A/N: …Hi? Here's a new chapter… I'm very sorry for the long wait. Real life is getting very busy, but I've switched my schedule around a bit, and hopefully I'll have more time to write now. Thank you all very much for your continued support, and I promise you, I'll keep writing this story!
Disclaimer: I don't own Pokémon or the picture used as cover (though I did edit it).
Days
The day things fall apart
Drew
Sunday, December 8th
Fury clawed at his throat as he roughly pulled the suitcase out from under the bed. Drew bit on the inside of his cheek to keep himself from screaming out loud.
Arceus damn it all!
Instead he let out a loud, frustrated snarl, too angry to even form proper words.
A whimper came from the living room, but he ignored it.
Wildly, he tore open the drawer and threw his clothes into the trunk. A shirt fell next to it and he cursed, barely stopping himself from kicking the damn thing. Fuck!
He dropped down on his knees to grab the shirt and forcefully stuffed it in the case.
Stupid fucking suitcase!
Mew, the last time he had used that suitcase was when he freaking moved in here, and for fuck's sake, he even remembered thinking that it would be some time before he would need it again, fucking hell, he was such a fucking idiot-
He gritted his teeth and emptied the rest of the drawer. He didn't want to think, he didn't want to-
He quickly moved into the bathroom, dragging his suitcase along with him. The majority of the contents of the bathroom consisted of May's colorful products, and Drew squeezed his eyes shut momentarily.
Swiftly and without much looking, he emptied his part of the bathroom cabinet, barely noticing and not caring when some of May's stuff fell.
Arceus fucking damn it, how could she do this to him, to them?!
He rushed into the living room, dropping the suitcase on the floor unceremoniously. May still stood where he had left her, in the middle of the living room, hugging herself and sniffling. It seemed only so short ago that he had found her in the same position, in the middle of the night, and Mew dammit-
He had thought they had gotten it right! He had thought they were good, that they had dealt with this problem, that they had solved this…
For a moment his movements slowed in his frenzy to gather his possessions, but then he shook his head wildly. May had made her decision. She had made her decision, a different decision, not what they had agreed on- She had lied to him, she had broken her promise, she had betrayed them, him, it was her fault-
He grabbed his laptop from the table, and May let out a loud sob when he tore several of the pictures from the walls. Some other pictures fell, glass breaking on the ground, and May's crying only seemed to get louder.
His collection of Ribbons and other trophies joined the pictures and clothes already in his chaotic suitcase. Several items spilled out of the trunk, and in a fit of fury and frustration he kicked against the thing.
Drew breathed heavily, staring at the remains of his life, all packed together in an abused suitcase. His legs trembled.
How could she?
He sank onto his knees, feeling the energy leaving him. How could she? There was a sharp burning in his eyes and an emptiness in his chest that seemed to resound painfully with each heartbeat. She wouldn't- No, she would, she would break her promise, she had already done so- She had made her decision and he had tried, he had really tried to convince her otherwise, but...
A sharp sob made its way out of his chest and it hurt, and Drew inhaled shakily. No, he would not do this. He would not. This was her fault. She had made her decision. She had done this to him, she had done this to them...
"D- Drew," May spoke through her sobbing, and another painful thud sounded through his chest.
Drew pushed himself up from the ground and stiffly turned around to face her. She looked as horrible as he felt, and it felt as if his breath was knocked out of him. No, he would not do this, he would not-
She- she had done this to them, not he, she- it was her fault!
He pushed his shoulders back and sucked in a cold breath.
"I'm leaving," Drew said, his voice steady and low. He took another breath, forcing the emptiness in his chest away. "You- you have made your decision-"
"No, no, Drew, please..." May interrupted and stumbled towards him. She tried to grab him, but he moved away and glared at her, and she recoiled.
"You have made your decision and I have made mine," he bit out. How dare she act sad, how dare she act like she was feeling regret about this situation, this was her fault, her fault, her fault- The words echoed through his chest, bluntly pounding in sync with his heartbeat.
"Please..." May whimpered, but Drew shook his head. "Please..."
He wasn't sure if he had ever seen her crying like this before. He didn't want to think about it. He needed to get away, he needed to get away from here- It was her fault, May's fault...
Resolutely, he turned away from her pleading eyes and heartbroken expression, and strode into the small room that they used for storage. Several boxes filled with unused stuff stood there, containing small pieces of furniture, decoration and trophies, still unpacked- and with renewed fury he thought that now he would never have to.
On more close examining, he realized it was only one box which contained his things and that the rest belonged to May. There was a sharp pang of pain in his chest, but he had always known that this was more May's house than his, more May's home than his, always more of May, it had been her idea, her choice, and now again, she was the one-
He lifted the box, which was heavier than he had expected, and he remembered that it mostly contained books. Drew let out a silent curse. There was no way he would be able to carry his suitcase and this box at once.
"Drew… Please, don't-" May had followed him to the small room, uncertainly standing in the door opening, wringing her hands.
Screw it all. He would carry the box and the suitcase both, he was not going to leave anything here. He was not going to come back. Drew breathed through his nose to stop the burning behind his eyes.
May immediately moved out of the way when he walked past, and the box suddenly seemed heavier. Drew tightened his grip until it was almost painful.
He placed it in the living room next to his suitcase, and he slowly reached out to close the lid. May was watching him, eyes red and puffy, her arms wrapped around herself. His throat felt tight. Was he really leaving?
"I- I don't want, I don't want to be- I-" he swallowed the rest of his words and finally spoke clearly. "I don't want this. Why don't you see that, May?" His voice trembled only a bit, and his heart pounded loudly in his chest when he looked up to see her reaction. Please, anything, just not-
Tears were streaming down her face, but she shook her head.
It felt as if his chest caved in on itself. He could only stare at May, who took a step closer to him.
"Drew, please, can- can't we-"
"No." His voice sounded hollow. He threw the lid of the suitcase closed and May let out another sob.
"Drew, please... P-please..."
He lifted the box up and held it with one hand pressed to his body, and then grabbed his suitcase. He was trembling, but he blamed it on having to carry the heavy box.
"Please, please, Drew…" She stepped closer to him, but he stepped away, almost tripping over his own feet.
"No," he said hoarsely. He looked into her wide, teary eyes for the last time. "It's… It's over." He felt the emptiness in his chest reverberating with those words.
"Drew!"
In a last attempt May grabbed his arm, and he froze momentarily. Then, he slightly moved his arm, and May's hands fell away.
One last time, truly, he looked her in the eye. The emptiness in his chest squeezed painfully, and his voice was hard when he spoke. "It's over. Goodbye, May."
Then, he turned and walked out of the door. It closed without a sound, but a moment later he could hear May's sobs through the door. They echoed strangely in his own hollow chest.
He walked on.
A/N: …I'm so sorry. After such a long wait, and then such a chapter. *ducks to avoid the rotten tomatoes* It was difficult to write for me, too. Not just the break-up itself, but all those emotions… But on the bright side, things can only get better from here on, right? :P Anyway, thank you very much for reading, I'll do my best to get the next chapter out as soon as possible, and please let me know what you thought about it!
Thank you!
