Welcome to Chapter 5 of this story. In this chapter, an old promise is brought back to life and might just be what Izuku needs to further his path to becoming a hero. He'll have to use all his knowledge to build and prepare himself for the UA entrance exam if he wants a chance at getting into the hero course.
As always I don't own any rights to Marvel or MY HERO ACADEMIA or any of their characters.
With that let's begin.
It was only six months until the UA Entrance exam and Izuku was sitting at his computer in his room looking over a repair order from Whiplash. He had damaged the wire that connected to his whip, causing them to short out again. Reports like this are what made Izuku believe most of Hatsume Industries' income came from Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo and all of their repair orders. He had signed off the order, when a knock came on the door, "It's open."
Inko walked in and was holding some blueprints and a mechanical engineering book in her hands, "Izuku I know how much you've been working for the last year and a half. I've seen you become a stronger man and you hold your head high on your shoulders. So for all of your hard work, I have a gift for you."
Izuku became confused but intrigued. His mom was making it sound like she had some kind of special dessert for him. He won't say no to a cake at the moment.
" It's something that your father was working on before he left us," Inko said.
Izuku was very confused, so he turned around to face his mother. She lifted up the blueprints and engineering textbook as if gesturing to them. She then walked over to Izuku and handed them to him. Putting the textbook on his desk, he undid the rubber band and quickly unrolled the blueprints, then looked them over.
They appeared to be a design of some kind of exoskeleton, to make a person stronger and faster. He noticed something on the feet and palms and took a closer look, they seemed to have some kind of device that gave the user flight capabilities. He then moved to the second and third blueprints, which were more detailed prints of the flight technology.
"Your father believes that he could create something that could be useful for your quirk. He left some notes in his old textbook." Inko explained, Izuku rolled the blueprints back and wrapped the rubber band around them. He leaned against his desk and then grabbed the textbook.
Izuku opened the textbook to a random page. There was some writing on the edge of the paper, and Izuku had to turn the book to read it. "Though I may not be able to directly support my son. I believe I can find the knowledge to build a device that can help my son be the hero he always wanted to be."
"Before your father died, he told me he had finished the exoskeleton and was working on a device that uses your quirk to power it. However, he never had the chance to build the device. He was killed before he could start the construction of it." Inko said.
"But…" Izuku looked at the arc reactor on his desk. It had a soft glow to it, illuminating the room as the sun began to descend through the sky. The key to solving his father's blueprints
"Yes. I didn't think your father's blueprints would be of much use to you, but then the Hatsumes showed me their arc reactor and how well it worked. I've known you've always wanted to be a hero and I know I can't give you the tools to be one, but I give you these. With what you've learned from the Hatsumes, I believe your father's invention will work and you can become a hero."
Inko started to cry and Izuku comforted her, but soon his own waterworks broke and he began to cry. They hugged each other until the sun went down and Inko retired to bed. After brushing his teeth and getting ready, Izuku sat down on his bed and looked at the blueprints again. They were extremely precise, leaving more room to make minor adjustments. Obviously, his father had spent a long revising these blueprints to get the best design.
Izuku began to smile as he continued to look over the blueprint. Getting a sense of how hard his father had worked to design these, Izuku quickly stood up and walked up to the wall. This design had been hidden for too long, Izuku won't simply be going to roll them back up. Looking up Izuku looked at his All Might posters, he had so many that there wasn't any room left to hang up the blueprints.
"Sorry, All Might," Izuku said, as he quickly but carefully began to pull out the thumbtack. After rolling up the poster and slipping into his closet, Izuku hung up the three blueprints. After making sure they were secure on the wall, Izuku took a step back.
Now being about to take in the complexity of the design from a distance, Izuku knew he was going to need some help. And he knew a girl that would be willing to give some.
Four months before the UA Entrance Exam.
Video #1 Start.
"Today is Monday, October 9th 2034. Time is 3:45 in the evening." Izuku faced the camera. He was wearing his arc reactor which had several wires travelling down his arms to a pair of wireframe gauntlets. In the palm of each gauntlet was a glowing disc. Mei's parents had been kind enough to clean and give him the third floor of Hatsume's Industries for testing, "Today is test number one of the Repulsor gauntlet/blasters Mark 1. The objective of the day is to see whether these things actually work or not. On Camera we have Dummy and on fire safety, Mei Hatsume."
The camera swung slightly to show Mei holding a fire extinguisher, then moved back to Izuku, "I'll be starting half mark back from the centre." Izuku moved into position. He double-checked everything was connected, then flexed his finger. The arc reactor glowed for a bit, and then the repulsors hum a bit causing Izuku to smile, "Alright we'll start with low power. 10% and see how that feels. I have stationary targets at 5 yards, 10 yards and 20 yards.'
The camera switches views to show the targets, red plates that were hanging from the ceiling from metal wires. After the last target was shown, the camera switched back to Izuku.
"I would like to have it be on record that Izuku Midoriya is ripping off another inventor," Mei said. Something similar to what she had said when Izuku first showed her the blueprints. After much heckling and arguing, she did eventually arrive to help build the designs.
"Come on Hatsume, we talked about this. My father created the blue printer for me to use." Izuku sighed, he had had the same argument with Mei for the past two months. Ever since he asked her to help build the blueprints, "Alright remember, half mark from the back with 10% power. In 3…2…1."
Izuku lifted both his hands and extended his fingers. He took a deep breath, then flexed his fingers. The arc reactor pulsed green and green electricity travelled down the loose wires to the repulsors. Both hummed for a bit before both fired out an energy blast. Izuku tried to hold the ground, but the force behind the blast sent him flying back across the room. The camera followed him as he flew into the wall and dropped to the floor.
Mei Hatsume ran over and started to spray Izuku with the fire extinguisher. Izuku waved his hands, yelling, "I'm not on fire. I'm not on fire."
Mei released the trigger and Izuku stayed hidden behind a white cloud. He walked out of it, brushing the foam off of him while shivering, "Alright I think for the next test we should stay at 1%."

1 Month before UA Entrance Exam
Video #2 Start
"Today is Friday, January 5th 2035, so Happy New Year. Currently, the time is 5:31. The UA Entrance exam is one month away. Today we will be testing Repulsor mark 5 test #3. After discovering some minor flaws in the initial design with power conversion and distribution. We discovered that during sustained usage, the couplings began to weaken and overheat, resulting in reduced overall power. We have redesigned the whole repulsor base. On Camera we have Dummy and for a lack of a better replacement Mei Hatsume is still on fire safety."
Izuku walked into the frame, he was wearing a simple white t-shirt and a pair of jeans. Both were covered in grease stains and his hair was unkempt and messy. It hung down in front of his face and he had to brush it out of his eyes. He had a few circles under his eyes, showing a bit of exhaustion.
Mei huffed off-screen, "At the end of every test, you have blasted me with CO2. It's cold. And let it be on the record, that if you douse me again and I'm not on fire, I'm going to Mei Hastume's house and destroying all of her inventions."
"No, don't hurt my babies." Mei winced off-screen. Izuku saw that she was crossing her arms and pouting.
"Don't douse me when I'm not on fire and we won't have an issue." Izuku said, "As always I'll be starting a half mark back from the centre. We'll start with 1% power then move up to 2% power." Izuku walked into position, and then connected the arc reactor to the repulsor. They slowly hummed to life, "In 3…2…1" Izuku raised his right hand and fired off a shot and the energy blast shattered the glass plan in front of Izuku. Izuku flipped around and blasted another with a different glass plane with his left hand, "Moving up to 2%." Izuku flipped to his left and blasted a glass plane with both his hands. Even between 1% and 2%, the power increase was obvious. Izuku flipped another and blasted the last glass plane with both hands again.
As the glass hit the floor, Izuku stood in the middle, his hand by his side, then slowly raised his right hand, "YES!" He lifted both hands in a cheer, resulting in both repulsors going off.
Izuku had to take several steps back to stay on his feet. As soon as he regained his balance, he suddenly turned around and pointed a repulsor off-screen. "Ah, ah ah. No" The camera moved slightly to show Mei creeping forwards, an extinguisher in her hands, with the pin pulled and her hand ready to pull the trigger, "You want me to destroy your babies."
"No." Mei lowered the nozzle.
"Good choice." Izuku lowered his hand. Suddenly Mei raised the nuzzle and Izuku raised his hand. Mei blasted Izuku, while Izuku blasted the frozen CO2, causing the room to fill in a cloud.
"Your babies are dead, Mei Hatsume. You hear me, dead." Izuku yelled, disappearing behind the white cloud.
Video #2 end.
And there's chapter 5.
We get to see the designs Hisashi created to work with his son's quirks. Along with the struggle Izuku had to overcome to get a working prototype (I don't just mean the overheating issue).
I wanted this to have the same feeling as the building of Mark 2 in "Iron Man." So I wrote it as if someone was watching the videos.
Next chapter we get to see the fruits of Izuku's hard work. He takes the entrance exam to get into the Hero course at UA High School. Will his father's design be enough?
Next Time: Hit or Miss
