Welcome to the next chapter of Electric heart. It times for the UA Entrance exam, a moment Izuku had been building to his entire life. To see if he can become the hero he's always wanted to be.
Will his father's designs be enough to get Izuku into UA's hero course? Or will they deny him the opportunity because of how much support his quirk requires? Will he be able to get enough points, or will he fail to show the world his power?
As always, I don't own any rights to Marvel or MY HERO ACADEMIA or any of their characters.
With that let's begin.
Izuku shouldered his backpack as he looked at the front gate of UA. He couldn't believe he was standing there. This was the day he had been working towards his entire life and for some reason, he wasn't as nervous as he thought he would be.
To make things Hatsume was standing next to him. Despite the support course exam not happening until the end of the hero exam, Mei came early to give Izuku some moral support.
Izuku took a deep breath of the cold morning air, no thought coming into his mind as he did so. This day would be perfect if he passed and got into UA.
"Get out of the way, Deku." A voice yelled behind Izuku, immediately pulling Izuku out of his calm mindset. Izuku turned around and came face to face with Bakugou. For the past few months, Izuku had been doing his best to avoid Bakugo at school. He had been successful for the most part, Bakugo wasn't following him to work. However, that didn't mean he was safe everywhere, because a few days ago, Bakugo cornered him before he could escape the school. Bakugo demanded to know why Izuku was trying to get into UA without a useless quirk.
He ended the conversation by saying that Izuku should jump off the roof and hope for a better quirk in his next life. Izuku had worked hard to get to where he was, he wasn't going to let Bakugo push him around anymore.
Izuku looked Bakugo back in the eyes and locked his jaws, "Hello Kacchan. Isn't it obvious, I'm testing to get into UA's hero course? And there's nothing here you can do to stop me."
Mei could tell who was more surprised by Izuku's confidence, her loveable ball of green fluff or the caramel-smelling blondie. Izuku and Bakugo just looked at each other until Bakugo scuffed and moved around Izuku.
Izuku took a deep breath and still deflated. As he did so Mei watched Bakugo walk away, then turned to Izuku "You want any help with that?" Through their friendship, Izuku had gotten better at socializing, while Mei got better at being normal around people.
"No, that's a battle that I need to fight on my own," Izuku said, shouldering his backpack and turning around. Izuku walked through the UA front gate with Mei following him. He could tell with Bakugo, Izuku had been dealing with him since they were kids. Izuku wasn't going to let his old childhood friend force him out of taking the test.
"Alright. The support course exam will have started by the time you're done. Come find me once you're done." Mei said, giving a small wave. Izuku waved back, before focusing his mind on the fight before him.
Nothing exciting during the ceremony, except for a blue-haired kid interrupting towards the end. At the end, Izuku got a card that had his exam area. After grabbing his backpack, Izuku headed out to find his bus. Which took him to a closed-off area, where Izuku figured the exam would be happening. As he waited for the exam to begin, Izuku walked over to a nearby tree and sat down.
After opening his backpack, Izuku pulled out his gauntlets. Slipping them on, Izuku quickly tightened the bracer and then worked on connecting all the wires. As he worked on hiding the wire under his shirt, the blue-haired kid from before walked up to him.
He gave Izuku a once over. After which a confused look appeared on his face and he asked, "What's with all your equipment?"
"My quirk is strong in basics but hard to use. I made these repulsors help me use my quirk." Izuku said, tightening the last few screws of the braces. Izuku flexed his finger and the repulsors hummed a little.
"If your quirk requires so much equipment to be used, then maybe it's not fit to be used for heroic purposes. Maybe you would be better suited for the support course?" Izuku looked at the blue-haired kid and felt his anger build. He had worked so hard for this day and he wasn't going to let a stuck-up elite talk him down.
Izuku forcefully closed his backpack and then leaned it against the tree. Izuku stood up and looked the blue-haired kid in the eyes, ready to rip him a new one. However, before Izuku could say anything, Present Mic's voice yelled, "Begin."
Izuku's mind quickly refocused and saw the giant doors leading to the exam area were opening up. Without another thought, Izuku took off and quickly reached the door. Even with the short amount of time he trained with Miruko, the one thing she pounded into his head was not to hesitate. To act the moment you could and act with Voracity.
Izuku rushed into the fake city and found his first robot. "5%" Izuku yelled as his repulsors began to glow. A moment later, an energy blast shot out of Izuku's hand and blasted the robot apart. It was only a one pointer but at least it was a start
"There's no countdown in real life. An examinee in group B already has a point." Present Mic explained.
Izuku grinned knowing that was referring to him. He heard some noise behind him and quickly turned around. He saw a two-pointer charging towards him. Izuku raised his hands up and once the robot was in range, Izuku blasted it apart.
"That's three." Izuku thought, keeping track of points. Izuku noticed that other people were starting to file into the city. They were beginning to attack the robots in the surrounding area. Izuku knew he need to go to a new location to find more robot
He took off in a back alley in hopes of finding another wave of robots. He was about to round a corner when a three-pointer suddenly tried to punched him. On pure instinct, Izuku managed to dodge the attack, but as he raised his hand the robot attacked again.
The three-pointer's speed was faster than the others, causing Izuku to panic. Izuku shifted his arm to block the attack, but the three-pointer's speed wasn't the only improvement. As the robot's fist connected with Izuku's gauntlets, Izuku felt the wireframe quickly bend and deform.
Izuku began to yell as he was pushed away., wishing he had added some kind of armour to provide some kind of protection. Yet he had been so focused on building the repulsors he hadn't worked on anything else from his father's blueprints. Izuku cursed himself, as he flew back and crashed into a car.
Izuku's vision was fuzzy as he pushed himself off the ground. He fell to the ground and spat out some blood. Izuku stayed on his hands and knees as he struggled to catch his breath. Once his vision was clear, he looked at his gauntlets and saw they weren't fully broken.
The left one had taken the most damage and probably only had a few shots left, while the right one was only slightly damaged. Izuku picked himself up and looked at the three points. It was staring back at him as if taunting him to try and attack again. His vision went a little red as he looked at it. Without a second thought, Izuku yelled and rushed forward.
Now knowing about its enhanced speed, Izuku easily dodged the robot's punches. Once he was close, Izuku dropped down and slid under the three-pointer. Putting his hand against the robot's underbelly, Izuku yelled, "50%"
Immediately both repulsors gave a near-blinding light before blasting the three-pointer in its weak spot. The metal of the robot groaned for a few seconds, and then the robot disintegrated. Izuku's shoulders hit the ground and it felt like they almost became dislocated. Izuku screamed out at the pain, as he followed to the ground. He struggled to catch his breath, as the pain shooting through his shoulders, along with the crash were causing a massive headache to cloud Izuku's mind.
He could only lay on the ground, breathing through the pain. He lay on the ground until the PA system turned on and said, "1 minute remaining."
How long had Izuku been resting on the ground? He only had a minute left and he only had 6 points. Fighting through the pain, he got up and looked around. He need to find some robots to destroy, but all the ones in his vicinity had been destroyed. Suddenly he felt the ground begin to rumble. He looked down the street he was standing on, just in time to have a wave of examinees run past him. Though they weren't enough to cause the ground to rumble.
However, the giant robot behind them was enough to shake the ground. Izuku froze as he looked at the robot, its shadow covering most of the surrounding area. As several students ran past him, Izuku felt panic enter his mind. Telling his body to move, to run away, to get to safety. Yet he was paralyzed with fear, he couldn't move and was going to be crushed by the giant robot. Izuku tried to move, but his body wasn't responding, and then a small voice reached his ears.
"Someone, please help. I'm stuck." the voice called out. It was full of fear and terror and pain, the same of him.
Izuku looked down the street and noticed a girl with brown hair and pink cheeks pinned to the ground by some debris. She appeared to be trying to grab it with her hand, but she couldn't fully reach it. Izuku looked back up at the 0-point robot. It was only a few yards away, while he himself was only a few feet.
He always wanted to be a hero, to protect and rescue others. To be a beacon of peace and hope. The people always talked about how the top heroes showed early signs of being amazing. Izuku might be late to something like that, but he wasn't going to give up because of that.
Izuku couldn't think straight as he felt his body begin to move toward the girl. He weaved through some debris, then slid to a stop next to the girl. He gripped the debris the best he could with his broken gauntlets. However, without the whole exoskeleton, it was too heavy for him to lift it and free the girl. Suddenly he felt himself standing in a large shadow. He looked up and saw the 0-pointed foot right about them.
He knew this was probably the end of it. He was going to get crushed, along with the girl. He had worked hard to get where he was. He worked so hard on his mission to become a hero, but now he was going to die. He would never become a hero. Everyone in his past was right, he and his useless quirk could never become a hero. He had wasted his life chasing an impossible dream.
"What am I thinking? If I give up now, then I would have failed my mom, Hatsume and her parents. They've supported me since the beginning and I won't let them down. This isn't my end, it's my first step." Izuku let go of the debris and pointed both of his palms up. "100%." Both repulsors glow green before a large energy blast was emitted from them. The blast hit the robot and disintegrated the foot. However the zero pointer wasn't done, and neither was Izuku. He had one more trick up his sleeve. It was a relatively new addition he had made to the Arc Reactor.
Izuku dropped his hand and puffed out his chest, "Unibeam, 100%" His entire chest glowed green before a large green beam shot out. The beam travelled the short distance to the robot, piercing its upper leg, before quickly exiting through its head. The robot fell backwards dead.
Izuku collapsed to the ground, nearly now empty. The Unibeam attack had taken more out of him than he was expecting. Eventually, helper robots arrived and lifted the rubble off the girl and took her to heal.
A pro hero Izuku recognized as Recovery Girl walked over to him. "Are you alright dear, an attack like this must have been quite exhausting."
"I'm fine, just need to rest," Izuku said, picking him off the ground and walking back towards the entrance. As he walked he felt a cold feeling coming over his upper lip, touching it he drew his finger down and saw that they were covered in blood. He quickly wiped his fingers and nose, just as he noticed several students looking at him. He paid no attention to them as he walked back to his backpack. He walked over to the tree from before and slipped off his broken gauntlets and arc reactor. He slipped them into his backpack, then fished out a taser and held it against his chest.
He didn't like it, but it had become a good way for him to replenish his body's electricity when he used too much. Pressing the button, Izuku felt the electricity jump from the metal prongs of the taser into his body. After a bit, Izuku fit normal and he tossed the taser back into the backpack.
He slung his backpack over his shoulder and began to work his way to the support department exam. As he walked he realized how screwed he was. He had only scored 6 points. He had wasted so much time recovering and 6 points weren't going to be enough for the practical exam. Destroying the zero-point robot would look cool, but it was just as its name stated, worth zero points.
So even if he had aced the written exam, which he wasn't 100% sure he had, he wasn't going to get into UA.
Izuku cursed himself for failing so badly. He knew his only chance now was to go to a normal high school then hoped for Tokyo U. Izuku reached the waiting area for the support course and waited for Mei to return. As he waited he sat down and leaned after the wall. After a bit, he pulled out a notebook and looked at the design he had for a full suit of armour.
But now that seemed like a far-off dream, as at Tokyo U he won't be given any kind of grant to build the armor. At least not until he was in his third year. He sighed as he pulled out a pencil and worked on the helmet. As he worked on the shape, a UA teacher walked up to him.
"Are you lost, little buddy?" Izuku looked up and saw that it was Powerloader. If Izuku wasn't so depressed he would have asked for a signature.
"Actually I just came from the hero exam and now I'm waiting for my friend that's doing the support course entrance exam." Izuku explained, as he put the pencil on his ear and closed the notebook.
"Hero exam, how did it go?' Powerloader asked. It was hard to see his face, but Izuku got the impression that Powerloader was smiling.
"Not good, Sir. A robot broke my repulsors within the first few minutes, then I exhausted myself until the 0-pointer. I had to use my unibeam to destroy it." Izuku shivered at the recent memories. He started rubbing his wrist, and they started to feel sore.
"Wait, you destroyed a 0-point robot. What for?" It was rare for an examinee to destroy a 0-pointer. For two reasons, the first being as they generally run away from it. Second Powerloader made the 0-pointers tough, meaning even if an examinee attacked it, they would have to be pretty strong to even dent it.
"A girl was stuck and was going to be crushed," Izuku explained, a small happy thought that he had managed to save someone. Maybe the Hero course teachers would take pity on him and give him a second chance.
"Repulsor, unibeam. Those don't exactly sound like ultimate moves." Powerloader had a curious look on his face, "What exactly are they?"
"Equipment, I built to use my quirk." Izuku grabbed his backpack and pulled out his busted equipment. He handed them to Powerloader who looked them over.
"These look familiar." Powerloader looked at the palms on the gauntlets, memories filling his head as he did so, "Hey kid if you can fix these within the next ten minutes and show them to me? I'm willing to put your name down for the support course." Powerloader handed back the equipment.
Izuku's face lit up, "You really mean it." He had just failed the hero course, but if he could get into the support course, he would still be going to UA. Plus he would be in the same class as Mei.
"Even with these busted, I can tell they're advanced engineering. Get them working and show me their power, and I'll consider it. You can use my room. It should have all the equipment you need."
Izuku slipped his stuff into his backpack, then pushed himself up and off the wall. He followed Powerdloader to his main office. It was a standard workshop, though it was organized between mechanical, electrical and bio-engineering. Everything was put in its place, making it hard to lose anything. Everything was clean and perfectly reflected the overhead lights.
Izuku figured it would take Mei less than ten minutes to turn the place into a mess.
"Remember ten minutes. Try not to set anything on fire. I've already had to deal with five of those today." Powerloader said, closing the door behind him. Izuku sighed as he looked around, still a little confused about what was going on. So he might as well repair his equipment.
And that's chapter 6.
I've read a few fanfics that had Izuku as Iron man and either he has the whole suit before the entrance exam. Allowing him to completely ace it, or he doesn't even try for the hero course. Going straight to the support course.
My problem with the first option, usually the building of the suit feels rushed. and the exam, it's not meant to be easy. Sure in canon if Izuku had control of One for All, even just 5%, he would easily get a top score. But from storying telling point the Entrance exam is to show Izuku where he struggles.
For the second option, just go straight to the support course. The whole point of Izuku's character is trying to become a hero no matter his struggles. Even when he was quirkless, he still wanted to become a hero, so not even trying for the hero entrance exam feels wrong.
So in the end Izuku failed the hero entrance exam, but his actions are going to be remembered by some. Now he gets to try his hand at the support entrance exam, will he be able to fix his equipment in time and demonstrate them to Powerloader?
