Chapter four:

Mello turns back to the window only to not be able to see BB anymore. He goes to his bedroom door and he opens it peering down the hallway. He sneaks out not seeing anyone and as he gets closer to BB's room he sees Roger reaching for the door. He isn't fast enough to stop it as Roger opens the door. He pauses as he sees Roger pause.

"He's in bed?" Roger heads on inside of the room clearly to check that it really is BB. He comes back out quietly shutting the door behind himself so Mello quietly though quickly heads back to his room.

Mello lets out a soft sound glad that everything is okay. He heads to his own bed figuring that he should try to sleep now. He isn't sure if he will be able to sleep though he probably should try at least. He lays in bed for a good long while then eventually his exhaustion catches up with him allowing him to finally fall asleep. He awakens to the sun coming into his room. He checks the time and sits up finding that it is late in the morning. He has five minutes before class begins! He throws the covers off hurrying to get ready then he rushes to class. He gets there just in time as the teacher is about to start the class. He gets a few looks as he gets to his seat before attention is brought back to the teacher who demands their attention for class. He didn't grab his notebook as he didn't have time so he will just have to rely on his brilliant mind to keep the notes stored in there. He does know that he can do it just fine though he does like written notes to reflect on when he studies. He just mentally shrugs it off for now as he doesn't have much of a choice. He tries to pay attention to what the teacher is talking about. He however finds his mind wandering to what had happened last night. His eyes wander a little until they come upon Near. He doesn't see Matt meaning that the other likely is still asleep. He can guess that it is because of gaming the night away… His mind flashes to Matt talking to Near and suddenly he wonders if it is because Matt is somehow not human. He looks away to the board as the teacher teaches on.

Is Matt truly all who he seems to be? Is he a vampire? Or perhaps something else entirely?

Mello isn't sure and he jumps when the bell rings. He gets up and heads out of the room though instead of heading to his next class he heads to go find Matt. He gets to the other's room and opens the door getting a gut feeling to not knock. He steps inside about to say Matt's name when something stops him.

Matt is asleep on his bed overtop the messy covers. He has wolf ears poking out of his hair and a wolf tail attached to his tailbone with the tail lightly wagging in his sleep; both of which are the same color as his hair.

Mello comes to realize that Matt isn't a vampire at all but instead he is actually a werewolf! He takes a step back only for one of Matt's ears to flicker up as if having heard him. He knows that Matt can sleep through a tornado ripping through the orphanage until he is at the point that he is starting to awaken.

Then as Matt's body starts the process of starting to leave dreamland he becomes even more alert to everything around him even if he isn't actually awake yet. He sleepily raises his head as if his body sped up the process of waking up at hearing Mello. He turns and blinks his still half asleep eyes at Mello who opens his mouth to say something though nothing will come out. He blinks a few more times until he is finally more awake. "Mello? What is that surprised look for?" He turns as if he feels his tail shift against his legs. He gasps and sits up hurriedly as he realizes what it is. He uses his hands to smooth his ears downwards and his wolf parts fade away. He lets out a breath lowering his hands to his sides. "Haha. Do you like my illusion technology? I invented it to try to trick people into thinking a werewolf is out there. Wanna join me in doing that prank?" He scrambles to try to explain away what Mello had just seen.

Mello would have been more inclined to believe what the red head is saying if he hadn't become known to Near being a vampire. He swallows a little before he is finally able to find his words. "It isn't an illusion is it?" He questions Matt who blinks at him clearly worried about having been found out. "You don't have to hide it." He sighs then sits down on the floor not really looking at his best friend. "Last night was a bit of a surprise for me." He suddenly wonders if he doesn't need Near as he has Matt to be able to study about creatures thought to be myth… However he finds doubt that Matt would know much about vampires so he supposes that he still needs Near to get correct information. "I happened to witness Near chasing a vampire away from the orphanage. Near caught me and tried to basically get me to not poke around into it anymore."

"But you still want to know more." Matt pointing this out causes Mello to look to him not actually surprised that his best friend knows him that well to be able to tell. He lets out a breath glancing away himself this time. "Alright then." His agreeing to letting Mello into this secret world surprises the blonde as he had expected the red head to try to tell him that he shouldn't. "Meet me here in my room after classes are done for the day. Just trust me that I will help you be able to learn more. Just know that this is a lot more dangerous than you may think. I will leave the choice up to you if you decide to come or not. If you don't come then it can be like none of this happened. If you do come then remember that you are signing up to become possibly in danger of the hidden world. Humans who have tried to dabble in this before ended up dying. Humans aren't actually equipped to deal with the threat that this hidden world holds. I care about you so I want to make sure that I give you a good warning before we go further into this." He gets up off of the bed. "Now come on. Lets get to class before Roger is sent looking for us."

"Right." Mello has already decided that the risk is worth it to learn more about a world that he didn't know existed before. He follows Matt as the two of them head to class together and get inside heading to their desks with all eyes on them.

"Ah, thank you for waking Matt up Mello. I was informed that Matt seemed to have slept in today." The teacher thanks Mello as the two best friends take their seats. "Now then. Back to our lesson." He calls for the class's attention and Mello tries to look like he is indeed paying attention.

However Mello's mind is a million miles away as his mind wonders what he is going to end up learning about this hidden world.

Later Matt, Near, A and BB are no where to be found as lunch time comes around.

Mello realizes that Matt must be having a secret meeting with them to convince them to let him learn more about their hidden world. His heart beats a little faster as he becomes a little more excited than before for what is going to come later today.
