The Provisional Licensing exam begins and Suri meets a familiar face. That familiar face is not happy. Suri and Aoyama share in their martyr complex.
Today was the day.
Everyone's nerves were on fire from the time they loaded onto the bus in front of the dorms and to the building where their provisional exams were being held. Even more so when the size of the building dwarfed the expectations of everyone. Seriously, the place was fucking huge. Then they got frazzled even more when, as soon as they got off the bus, they ran into Shiketsu High.
They had some… interesting… students to say the least.
Then came the eye opening experience of someone being head over heels for Aizawa. It was more than cute and adorable to watch Ms. Joke shoot her shot over and over again just to have their teacher dryly shoot her down. It did bring up the old thought Suri had had about seeing Mr. Aizawa genuinely smile or laugh. If anyone had a chance of making that happen it was her. Whether it came down to her using her Quirk on him or if she just caught him off guard was anyone's guess.
Honestly, Ms. Joke was pretty attractive and Aizawa could do a lot worse.
Suri instantly shipped them.
Then Suri felt a shiver of heat roll through her as Ms. Joke's students stepped forward. It made her roll her neck and close her eyes as she eased that spark of tension that flared in her muscles and her eyes laid into the very familiar figure walking towards her.
"Whoa! It's really them!" A tall, fairly handsome looking guy said with excitement. It was almost a little jarring to see how similar he and Izuku looked. Maybe a preview of what a couple inches in height and aging would do to the greenette. It was a good preview.
"Wow! All those guys from TV," a girl with spiky blonde hair and sharp teeth added in.
"Taking the test as first-years? Pretty fast paced, but with everything that's happened… no wonder they're so capable," the boy next to her continued.
"Tch, not as capable as I've been."
Suri smirked wide, rolling her eyes and folding her arms tight across her chest as she stared Yukari down. The bitch was as cocky as ever it seemed. And Suri let a throaty growl begin to rumble as the two of them locked eyes.
"Yukari," Suri laid on her friendliest voice, though the growling had only made the tension grow.
"Suri," the smaller girl responded, throwing on a friendly smile. Though her eyes were filled to the brim with arrogance.
Ms. Joke cleared her throat then.
"This is Class 2-2 of Ketsubutsu Academy," she declared. "Say hello to my students."
"My name's Shindo," the tall boy came forward, quickly shaking everyone's hands. "UA's had it rough this year, right? The hits just keep coming! But you guys still have your hearts set on becoming heroes. That's awesome! I believe the heroes of tomorrow need to have that kind of fortitude!"
Oh he was good.
Suri's eyes narrowed at him after taking his hand and shaking it as he made his rounds. The bright, cheerful tone in his voice didn't match the air he was radiating. And if you weren't looking for it or could smell the deception on his skin, he'd fool you.
"And best of all, here's Bakugou, who was at the heart of the whole Kamino mess! You've got the strongest will of all!"
Suri heard Bakugou growl then. Or maybe it was her. This Shindo guy had some massive fucking balls barking up the tree he was headed for.
"I'm so glad we get a chance to face guys of your caliber today. We're going to give it our best!"
"Cut the shit!" Bakugou sneered. "Your lips can flap all they want but your dumb mug says it all."
"Knock it off, man," Kirishima complained, before apologizing for his best friend's behavior.
Suri simply snickered and shook her head, happy that at least Bakugou was able to see through the bullshit this guy was spilling. The blonde girl with them, Tatami, seemed to be genuine in her excitement of meeting some of her classmates. Then there was the other lycanthrope.
"I see you fucked up big time," the fellow wolpard chuckled as she came to stand in front of Suri. "I thought you had better control over your beast than that?"
"And I thought you'd be taller by now," Suri grinned. "But hey, it's not like you've gone toe to toe with a rogue werehyena. I'm down to eight lives now."
Yukari's eyes widened and she quickly looked at Suri's classmates. Like she'd blurted something out that was supposed to be secret. Whoops.
"Yeah, they all know," Suri quipped with a shrug. "What are you doing with a bunch of second years anyway?"
"Ah, Kurogami," Shindo piped up with a sweet voice that just felt slimy from the show he was still putting on. "So she's the other hybrid then, huh?"
"Yeah, that's me," Suri said coldly, her eyes narrowing at the two of them. "Suri Kuroyashi. I'm sure Yukari here's told you so much about me."
"She has actually. We were pretty surprised to learn about her and what you guys are a few weeks ago. Her mom and dad brought their groups in and basically told us everything right before Kamino happened. The whole thing was fascinating!"
"I'm here," Yukari said, cutting off Shindo, "because of what happened with the hyena. My mom and dad told our principal that they needed more licensed heroes coming out of the preternatural community to get a head start on people like your friend."
"Sweetie, I'm not friends with her," Suri growled. "Assume that shit again and I will give you the same beating I-"
"Hey! Change into your costumes," Mr. Aizawa called out. "The info session's about to start so stop wasting time! Kuroyashi, you're in charge from here. Got it?"
"Yes, sir! Class 1-A," Suri called out, her eyes never leaving Yukari's. "Grab your suitcases off the bus. I'm giving you ten minutes to get in, get changed, and regroup. We gucci?"
"Yes, ma'am," everyone called out in unison.
"See you inside, YuYu," Suri smirked with a low rumbling purr before giving the shorter wolpard a sarcastic kissing gesture. It served two purposes, one, to piss off Kurogami, and two, give Suri the pleasure of seeing her pissed off.
Ten minutes later, everyone was back together.
And they'd followed Suri's instructions wonderfully.
It gave Suri a little ego boost which helped to shake off the nerves that had begun to take shape while she was in the locker room changing into her hero costume with her girlfriends and classmates. She hadn't realized she'd been so nervous about taking the exam because she hadn't been worrying about it for the last week and a half. They'd been far too busy to get butterflies. They'd been working on ultimate moves, which saw Suri and Izuku revamping their entire move sets, and helped everyone get stronger.
Suri had even taken one of the days to teach her classmates the basics of immobilizing and defending themselves from lycanthropes. She'd taught them how to try and spot her kind, which was far easier for the half of the class that was metaphysically sensitive. And as far as her regaining all of her classmates' trust? She'd figured she'd done pretty well on that front. It was amazing how a lesson on 'hey, do this if you wanna try and really hurt or kill me' changed the perspectives of those who were still hesitant around her.
And the best part of the last ten days?
Suri had rearranged her fighting style a little to accommodate the new additions to her hero costume, and she'd managed to come up with a few ultimate moves. She now had a small wheelhouse of techniques she could rely on. And she wasn't going into battle with just teeth and claws because she was now packing support items and weapons. She felt more confident in her potential as a hero than ever before.
Okay, so that was the second best part.
Her move set hadn't been the only thing that had been rearranged in the last ten days. Not if the stinging in her core lingering from last night was any indication. Or the only one for that matter. In the two weeks since their first time; Izuku had already spent the night twice with her, Tooru, and Mina. And the three of them had already stolen a shirt or hoodie from him. As per girlfriend law. Suri was definitely looking forward to more nights with Izuku. And the nights he hadn't spent with any of them in his bed or him in their beds? They'd woken up to his awkwardly adorable selfies. It was unfair how he and Tooru could go from dopey and shy to drop dead sexy. Especially now, thanks to the support course, Tooru was no longer invisible 24/7 and was no longer running around butt naked all the time. Well, except when she wanted to be.
And now she was thinking about a shower selfie from Izuku or seeing a totally visible and totally naked Tooru in a room of about twelve hundred people or more.
Good job Suri.
"There's so many," Izuku muttered as he cautiously looked around the room.
"I know, right," Ochako answered back just as nervously.
"How do you test this many people? Are they gonna split us up like the exams for UA," Suri thought out loud.
"They'd have to, right?" Kaminari pondered nervously.
"Right… the Provisional Licensing Exam. That's what you're here for," a man said at the front of the room. He managed to look even more scraggly, tired, and unkempt than Aizawa. Their teacher at least looked attractive in a way somehow, this guy looked like dogshit. "Yeah… I'm Mera with the Hero Public Safety Commission. My favorite type of sleep is non-rem sleep."
What?
"Work is so busy that I barely get any sleep. We're terribly short staffed… Just wanna sleep."
"Yo, is this guy for real," Suri grimaced as they all listened to him mumble and grumble his way through his words.
"With that important information out of the way, let me explain the exam," he stated dryly, like he hadn't been complaining about sleep a second before. "Getting right to it, all 1,540 examinees present will be competing in one massive free-for-all exercise."
"All of us?" Tooru muttered nervously, her green pearlescent hair flipping and fluttering as she looked around nervously.
Suri couldn't help but stare and look her girlfriend up and down as she fidgeted in her skin tight baby blue and pink bodysuit that matched her now trademark gloves and boots. The rhinestones in her gloves and boots were now replaced with crystals, specifically moon crystals, which had the capability of storing and manipulating energy. Especially light. As a bonus, until Tooru was able to figure out for herself how to concentrate the light around her into the frequency she needed to keep her visible, she had a bracelet she could wear daily. The bracelet had the ability to shift the light frequency around her so she could be visible when she wanted, if it was turned off, she was invisible again. It worked hand in hand with her new suit and Suri couldn't have been more happy for the increased happiness and joy her girlfriend had now.
"Today's society is saturated with heroes and ever since Stain's capture the public has questioned the role heroes play in that society. The title of hero shouldn't be given to those seeking reward or recompense," he continued. "That said, telling people to risk their lives without compensation is sort of harsh. Whether it's for compensation or dedication to the cause we have no shortage of heroes working to save people and put villains away. Nowadays the time it takes to resolve any sort of incident is incredibly short. Those of you that earn your license will be confronting situations at breakneck speed. Those who can't keep up are doomed to fail. Which is why we're testing you on speed."
Suri's eyes narrowed and a small smile began to curl its way onto her lips. Speed was something she was good at. Speed was something she'd been working on the last ten days. Speed was one of her specialties.
"Only the first one hundred examinees to complete the challenge will pass."
That made everyone freeze and a mass collection of dread and despair filled the room. Suri felt sick to her stomach and looked around to her friends and classmates. She feared for them and for herself.
"That's not even close to half!" Someone shouted angrily and Suri had to agree with the sentiment behind it.
"Life is rarely so kind so there's no relying on luck," Mera stated in a bored tone.
That… made sense too.
"Now then," the man held up two items, a ball and some sort of pad-like device in his hands. "Each examinee will get three targets. Place them wherever you want on your body, so long as they're exposed. Also, all of you will be carrying six balls. The targets are rigged to only light up when stuck by one of these balls. You're disqualified when all three targets on your body are lit. Three illuminated targets mean defeat. You must defeat two other examinees to pass. So that's the rules. We'll begin handing out balls and targets once this place opens up. You'll have one minute to prepare once everyone is equipped."
"Opens up?" Suri and everyone around he questioned.
Then, they looked up, hearing the creaking noises coming from the roof. Everyone stared in shock as the walls and roof collapsed outward to reveal the massive arena they were apparently in the middle of. The sheer size of it dwarfed the UA stadium which had been massive on its own accord. While they were still gawking and being shocked over the giant reveal everyone was given their targets and balls.
Looking at the targets, Suri decided to try and make things more realistic and competitive. She placed each in different spots she'd aim for if she was going to immobilize or really hurt an opponent. Or rather, where she'd be weak. Center of her back, her right thigh, and directly over her heart. Getting stabbed in real life in any of those three spots while you're fighting for your life meant death. Might as well take this seriously, right?
"Early bird gets the worm here," Izuku said as he positioned his targets and began thinking out loud. "People won't be fighting their classmates here. It's better to team up with friends whose Quirks you know. Seems like the way to win."
"Agreed," Suri nodded, her eyes carefully watching some of the students around them paying close attention to her class for some reason. "It'll be more to our advantage moving and striking as a group, rather than individually."
"Right! We need to stick together," Izuku grinned and nodded happily.
Then that plan went to shit.
Bakugou ran off by himself, because of course he did. But thankfully he didn't end up alone because Kirishima and Kaminari took off after him. Kaminari, for his part, did look back at Suri and Izuku and give them a thumbs up. At least he was trying to turn them into their own little group to help with their chances. Then came Todoroki who ran off by himself as well. No one was able to follow him, but he had made a point of saying he couldn't use his Quirk if they were too tightly packed together. Which, of course, was logical. It didn't stop Suri from grumbling about their group splitting up before things even started.
"Fuck it, let's move guys!" Suri called out and the rest of the class began running with her and Izuku to get out of the middle of the arena.
FOUR
"But why," Mineta called out and asked.
"Because, well, our moves are already well known," Izuku answered.
THREE
"The way to win I mentioned? It's what other schools are probably thinking too. This is going to turn into a battle between schools."
TWO
"And there's only one school who's lost the advantage of having unknown Quirks. One school who's had all of their top student's strengths and weaknesses exposed to the entire world because of the Sports Festival."
ONE
"Let's show em' why that plan is a big fuckin mistake," Suri growled and let a grin curl onto her lips. She exposed fangs that grew in length as she opened up her power, Atiena encircling her arms around Suri inside their mind to take beast woman form and let the prickling energy wash over every one of her classmates.
START
When the buzzer sounded, literally hundreds of people turned their attention to the sixteen of them. Within a split second, balls were flying towards them in a hail storm. That said, their quick actions took care of the flurry of balls being thrown at them. Izuku brought out his new Shoot Style, kicking a dozen away by himself, Mina threw up a wall of acid that melted several more, and Suri brought out her new support weapon, batting a dozen away with a swing of one of her escrima sticks. Between all of them, they were showing off the hard work they'd all put in and were facing the challenge head on.
"The balls're going underground!" Izuku shouted. Suri saw the plain looking guy that had come with Ketsubutsu and realized he was controlling the flight path of the balls. And he'd sent them underground towards them.
"Everyone get back! This is my job!" Jirou shouted as she rushed to the front of the group. Her earphones plugged into the devices on her wrists and she put them to the ground. She growled and then screamed out her ultimate move which turned the ground into dust in front of them, turning the flat earth into an earthquake zone. "Heartbeat Distortion!"
With the ground torn up, it exposed the balls which the blue skinned guy from Ketsubutsu had turned into stone. They were headed for Mineta and he screamed in panic.
"Acid Veil!" Mina shouted as she launched a massive wall of acid above them, melting the balls instantly. "Stickiness and acidity to the max!"
"You saved me," Mineta cheered tearfully. "Nice move."
"It's a defensive wall that melts everything away," she happily chirped, boasting about her move.
"Black Abyss!" Tokoyami shouted behind them, cloaked in Dark Shadow who destroyed several balls that were coming for them.
The display made everyone take note that even though they were first years and had had cameras and media on them since practically day one; UA hadn't been slacking. The media circus and the villain attacks hadn't distracted them, no, it pushed them harder. And now the other schools had been put on notice. Notice that Shindo took to heart and turned the ground in front of them into an utter warzone, creating an earthquake that was bigger and harsher than Jirou's. The earthquake threw all of them every which way and the last thing Suri saw before pillars and mountains of crumbled stone blocked her view was Deku and Mina being thrown in opposite directions of her and each other.
Suri hit the ground. Hard.
It made her vision blurry and she had a ringing in her ears, which meant she'd been launched high into the air. Higher than she'd realized and hit the ground harder than she'd expected. The flying and being thrown made a wash of anxiety and panic surge through her because she remembered the last time she'd been thrown like that. Her mind raced and began searching for the villainous werehyena she knew wasn't there. The memory of that night terrified her.
"One hundred and twenty examinees are out! All taken down by a single fighter!"
It was distant and tinny but she heard the announcement come over the intercom. That announcement made her blink fast, trying to regain composure quickly. The shock of the announcement helped because holy fuck, there was someone strong enough to do that? The sheer logistics of trying to figure out how one person could do that made Suri's mind refocus on something other than the ghost of Gemini.
The feeling of being scared of Gemini's ghost wasn't helped by the feel of lycanthropic power and the scent of her own kind lingering nearby. The scent of the intention was at least a little nicer than what the werehyena had been. Where Gemini wanted to fight to the death and smelled of bloodlust, this one just smelled pissed. Suri finally got the cobwebs shaken out of her head and let her eyes focus on the girl in front of her.
Not much had changed in Yukari's costume since the internship. The fur trim now went all the way down the front of her leather vest. The shape of the luchador mask was modified to fit the shape of her face when she took on beastwoman form. It fit the anthropomorphic features that presented themselves so it didn't fit awkwardly from human to beast forms. She head ditched the jeans she originally wore for pants that were still denim but custom made with intricate aztec styled patterns down the outer seams. They came with knee and thigh pads which meant her kicks and knee strikes would hurt that much more.
"Ya know," Suri sighed as she crouched down into a striking position. "I dunno why you're so pissed at me or flat out hate me right now. I haven't seen you or heard from you in, what, almost two months? So what the hell did I do to get your panties all in a twist?"
Yukari said nothing. Instead she snarled and launched herself at Suri, fists balled tight and swinging towards the beast girl. She didn't have a ball in hand so she wasn't going for the targets at all. If she wanted to fist fight, who was Suri to turn her down? Suri parried the punch coming for her face and dipped, pounding an elbow into Yukari's ribs.
The shot to the ribs did another thing, because Suri put her power into it, and sent Yukari flying backwards towards a wall of rock and stone. She hit it, crushing it into pieces, but managed to get up quickly and let her power flare hotter. She came at Suri again, the air where she had been was left shimmering as Yukari suddenly appeared in front of her. It forced her to use her own blinding speed to counter the next several blows and strikes that Yukari launched. She wasn't attacking with the balls or going for the targets, which meant Yukari was fighting Suri just to fight. It threw Suri off because she couldn't remember how or what she'd done to piss her off so much. She thought they'd left Grandma Kuroyashi's agency on relatively good terms.
Suri dipped the next flurry of firsts and kicks and managed to catch Yukari by one of her legs. She held her knee snug against her side with one arm and used the other to block and parry her next strikes. The smaller wolpard was heated, snarling and screaming obscenities and incoherent sounds as she laid into Suri, even captured as she was.
"You," she snarled, glaring hatefully at Suri. "What gives you the right to ruin the lives of so many of our kind?!"
"What the hell are you talking about," Suri spat back, her brows curled upwards in confusion.
"Gemini, you idiot," the girl sneered and reared her head back before slamming it into Suri's.
The headbut rocked Suri hard enough that she dropped Yukari and stumbled backwards, clutching her forehead. As she gripped and rubbed at the spot that was now throbbing with sharp pain, she took a strike from one of Yukari's shins as she punt kicked Suri's knee. It buckled the beast girl onto one knee and put her at a disadvantage defending herself. Suri snarled and let her power boil from inside her and thrust that hot, electric wind outward, letting it whip and smack against the girl above her. It forced Yukari back enough for Suri to get back to her feet.
"What about her, dammit," Suri snarled and drew her fists upwards into a boxing stance.
"You haven't heard, have you?" Yukari barked back. "When you stepped in for your brother, you created a wave in the pond. When everyone heard what you did, some of our kind started going against their clan leaders. In Gemini's case she murdered hers and took the title of Oba. A lot of the clans are seeing what happened and found out your shitstorm is what caused this mess. Us," Yukari growled, motioning to herself and Suri, "we're gonna be the last. If some of the clans get their way, no one else gets to go into hero work. We're going to have stricter rules, less rights. The younger clanmates that look up to me are scared. And all of this is because of you! And let's not forget something else, while we're filling your dumbass in. You… You helped ruin All Might's career!"
Suri was left stunned and dumbfounded by everything Yukari was saying. The claims, the allegations, everything was just outright…
"Bullshit."
"Don't-"
"No," Suri scoffed, shaking her head and giving Yukari the weight of her confusion and outrage at the claims. "No. No one's using me as a scapegoat. I'm not going to be the reason we all go back into hiding. You know that's completely unfair and absolute bullshit!"
Suri rushed Yukari then, leaving a shimmering after image of herself in her place before appearing inches from the smaller girl's face. With all of her rage from the accusations, she plowed her fist into the other wolpard's face, rocking her hard and sending her forcefully flying backwards. She left Yukari lying on the ground to pick herself up while Suri paced angrily.
"Fucking old ass pricks! Interfering was the right thing to do. Saving the life of my Ulfric was the right thing to do. If I'm at fault for breaking a rule then so was he! Everyone knows good goddamn well that deathmatches were outlawed almost sixty fucking years ago! And I was fucking cleared of charges, you can ask my brother and my dad about that. I refuse to be blamed for people like Gemini. I will not stand by and be treated like me and her are one and the same. You! You of all people should know me better than that, you little bitch," Suri snarled spitefully at Yukari. "You and I, we will not be the last heroes to come from the preternatural community. I will knock down every fucking door if I have to. If there's more than just Gemini out there, then we have to step up. You know we're the only ones who can beat people like her."
She then glared hard at Yukari.
"And what happened to All Might? I had nothing to do with that mess. He and Gemini never faced off, it was him and that All for One guy. Our kind had no part in that."
"Tch, so what," Yuakri scoffed. "I just go home and tell mom and dad to go against hundreds of other leaders? You want us to be warring with each other?"
Yukari rushed Suri then with blinding speed and Suri soon found herself wrapped up and twisted uncomfortably. Yukari had used the luchador motif in her movements, quickly wrapping one of Suri's arms behind her in a chicken wing lock while the other was wrapped in Yukari's in an armbar. Yukari was putting on a grappler's submission hold, threatening to pop Suri's arms out of their sockets. She had Suri with nowhere to go but Suri had a thought that; if she wanted to go prowrestling on her, Suri could play that game. She pulled a move out of a classic wrestler's playbook and kicked her legs out from under her, falling to the ground and taking Yukari with her. As Suri's butt hit the ground hard, Yukari's chin was met by Suri's shoulder, jamming the shorter girl's jaw and sending her stumbling backwards as she started to see stars.
The classic Stone Cold Stunner had her... well… stunned.
Suri quickly got to her feet and took off at blinding speed, putting Yukari into the middle of a five point star pattern. Her speed resulted in multiple images of Suri surrounding the smaller girl, then she poured her energy out of her core to allow her to go faster, going from five points to ten. When Yukari looked up, she was surrounded by a hot electric wind and nearly a dozen Suri's glaring at her.
"Ten?" Yukari whispered, shock beginning to fill her eyes. "So you're copying granny and the old man, huh?"
"No," all ten Suris stated in unison. Then Yukari was rocked with a hit to the shoulder, followed quickly by another on the opposite side, and then one more. The third strike saw one of her targets, the one placed on her abdomen light up. "They may have laid the foundation for me to walk on but this is my move. This is…"
The strikes on Yukari started coming faster. She was hit in the chest, then the kidney, then the face, her side, the strikes coming faster with less time in between. The force was sending the wolpard back and forth, keeping her off balance and unable to stay upright. Suddenly, the group surrounding Yukari collapsed in on itself and the greenette was hit ten or more times all at once.
"Jury of Wolves!"
Yukari was pummeled in one go and left collapsing onto the ground after getting her entire body rocked with multiple fists. She had been struck in the head, chest, back, and sides and pain was throbbing wildly throughout her. It felt like she'd run a gauntlet during a Lupanar. To make things worse, when she pulled herself back up, Yukari realized that a second one of her targets had been lit up. All she had was one left and then she'd be eliminated. When she looked up, Suri was already standing over her, ball in hand. Suri just looked at the other girl, sighing and shaking her head as she did so.
"What're you waiting for? You've got the upper hand so why not tag me out, huh?" Yukari scowled and sneered.
"Yukari," Suri folded her arms and glared at the girl who was finally trying to stand up. "Why do you think they're pushing for us to get our licenses so fast? As first years. See, our teacher, Mr. Aizawa, said some things. He hasn't come out and said it point blank but if he's right; there's a war already knocking at our door. We have to get stronger, we have to be ready because I think something big is coming. And humans won't be the only ones to get hurt."
That statement made Yukari quickly look at Suri and really listen to what she was saying. It made sense. Sure, she had been great, she'd excelled everything that had been thrown at her and she was taking second year classes as a first year. Yukari wasn't stupid. And truthfully, she'd noticed how cautious and worried her parents had been lately. Why expose themselves if they weren't preparing for something big?
"We coexist with humans, we walk as equals to them. So if something is coming that's going to hurt them, it's going to hurt us just as much. I dunno about you, but I'm going to make fucking sure that I'm there to help them when they need me. If not," Suri shrugged and turned her back on Yukari and began to walk away. "What's the point of becoming heroes?"
"Where you going?" Yukari yelled after Suri. "Get back here so we can finish this!"
"Later," Suri chuckled and called back. "I'm going to make sure everyone from my class passes. I'm their queen after all!"
"Only 20 spots left. Get a move on so I can get some sleep."
Shit.
Suri mentally cussed herself out for being distracted by Yukari and wasting the time she had with her. She growled, upset she didn't know who of her classmates were still out there. Had anyone been eliminated? Who was left? Was she the last one still on the field? Quickly, Suri leapt upwards, scaling some of the mock buildings in the city area of the arena. Once she was on the roof, she perched herself on the edge and quickly looked towards the arena exit. She was more than relieved to see Izuku walking with Ochako and Sero and just as happy to see them meeting up with Bakugou, Kirishima, and Kaminari. She had a small smile knowing at least her boyfriend had made it. That was one step closer to his dream and she couldn't be happier for him.
She was proud of them.
Knowing at least one of their foursome had made it, Suri turned her focus back to the arena. With Atiena and her both at the front of their shared mind, Suri called upon the beast's keen sense of smell. It was just like back at the USJ, she needed to find her comrades, and with that she scented everyone remaining in the arena. It took a long bit of deciphering but she was able to begin picking out her classmates one by one. She made an outloud list of who was still out there and was both relieved and worried.
"Aoyama is the closest. Then Iida. Koda, Tokoyami, Mineta, and Ojiro are together. Shit. Mina and Tooru are still out there too," Suri growled, realizing her girlfriends were still among those that hadn't passed yet. But knowing their scents weren't too far from Aoyama and Iida did give her some comfort at least. Knowing everyone was close, she decided on picking up the stragglers.
Suri jumped from the rooftop, leaping in a long line of body and muscle, easily traversing the pit that she and Yukari had once been in. A quick glance showed no signs of the smaller hybrid. That was either a blessing or a curse. How many were in her class? Could all of 1-A pass along with Yukari's or would someone be left behind? With that thought fresh in her brain, she rushed towards the center of the landslide and mountain zone where a good majority of all the remaining contestants were. That included her lovers and friends. The scent of immense fear hit her nose like a punch to the face and it made her stumble as she ran. The stumbling ended with her having to vault over a small rock wall that she was barreling for. Better to jump over the rock structure than to slam into it face first.
As she vaulted, she caught sight of a familiar face and she pained at seeing his expression. He was curled up, a large cloud of fear and pain surrounding him, and he looked like he had all but given up mentally. When she landed, she quickly got to the ground, and crawled towards him, being cautious of the possibility that enemies were nearby. If her senses were to be believed, there were close to a hundred surrounding them. She quickly looked him over and he barely met her eyes when she came to him. It meant he was worse for wear.
"Aoyama," Suri said quietly, inspecting him to see if any of his targets had been lit, or worse, if he was physically hurting. "You all right, buddy?"
"Aoyama!" Iida shouted, apparently having just got to him too. Then his eyes quickly fell on Suri. "Ah, I see you're here as well, Kuroyashi."
"Are you two alone?" Aoyama questioned pitifully. "What a coincidence... so am I."
"I just walked away from a fight to come looking for everyone," Suri stated as she knelt next to the Frenchman and scooped her arm underneath him. It took some effort to finally sit him up.
"I'm going around supporting our fellow classmates as much as I can," Iida stated. "I managed to gather a group of us, Yaoyorozu is with them so I'm sure she'll be able to lead them to victory."
"Good. While I was scouting I saw Izuku, Ochako, and Sero meeting up with Bakugou, Kiri, and Kaminari. It looks like they passed. I didn't scent Yaomomo so I'm sure you're right about her getting that group out. I came to you Aoyama, cause you were the closest of our friends and all by yourself," Suri informed the two of them.
"Huh? So you two are running around helping everyone else?" Aoyama questioned incredulously.
"Indeed."
"Yup, that was the plan."
He laughed pitifully then, like there was a joke to be had but it wasn't funny at all.
"How strange. You don't know who is left out there. How do you know the others won't just take their wins and leave you behind?!"
His voice grew from pitiful to downright hostile by the end of his words. Suri's brow furrowed because she knew who was left out here and before she was able to say anything his true thoughts came out. The pit of her stomach twisted because, as much as she wanted to cure him of that thought, it was a very real fear to be had. She'd had a similar thought several times now and had been terrified that she'd been the one left behind.
"We found you, didn't we?" Iida said with so much care in his voice.
"Aoyama," Suri lowered herself so that the blonde could look directly into her eyes. She gave him the full weight of her words then. "Mina and Tooru are still out here. I know who's still out here out of our classmates. It would've been easy to do that, leave everyone behind and go to them, but I didn't. You know why?"
He gave her a sheepish look and Iida turned to Suri, his expression hidden behind his helmet. Suri took a guess and figured it was some sort of shock or surprise.
"Because when I scented everyone out, I could tell you were hurt and scared. I came to you because you needed someone and I needed to make sure you were okay. See, Aoyama," Suri smiled then and reached her hand out to him to help him onto his feet. "I'm Class A's president, the Queen of 1-A. It's my job to lead this little pack of ours and in a true wolf pack; no one gets left behind"
Suri took Aoyama's hand, gripped it tight and pulled him up as she stood up. The abruptness made him stumble once he got to his feet and she furrowed her brow when he clutched at his stomach. How much of his laser had he used already? She knew he'd been working his ass off for a long time now to try and up his output and how long he could use the laser without hurting himself. If he was hurting this bad, he had to overdone it already.
"And you, Iida, what is your reasoning?" Aoyama asked, not meeting either of their eyes.
"I simply wanted to buy as much time as I could for our class with these legs of mine. It's what my brother would do," he answered with his usual righteous conviction. "In that way, my actions will reflect the dream I pursue."
Aoyama nodded, still looking down. Suri kept his hand in hers and she gave a nod to Iida. They began walking and then quickened to a jog as they went to rejoin the fray and find the rest of their classmates.
"Still," Aoyama spoke as they began to pick up pace. "I'd like to earn my license on my own, and we're nearing the end of the exam."
"Then we'll take our wins while we're looking for everyone else! Right Iida," Suri grinned.
"Couldn't have said it better myself," he laughed.
The laughing stopped a second later because suddenly they were surrounded. The three of them looked up with shock and horror to find almost three dozen contestants surrounding them and then came the flurry of Quirks and balls being launched at them. During the chaos Suri watched as one of the balls was making its way at Aoyama quickly and he didn't have time to react. A flash of speed put her in Aoyama's place as she pushed him out of the way and took the hit of not only someone's Quirk, unsure of what hit her, and a ball. Between getting her shoulder rocked hard with a blow and having the target on her back being lit up, Suri began cursing. Cursing as she snarled and quite literally punched several balls that were coming at her and sent them flying the opposite direction.
While Suri was fighting off the balls and Quirks coming for them she didn't notice Aoyama at her back. Her eyes went wide in the next moment because he laid himself back and what came next was a massive beam of light shooting into the sky. He was pouring everything he had into one giant, steady laser beam.
"What are you doing?!" Iida screamed.
"Standing out," the blonde stated simply with a small smile.
"Yeah, no shit," Suri snapped. "That's not a good idea, dude!"
"Try to save me and you'll go down too. Two of my targets are already lit, no? One more and I'm out, so this is my gift to you. You will sneak behind those who come to claim me and take your prize. With the speed both of you possess," he smiled weakly, his body shaking from the pain he was enduring. "That should be well within your powers, yes?"
"What are you saying?!" Both Suri and Iida screeched.
"Exactly what you're hearing," Aoyama answered. "I've just always... wanted to feel equal."
"Aoyama," Suri muttered softly. She then turned her eyes forward towards the mass of enemies coming their way. She took a deep breath, clearing her head and trying to calm herself as much as possible. Once the shock, and anxiety had receded a little it was replaced by a fire of will and determination, glaring hard at the other contestants in front of them. "All right, let's go, Atiena."
The beast within her moved upwards inside their shared mind, completely encasing Suri's form in a pair of strong arms while the human girl rested her head against the creature's furred chest. The mental motion gave way to their energy, letting that wildfire pour from Suri's core outward, prickling its way across her skin. With her body dancing from the power, she reached behind her and pulled a pair of slim, metallic rods from their shoulder holsters. She let her hands adjust to the weight and rolled them, letting the black aluminum shafts twirl in the air in front of her. She'd practiced with the escrima sticks during the week but wasn't as skilled as she desired for full combat using both of them at the same time. Instead, she let her power pour into them and the clear crystals near the base of the handles on both of them burst into a fiery golden green glow. Once the crystals had come to life, they sent arcs of hot electricity along the dual staffs, electricity that arced when she put the bases of her escrimas together and twisted, locking them in place to create an electrified bo staff.
She held the staff across her body and then let herself move, twirling and spinning it around her body in a magnificent and elegant display. She grinned wide as she moved, letting sparks and jolts of hot, chartreuse lightning pop around her. She carefully looked back to her classmate and gave him the confident smile he deserved.
"If you're going to go out sparkling, then we might as well shine together," Suri grinned. "Let's show them what we're all made of."
The rolling energy built more and more in those few seconds of her dance-like movements and then Suri focused all of her power and energy into the staff itself.
"Queen's Gambit!"
She brought the bo staff down hard and with it came an eruption of power and energy. Energy that not only rocked the ground with a quaking pulse but sent a shockwave of electric wind that whipped and pounded at their enemies around them. In that flash of energy, Atiena appeared like a neon line drawing, a ghost of the monster that lived within Suri and it instilled fear in everyone looking her way. With that, a tidal wave of heat poured over everyone within a ten meter radius, pummeling and nearly suffocating her opponents but giving the opposite effect to her friends. That energy poured outward from Suri and into them, boosting their own power and stamina. It made Aoyama's laser even brighter, made Iida faster, brought even more birds with Koda's call, made Dark Shadow more ferocious…
Koda? Tokoyami?
"Black Abyss! Covert Black-Ops Arms!"
"What the hell? I can't move!"
Suri looked up past her staff and watched the scene unfold with sheer happiness and pride. What was meant to be the threesome's last stand became a regrouping of epic proportions. Suri watched with glee as their opponents were trapped on Mineta's sticky ball traps, pummeled relentlessly by Ojiro's tail, blinded by Tooru's Warp Refraction, and any oncoming attacks being melted by Mina's Acid Veil. She heard the announcement one after the other, counting down as each of her classmates took their spots in the next round. She was filled with pride as Koda, Mina, Tooru, Ojiro, Mineta, and Tokoyami took their wins. With glee she watched Iida and Aoyama take their wins and then it was finally her turn, tapping one of her balls against the targets on two examinees that had fallen victim to their rally. And with that, all of Class 1-A, her pack, her little misfit family made it to the next round of the Provisional Exams.
It was just as Suri had told their resident sparkling classmate; no one got left behind.
