In the Fortress of Solitude, Kara conversed with the Alex AI program. "I miss your touch on nights when I'm hollow. I know you crossed a bridge that I can't follow. Since the love that you left is all that I get, I want you to know that if I can't be close to you, I'll settle for the ghost of you," Kara told the Alex AI.
Kara began to cry and fell to her knees. "I miss you more than life. And if you can't be next to me, I'll settle for the ghost of you." The Alex AI smiled and then abruptly shut off.
"What the fuck happened?" Kara shouted anxiously to a Brainiac 5 drone attending to her.
"A series of crystals have been burnt out," he explained.
"How long until you fix it?" Kara asked alarmed.
"Inconclusive. Creating Kryptonian crystals is a delicate precise science," Brainiac 5 said.
Kara gave him a look of horror, confusion, and then resignation. She simply walked away. Shortly thereafter, she walked out into the cold and darkness of the Arctic. On her wrist was a glowing green Kryptonite watch she kept around for training purposes. As she continued to walk out into the void, her hair became stiff and frozen, her face became pale, and her body temperature rapidly fell.
To add insult to injury, a polar bear suddenly swatted Kara to the face breaking her jaw and gashing her face. Kara fell into the snow knocked out cold. The polar bear sniffed at Kara and found her too odd to eat. It then walked off leaving her to die in the snow. For some time, Kara lay in the snow unconscious and on the verge of death.
"Kara, Kara!" a voice called out to her.
Kara opened her eyes and noticed a vision of Alex before her. "Alex?" Kara asked, thinking she was hallucinating.
"You will go to Mars," Alex ordered.
"The fuck?" Kara wondered.
"You will learn from J'onn, the Green Martian that instructed me," Alex told her.
"Alex...," Kara reached out to her with her hand.
The vision of Alex disappeared as Mon suddenly appeared next to her. Kara fainted and started to die from hypothermia. Mon turned Kara over and saw her nearly frozen state as well as half her face a bloody mess. He then saw the Kryptonite watch on her wrist. Eyeing a caribou in the area, Mon fired into its head dropping it. Mon then dragged the caribou body over to Kara, sliced its guts open, and then shoved Kara's body inside it.
"This is going to smell bad," Mon warned her. "But it will keep you warm."
"Alex...Mars...J'onn," Kara muttered incoherently.
Mon rolled his eyes and then spent the night with Kara ensuring she stayed warm enough to remain alive.
The next morning, Mon instantly teleported himself and Kara back to the Fortress. With Kara royally fucked up and covered in gore, Mon placed her in a healing tank with a ventilator on her mouth. There, Kara floated in and out of consciousness as the liquid slowly healed and cleaned her.
"If we were to take off the Kryptonite watch, her healing would be instant," Brainiac 5 reminded Mon.
"I'm aware," Mon replied unconcernedly.
Kara was eventually taken out of the tank and placed on a bed in a nightgown with the Kryptonite watch still on her wrist. "You don't look so bad," Mon said as he looked her over. "You look strong enough to pull the ears off a Dominator."
Kara gave him an odd look and then looked away ashamed. "Thanks, Mon," she said softly.
"Well, now you owe me one. And by that, I mean sex," Mon said obviously.
"Mon...I would never intentionally kill myself...but I also don't want to live," Kara admitted.
Mon gave her an unsettled look. "How about this for motivation: If you die, I'll slaughter every living thing in this system. I'll destroy this world erasing any sign of Alex's existence from the universe."
Kara simply stared at him wondering if he was bluffing. "Take it off," she requested. Mon easily snapped the watch off and handed it off to Brainiac 5 to dispose of. Kara's strength quickly returned. "I'm going to Mars."
"What's there?" Mon scoffed.
"An old friend," Kara said vaguely.
"You must be joking. He must be dead by now," Mon said insensitively.
"Don't underestimate a Green Martian. He is there," Kara said confidently.
"You expect me to go with you?" Mon wondered.
"Do what you want," Kara said softly and left the room.
Princess of Mars
Mon teleported to Mars and found himself in a vast desert with mountains in the distance. On the ground was yellowish fauna vegetation. The ground itself was white and salty while the sky was an orange haze. Mon took a few steps to test the gravity of the planet and found it to be one-third that of Earth. Unimpressed, Mon sniffed the air and found it rather thin but not too problematic. Over the thousand years, there had been some changes to this planet to make it more hospitable. Noticing something unnatural in the rock formations, Mon flew over and dropped down. In front of him was a large chest made of glass crystal. Looking through it, Mon could see dozens of Green Martian eggs. Coincidentally, the Green Martian babies hatched from their eggs and began crying.
"Yeah, fuck that noise," Mon said backing away.
A squad of Green Martians riding bull-like creatures approached him having sensed an impure mind near their eggs. The Green Martians fired their laser rifles at Mon but failed to get a hit on him. Mon suddenly dodged a spear thrown at him by a Green Martian male warrior. "Really?" Mon said to him.
The Green Martian leader named Tars looked over Mon and then gestured to his squad to stop shooting as they approached. "Don't run," Tars said to Mon as he dropped his weapon on the ground.
"Do I look like I'm about to run?" Mon asked sarcastically as he remained standing in place.
"Tars," he introduced himself to Mon. He wore a fur jacket with red straps in the form of an X across his chest while also wearing a necklace of teeth around his neck. Around his waist was a belt and below that were shorts. He also wore boots appropriate for the rough terrain.
"Prince of all Jin-Saiyan, Mon-El," Mon replied back.
"Insane?"
"That's right," Mon confirmed.
"Fly...like before," Tars requested.
"No, go fuck yourself," Mon refused.
"I shall take you to my village," Tars said amused.
"Well, okay then," Mon allowed.
The Green Martian squad gathered the crying babies and then rode their way to the village.
Meanwhile, Kara flew to Mars at lightspeed and then slammed into the surface. Looking around, she sensed someone or something was calling to her. "Now all I have to do is find J'onn...assuming he's even alive."
Kara always had a love/hate relationship with J'onn. At their first meeting, his DEO agents ambushed her with Kryptonite darts and dragged her to his base where he then restrained her. What J'onn didn't realize was that Kara intentionally got herself captured to find the DEO and find out what Alex was up to there. Then, she immediately realized J'onn was a Green Martian but played along for several weeks until Alex figure it out on her own. For two years, she worked for J'onn at the DEO and saw him as the asshole father figure she never had. When she went forward in time, she slightly grieved that she would never see him again.
"This place gives me the creeps," Kara said of the empty Mars landscape. With her super-hearing, she didn't sense anyone nearby. "Still, there's something familiar about this place," she said thoughtfully.
Kara had never been to Mars even though the temptation was always there to visit the entire solar system. She just never felt the urge to do so alone. "I don't know, it feels like...," she began and then powered up her eyes for the kill. In front of her was an old frail Green Martian. "...like I'm being watched."
"Don't shoot, mean you no harm," he said pathetically. "I am wondering, why are you here?"
"I'm looking for someone," Kara said vaguely.
"Found someone I would say," the Green Martian chuckled.
"Right," Kara rolled her eyes.
"Help you, I can," the Green Martian said.
"I don't think so," Kara doubted. "I'm looking for a great warrior. Now, move along."
"No, stay and help you, I will. You seek J'onn J'onzz," the Green Martian sensed.
Kara froze at that. "You know him?"
"Take you to him, I will," the Green Martian offered.
"Lead the way," Kara allowed.
Mon finally reached the Green Martian settlement, a large ruin made of hundreds of rock houses among tents. The Green Martians looked upon Mon curiously. They had merely expected a large batch of Green Martian babies. Now, in addition to that, they had an Insane in their midst. The Green Martian babies were then dumped out of their baskets. Female Green Martians raced to gather them up and even fought each other over them. Mon watched intrigued approving of this practice. One particular female Green Martian was getting her ass kicked by the others and couldn't acquire a baby for herself.
"Let Sola have a hatchling," Tars ordered alpha female, Sarkoja.
"Let Sola have the Insane," Sarkoja replied and walked off with the baby intended for Sola in direct defiance to Tars
"I say we kill this mother-fucker," Tal said placing his sword at Mon's throat.
"Tal, step away," Tars ordered.
"You prize this Insane over my own judgment?" Tal asked accusingly.
"Yeah," Tars said obviously.
The two immediately began to fight. "I claim the right to challenge," Tal said.
"And who would support your challenge?" Tars scoffed.
With no one supporting him, Tal backed off like a bitch. "You are as blind as a white. You will not rule today," Tars mocked.
"Not today," Tal said ominously and walked off.
"See what I have brought you. He is a rare and valuable animal. It is called Mon-El. Everyone stepped back," he said to the crowd. "Mon-El, show them."
Mon spat on the ground defiantly. Tars went up to Mon and phased his hand through his throat. He crushed his windpipe and then shattered his vertebra. Mon fell to the ground in a heap paralyzed. "By Jesus, you will fly tomorrow," Tars ordered him. "Sola, take him away."
Mon was placed in a prison and chained up where he was further punished by unceasingly crying babies. Sola gave Mon a drink as he still couldn't move. "Drink...good," she said to him.
Mon immediately felt as if he were being drugged. Green Martian babies started crawling all over him. "This is some bullshit," Mon muttered as he slowly recovered. Later in the night, Mon sufficiently recovered to break his chains and then found a tower where Green Martians were celebrating. He flew over to the tower and then interrupted the party. A Green Martian threw a punch at him missing. Mon punched him back knocking him out.
"You defeated him in one blow," Tars said surprised.
"I know, right?" Mon smirked.
The Green Martians proceeded to gang up on Mon tackling him to the floor and beating him senselessly. "Who is responsible for this?" Tars demanded of his people. They all pointed fingers at Sola.
"Well...shit," Tars realized.
Kara followed the elderly Green Martian to his humble rock cave home. "I'm sure it's delicious. I just don't see why I can't see J'onn now," Kara said impatiently.
"Patience," the Green Martian told her. "Eat."
"How far is J'onn?" Kara asked as she sampled his stew. Kara gave a disgusted look upon eating a spoonful.
"Not far, patience," the Green Martian replied. "Why do you want to see J'onn?"
"Mainly because of my sister, I guess," Kara shrugged.
"Ah, sister, powerful woman was she," the Green Martian remarked.
"Oh, come on. How could you know my sister? You don't even know who I am? I don't even know why the fuck I'm here! You're wasting my time!" Kara exploded on him.
"I cannot help you. The girl has no patience," J'onn finally revealed himself.
"The girl will learn patience," Alex's voice replied.
"Much anger in you...like your sister," J'onn recalled. "You're not ready."
"The fuck I'm not, Hank," Kara denied.
"Ready? For eight hundred years, I've given therapy to my people. Patients must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind. This one, for a long time I have watched. All your life, you have looked away to the future, never your mind on what you were doing, where you were," J'onn said accusingly.
"I didn't mean to go forward in time. I saved all of your asses," Kara said angrily.
"Adventures...of Supergirl," J'onn mocked. "You are reckless."
"So was I if you remember," Alex's voice said to them both.
"You're too old to be helped. You're fucked," J'onn said dismissively.
"But I've learned so much. I'm the queen of Earth, I'm forming alliances with other planets. I'm a good girl now," Kara told him.
J'onn sighed unimpressed. "Will you finish what you begin...for once?"
"I will not fail...myself," Kara assured him. "I'm not afraid."
"You will be...you will be," J'onn said ominously.
In front of everyone, Tars had Sola branded for her mistake of allowing Mon to escape. Mon simply watched as it happened like a total asshole. "Enough," Tars said as Sola screamed in pain. "There's no room for another mark, Sola. Your next offense will be your last," Tars told her.
Mon did notice that Sola's body was covered in branding scars. As someone who had numerous battle scars all over his body, Mon was not sympathetic. "You will fly, Insane," Tars ordered Mon.
"Yeah, I don't think so," Mon refused.
"Flyers!" Tars cried out as they came into view. The Green Martians took cover as four aircraft approached. Mon eyed the odd ships with wonder. The ships were shaped like horseshoes with a bridge suspended in the middle. Attached to the hulls were translucent wings. Three ships were from the Zodanga clan while the ship being chased was from Helium. The Green Martians took bets on who would win the fight.
"Zodanga is winning the war, but I say let red men kill red men," Tars said to an observing Mon.
"Somehow, I'm getting American Civil War vibes from all this," Mon considered.
The Zodanga lead ship fired on the Helium ship disabling it. The Zodanga ship then boarded the Helium ship and slaughtered the guards. "I want the princess and I want her alive!" Sab ordered his men.
"Doesn't look fair," Mon judged.
"The Zodanga never fight fair, always have a three-to-one advantage when they fight," Tars explained.
Onboard the Helium ship, Sab was pissed off. "Where the fuck is she?" he demanded of his men. "Check the dead."
Princess Dejah escaped capture and entered the bridge that was being unguarded. She proceeded to ram one of the Zodanag ships with it locking them together in midair. The impact disabled both ships and sent Dejah out the window where she barely held onto the wing of her ship. Mon eyed the princess with some concern. "She's hot!" he realized. Dejah had reddish skin, black hair, and blue eyes with a slender physique.
Mon immediately went into action and caught Dejah before she could fall to her death and then safely landed her on the ground. A Zodanga ship landed and opened its docking bay. "Now, if you'll stand behind me, I'll be your white savior."
Zodanga soldiers rushed Mon with their swords. Mon quickly beat the soldiers down within a second. He took one of the swords and began stabbing more soldiers for the fun of it. "You watching this?" Mon asked Dejah from behind. She had already leaped off a ledge away from the battle. Mon frowned but continued fighting. After dispatching these soldiers, Mon flew over to the second ship and started fighting the soldiers there. Seeing the Zodanga and Helium ship still locked together in the air, Mon fired on it. The ships exploded and fell to the ground.
A pissed-off Sab boarded the ship Mon was on and engaged him in hand-to-hand combat. The two struck at each other repeatedly on the ship as the other Zodanga watched. "What are you? You're not a red man nor a white ape," Sab said of Mon.
"I'm Mon-El, Prince of all Insane," Mon grinned.
"The fuck?" Sab wondered.
Their fight was interrupted as the Green Martians on the surface fired their laser rifles at their ship. Mon teleported away as the ship was getting hit all over. Sab quickly retreated back to his other ship. After hundreds of laser shots, the ship went down and crashed on the surface. The third Zodanga ship retreated away. Mon then appeared among the celebrating Green Martians.
"You fight like a Green," Tars complimented Mon.
"You give me far too little credit," Mon smirked.
"Tars of the Greens, I am Dejah, regent of the Royal Helium Academy of Science," Dejah introduced herself to them.
"Nerd!" Tars said dismissively as the others also mocked her. Even Mon smirked.
"You know that once Sab has conquered us, he will turn his weapons on you," Dejah beseeched him.
"Zodanga has finally managed to defeat you and now you seek a mighty weapon of your own but Prince Mon-El fights for us!" Tars declared. "He will be called Dotar Sojat!"
"Let's be clear about something here. I don't fight for you. You fight for me," Mon corrected earning boos from the crowd.
Tars went over to him to set him straight. "Reject this honor and I cannot guarantee the safety of your red girl," he warned.
Mon looked over at Dejah to confirm she was still hot. "Fair enough," he allowed. "I will be your Dotar Sajat!" The crowd cheered at this and began plundering the destroyed ships on the ground.
Kara and J'onn stood outside in the Martian desert away from anyone else oblivious to whatever Mon was up to on the other side of the planet. "What do you got for me, old man?" Kara asked.
"You haven't come to grips with your grief," J'onn sensed.
"I've accepted the truth that Alex is dead," Kara told him off.
J'onn sensed through her mind. "Barney never told you what happened to your sister."
"He told me enough, alright. He told me she died doing what she loved, being successful, dying in old age," Kara recalled.
"No...I was your sister," J'onn revealed.
"The fuck?" Kara mouthed.
"When Alex died, I impersonated her and continued her work. When the time came, I arranged for her funeral," J'onn said. "The real Alex committed suicide shortly after you left."
Kara simply stared at J'onn stunned and then shook her head repeatedly. "No, that's impossible," she doubted.
"Search your feelings, you know it to be true," J'onn told her.
"No...no...," Kara grieved and then exploded in rage emitting an energy blast that shook the entire planet. J'onn phased as the debris and energy went through him. When the dust settled, J'onn phased back.
Kara fell to the ground weeping bitterly. "Why would you tell me this?" she sobbed.
"Kara, you do not yet realize your potential. You have only begun to discover your power. Discover a way to go back in time. It is your destiny," J'onn told her.
"Time travel?" Kara wondered. "I'll never be able to do it."
"So certain are you? Always with you what cannot be done," J'onn chided.
"Destroying entire planets and moving stars around is one thing. Time travel is completely different," Kara protested.
"No! No different. Only different in your mind," J'onn told her.
"All of my schooling on Krypton said it can't be done," Kara doubted.
"You must unlearn what you have learned," J'onn taught.
"Fine, fuck it. I'll give it a try," Kara said half-heartedly.
"Do...or do not. There is no try," J'onn lectured.
"It's too big a time jump," Kara shook her head.
"Size matters not. My ally is hope and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. It's energy, surrounds us, and binds us. You must feel hope around you," J'onn said.
"You ask the impossible," Kara said sadly and walked off heartbroken.
That night, the Green Martians scavenged the fallen ships and put all the bodies in a pile. Mon smiled as he saw all the bodies heaped together and then burned. "War is such a shameful thing," Dejah said tearfully.
"Yes, of course, it is," Mon said for her benefit.
"You made a difference, Prince Mon," Dejah said to him.
"I know, right?" Mon agreed.
"How did you learn to fly like that?" Dejah wondered.
"I did a lot of push-ups and drank plenty of juice," Mon said sarcastically. "Look, we don't need to get into it," he said upon seeing her expression.
Dejah then checked out Mon's body circling around him. "Skeletal structure appears normal. It must be the density of your bones."
"Sure," Mon rolled his eyes.
"Explain to me how you are able to fly and fire energy from your hands. If it's a skill, teach it to Helium. Name your price," Dejah requested of him.
"I'm not for hire. I don't serve people, people serve me," Mon corrected. "Besides, what you're asking is impossible. Your power levels are nowhere near high enough for it to work and you would need years of training."
"You call yourself an Insane. I call you a liar," Dejah said boldly. "How did you even come to Mars?"
"Instant transmission," Mon replied.
"Fuck it," Dejah said storming off.
Mon teleported right in front of her stunning her. "How about you tell me how humans got on Mars and why you look so red?"
"A thousand years ago, our founder Elon Musk built a Mars colony. The colony grew over time and the first Martian humans were born. Then, we terraformed the planet to make it warm and the air breathable. Our colony was constantly under attack from outside and within by the native Martians, but we overcame them. Several centuries ago, an asteroid impact nearly wiped out all life on Earth. However, the survivors created a new radical society based on science and atheism. They tried many times to come to Mars to colonize this world, but we destroyed them every time," Dejah explained.
"Prudent of you but now Mars and Earth will now be under my domain," Mon declared.
"And what of me, my family?" Dejah asked alarmed.
"You will be my vassal, and, in return, all of your enemies will be my enemies," Mon promised her.
Dejah smiled at that. "Lead the way to Helium," Mon ordered.
"On foot?" Dejah wondered.
"That's right," Mon confirmed. "Servant girl, come!" Mon ordered Sola to his side.
"You have instant teleportation. Why?" Dejah asked confused.
"I want to take a tour of this planet. You will be my guide," Mon ordered.
Kara brooded by herself until she found herself inside a vision of Hank and Alex at the DEO not long after she had left to the future. "Through me, you can see things, other places, the past, old friends long gone," J'onn said in her mind.
"Alex!" Kara called out to her and then ended the vision.
"Control, control, you must learn control," J'onn told her.
"I saw her in the DEO. She was in pain," Kara recalled.
"The past, you see," J'onn explained.
"I have to find a way to get back to her," Kara said resolved.
"Decide you must, to serve them best, help her you could," J'onn allowed.
"I can't keep the vision out of my head," Kara said unsettled.
"You must go," J'onn advised.
"What if I go back and fuck it up even worse?" Kara wondered.
A vision of Alex then appeared before them. "You don't know that."
"I can't control myself," Kara admitted.
"You can help your friends, your loves ones," Alex said to her.
"I will," Kara said resolved.
"The mystery to time travel is in the galaxy. Seek it out where you can," J'onn said.
"I got this," Kara smiled.
Alex got closer to Kara. "Don't give in to hate. That leads to suffering."
"I promise," Kara said embracing Alex.
The next morning, Mon went on a tour of Mars with Dejah and Sola. "What a shit-hole? What happened to this place?" Mon asked as he saw ruined settlements.
"Zodanga happened," Dejah said bitterly.
"Sounds like a bad-ass. I might have to side with him," Mon antagonized.
"Once we reach Helium, you will see the virtue in our cause," Dejah said offended.
"Everyone thinks their cause is virtuous like freeing slaves or preventing genocides," Mon said dismissively.
Dejah gave him a WTF look but kept walking with him. "You're a mad fool."
"You'll come around to my Insane way of thinking," Mon predicted.
"I can't. I can't marry him!" Dejah beseeched him.
"Oh, really?" Mon wondered.
"Sab. He offered a truce to my father in return for my hand," Dejah explained.
"How about that? A princess that didn't want to get married, so she ran off and now dozens of men on both sides are now dead," Mon ridiculed. "Is that all there is to this story? You're boring, you're boring me."
"I didn't run away. I escaped," Dejah said defensively.
"What's the difference?" Mon asked dismissively. "Marry the guy and save your people."
"A life of oppression! That's not living," Dejah protested.
"Self-absorbed much?' Mon chided.
"If you have the power to save others, would you not take action to make it so?" she asked.
"No good will come from me fighting your war," Mon promised.
"I would lay down my life for Helium. Yes, I ran away. I was afraid, weak. Maybe I should have married but I feared it would be the end for Mars," she said honestly.
"So, you're a patriot after all," Mon said impressed.
Sola then spotted a rival Green Martian army approaching on their alien-bull calvary. "Take Dejah and go," Mon ordered her.
"No, no! You're our only hope. You won't survive," Dejah protested.
"Trust me," Mon smirked.
Mon leaped into the middle of the army and began slaughtering everyone around him. Green Martians were blasted apart and punched through as Mon went into complete savage mode. The Green Martians swarmed him from all sides, but Mon was able to punch several of them back per second. After killing so many, Mon was practically buried in corpses. A Red Martian battleship then fired on the Green Martians with cannon fire scattering them. The Green Martians retreated from the battlefield as the battleship overwhelmed them. The battleship then landed on the ground with Dejah's father, Tardos, exiting.
"Father!" Dejah shouted as she ran up to him.
The two embraced near the ship. "Thank Jesus," Tardos said upon seeing her.
Mon groaned as he lifted all of the Green Martian corpses off of him. Covered in blood, Mon walked towards the battleship. "Who is he?" Tardos asked alarmed.
"He's Prince Mon-El, he saved my life. He's an Insane," Dejah explained.
"An Insane?" Tardos wondered.
Sab then made a dramatic entrance onto the scene. Dejah immediately took her father's pistol and aimed it at him. "Dejah, listen to me. Sab has admitted everything to me. He came to me alone, without an escort. I could have had him imprisoned; I could have had him killed," Tardos told her.
There was a long awkward pause. "The fuck is wrong with you?" Dejah asked dismayed.
"Come on, I'm not such a bad guy. I do have a conscience," Sab told her.
"Oh, really?" Dejah doubted.
"You still don't trust me and why should she? There's never been trust between Zodanga and Helium. Therefore, princess, I offer you a token of my sincere goodwill. My life," he said to her as he handed her his sword and took a knee.
Dejah immediately sliced his throat open. Sab gave her a look of shock and then collapsed on the ground dead. Sab's bodyguards immediately went to attack Dejah and Tardos. They were suddenly shot down by beams of light from Mon. Dejah gave him an appreciated look and then knelt before him with her sword raised above her head.
"You've done well, princess," Mon said impressed.
"Will you help me end this war and destroy Zodanga?" Dejah asked of him.
Mon instantly teleported inside the city of Zodanga ready to cause some mayhem. He went about going through Sab's palace when he was suddenly fired upon by a blue beam. Mon tensed up instantly paralyzed by the beam. A woman then morphed into a bald pale man wearing white robes. "We'll have plenty of time to talk," Maitai, the White Martian told him.
Mon then awoke to find himself in a transport hovercraft. "Who the fuck are you?" Mon demanded even as the rest of his body remained paralyzed.
"Definitely Insane. Increased strength and agility. Simple matter of gravitation and anatomy, one we ought to have foreseen," Maitai said.
"Obviously," Mon mocked.
"This will not do, Insane men teleporting over here causing all manner of disruption and chaos. My name is Maitai, and I do not exist. Indeed, I work very hard at it. I can be anyone and everyone. I can kill the Helium royal family, killing the head off the beast, so to speak, and then impersonate her. Quick, clean, and precise," Maitai said.
"If it's super-easy, barely an inconvenience for you, why haven't you done it yet?" Mon asked.
"I'm the player, not the pawn. We've been playing this game since the beginning. The Green Martian genocide was our best work, but, of course, some survived and then bred like crazy. But more importantly, why do you give a shit? This is not your world," Maitai said. "You have no obligations to these people."
"When you're right, you're right," Mon agreed.
"You're a man without a cause," Maitai observed.
Mon suddenly powered up to Super Insane and broke Maitai's control over him. "I don't need a cause to kick your ass," he said as he held him. Maitai gave him a horrified look upon seeing his transformation and then phased through the hovercraft floor into the ground. Mon then blasted the hovercraft to pieces and powered down.
Soon thereafter, Mon handed Zodanga over to Dejah and the people of Helium. In a public ceremony where both sides were present, Tardos gave them a goblet of precious water to share. The two held the goblet over an altar. "By the sacred rite of moons and water, are Earth and Mars are bound together once more, as husband and wife," Tardos said.
Mon and Dejah drank from the goblet cementing the alliance between Earth and Mars. That night, Mon slept with Dejah and then had an enthusiastic walk around the palace tower. As he did, a guard came to thank him. "You must be the great Prince Mon-El."
"Sup?" Mon smiled.
"I've heard quite a bit about you," the guard said.
"Oh, really?" Mon asked condescendingly.
"The Insane warrior that glides through oceans of blood, beyond human, a monster whose power radiates with a darkness that casts a shadow on darkness, itself," the guard complimented.
"Oh, dirty bitch, work the shaft," Mon grinned.
"Excuse you?" the guard wondered.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I like to dirty-talk when someone's sucking my dick," Mon explained.
"Perhaps, I should just get to my point," the guard said and then suddenly phased into his White Martian form. Maitai then suddenly phased his hand into Mon's chest to kill him.
Mon instantly teleported himself to a random location on Earth on instinct. "What the fuck?" Maitai wondered. Mon then instantly teleported back to the tower and fired through Maitai's chest killing him instantly. Mon then threw the body over the ledge where it splattered on the ground.
The next day, the Green Martians came together in an arena. Tars had been overthrown by Tal. After a severe beating, Tars was thrown into prison. Now, Tal hosted an arena game where Tars would be executed by white ape monsters. The crowd of Green Martians that had been fiercely devoted to Tars only a few days before now wanted to see him killed. For good measure, Sola was also thrown in as well.
"Weakness, sentiment, allowing an Insane to contaminate the horde, these are the crimes of Tars. We are united because we cull our freaks. We are strong because we despise our weaknesses. Let them be crushed like unhatched eggs," Tal said to the roaring crowd.
A white ape monster was then released. It immediately charged Tars and bitch-slapped him across the arena. To his credit, Tars avoided the white ape's other strikes. "Release the other one," Tal said bored.
Suddenly, the two white apes began to fight each other incomprehensibly. J'onn and Kara rose from the ground into the arena. As the two white apes continued to fight, Kara yanked a chain connected to a boulder. She pulled the boulder over to her, whipped it over her head, and then slammed one of the white apes to the head killing it. J'onn calmly phased through the other white ape, took out its heart, and then phased out its back.
"J'onn Jon'zz, J'onn J'onzz, J'onn J'onzz," the crowd chanted upon recognizing him.
"I claim the right of challenge," J'onn said to Tal.
"You have no right to challenge, old man," Tal refused.
J'onn gestured to come at him. Upon seeing the crowd, Tal couldn't refuse to fight an old frail-looking man even if he was a legend. Taking two swords, he leaped into the arena. J'onn fired a heat vision beam at Tal mid-air slicing his head off. Tal's body then hit the ground in pieces.
"The tribe is yours," Tars said submissively to J'onn. "Thank you for saving me and my daughter."
"Unite all the Green Martian tribes and establish an alliance with this Kryptonian...or I'll scramble your brain," J'onn told him.
"As you wish, Martian Manhunter," Tars replied.
Fortress of Solitude-Earth
Kara and Mon entered the Fortress of Solitude and met up with Brainiac 5. "Congratulations on your treaty with the Martians," he said knowingly.
"No sweat," Mon smirked and then walked off.
Kara gave Mon a suspicious look but then focused on her goal. "Barney, you will invent for me a time machine," she ordered.
Brainiac 5 gave Kara a condescending look but had expected this request. "Have you ever heard of the tragedy of Brainiac Four, the Wise?" Brainiac 5 asked.
"No," Kara admitted.
"Brainiac Four, so powerful and so wise, he could influence atoms to create life. He had such knowledge that he could even bring back the ones he cared about from dying by going back in time a short distance," Brainiac 5 said.
"I'm listening," Kara said intently.
"The ability to manipulate time is considered by some to be unnatural," Brainiac 5 continued.
"Yeah, well, I don't give a shit," Kara said determinedly. "So, what happened to him?"
"He became so powerful that the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power which, of course, he eventually did," Brainiac 5 said.
"Naturally," Kara said relating well to this story.
"Unfortunately, he taught his son everything he knew. Then, his son killed him in his sleep. Ironic, isn't it? He could save others from death but not himself," Brainiac 5 mused.
"Is it possible to learn this power?" Kara asked finally.
"If we work together, I am certain we will discover the secret," Brainiac 5 replied.
Author's Notes: This chapter was based on John Carter and some Star Wars scenes that fit the narrative. J'onn's memory vision of Alex committing suicide after Kara goes forward in time may or may not have happened. It would be in character for him to motivate Kara with a lie. And B5's story about his own father could also be a deception. Mon/J'onn's approach of being a total asshole to Kara may not necessarily be the right approach for suicidal individuals. Always consult professionals for yourself or someone else.
