The Sports Festival is underway. Declarations of war are had. And the first round is completed but what will the second round be?
Another dreamless night went by but that was okay in Suri's eyes. No dreams to make her wake up in cold sweats. No dreams that would make her give second glances to her friends and classmates. No dreams of eating people. Thank the gods for that. Nothing that would distract her from today.
Except.
Suri eyed her text from Tooru last night and gave a deep sigh. And then she thought about her friend's words, why she had hung back from Suri for nearly a week and had another thought.
"Shit, they all thought I was going to ask them out or something? Did they assume I was being weird and just said I was going to date and fuck them without asking or anything?"
Suri groaned.
It sounded like a lame excuse. Like that's why you ghost a friend for a week? You're afraid they're gonna ask you out or ask you to go bang in the janitor's closet or something?
Really?!
The answer being that simple but also that potentially dumb made Suri growl and throw herself out of bed. She took a quick shower, made time for a cup of tea while she made herself a protein shake, and then took her gym bag with her to the train station. She was in her casual attire for the morning, with her school uniform in her bag just in case, and another change of clothes with it. She didn't think she'd need the uniform for today. It was a Saturday after all and while normally they could have had a class or two in the morning, classes were out for now.
Why have a class in session when the biggest sporting event in Japan and most of the entire world was going on?
Once off the train she made her way through the front gates of UA. It was barely eight in the morning and already, the campus was filled with people rushing every which way. A good share of the people Suri passed or passed her were some of the third year students and some of the local shop owners setting up booths for food and merch. For the third years, it was like any other school festival if they weren't in the hero courses. They were already setting up their little food stalls or activities for people to enjoy while local business and shop owners set up stalls of their own. For the locals they got the opportunity to promote their business with the influx of people, heroes, press, and more. It was a big business opportunity for them.
Some of the food stalls already had food on their grills or in their ovens and it made Suri's mouth water and involuntarily lick her lips. Instead of stopping, she quickened her pace, got into UA and headed for the gym to get a couple laps around the track to warm up for the day. From the main campus, into the locker room, and out to the Beta Gymnasium, she focused on running and getting ready for the day. As much as she liked the distraction and thoughts that began creeping into her mind, she needed to be at her best.
And with that, she ran.
A dozen laps, a breakfast in the cafeteria supplied by Lunch Rush himself, and a light jog to the stadium later, Suri found herself wandering the halls to find 1-A's locker and waiting room area. She was sipping down water when she crossed paths with one of her classmates and she instantly felt underdressed. While she was in clothes fit for a run in her short shorts and tank top combo, he was in his school uniform. He barely made eye contact or bothered to say a word as he held the door open to their class' designated area for the both of them.
Such a gentleman.
"Morning, Todoroki," Suri finally said as she slipped into the door.
"You're here early," he replied dryly when he saw that they were the only two there so far.
"Had to get a warm up run in. What about you?"
"Being early means less distractions and I need to be at my best today."
He offered a usual stoic answer, took a seat and rested his chin into one of his palms. He closed his eyes and Suri could have sworn he fell asleep just like that. She took the hint, not that he was ever really much of a talkative person, and instead rolled herself into a seat of her own and pulled out her phone. One text from Tooru, a text from Mina, and surprisingly enough, one from Izuku and then three texts and one missed call from… Dad.
Tooru: Good morning, Suri! You awake yet?
Suri: Morning, sleepy head. Yeah, me and Todoroki are already at the stadium.
Next message.
Mina: Morning, Pres! Sorry I've been afk I was training super hard! You wanna ride to school together?
Suri: Morning, Pinky. It's all good. And sorry lol I'm already at school :p
And the next.
Izuku: Good morning, Kuroyashi. Good luck today! Let's do our best!
Suri laughed a little as she wondered how many attempts it took him to text anything at all as she imagined him having a panic attack over texting her. She figured him deciding whether to address her by Suri or Kuroyashi probably took ten minutes by itself. Then she grinned as she opted to tease him, just for him being one of the ones that left her high and dry.
Suri: Morning, my sweet green prince 3 Good luck today!
She snickered a little more as she hit send, her smile wide and her demeanor cheerful until she went to the next messages. Instantly her face dropped into something less than neutral. No more smiling, no more laughing.
Dad: Good morning Pupkit
Dad: I hope you're not still mad at me. How's school? Have you made any friends? I heard about the villain attack at your school, Toshi told me not to worry and that you're fine. He told me what you did and that you know his secret now. We need to talk soon so please stop worrying your old man and call me sometime. Please!
Dad: I love you, Suri. Good luck today. We'll be watching here at home.
Of course they'd be watching. She grumbled under her breath and placed her phone down a little harder than she meant to. It was enough to draw Todoroki's attention and she purposely avoided his gaze. She didn't need his input. Besides, he probably had a great home life. She knew of his dad, knew they were rich, and knew they had a big fancy place. A nice rich family with the number two hero in Japan as the head of the household.
Yeah, must be nice.
Her mood was sour for at least another half hour before, one by one, her classmates began drifting into the room and steadily filling it with excited and joyful energy. Except for Bakugou. Once everyone was counted for Iida stood up and began shouting that they needed to be ready, in their PE uniforms and to look presentable. They were representing UA after all and everyone needed to go get ready. Wasn't that her job? Everyone had taken a collective sigh, spent a couple minutes in the locker rooms, and then came out dressed and ready to go. When they all came out and sat back down, she found herself with Tooru and Mina in the two chairs to her left while Izuku, Uraraka, and Tsu sat across from them.
Not that she minded the company.
As she was listening in on Mina and Izuku talking about heroes and Quirks, her attention was drawn to Todoroki again. He was standing and heading towards them.
"Midoriya."
Izuku turned and stood to face Todoroki, the greenette was nervous about the sudden interaction. And Suri couldn't blame him.
"Yeah, Todoroki, what's up?"
"Looking at things objectively, I think it's fairly clear that I'm stronger than you."
Izuku visibly flinched and curled down a little, making himself smaller.
"Y-yeah."
"However, you have All Might in your corner helping you out. I don't care what's going on between you two but-"
Yeah, it was pretty obvious, though Suri knew why.
"Know that I am going to beat you."
"What's with all these declarations of war lately?" Kaminari groaned.
"Yeah, what's the big deal," Kirishima got up from his seat to come in and play peacekeeper. It was admirable. "Why are you pickin' a fight all of a sudden? And right before we're about to get started?"
"We're not here to be each other's friends. Or a part of a pack," he gave Suri a glare with that comment. "Don't forget. This isn't a team effort."
Except he was wrong. Suri scowled and watched both Todoroki and Izuku. She saw how tense her friend was and then suddenly, he calmed and Suri felt that energy of confidence swell around him. That energy that her and her beast like. A lot.
"Todoroki, hold on."
Izuku looked down and Suri saw the focus in his eyes. Something went across his face like the first time she had seen him at the beach, during his ball throw, and then again during the villain attacks. A grin crossed her lips and she licked her lips again.
"I don't know what's going on in your head or why you think you need to tell me you'll beat me. And, yeah, of course you're better than me. In fact, you probably have way more potential than anyone in the hero course. That's why you got in so easily."
"Midoriya, maybe you're being a little hard on yourself. And us," Kirishima added with a dejected tone.
"No, he's right, you guys. Every other class is going to be coming for us so we have to be at our best. We're gonna have to fight to stand out. So Todoroki," he gave the half and half boy a determined glare. "I'll be aiming for the top too!"
Todoroki simply nodded and began to walk away.
"Yo, Todoroki."
He stopped and looked over his shoulder to Suri, not bothering to give her the full weight of his gaze. It only fired her up more as she rose and came to stand between her green and red haired friends.
"As much as you don't want to like it, I meant what I said when I called this class my pack. Where I come from that means something to call a group your home. No, we're not friends here, you're right about that because a pack is more than just friends. But," she gave him a wide, fang filled grin, "the plus side of being in a pack? We have little events once a month where we get to have fun beating the hell out of each other. We do it for fun or to see who's the strongest and deserves the top spot. So what do you say Todoroki, you in or not?
"Fine."
As Todoroki walked out, Suri turned to look from Izuku to Bakugou to Kirishima and then to Mina, Uraraka, and Tsu.
"Bakugou," Suri walked towards the ashen blonde explosion user and crossed her arms under her breasts. She gave him a wide smirk and let her eyes flicker with Atiena's power as she glared into his crimson eyes. "If we go head to head, you better not hold back. I am going to make you pay for what you said at the Collapse Zone."
"Tsh, whatever, Mohawk," he snarled at her. "If you think you can beat me, you've got another thing comin."
"And Deku," she turned her back on Bakugou and faced the greenette. "You better come at me with that fire in your eyes that you had. If we face each other and you don't, I won't hold back in wiping the floor with you. Same to you, Kirishima," she gave him hard eyes. "No holding back just cause I'm a girl, all right?"
Izuku and Kirshima just stared with startled eyes at her.
"Oh, and Mina, honey," she turned to her friend and gave a wicked grin. "I look forward to our rematch. You owe me for the hair."
Mina gave her friend a wide grin and threw her fist up as she got to her feet.
"Yeah! Bring it!"
Suri laughed and turned around, throwing her left arm over Kirishima's shoulder and wrapped her right arm over Izuku's. She began walking forward, tugging them both at first before they quickly fell into step with her.
"Now, c'mon Class 1-A, let's go prove to the world that we are the best of the best for a reason."
She got a rise of cheers and praise at her back as she pushed her friends along towards the entry tunnel. It wasn't a far walk before they met up with Todoroki and the rest of the class congregated a few paces after. Suri let her arms fall off of the two boy's necks and soon found her now free right arm behind held onto. She turned to find Tooru holding onto her.
"Are you sure that was okay? I don't really like the thought of having to fight my friends."
"It's perfectly fine. It's nothing more than friendly competition and at the end of the day, I can say I'm gonna beat someone's ass like Todoroki, or Bakugou, or Midoriya. One, because it's fun to say and two, because I want to see where I stack up. Stuff like this is how we find out who the pack dominants are and who you have to go through to climb the ranks. This sort of thing is why I've challenged Mathias every Lupanar since I was twelve, and I've only ever come close to beating him once. I want to beat the shit out of him and prove that I've gotten strong enough to do it, but that doesn't mean I don't love him."
"So, this is just a big sibling rivalry kinda thing?" Tooru asked curiously.
"Basically, but..." Suri shrugged and then looked at the four boys in front of her. "I also wanna see if I'm even fit to be their queen."
"HEYYO! MAKE SOME NOISE YOU RABID SPORTS FANS! GET THOSE CAMERAS READY, MEDIA HORDES! THIS YEAR WE'RE BRINGING YOU THE HOTTEST PERFORMANCES IN UA'S FESTIVAL HISTORY, GUARANTEED! I ONLY GOT ONE QUESTION BEFORE WE START THE SHOW: ARE YOU READY!"
Sheesh, Present Mic, really keeps it at 11 doesn't he?
Suri both felt bad for him because he gave every single cell in his body to being the ultimate hype man and spokesperson. He gave everything he got and it never seemed like, even with how loud the crowd was, he got as much back as he gave. Aside from Present Mic's all out performance, the noise from the crowd was thunderous inside the entry tunnel. Suri looked forward, closing her eyes as they got closer to that blinding light until it finally broke and she felt the heat of the sun beating down on them.
"-THE HERO COURSE STUDENTS OF CLASS 1-A!"
"I'm so nervous!" Tooru whined as she walked beside Suri.
"Hey Tooru," Suri smiled as she looked over the packed stadium down to her friend. "It's okay to be nervous. I'm nervous too. I've never been in front of this many people before but you know what? They see me just as much as you so make them really see you, okay?"
"Right!" Tooru replied happily and hugged tightly into Suri's arm.
Suri's smile faded as they got to the center stage and lined up in their classes and she noticed all of the other classes glaring daggers into them. Her expression became stern and she felt Atiena beginning to make mental notes of who scented the most like anger and resentment and which felt dangerous. Truly dangerous.
And then her eyes found something else to focus on and had to fight off the instinct to give a light purr that would run through her entire body. Did someone order a hefty helping of cougar?
"I think someone should talk to Ms. Midnight about what she's wearing," Kirishima whispered, not able to hide the blush creeping up onto his cheeks.
The double standard grated on Suri's nerves.
"Oh please, boys," Suri snickered. "It's nothing worse than what some of us girls wear. Also, she wears her hero costume during class and you're just fine and drooling then, what's the big deal now? Too much of an audience?"
"Silence, everyone!" Suri became stiff and turned her head back towards their art history teacher. "And now for the student pledge we have, Katsuki Bakugou!"
Bakugou began walking forward, hands shoved in his pockets, and utterly silent as he made his way towards the stage. Everyone in Class 1-A was panicking.
"Wait, he's the 1st year-rep?" Midoriya squeaked out.
"I guess he did have the most points in the entrance exam so that sorta makes sense," Sero offered up.
Oh this should be good.
"I just wanna say," Bakugou said dryly into the microphone. "I'm gonna win this thing."
There was a split second of silence and then boos and taunts erupted, all targeted towards Bakugou and 1-A. And then the class itself turned on Bakugou, berating him for what he had said and the even bigger target he just painted on all of their backs
"I'm gonna crush this overconfident jerk!" yelled the white haired boy from the student mob from last week. And then her eyes fell on Izuku who had a deadly serious gaze up at the blonde.
"I don't think it is overconfidence," he muttered. "The old Kaachan would have laughed while saying that, making it a joke."
"He's more focused than ever," Suri added with her own whisper and the two watched as he pushed himself hard through Izuku. That deep look of intense rage coupled with determination reminded her of someone. She had seen that look in her own eyes. And for that moment, that split second, Suri admired the hell out of Bakugou.
"Without further ado, it's time for us to get started!" Midnight called, getting everyone's attention back to her and the stage again. And once again, Suri noticed how much she rather enjoyed her flogger and her kinks, "this is where you'll start feeling the pain! The first fateful game of the festival is!"
She raised her flogger into the air and a giant holographic screen appeared behind her with a graphic that was reminiscent of a slot machine. The choice cycled fast through the middle gold frame rapidly, not giving away what any of the choices were until it abruptly came to a stop on its answer. There was puzzlement in some of the students and excitement in the others as they all read; Obstacle Race.
"All 11 classes will participate in this treacherous contest. The track is four kilometers around the outside of the stadium. I don't want to restrain anyone, at least in this game."
Suri almost busted up laughing from the comment and the double entendre.
"As long as you don't leave the course, you're free to do whatever your heart desires! Now then," she pointed towards a large red gate similar to the entrances all of the students entered through. "Take your places, contestants."
As they began walking towards the gate, Atiena flared up and narrowed her eyes at the gate from the inside of Suri's mind. Suri's eyes scanned the surroundings and narrowed her eyes as well, her hand seeking out Tooru's and gripping it tight as she pulled the invisible girl to her side.
"Tooru, stay close to me, okay?"
Suri watched the green lights above the gate countdown and narrowed her eyes before letting a growl rise from her core. Her power, the beast known as Atiena, rose up from that forest clearing and let their shared power pour into her human body and roll off her skin like a wave of heat. She felt Tooru shiver from the feeling of power soak against her invisible body and then let out a little gasp as she watched her friend partially transform. In an instant, Suri's eyes had rolled to black and chartreuse, her ears more pointed, more prominent fangs and claws, and lastly her powerful tail flicking outward from her lower spine. The sudden change made some of the students around her jump back, but her classmates caught on and their gazes hardened as well as they watched the lights go from two to one.
"Begin!"
Suri swung herself in one fluid motion as she pulled Tooru into her, lifting the girl off of her feet into a bridal style carry, and then once she faced the gate again she lunged forward, rushing the crowd. She forced the two of them forward to get towards the head of the pack that lurched through the bottleneck tunnelway. She buried her shoulders into people next to her as she trudged through, forcing her and Tooru into the mass of bodies. Her breath caught as a cold chill breathed down her neck and she turned to see a cascade of ice stretching across the ground at a rapid pace.
"Shit," Suri jumped upwards towards the side wall of the tunnel and dug her right claws as deep as she could get them into the cement wall. She snarled as she hung herself and Tooru from the sidewall and watched as Todoroki skated past them using his ice and freezing the crowd of people inside the tunnel. "Damn him!"
Suri jumped forward and began rushing after him with Tooru in her arms. She heard yelling behind her and looked back to see Kirishima, Bakugou, Aoyoma, and Yaoyorozu already propelling themselves through the air and out of the tunnel. Then not far behind them she saw Mina skate through on her acid, Ojiro using his tail to keep himself on high ground, and Mineta with a flurry of purple orbs to help break himself free from the herd as well. She grinned seeing her friends.
She was proud of them. But she couldn't be outdone, could she?
Not a chance in hell.
She went down to all fours and began running forward with Tooru on her heels. As she rapidly approached a sheet of Todoroki's ice that blanketed the rest of the course ahead of them she grinned to Tooru.
"Piggyback or ice skating?"
"I um! I dunno! I-Ice skating!" Tooru cried out in a rushed panic.
"Grab my tail, hold on tight!" Suri leaped forward, digging her claws from her hands and her feet into the ice for traction. Meanwhile Tooru grabbed the long, bushy feline tail and held on for dear life as Suri pulled her on the ice. The invisible girl tripped and fell and was dragged for a few yards by her friend but gave out a loud roar of her own and somehow managed to get her feet under her. She shifted her weight and let her feet skate along the ice as she was towed by Suri like a skier behind a boat on water.
Once Todoroki saw how many people had escaped his plan he let off, and stopped freezing the ground. Soon enough Suri, a good share of her class, and more than a few of the other classes were past his ice and hot on his heels. Mineta was the closest, readying to attack Todoroki… until he wasn't.
Suri watched the purple balled midget fly through the air after being struck by a giant mechanical arm. When the path opened up, all of the students were confronted with a small army of robots from the entrance exams. Including several 0-pointers. Suri charged forward with Tooru right behind her, chasing after Todoroki who barely cared about the opponents in front of them. The two of them watched as massive amounts of ice began forming around him as a 0-pointer reached down to crush him only to be covered in a giant glacier.
"There, through its legs," Tooru shouted and began chasing after Todoroki.
"Tooru, wait," Suri called out rushing to her friend as the building size robot began to crumble and fall. She lunged forward, cradling Tooru into her arms as she slid the two of them through the collapsing pathway Todoroki had provided. They barely made it through the other side as the entire robot came crashing down and potentially flattened some of their fellow students. "That motherfucking bastard!"
Suri helped Tooru to her feet and the two of them began chasing after the half and half boy, both of them now furious at the move he pulled. They followed behind him down another long narrow path that wound around the outside of the stadium until they saw where the ground opened up into a giant pit. The two of them growled and glared at Todoroki as he breezed through the next obstacle, skating on his ice across the narrow tight ropes that connected the dozens of small pillars of ground that made the only solid ground in the giant pungee pit obstacle.
"Suri, I want you to let me do this on my own," Tooru said with a determined tone. "I need to know that I can do this. I really really appreciate your help so far but you're right. I need to make everyone see me."
Suri simply smiled and held out a fist that Tooru promptly bumped with her own and the two went their own way to two separate tightropes across the ravine. Suri walked herself back towards the thinner path as other students began coming through.
"See you on the other side, sweet thing," she shouted towards her friend who had already begun a treacherous balancing act across the rope.
Suri dug into her power as she reached the edge like she had during the long jump of their assessment test and launched herself forward. As she started her descent towards the middle of the rope she angled herself to catch the edge of the rope, swing her body down underneath it and then use the momentum to slingshot herself through. She flew through the air a second time and landed onto the first platform and made sure not to stop or slow down momentum as she repeated the movement a second and third time as she slowly gained ground on Todoroki.
As Suri was getting to the fourth and final platform before the edge of the obstacle she heard explosion after explosion behind her. And as she was in her second airborne movement she got a blast of heat directly to her face as Bakugou passed her. The blast threw her off her trajectory and she skidded towards the edge of the platform on her side. She stopped within inches of falling into the pit and looked up to let out a snarling roar at Bakugou.
"Outta my way, Mohawk!"
She brushed herself off, noticing the faint scratches and cuts down her arm from sliding across the rocky surface. It only made her angrier and she raced towards the edge again, making the last leap and then began running to nip at the heels of Bakugou and Todoroki. She was rushing forward, gaining on the two in front of her until she forced herself to skid to a stop.
"Mines! Really?" she shouted to herself, catching her breath as her chest heaved in heavy rise and falls. She calmed herself to focus on the sense of feeling in her feet and focus her eyes to see where the mines lay in the ground. Just like the other obstacles, this was meant to bottleneck the other players, slowing everyone down, including the leaders. Suri knew if she could get through this quickly and efficiently she could catch up to the two in front of her.
She was a quarter of the way through and her concentration was holding up great until she began hearing a chorus of explosions from both in front of her and behind her. Up ahead she watched Todoroki and Bakugou in a sort of dance as they fought each other while avoiding the mines at their feet. It was a beautiful sight to watch. Behind her she watched as students accidentally tripped the mines, sending themselves hurling into the air. It was becoming harder to focus.
"Atiena," she spoke to herself as she moved between the hazards below her feet.
"Yes, Suri," her inner beast answered back.
"Do we keep going like this and make sure we get through without tripping any of these things or do we say fuck it?"
"Hmm," her beast thought for a moment. "Strategically, we are just fine if we continue as we are. I don't believe a third place finish behind those two is necessarily a bad thing, however…"
"We don't want to lose to them either," Suri narrowed her gaze and felt her beast let a grin curl over her lips.
"Then we, as you say, fuck it."
The two laughed in unison, coming out as her layered voice as she crouched down to her pouncing position. She lunged forward as she had on the ice and began sprinting on all fours in a zigzag motion, setting off several mines in her wake but escaping the blasts in time. She gained quickly on the two as they fought, watching as Bakugou kept trying to land a blast induced punch to Todoroki while he himself kept freezing the explosion users arms. She was about to jump for them and was planning on punching them both in the face when a massive blast from behind them caught the attention of the three of them. They all watched in a mix of anger at each other, and anticipation and worry from the blast behind them as they saw Izuku riding a sheet of metal like a snow sled through the air.
He flew past them and the three of them instantly turned their focus from each other to chasing down the flying greenette. They raced towards the exit, the last stretch of mines as Midoriya was coming down. Suri was in the middle of the pack and saw Midoriya coming down in front of her. She had an itch to reach out and help him but held back and, instead, put on the brakes as she saw what he was about to do. She stopped short of a group of mines and got a blast to the face as Midoriya swung the sheet of metal he had been riding and slammed it on the ground. The force of the impact set off the mines and flung him forward with a burst of momentum once again, leaving Suri, Bakugou, and Todoroki behind.
Suri stumbled backwards as she avoided the percussive blast and had a moment of bedazzlement as she watched her friend. Watched as he propelled himself forwards towards the tunnel back into the arena. She crouched down again and raced forward with the other three, gaining on Midoriya as the tunnel came to an end. She ground down into her beast's power and threw herself forward, running as hard and as fast as she could. With a guttural scream she raced forward and flung herself through the air towards the finish line and crossed it with a long rolling somersault to make sure she didn't face plant at the finish line.
She never reached Midoriya though.
She skidded to a stop and stood, letting her chest rise and fall quickly as she took in the roar of the crowd and looked around at the sight itself. She may not have come in first but that would have just been the cherry on top to being able to compete in front of this many people. She eyed Izuku and grinned wide.
"Nicely done, Prince Deku," she teased, giving him a smack on the back. He was about to fluster again when another voice called out.
"Deku! That was amazing," Uraraka panted and heaved. She looked down right exhausted and like she was about to pass out, or throw up. "I can't believe you two got first and second place. I'm so jealous!"
"Hey, you didn't do too bad yourself, hun," Suri replied with a gentle bump of her fist to Uraraka's shoulder.
"H-Haha, it was nothing," Deku replied, shielding himself from both girls with a bright red face.
Suri laughed at the display and turned to watch the tunnel. She jogged forward to the gate, first stopping at Mina and pulling the pinkette into a tight hug. As she squeezed her acid user friend she found Tooru panting as she made her way towards them. Suri squeezed both of them tight and cheered.
"Guys, you made the top fifty. That's amazing!"
"Look who's talking, Miss Second Place," Mina jeered with a smile.
"I barely made it in the top thirties," Tooru sighed, sounding defeated. "I don't think I would have made it in if you hadn't of helped me the first half. I'm so jealous of your Quirks!"
Suri frowned and looked at her friend.
"Tooru, I'm sorry. I was just trying to help, I wasn't trying to make you feel bad."
"I know, I just-"
"Girl, don't beat yourself up," Mina nudged their invisible friend and gave her a caring smile. "You did the two obstacles that slowed everyone down the most all by yourself and you still made it in at what, 37th? That's not bad at all."
"Only the top 42 will make it to the next round," Midnight announced, which made Tooru's heart and stomach drop to the floor. She had been that close to not making it. "But don't be too let down if you didn't make the cut! We've prepared other opportunities for you to shine!"
Why did Midnight just lick her lips?
"Now the real fun is about to begin. The chance to fully move yourselves into the limelight! Give it your best! Let's see what we have in store for you next!"
Once again the giant slot machine image popped up on the holographic screen behind Midnight as she held her flogger high in the air. The students watched as it cycled rapidly once again and then came to another abrupt stop.
Cavalry Battle.
"What… is a cavalry battle," Suri questioned, turning to her two friends with a confused expression.
"Let me explain," Midnight replied almost on cue. "Participants will form teams of two to four people as they see fit. It's the same as a regular playground game-"
"Except I didn't play playground games like that," Suri grumbled as she looked at the picture shown. It was All Might riding on top of three people, Thirteen in front while Present Mic and another teacher let All Might right on their shoulders. It was… different.
"-each player has been assigned a point value based on their performance in the obstacle race."
"Ahh so each team will have a different amount of points based on which people are a part of that group," Uraraka deciphered.
"Uh huh!" Mina replied excitedly.
"Will you shut up and let me explain things!" Midnight yelled at the two of them. "Now then, the point system goes up 5 increments with each place. So the person that came in 42nd is worth five points, the person in 41st place is worth ten points. And the point value assigned to the person in first place is… ten million!"
Silence.
And then everyone looked towards Izuku who had gone pale with his deer in the headlights expression. He was sweating bullets.
"In other words, all you gotta do is take down his team…" Suri eyed a girl with weird looking goggles and pink dreadlocks. Her aura screamed; crazy girl.
"-and you'll win the Cavalry game and take the lead yourself," nearly everyone finished.
"That's right! It's survival of the fittest with the chance for those at the bottom to overthrow the top!" Midnight cheered.
Suri thought about that and remembered her words to her classmates before this all began. It really was like a Lupanar. You got the chance to fight and go at each other for fun. And then you had the chance to raise your stake in the pack, come from the bottom and claw your way to the top of the pack. It felt like… home.
"You have 15 minutes to create your teams and time starts… now!"
Suri groaned loudly and hung her head.
"Can't we just do 3 on 3 basketball?"
Nope. No they could not.
