, a fish, and a kiss. And as they kissed him guess what he turned into?" Jeremiah asked.
"A handsome prince?" Kara guessed completely enthralled.
"A short-tailed Albatross," Jeremiah corrected.
There was a long awkward silence between them all. "With wings big enough to wrap around both his precious girls together," Jeremiah quickly recovered and gave both Alex and Kara a hug as Eliza looked on. "Now, time for bed," Eliza told them.
The real Kara froze the scene of Jeremiah hugging them and then intently eyed Alex's embarrassed face. She could sense a little envy from her as she was no longer the only child. It didn't matter to Kara though. All that mattered what that she could see Alex again, moving, talking, interacting through her memories of her in VR. She had spent countless hours in VR neglecting everything else to relive these events. It was the only time she felt any joy in her life.
Mon finally dragged Kara to Brainiac 5's office in Buckingham Palace. "Prince Mon, you can stay outside or take a stroll around the block," Brainiac 5 said condescendingly to him.
"Sure," Mon said walking off.
Kara entered Brainiac 5's office which was still being renovated. "Make yourself comfortable," Brainiac 5 offered her the couch.
"Let's make something very clear," Kara glared at him. "I don't come to you, you come to me at my choosing."
"Your inability to rule only gives me more power over this planet. Is that what you want?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"You're bluffing. Without me, the humans would stop cooperating with you. You don't have nearly enough drones produced to take over this planet and even if you did, the humans would rather nuke this world to a wasteland than let you have it. You need me," Kara said arrogantly.
"Do you know any jokes...other than the one you just told me?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"I see what this is. You think you can beat my depression by pissing me off. Well, think again," Kara said crossly.
"Tea?" Brainiac 5 offered.
"No thank you," Kara refused.
"I'll have some then," Brainiac 5 said and then took a few minutes to prepare it in an obvious power-move to keep Kara waiting. "Here, in this room, you are Kara and I am Barney. In this room, we're equals."
"If we were equals, I wouldn't be here," Kara said dismissively and then went to take a joint out of her pocket to smoke.
"No smoking marijuana in here," Brainiac 5 ordered.
"It relaxes me, makes me happy," Kara told him.
"It's not meant for someone like you. My castle, my rules," he ordered her.
Kara slowly put the joint back in her coat. "What was your earliest recollection?" Brainiac 5 asked her.
"I don't want to talk about it," Kara said looking away.
"Then, why are you here?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"To get you all to fuck off and leave me alone!" Kara shouted.
"You have a bit of a temper, don't you?" Brainiac 5 asked condescendingly.
"No shit," Kara agreed, calming down.
"When did you start being depressed?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"I've always been depressed," Kara replied.
"I doubt that," Brainiac 5 denied.
"Don't contradict me," Kara glared.
"I can assure you no infant is born depressed," Brainiac 5 said reasonably. "When did it start?"
"Four or five," Kara recalled. "I can't remember a time when I wasn't."
"What happened?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"It was after I graduated from elementary school and my parents...didn't seem to give a damn," Kara said reflectively.
"This condition isn't a permanent part of you, but it did exist long before you came to this time, before Alex's death," Brainiac 5 said delicately.
"No one can fix what I have. No one," Kara shook her head tearfully.
"Do you acknowledge that spending hours every day in VR imagining Alex in your presence is unhealthy?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"I do," Kara admitted. "I don't eat, I don't drink, I don't sleep. I can't help myself."
"When you had a sad thought about Alex, play this music in your ears," Brainiac 5 suggested and gave her two earpieces. Kara reluctantly put them in. "Now, do you feel sad about her now?"
"I do," Kara nodded.
Brainiac 5 started playing uplifting epic classical music into her ears he knew would psychologically calm her. Kara stood up and looked out the window as the music calmed her down. She even cracked a smile as her mind was able to deconstruct the musical instruments faster and more precisely than any human ear. She could focus on one or several instruments playing by isolating their sounds. However, as she looked out the window, she saw a hallucination of Alex walking by. Spooked, Kara turned away from the window.
"Turn it off. Turn it the fuck off!" she freaked out.
Brainiac 5 complied turning off the music. "I'm sorry but this isn't for me," Kara said to him.
"For a moment there, I saw you at peace," Brainiac 5 noted.
"Goodbye," Kara said leaving.
"Take these brain readings for your records," Brainiac 5 said handing her a thumb drive. Kara reluctantly took it from him.
In a dominion meeting, Brainiac 5 hosted the human leaders of each territory via holograms. "As of the present, our work, which we are all equally bound, is to arrive at reasoned tranquility within our borders, to regain prosperity in this time of depression," Brainiac 5 said to them all.
"Where is the royal family?" the Canadian PM asked.
"Prince Mon prefers to deliver his edicts, not in person. He doesn't feel the need to ingratiate himself with the people or reduce himself to that of an actor," Brainiac 5 said.
"And the queen?" the Indian PM asked.
"What about her?" Brainiac 5 evaded.
"There are rumors she will wed Prince Mon-El. It is one thing to be ruled by a Kryptonian for an undetermined term and quite another to have a Kryptonian/Jin-Saiyan monarchy. Their children will be Jin-Saiyan. If the queen does not recover, Prince Mon will make himself a king. This is most intolerable," the Indian PM said.
"You overstate the matter," Brainiac 5 said defensively.
"He makes her happy. That's a good thing, right?" the Australian PM said.
"By sleeping with her," the South African President smirked.
"I can assure you that Queen Kara and Prince Mon have never given in to immoral relations," Brainiac 5 lied.
That night, Kara awoke and put on her bathrobe with Mon still asleep naked in bed with her. Kara went to her study and curiously inserted the thumb drive. As she played the recording, she saw her brain scan change once she started listening to the music. Her brain then went back to before once she turned the music off.
"I'll be damned," Kara realized.
Mon then stood behind her also understanding the situation.
The next morning, Kara went back to Brainiac 5's office. "You may have found a way to improve my mood temporarily but it's just a trick," she told him off.
"It works on the surface level, but this will not succeed unless you want to succeed," Brainiac 5 said.
"I'm willing to work hard," Kara said with false sincerity. "Are you willing to do your part?"
"We shall see each other every day on this matter," Brainiac 5 ordered.
"Well...shit," Kara sighed.
Every day, Kara went to work with Brainiac 5. Their typical session was making funny faces and funny noises at each other, bouncing movements, breathing exercises with Kara on the floor, swinging of the arms, shoulder movements, rolling on the floor, and screaming out the window causing the nearby windows to shatter. After several sessions, Kara was invited to speak at a clothing factory. Upon eying the expectant factory workers, Kara gave a boring-ass speech and then broke down.
"I'm sorry. It's not you, it's me. I'm really trying to give a shit about what you guys do but I...fuck," Kara said then had to leave the scene.
Kara went back to Brainiac 5's sessions a bit distraught. "I've been practicing...an hour a day," she lied.
"Do you feel like working today?" Brainiac 5 asked delicately. "You want some milk?"
"Something stronger," Kara replied.
"My parents are dead. I can relate to your situation on an intellectual level," Brainiac 5 said conversationally.
"What did your parents do?" Kara asked curiously.
"My father was an organic, an inventor, a man of peace. My mother liked to collect worlds in jars," Brainiac 5 said vaguely.
Kara gave him an odd look. "To the memory of those long gone," Brainiac 5 said clinking glasses with her.
"This conversation is making me sad. I'm sad now," Kara admitted.
"Do you know any songs?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"Sure, how about 'Wrecking Ball?'" Kara asked.
"No," Brainiac 5 shut her down. "What was your adopted father like?"
"He...collected stamps and made model airplanes," Kara recalled.
"I want you to sing 'Blow me...,'" Brainiac 5 requested.
There was an awkward pause between them. "'Blow me one last kiss,'" Brainiac 5 clarified.
"You're quite queer, aren't you?" Kara realized.
"I'll take that as a compliment," Brainiac 5 said pleased.
"I wouldn't," Kara said annoyed.
"'You drive me crazy,'" Brainiac 5 requested.
"No," Kara refused.
"Is it queer to you that Mon considers himself to be on the throne?" Brainiac 5 antagonized.
"I don't care what that asshole thinks," Kara said dismissively.
"Tell me about Alex," Brainiac 5 requested.
"Alex and I were very close. Young bucks, she and I," Kara recalled.
"You chased the same girls?" Brainiac 5 figured.
"Alex was always very helpful in arranging introductions with girls and then I would take them from her," Kara said regretfully.
"Did you ever tease Alex?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"Oh yeah, father encouraged it. Thought it would toughen us up," Kara said.
"Were you afraid of your adopted father?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"He was the only one I truly feared," Kara admitted.
"Were you close to your mother?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"Not my first mother, she hated me. When I would do something wrong, she would pinch me. The second mother was a vast improvement," Kara said.
"And your foster brother?" Brainiac 5 asked. "Were you close to him?"
"Ryan, epilepsy, different. He died young. I only knew him for six months, but it felt like I knew him my whole childhood," Kara said sadly. "You're the first robot I've told these things to."
"Cybernetic Organism," Brainiac 5 corrected as he gave her another drink.
"When I look upon the common man, I realize how little I know of his life and how little he knows of mine," Kara admitted.
As if to hammer that point home, Kara and Mon hosted a grand party at their country cottage while the war was still ongoing. Lords and ladies of Parliament were present including Brainiac 5 acting as prime minister. "Miss Danvers and Miss Sawyer," the announcer informed the room.
"How lovely to see you both," Mon smirked amused.
"I came at the invitation of the queen," Alex told him off and then walked past him. Mon and Maggie eyed each other awkwardly.
"Very nice to see you," Maggie said politely to Mon.
Alex and Kara gave each other a kiss on the cheek. "We're late," Alex apologized.
"What's a thousand years?" Kara smiled.
Maggie went up to Brainiac 5 away from the crowd. "I'm thinking to behave badly," she considered.
"Prince Mon-El has already beat you to it," Brainiac 5 said as Mon became the life of the party totally sloshed.
"What is his hold on her?" Maggie asked referring to Kara.
"He's acquired a number of skills over the years that would rival a lesbian's touch," Brainiac 5 flattered.
"We need more booze," Mon said to Kara as they ran out.
"I'll be right there," Kara said submissively as she went to the cellar. Alex followed after her.
"Kara, I've been trying to see you," Alex said annoyed.
"Oh, really?" Kara scoffed.
"How can you be celebrating, drinking, and eating the best foods while soldiers are starving and dying on the front? Have you no shame? What the fuck is wrong with you?" Alex lectured.
"God will sort it out," Kara said dismissively as she looked for the right wine bottle.
"Who's going to sort out the Mimics?" Alex asked her.
"Where the fuck is it?" Kara wondered as she scanned the cellar for it. "Here it is," Kara said as she found a wine bottle from a thousand years ago. "Mon always wants the very best."
"I don't care what Insane man you fuck with so long as you show up to do your duty in the morning," Alex lectured.
"Mon-El isn't some Insane man I'm carrying on with. We intend to marry," Kara told her off.
"Excuse me?" Alex thought she misheard.
"He's no longer my fuck-boy. I think...I might be in love with him," Kara admitted.
"Good God," Alex said dismayed. "This is inter-species marriage. It's bestiality. You're supposed to be the head of the church."
"That's rich coming from you," Kara said dismissively as she went upstairs to the ground floor.
"I'm not royalty. You are," Alex pointed out.
"There's nothing unconstitutional about it," Kara said defensively.
"He's a mass-murdering genocidal xenophobic misogynist racist bigot," Alex pointed out. "And he'll sell this planet, my planet, to the highest bidder after he gets you killed."
"That's the thrill. It's like watching one of those forensic file movies but you're in it," Kara said wide-eyed.
"He's a sick fuck. You're a sick fuck," Alex accused.
"I'm going back to my party," Kara said walking off.
"This isn't real, Kara," Alex reminded her.
Kara came back for another session with Brainiac 5. "After all that work, I had a genuine psychosis where I believed Alex was really there. Even that bitch, Maggie Sawyer, was there, too."
"Why do you have these issues with Alex more than you do with me?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"Maybe because I loved her dearly and...I think hate you," Kara reasoned.
"What is it about Alex that distresses you so much?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"Why do you fucking bring her up?" Kara glared.
"Is that the best swearing you can do?" Brainiac 5 challenged.
"Fuck off, you robot bastard," Kara told him off.
"A school child from Colorado could do better than that," Brainiac 5 said unimpressed.
"Well...shit," Kara said disappointed in herself. "How about I take you out to the [CENSORED] and give you a [CENSORED] [CENSORED] and suck your [CENSORED]?" Kara asked him.
"This is a side I haven't seen from you before," Brainiac 5 said intrigued.
"Well...no shit," Kara said exhaustedly.
"Let's take a walk," Brainiac 5 invited.
Kara and Brainiac 5 casually walked the streets of London with no one really noticing them. "What's on your mind?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"My sister, in my psychosis, is scolding me for being involved with an Insane man," Kara said.
"King Mon-El of Earth," Brainiac 5 sounded it out.
"Unthinkable," Kara admitted.
"Can you do it?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"I can do anything," Kara reminded him.
"Can't you carry on privately?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"I'd like to, but word will go out. I'll be called a slut, a whore. I'll no longer be called the Virgin Queen," Kara said concernedly.
"So, what will you do?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"I know my place. I will do anything to keep myself on the throne," Kara said resolved.
"Is it that serious?" Brainiac 5 asked. "What if you were king?"
"Yeah...," Kara said thoughtfully. "Wait...what the fuck?"
"You must not be governed by fear," Brainiac 5 lectured.
"Your words are poisonous!" Kara shouted at him.
"Why did you come to me?" Brainiac 5 asked her.
"To ease my pain but it's become clear to me now that you're the worst therapist I could possibly come to. You're nothing but a machine, a Brainiac reject. These sessions are over," Kara said and then proceeded to smoke a joint to calm herself down as she walked away.
Kara soon realized she needed Brainiac 5 to run the country and dominion. She assembled lords and ladies of Parliament to give a speech and then froze as she saw Alex in the crowd haunting her conscience. "I meet you all today...in circumstances which are...," Kara began and saw Alex's disapproving gaze. "...fucked up," Kara concluded and then tore out of the room just as she was about to become hysterical.
Kara entered her room and sat down at her desk. She eyed a datapad that detailed a number of policy issues facing the nation. "This whole thing is a mistake. I'm just a Catco reporter. That's all I know," Kara sobbed at her desk completely overwhelmed. "I'm not a queen. What the fuck am I even doing?"
Alex was at her side. "I told my father I would refuse to be your sister two times...not just because I hated you at the time. It was because I knew my life would no longer be my own so long as I was at your side. But when you left me and went into that black hole, I felt very lonely. We're separated by an ocean of time, but my spirit still resides in you. Don't ask yourself what you would do. Ask yourself what I would do if I were in your place."
Kara eventually came back to Brainiac 5's sessions. "I'm not the apologizing type and you don't need one. Nonetheless, I'm sorry."
"You're late," Brainiac 5 replied.
Kara bit her tongue and sat down across from him. "I understand what you were trying to say back then," she allowed.
"I went about it the wrong way. I apologize," Brainiac 5 said.
"Is this world ready for a crazy as fuck queen?" Kara asked.
"Everyone fears going back to square one," Brainiac 5 allowed.
"Recently, I've felt Alex's presence within me. It's like we're merely separated by time, but we will see each other again," Kara said.
"Hope," Brainiac 5 identified.
"I feel I don't have much of a conscience," Kara admitted.
"Join the club," Brainiac 5 invited.
"But when I'm about to do something fucked-up or morally questionable, she's there to scold me. When I do something great, she's there to applaud me. But for me to feel her presence within me, I need to be out there as a superhero. I need to be a queen, an empress, an explorer, a savior. I need to start making decisions and being more heroic so I can feel and hear her voice," Kara realized.
Kara and Mon squared off in the Canterbury Cathedral. "You call yourself a prince with no training, no diploma, no qualifications. All you have is a great deal of nerve," Kara accused him.
"You restarting the inquisition?" Mon mocked. "I'm on the front to give those poor human bastards a chance at success. I listen to them. Does that ring any bells with you?"
"You give a very noble account of yourself," Kara scoffed.
"Make inquiries," Mon said dismissively.
"Inquiries have been made. You have no credentials and yet you feel fit to lead my armies," Kara accused.
"I don't have some fancy certificate. What I know is from experience and all the wars I've been in was a shit-ton of experience," Mon said seriously. "Lock me in the tower," he mocked her.
"I would if I could," Kara said honestly.
"On what charge?" Mon asked not taking her seriously.
"Fraud, for one. You act weaker than you really are and, as a result, countless families have been destroyed. All in the hopes of snaring a queen you couldn't hope to control," Kara said walking away from him.
"Don't flatter yourself," Mon rolled his eyes.
"Because of you, I'll be known as the mad Queen Kara who let her people down so badly in their hour of need...," Kara began full of self-pity and then noticed Mon sitting casually in her royal chair. "And what the fuck are you doing? Get up! You can't sit there!" she exploded on him.
"Why not? It's just a chair," Mon said dismissively.
"That is not just a chair. It's my chair!" Kara shouted at him.
"I don't give a shit how many royal assholes have sat on this chair," Mon rolled his eyes.
"You're trivializing my chair. Listen to me!" Kara yelled at him.
"By what right?" Mon asked.
"By divine right. I am your queen," Kara told him off.
"No, you're not. You don't even want the responsibility. Why should I listen to you?" Mon asked.
"Because Alex is still with me, and she has a VOICE!" Kara shouted blasting out the windows of the cathedral.
Mon winced at the high volume and got off the chair. Kara was taken aback surprised by her own initiative. Brainiac 5 casually walked up to them and noticed the damage to the cathedral. "Prince Mon-El, I have finally discovered a human general with impeccable credentials to lead our armies against the Mimics. Your services are no longer required," Brainiac 5 told him.
"Hold off on that," Kara stopped him.
"Your Majesty's function is to be consulted and advised," Brainiac 5 said dismissively.
"Now, I advise you, in this personal matter, I will make my own decisions," Kara said.
"My concern is for the planet, your planet," Brainiac 5 said gently.
"I appreciate your concern but it's my planet," Kara told him off. Kara then turned to Mon. "I know what Alex would do if she were in my place. As repulsive as it would be for someone like her, she would put duty first above everything else. You will win this war for me. You will this war now and, in return, you'll have me."
"Sounds like a win-win for you," Mon smirked.
"And I will give you an heir," Kara added.
"Can it be done?" Mon asked Brainiac 5.
"It can," Brainiac 5 assured him.
Shortly thereafter, Mon flew above the European continent, powered up to Super Insane, and fired a shower of energy beams down on Mimic nests according to Brainiac 5's satellite readings. Each beam had the power of a nuclear weapon completely incinerating the area killing millions of Mimics at once. The beams hit what was once Cologne, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Bucharest, Sofia, Warsaw, Minsk, Kyiv, Odesa, Istanbul, Ankara, and Beirut. Mon then led the human armies across Europe to take out the remaining Mimic infestations on all fronts.
On the diplomatic front, Kara went to work on a humanitarian mission in Africa showing a more compassionate side of herself. In everywhere she went, Alex was with her guiding her actions.
With the war turning against the Mimics, Mon held a victory parade inside a stadium. Brainiac 5 approached Kara as she rapidly typed out directives to subordinate agencies on her wishes. "Prince Mon-El is holding a victory celebration. He requests your attendance."
"The war isn't over yet," Kara declined.
"He was quite insistent," Brainiac 5 noted.
"He won't have what he wants from me until the job is done," Kara replied.
Mon suddenly appeared in the office in his Insane ceremonial uniform. "What do you want now?" Kara asked annoyed. Mon merely touched her shoulder and the two were suddenly in the middle of the stadium. The crowd roared in applause upon seeing their queen. "What the fuck is this?
"This is where I defeat you in battle and show the whole world who should be king," Mon told her.
"You have no chance against me," Kara glared.
"I beg to differ. You're emotionally compromised, unsure of yourself. You haven't fought in months while I've been in the trenches," Mon said confidently.
"This is positively Medieval. You think a leader should be the physically strongest being on the planet?" Kara asked incredulously.
"It is the Insane way," Mon reminded her and then powered up to Super Insane. His transformation pushed the ground away from him and picked up the wind. For a moment, the crowd was blinded by the intense light.
"Are all Insane like you? Is this the way you hide your incompetence with fancy light shows? We, Kryptonians, will always be superior to your kind," Kara insulted.
"You take that back," Mon glared. "Without the yellow sun, you're all pathetically weak in body and mind. It didn't take much to destroy you. Just a dead sister."
"You talk too much," Kara said furiously. "You ready to fight, little man?"
"Don't expect me to go easy on you just because you're a female. I fight to win," Mon taunted.
Kara flew at Mon and attacked him. Mon blocked her with the sound of a gunshot. The two punched and kicked at one another at a fast pace amazing the crowd. Kara eventually punched Mon to the face but went too far in her movement. Mon grabbed a hold of her right arm and threw her into the air. "I hope for your sake, you can do better than that," Kara mocked.
Mon flew up towards her position and swiped at her. Kara went further up into the air to evade him. Mon suddenly appeared next to her and punched her solidly in the face. Brainiac 5 eyed the fight from his box. "Prince Mon-El's power is significantly higher than before but could he win? I doubt it."
"If you give up now, I'll make you my maid, my cook, or clothing washer, something practical," Mon insulted. Mon then fired an energy beam at her narrowly missing her. The two landed back on the ground.
"That aim was so poor. You were off by ten degrees," Kara mocked. "What's the matter? Something in your eye."
"You can be quick when you want to, Kryptonian," Mon allowed. "But your speed won't save you from me for very long."
"Don't worry, Mon. I don't plan to run from you anymore," Kara said angrily. He had insulted her dead sister, betrayed her trust, and now he was going to die painfully. "Face it, I'm a lot stronger than you'll ever be."
"I doubt it. I haven't even broken a sweat yet," Mon insulted.
"For your information, I've been taking it easy on you. I know how fragile you Insane types can be," Kara mocked.
"Oh really? Well, don't do me any favors because I won't be showing you any mercy," Mon said.
"Well, okay then," Kara smirked dangerously.
Kara suddenly flew at Mon and gave him a headbutt designed to knock him out immediately. To her surprise, Mon remained standing albeit barely. He was bleeding from his forehead badly. Mon went for his own attack, punching Kara to the gut. However, at the same time, Kara had kneed Mon to the gut with much greater force. Mon coughed up blood devastated by the hit. As Mon was about to collapse, Kara held him up with her index finger back to a standing position
"Tell me, Mon. I'm curious. How does it feel to feel this kind of pain?" Kara taunted and then punched him to the side of the head. Mon slammed into the stadium wall hard creating a giant hole in it.
Mon walked out of the hole dusty and bruised but still standing. Kara gave him a look of genuine surprise he wasn't dead. "Lucky punch," he spat.
"Leave now before I kill you for real next time," Kara said barely able to control her emotions.
"Leave? When we've only gotten to know each other?" Mon mocked. "I am the most powerful Insane alive. I fear no one, especially you."
"Everything you say...just pisses me off," Kara admitted and then went to attack him with a punch to the face that sent him in the air. Mon quickly stabilized himself in the air and then rammed Kara to the gut with his head. While she was momentarily stunned, He slammed her back to the ground. Mon then fired down to the ground creating an explosion that rattled the stadium. The humans hooted and applauded the powerful strike oblivious to how close they were to death.
Mon then landed finding Kara slightly ruffled from the dirt and dust. Immediately, Mon engaged Kara with punches and kicks. Kara stayed on the defensive blocking all of Mon's attacks while being forced back a few steps. Brainiac 5 watched the scene as the crowd applauded Mon's efforts. "He's done for. He can't keep fighting at this intensity. She's making him burn all of his energy and then she'll kill him. Every move takes its toll. Mon is getting weaker while Kara remains the same."
After a few hundred punches and kicks, Kara was now pushing Mon back even as she continued to just block. Mon then changed up his tactics looking to strike single more powerful blows. Kara blocked his punch, kicked his legs underneath him, and then backhanded him to the face. Mon steadied himself and went for a punch. Kara cupped his punch keeping him still. Mon went for another punch only for Kara to cup that one as well. The two struggled briefly until Kara kneed him to the gut breaking his grip. Kara then punched Mon to the face stunning him. Kara then kicked him across the field where he dragged across the dirt.
"It's time to put an end to this toxic romance," Kara said as she casually walked towards a hurt Mon. Refusing to give up, Mon went straight at Kara only to miss her completely. Kara kicked him to the face dumbfounding him. Mon struggled to walk away as Kara leaped up above him. With a sidekick, Kara broke Mon's arm like it was a toothpick shattering it. Mon's right arm hung useless, and he fell to his knees devastated.
"What did you hope to prove here? Did you really think anything had changed between us? Even with your transformation, I'm still twenty times more powerful than you in my base form. Your mother fought me at Super Insane 3 and now she's ash. Did you really think you could take advantage of my grief?" Kara asked him.
"It is the Insane way that only the strongest should rule. I had to show these humans that," Mon said painfully.
"And that's obviously not you," Kara mocked.
"No, it's you," Mon replied.
Kara gave him a look of surprise and then noticed the humans staring in amazement at their queen. She had easily manhandled Prince Mon, the war hero. Up to this point, the humans had never understood the depth of Kara's power. Kara looked back to Mon realizing he had sacrificed his pride and body to give her legitimacy. "Why?"
Mon got back to his feet broken and beaten. "At first, it was merely transactional. You had power but I had the will. That is why I wanted to rule with you at my side. But it's not enough for me. When I kill fools, I want it to have meaning. I brought you here because I love you and will have no one else."
Kara simply stared at him and realized this act of self-destruction was sincere. He had risked his life to get her out of her funk. However,...he was still an asshole that insulted Alex's memory to get a rise out of her. No doubt, he would continue to do so if allowed to live. Kara raised her fist with her thumb out sidewise inviting the crowd to make their opinion known.
"Live, live, live!" the crowd chanted.
Kara stared at Mon with an empty expression on her face as she considered whether to obey the crowd or not. Reluctantly, she raised her thumb up much to the crowd's delight. Kara walked over to Mon and kissed him in front of everyone.
Author's Notes: I felt the King's Speech was more about psychological therapy than about speech. The way Brainiac 5 and Mon push Kara out of her funk is probably not the best way but it appears to have done the trick here. It was important for several chapters to deal with Kara's grief for Alex, her adopted parents, and her friends she left behind. The tone of The King's Speech would be radically different if it took place while the war was already ongoing.
*Ryan James was a foster brother to Kara and Alex during their teenage years for six months. His story is detailed in the fic: Midvale.
