Suri has nightmares. She also has some time for self-reflection while waiting for her test results. Hpefully those results turn out to be just what she hoped for

Blood.

She could still smell it. The beast girl paced through the darkened forest, only the moonlight showing through the canopy to lead the way. The thick, warm scent of freshly dampened soil, the faint smell of icy rain, and lively smell of wood and trees filled her. Her chest was warm in the scent of home but it wasn't what had her heart racing and filled with excitement. Her claws stalked through dirt as she made her way even closer to her destination.

Her eyes soon found their target. Wings who's violet scales became black in the night. Long silver hair that glowed in the moonlight. Fair and milky smooth skin that glimmered in the light from sweat. She looked perfect and would be even more perfect trapped under her. The beast leapt forward and the warmth of the girl's bare flesh pressed against her own. She looked into those wide lilac eyes and saw the reflection of a monster staring back.

She screamed.

Suri's eyes flung open and she gasped, clamoring for air as she shot upwards in bed. Her forehead was covered in a sheen of cool wetness as she quickly surveyed her surroundings, eyes darting every which way across the room. Hospital bed. Hospital gown. She was in the hospital?

When the hell did she go to a hospital?

Oh, right. Entrance exam.

She settled, calming her breathing as she looked to her right and saw a sunset staring back at her. She admired the deep oranges, reds, and purples that danced over the picturesque scene. Her legs moved from under the light bed sheets until they hung freely in the room's cool air. She then gently let her feet meet the cold vinyl flooring and began taking weight as she attempted to stand. She stumbled on the first step then caught herself, standing herself in front of the window and admiring the view.

The sound of a door opening clicked in her ears and an unfamiliar scent trickled through her nose. She turned back to see a tiny old woman standing in the doorway.

"Ah, Miss Kuroyashi, you're finally awake."

Her brow furrowed and she watched the old woman begin to walk towards her.

"W-Where am I?"

"UA, dear. We brought you here after your exam. You had some pretty good bumps, a dislocated shoulder, and a small fracture on the back of your skull."

So she passed out for a reason. Good to know.

"That said," the woman paused. "I didn't even have to use my Quirk on you. That's some Quirk you've got, young lady."

Shit.

"Yeah… it's, um, sort of a Quirk mutation. Guess I'm-"

"A lycanthrope."

Suri's eyes were wide. Her body froze into place as her mind did somersaults to come up with something, anything to say.

"I thought I recognized the name. I'm guessing you're Orihime's little whippersnapper, eh?"

Orihime Kuroyashi. Grandma.

Suri's eyes and lack of motion continued to betray her, giving the old woman all the answers she needed. And making Suri mentally curse for giving the answer to her so easily.

"A long time ago a young pro hero, about nineteen at the time, still green behind the ears, came into my emergency room. She was in bad shape but before I could heal her, I watched her body put itself back together about as fast as my Quirk."

Suri managed to finally close her blink a few times. She stayed frozen and silent as the woman spoke. Suri could only wonder how much trouble she was in.

"I've been friends with your grandmother for nearly fifty years now and I've known about you and your family's kind for nearly as long," the old woman chuckled before stepping closer to Suri. "However Miss Kuroyashi, I implore you, next time, you need to be much more careful, especially with those claws of yours."

Suri's stomach fell. She immediately felt sick, lightheaded, and on the verge of throwing up. Lycanthropy was contagious, incredibly contagious in most cases, being a mix like her lessened the risk, sure, but still there was a risk. Had she infected an innocent person? Ruined their dream of being a pro hero?

"D-Did she… did I… shit… is she infected?"

"Bloodwork was negative, dear."

"Oh thank gods…"

She released a breath she didn't know she was holding.

"Do try to be careful. There's only been a handful of lycanthrope heroes since the appearance of Quirks, I'd hate for you to jeopardize that chance so soon. You might look into nail dips like your mother and father did."

"You knew them?"

"Like I said, dear, the Kuroyashi clan and I go way back. Now, since it looks like you're all good to go, I'll clear you to head home. Oh but before you go, here," the old lady reached up to Suri, holding a closed hand until the beast girl laid out an open palm and then dropped something into her hand.

"Have a candy!"

"Oh, um, thanks," Suri replied with a confused tone as her eyes fixed onto the small plastic wrapped hard candy that was now sitting in the palm of her hand.

"Now run along. Tell Orihime that Chiyo sends her regards."

Suri jumped a little as she felt something pat her on the back of the thigh, jolting her out of her daze. She found the culprit was a cane shaped like a hypodermic needle and the old woman wearing a pink headpiece with a purple visor and a orange and yellow trimmed nurses uniform. She knew she had seen the costume somewhere but couldn't recognize the hero, or at least put a name to a face. Then again, most of her dad's framed photos were from two decades ago or more, long before she was born. She thought about the pictures as she unwrapped the candy and popped it into her mouth before retrieving her bag with her clothes inside it. She suckled on the sweet, cherry flavored treat as she dressed as her mind wandered and lingered on the photos from her dad's office. Nothing was sticking. Oh well.

As she left the room, her nose flexed as she caught a familiar scent and helped lead her out of the medical wing of UA and down to the entrance. She spotted the winged girl walking through the arches towards the front gate and she ran to catch up to the girl. She remembered pulling the girl onto her broken ankles and wanted to apologize for one, and two; check to make sure she had gotten her out of harm's way.

"Hey, wait up!"

The girl turned and Suri saw several emotions run through her gaze as she laid eyes on the American girl coming towards her. Excitement. Gratitude. Fear. That last one worried her.

"H-Hey… thank you… for saving me. I went in while you were still asleep to apologize for scratching you up but… Y-You looked fine."

"Y-Yeah um my Quirk… kinda lets me heal fast," Suri looked down, sort of avoiding the girl's lilac eyes and avoiding looking at the bandages that still covered her wings, her arms, and, now that she had thought about it, was walking with a slight limp.

"I'm sorry with how rough I handled you trying to help you," Suri bowed herself at the waist.

"You got me out, that's what matters, and for that, I'm grateful. Your Quirk… scared me though," the girl shivered, shuffling uncomfortably.

"Oh… I'm sorry," Suri apologized nervously. She had a flash of courage to try and steer the conversation, if this could even be called that, away from the elephant in the room. "I'm Suri Kuroyashi by the way. I didn't catch-"

"Kishida Yutogame," the girl replied dryly, cutting off Suri and turning to face away from her.

There was a long pitiful silence between the two of them before Suri sighed and lifted her head, giving the girl a weak smile as she began walking again. The two never spoke a word or spared another glance at each other. Suri's dream came to mind and she shivered, her gut tightening, and she thought about what the girl had said. It hurt and sort of made her sick that the girl was scared of her. That wasn't what she had wanted or intended at all.

"Well… see you around, Yutogame… I guess," she muttered under her breath as she walked towards the train station, the dragon girl walking the opposite direction into the sunset.

Yeah. Right.

Truthfully; that wasn't the first time Suri had heard that about her 'Quirk' and it certainly wouldn't be the last. And frankly, Suri was well aware that she had a vicious streak in her. She had had fights and brawls at a few Lupanars. She had torn into older, stronger, members of the pack. And more than once she heard the pack say how poetic it would be that Alpha's daughter would turn out to be a villain.

Nah, that would be too cruel for the old man. She wanted him to stop babying her and let her grow up, not to mentally torture him that much. Hell, running five thousand miles away was cruel enough. Maybe she would call him after all.

She didn't call him.

Instead, the following week was spent pacing around the compound in nervous fits. She still went running every morning, ran down to the beach, a part of her was hoping to see that green haired boy she knew wouldn't be there. And he never was. She spent the evenings after dinner up at the peak in a clearing in perfect view of the moon where she would let the moonlight bathe her naked skin and meditate.

Grandma did two things when Suri had gotten home from the Entrance Exam. One, she had said that the old lady she met was none other than Recovery Girl and told Suri about the few years she was a pro hero before having her mother, Maon. And two; theorized about why she had lost all of her drive and energy she derived from her beast mid exam. She explained how her beast thought the whole thing was boring and refused to rise and lend her energy like it did practically 24/7 otherwise.

Grandma Kuroyashi had suggested meditation to strengthen Suri's bond with her beast because something prior to the exam had weakened it for some reason. Neither of them knew why. What could it hurt to try, right?

So that was her routine for the week. Run up the mountain then to the beach and back in the morning, meditation up at the peak at night after dinner before bed. And in between? Doing everything she could to take her mind off of the awaiting exam results. Nervous? Her? Nervous enough that she filled her day with distractions to the point that she passed on a shopping trip with Hagakure and Ashido. Instead, she frequented her uncle Issie's gym, stepping into the ring over and over again with members of her grandmother's local wereleopard clan, otherwise affectionately known as; the Pard.

Most didn't like her presence, namely because her mother was a wereleopard - although asymptomatic, meaning she didn't go furry once a month - and of Japanese descent while her father, the American pro hero known as Alpha, was a werewolf of African American descent. A foreigner and a mutt in two different ways? Easy three strikes against her. Friendly sparring matches between two lycanthropes were brutal, and far more bloody than most human fist fights, Quirks or no Quirks. That said, the violence and bloodshed helped feed her beast and her power, she was happiest covered in scratches, blood, and sweat. The marks never lasted for long though thanks to the healing factor the lycanthropy carried with it. Scratches were healed in minutes, cuts, depending on how deep they went, hours, and broken bones? Suri had her nose broken during one of her bouts during the week. It was healed by the weekend. The only exception to the rule was marks made intentionally by lycanthrope claws, those healed human slow and usually left raised scarring. Suri ended up with a few sets throughout the weeks, much to her chagrin.

Sunday morning saw her starting the day with another run, traversing the mountainside in the cold March air before heading for Dagobah Beach once again. This time she appeased the desire to take an icy swim in the ocean, stripping down to what passed as a swimsuit and dove in off of the dock. Her breath hitched in the icy water as the sweltering heat of her body was instantly cooled and the cold soothed the aching in her legs and back. It was a perfect way to not have to think about her birthday and having it be the first one she'd spent practically alone. Instead, she spared glances up and down the beach hoping she'd maybe see that boy once again; she'd consider a view of his chiseled abs in the morning light again as a perfect birthday present. Hell, maybe she'd work up the ballsiness to go talk to him even. That's what she wished for anyway but never got an answer to that wish.

"Fine, you win, Angrboda," Suri sighed woefully, taking the lack of greenette sightings as her goddess' sign, before refocusing on her leisurely time.

After a few more long minutes swimming and lazing in the water she pulled herself back onto the deck, pulled her few layers of clothes back on and then ran back to the Kuroyashi compound for a hot soak in her shower.

The shower was exactly what she needed to finish her morning routine. She padded the bare soles of her feet against the home's wood flooring from her room towards the living room. She had planned on the rest of the day being lazy so she opted for a pair of grey baggy cotton shorts that went past her knees and a loose black crop top that she'd cut the collar off of to nearly the shoulder. She was drying the thick cloud of raven curls as she stepped into the room and smiled as she saw her grandmother with her back to her, fixing a mug of hot tea. Suri didn't have to say a word as the old woman slid one mug, Suri's favorite seafoam green porcelain one, along the countertop off to her side.

"Hey Grandma. Lazy morning for you?" Suri spoke softly, wrapping the towel around her neck as she walked into the kitchen and took hold of the mug.

Grandma Kuroyashi smiled and sipped her tea as she turned to look at her granddaughter having to tip her head to see the taller girl. She set her mug on the opposite counter and proceeded to put the tea mix away before finally returning to it and took a look back at the younger girl in her company.

"It is," she mused with a sly smile. "I'm getting myself prepared for the much quieter days I have ahead of me."

"Quieter days?"

Suri raised an eyebrow to the comment, the confusion heavy in her voice as she shot the question in more than just words to the grey haired woman. Chartreuse eyes watched grey blue ones as they fixed on the younger girl then motioned wordlessly to the end of the counter. It took Suri a couple promptings before following. She knew the old woman was sly, was she trying to play some sort of trick-of-the-eye with her? So Suri turned her head towards the end of the counter and found something that caught her attention. Her eyes locked on a white envelope that had something clearly stuffed inside of it but, what made her focus on it intently was the wax seal on the front.

Suri chugged the rest of her tea, nearly slamming the porcellian down as she padded forward quickly and grabbed the piece of mail. Her hand shook as she held it and took full realization of what she was looking at.

"Ohmygodohmygodohmygod!"

She turned to the older woman with her eyes wide, hand shaking with the letter trapped between her fingers. Grandma Kuroyashi, former pro hero Whiplash, simply stood smiling as she watched the girl's reaction remembering her own excitement when she had gotten her first package as a budding hero, albeit in the form of her very first professionally tailored hero suit. She was none too surprised at all as Suri ran towards her room, her feeting rumbling against the wood as she padded, barely containing herself. Once the door closed she simply took another sip of tea and smiled to herself.

On the other side of the door, Suri rushed to the middle of her room and then remembered the measly 14 points she had earned. And suddenly she stopped, her lips parted somewhere in between wanting to say something and nothing at all.

14 points. That was all she'd managed.

Why was she excited? And then the thought hit her like a bag of bricks and the what ifs started popping into her head. The loudest one being what if the letter says 'sorry kid, you're not good enough, why don't you run along back to America?' Her nervousness started the beginnings of a panic attack, her body began shaking, her stomach was in knots and she could feel a lump forming in her throat. Her heart thudded rapidly and soon the only noise she could hear was the sound of her blood and her heart pounding inside her ear. She tossed the envelope and retreated to her bed, grabbing the one thing that had been able to comfort her no matter what.

For the next hour she was huddled up on her bed staring intently at the red wax sealed envelope laying on her dresser. Her legs were folded, her heels pressed against one another as she rocked slowly back and forth clutching the one friend she could always count on, the one she told absolutely everything to and knew she wouldn't be judged for it, and the one that would always keep her safe. She clutched the plump softness to her body, clinging into the fuzzy warmth who's beaded plastic eyes stared forward at the envelope along with her. She buried her face into the back of the stuffed animal's neck and muffled her voice.

"This is stupid," she growled into the back of the plush penguin's head. "Why am I so goddamn nervous? Of course I did good enough, right Squeak?"

She turned the rounded face of the stuffed animal to her and looked at her friend's eyes, the unwavering happy cheerfulness that never faltered. His beak was a constant warm, happy smile that always told her everything was okay. He always knew how to make her feel better even though he, you know, never spoke a word. She nodded to him, huffing in determination as she climbed off the bed with him in one arm and stormed over to her dresser. She pushed the envelope flat, held it down with the side of her hand and flicked her middle finger between the envelope's opening and swiped underneath the wax, popping the UA seal free before a disc shaped object was exposed.

She pulled it free and began inspecting the object which looked more like a drink coaster and much less like a letter like she had been expecting. She looked it over a few times, her eyebrows crunched in confusion as she held the metal contraption.

"The fuck is thi-ah!" A light flickered to life and she jumped. She clutched the stuffed penguin to her, only letting her eyes peek out as the disc lit up. It landed back on her dresser and she huddled wide-eyed on her bed as a familiar gigantic man with golden blonde hair standing on end in the shape of antenna stood staring at her.

"BOOYA! I AM HERE! AS A PROJECTION!"

Wait! She knew him!

"Uncle Toshi!"

Her eyes lit up like Christmas morning as she watched All Might step back from the camera and stand more towards the center of a set that looked like a gameshow. The ugly mustard colored suit didn't help the aesthetic either. Outside of his hero costume, Uncle Toshi, as she affectionately referred to the friendly giant of a man, had probably the worst fashion sense out of anyone she knew. She cringed as she gave him a once over in what he was wearing. Five years and he hadn't changed since the last time she had seen him, though he did seem a little more tired than he did back then.

"You're looking at the newest member of the UA faculty for this coming school year!"

Wait, he's becoming a teacher now? Well that's certainly… unexpected. Especially for the world's greatest and best well known hero. The thought sounded like a retirement plan and the thought of her dad retiring to become a hero teacher flashed in Suri's head. That… could be interesting… maybe. Nope. Not going there.

"Young Suri!" his voice boomed, followed by an exaggerated laugh. "Boy, I can't tell you how surprised I was to see my own niece in this year's entrance exams!"

Spoiler; they weren't actually related.

"Now! While you did pass the written portion of the test, you have quite a bit to catch up on. Like many exchange students, you have an uphill battle but if you put in the effort, you'll be one of the best in no time!"

She squeezed the stuffed animal in her lap tight. She figured she hadn't done the best and now would be the moment of truth.

"In the practical portion, you scored 14 points. You showed great potential with your Quirk," he winked at that. All Might knew all about her kind and had even been privy to some of the pack business when it involved villains of the furry kind. You get that perk when one of your long time friends, fellow pro hero, and Suri's dad, is The Wolven Hero: Alpha. He had gone to UA and had been in the same year as All Might and Endeavor, and even debuted at the same time. Hell All Might had been her dad's best man at her parent's wedding.

"However, you showed that you need much more practice and endurance training while using it. You got mighty pooped there towards the end! And overall, your score for villain points comes in at about average among other applicants."

While All Might spoke she was shown camera footage from around the battlegrounds, showing her in action against the smaller robots throughout the course of the exam. There were then shots of her heaving, clearly and visibly exhausted from the effort and energy she had spent. She felt a sting in her gut as he spoke. UA was one of the best hero schools in the world, it was hard enough to get in and they only took the best of the best. And she was average. Average didn't get in. Right? Her stomach dropped and she felt hollow as her eyes became blank and she readied herself for the bad news.

"I know you have vast potential, Young Kuroyashi! And I wish to see you improve on what you can do! But you can't get by on that score!"

Here it comes.

"Which is why there was a second score you kids were graded on in this exam!"

"Wait... What?"

"There's more to being a hero than beating up villains and crooks! A hero, first and foremost, protects and saves people! They put their bodies on the line for the greater good! And you, Suri, did that not only once, but twice!"

The screens showed her running back for the electric user, the dunce that had been wandering like an idiot while the 0-pointer was coming for him. And then another flash of videos of her going to rescue the girl with silver hair and violet dragon wings. She cringed as the videos both paused at two different moments; the first being when she threw the boy to the rest of the group for safety, and then again when she put the girl's weight on her own broken legs.

"Though… you do need some improvement there too…"

"Yeah… Not my best look…"

"While your combat score may not be high, you scored the second most Rescue points among applicants! 50 Rescue Points!"

Her eyes went wide as the screen next to All Might showed a list of names and scores. Her eyes quickly flashed through the list to her name and place on the screen.

No. 5 Itsuka Kendo Villain: 25 Rescue: 40

No. 6 Suri Kuroyashi Villain: 14 Rescue: 50

No. 7 Tenya Iida Villain: 52 Rescue: 9

She made it! Not only that, she scored in the top ten!

"Congratulations! And welcome, Suri, to the UA Hero Course!"

Suri sat motionless for several minutes, staring forward even after the holographic projector disc went dead and the light in the room settled back to the midday streams of sun peeking through her windows. A long few minutes let the initial shock pass and a swelling excitement rose, bubbling to the surface. She cheered loudly, screaming ecstatically as she tossed the plush penguin into the air. The happiness woke her beast and even the monster inside her was pleased, letting prickling energy roll outward and fill her room with pure, energetic joy.

"I.. no, we! We made it!"
