Daily Lives of the Clones, Chapter 1
Thorn.
Walking down one of the hallways, CT-6719, also known by the nickname 'Thorn' by his brothers, looked around for the classroom of class 1-B while also checking the clock; 7:50 AM, ten minutes before classes started.
Walking past a few of his brothers and greeting them as he went on his way, he finally found the classroom he was looking for and entered it, noticing only about three students had shown up so far.
'Not a lot of morning people here.' he thought to himself as he walked up to the teacher's desk and stood beside it at attention, gazing at the trio currently in the room.
The first one was Itsuka Kendo, the class representative and considered its older sister. A good girl who always showed up before time and had been the one to try and calm things down when some idiot from the class had purposefully agitated his big brother shortly after losing Jango.
The second one was a boy towering over him wearing specs just like Vod Iida did, but he was covered in fur, making him look a bit like a half transformed werewolf. This was Jurota Shishida, a friendly and extremely respectful young boy once you got past his beastly appearance.
The third and currently last one, was a girl with hair just like vines who was currently sitting with her hands clasped together in prayer; Ibara Shiozaki, a member of the Catholic church and the only one he had ever met, considering Shintoism tended to be the more widespread religion in Japan. A sweet and kind enough girl, but most of the Vod'e had a somewhat rocky opinion of her at best, due to her having somewhat scoffed at them a few times for apparently being against the 'Lord's will' and 'contrary to the moral law' or whatever it was she had spouted. Religion wasn't anything he was interested in anyways.
Just as he was about to let out a sigh, Kendo walked up to him, looking somewhat nervous.
"Can I…help you, Kendo-san?" He hesitantly asked as he noticed the redhead begin to play with her fingers.
"I uh, I just wanted to apologize for what Monoma said yesterday…I try to keep him in line but it's not the easiest job."
Thorn blinked in surprise before giving her a gentle smile and nod.
"Thank you. We appreciate it…truth be told not a lot of people would approach us clones, let alone apologize…that makes you alright in my book."
He then stuck out his hand for her to shake.
"My name is Thorn."
"Kendo, Itsuka," She replied while shaking his hand. "Although it appears that you already knew that."
"Indeed, it's just part of our job. We're hoping to develop a positive relationship with U.A.'s students."
"Well…looks like it's had a bit of a rocky start, huh?"
"True," Thorn shrugged, idly noticing more students walking in. "But with more people like you, it might just make things a bit easier."
"Thanks for the kind words, but…may I ask why you're called 'Thorn'?" she asked him.
Just as he was about to answer her question, a familiar voice rang through the room.
"Kendo! Why are you speaking with that clone who has been spying on us since yesterday and been a thorn in our side ever since?!" Monoma demanded as he marched up to the two.
"Speak of the devil… You just heard the reason." Thorn chuckled, making the blond look confused and caused the redhead to glare at her classmate.
"What?"
"Monoma, you're already in enough trouble as it is with Vlad-sensei, sit down before I chop you!" She ordered, emphasizing her point with a hand chop that made him flinch.
"Thorn, I am so sorry about him…wouldn't you want to be called something else rather than what he used to insult you with though?" She asked in an apologetic tone while Thorn glanced over at Monoma who just huffed, refusing to even look at him.
Thorn raised his brow slightly before turning back to Kendo.
"Nah, I've grown to like it, so do my brothers. Plus it pisses him off, so…"
Kendo let out a small giggle as she heard the reasoning before startling as the bell rang.
"You best get to your seat, Kendo-san, before Vlad-sensei arrives." He said, giving her a small smile which she returned.
Vlad King walked in just as Kendo started to make her way to her seat. Raising his own brow at the pair but seeing their relaxed poses, he sighed in relief.
"Well, glad to see that at least some of you are making friends," He said in a gruff tone as he sat down in his chair while the last of class 1-B settled down and Thorn went back to standing at attention.
"Due to the incident yesterday caused by a certain someone after a traumatizing event," The gray-haired pro said, shooting Monoma and the sharp toothed boy that Thorn also recognized from yesterday a disappointed look, "Joint classes today will have to be pushed to another date."
A few of the class groaned, some grumbling and making a few underhanded comments but Vlad King was quick to get things back on track.
"I do however want you to properly meet and be introduced to CT-6719 who will be joining me as a supplementary teacher," He said and gestured to Thorn who stepped forwards with a short salute, followed by a bow.
"Pleased to meet you all, but I would rather be addressed by my chosen name, Thorn. If you haven't noticed, we of the Vod'e have been spread out throughout U.A. This is all to establish a better relationship with students and faculty. Our goal is to help you since, as you grow, so do we." He said, causing a few of the students to murmur amongst themselves, however the ones he noticed the most were Monoma, Tin Can and Shiozaki with the two former scowling slightly at him and the latter giving him a look he couldn't describe how to feel about.
"Any questions about or to him?" Vlad asked the class, with a few students raising their hands.
"Yes, Komori?" the older man said, as a short brunette girl with a mushroom haircut that covered her eyes lowered her arm.
"Is it true that you're all different in some way, Shroom? Aren't there a few of you who somewhat… act the same? Siblings do tend to act alike, Shroom," She inquired in a quiet and shy tone, however genuine curiosity filled her voice.
"Great question, while we all come from the same template, that is, our brother. We can all be unique in many ways. Some are quieter, others more rambunctious, we've got pranksters, by-the-book, all that and more. But it doesn't change the fact that we're all brothers. All Vod'e." He explained, smiling at the different expressions he saw from the class; amazement, confusion, excitement and… what was that glint in some of their eyes?
Vlad King looked around and picked another girl, this one with seaweed green hair.
"Tokage." He nodded, causing her to stand up from her seat.
"Can you explain that cool armor? Mama wants a set!" She grinned, flashing a smile that showed off her sharp teeth, with a few of the boys nodding in excitement.
"The armor we wear are made to protect us from shrapnel, explosions, blunt weapons, explosions, along with helping us carry our ammunition and medical gear. Did I mention to protect against explosions? Anyhow, it can currently only be worn by us, as it is form fitted to fit us as perfectly and comfortably as possible, so if anyone of you tried to put it on, it would feel extremely uncomfortable if you don't have the right body shape." he answered, making a few of them pout and sigh in disappointment.
"Although, you may be able to fit in it, if you lose eight centimeters, Tin Can." he said, turning his gaze towards the sharp toothed boy with metal-gray hair who looked at him in shock.
"T-Tin Can?!" Tetsutetsu exclaimed in affronted shock while a few in the class snorted.
"Well you got folded by vod pretty easily, ergo Tin Can."
Tokage cackled.
"Thorn, play nice," Vlad King admonished.
"Yes, sir."
"Any more questions? Ah. Monoma, what is it?" the teacher asked as he saw the last hand in the room being said blonde.
"Vlad-Sensei, I really don't see any reason to let a spy into our midst! Who's to say that he doesn't feed everything we do directly to that glory hogging punk, huh?!" He sneered, pointing an accusing finger at Thorn whose eye visibly twitched at the accusation, but managed to keep his temperament under control.
"Monoma that is entirely unwarranted-"
"No, no…it's fine sir," Thorn interrupted. "It's a valid question…counterargument though, my brother sent you flying down a hall and spiked your buddy while only using 5% of his power. How do you think you'll handle 100?" he asked back in a calm tone, although his eyes and ears waited for any excuse he could get to go out of the classroom, dragging the obnoxious blonde with him for a duel if he had to.
"5%?"
"Let me give you a bit of info, if anything you'll appreciate it since it's about vod's quirk. He can only summon a clone at a time at the normal, the obvious exception being the USJ where he went full power and summoned over two thousand of us, with more still inside the mindscape, that's where we come from by the way, and his total strength is proportional to how many are inside," Thorn said, continuing the lie to cover up OFA.
He then approached Monoma's desk who was now gulping in apprehension.
"Now let me ask you this…do you really think he needs me to spy on you?" he asked while leaning forward and put his hands on the desk of the boy, the two having an optical standoff, before Monoma huffed once again.
"Alright, that's enough for the questions. Let's start class… Please find your books and go to page ten…" Vlad said as the class officially began, with Thorn going back to stand next to him.
"Dude… He's been standing like that for the entire period… Is he sleeping?" Juzo whispered to Bondo next to him, the tall, glue dispenser headed boy just shrugging as he leaned down.
"I don't think so, Honenuki-san… I think he's watching us right now…" he whispered back while swallowing the lump in his throat.
"He's just standing there…menacingly…" Manga formed the words on his head in small text.
"Class dismissed!" Vlad said, with the class starting to pack their books together and take a short break before the next period.
"Man, I'm starving… Setsuna groaned, despite having eaten a pretty sizable breakfast this morning.
"How high is your metabolism even, Tokage-san?" Tetsutetsu asked, before noticing Thorn chewing on some sort of round bar.
Before he could walk up to ask, the greenette had already popped her head off and floated it over to the clone who didn't seem startled in the least over the fact that a girl's head just came off.
"Ooh, what's that?"
"High calorie chocolate…it's something that Nezu cooked up for us. For some reason, us clones have higher metabolisms than normal people, so we like to carry these."
"They look like ration bars…" Setsuna said as she peered over his shoulder. "Do they taste any good?"
"They're actually not that bad, tastes like a regular Hershey's bar, just has more calories to support us."
"Really? How high is your BMR?"
"Eh, about an average of 8000 Kilojoules."
"Ooh, that's cool, I'm actually in the higher range for women as well, although it's been a while since I've checked."
Thorn raised his brow as he looked closer at where her head broke off.
"It's your quirk, huh? The act of separating and reattaching your limbs must put a large strain on your metabolism."
Tokage grimaced.
"Yeah, I have to eat a lot to keep it up."
"Have you put in a request for high calorie snacks to be added to your costume?"
Tokage blinked.
"Wait, you can do that?"
Thorn sighed…as protocol he and practically all of the Vod'e had read the syllabus packets as well as supplementary information for the hero course.
It was obvious that some of the actual students didn't.
Sighing again as he reached for a pocket, he grabbed another bar and passed it to Tokage who gasped in surprise before smiling and floating over her hands to eat the candy bar.
"Hmm…it's pretty good! Thanks!"
"Of course. I'll help you fill out the necessary form as well." he said with a smile, something she did in kind.
"Thanks, Thorn-san!" she said with a grin as her head and hands floated back to her body and reattached themselves as she kept munching on the bar.
Finishing off his own, he noticed Itsuka walking up to him, another smile on her face.
"Would you like to join me for lunch today, Thorn?" She asked him politely, taking him by surprise as he hadn't expected any of them to actually want to sit with him for lunch, despite being on somewhat friendly terms with a bunch of them.
"Sure, that would be some lovely company," He smiled, while Monoma made some sort of noise he couldn't identify and Setsuna made a wolf whistle motion with her mouth.
"Do I sense a date coming up? At the beginning of the semester even? Ohlala!" Setsuna cackled while Itsuka sighed.
"It's just lunch, Tokage-san, and besides, I just want to learn more about him and his brothers. They're still human, afterall," She said, to which Thorn couldn't help but appreciate.
Walking back to her seat, she sat down, until her phone buzzed and she noticed a message from Monoma, telling her to use her unrivaled charms to wring as much useful info out of him so they could use it against their rival class, causing her to send another glare his direction.
'I swear, if he keeps this up, I'm going to let our sister class tear into him the next time he steps out of line…' she thought, as she put her phone into her pocket while the rest of the class returned, along with Present Mic to start English class.
Walking out of the classroom after Ectoplasm had left, Thorn stretched out slightly. Yes, he was a trained soldier, but standing at attention for hours could still get uncomfortable. Fortunately, Ectoplasm had provided plenty of work to go through and he'd been able to observe more of the class' interactions.
"Hey, Thorn! Wanna walk together? You know, talk a bit about ourselves?" Itsuka asked as she walked up to him.
"I'd love to, Kendo."
Making their way to the cafeteria, Itsuka looked at the clone. He certainly looked like Midoriya, but he had this calm demeanor, like a security guard while also being friendly and instructive like a good teacher would. In other words, he made her feel safer.
"So um… What did you usually do? You know, before coming to the real world?"
"Well, I got up in the morning, ate a meal with my brothers, trained, observed Izuku, trained some more and spent time with my brothers and enjoyed another meal and then went to sleep again. Rinse and repeat," He answered, before he looked at her. "What about you, though? Why do you want to become a hero?"
"I guess…it's something that I felt I needed to do. I'm a big fan of martial arts, I practice some styles…but I felt that there was something missing. Then I saw how heroes dedicate so much, helping people, fighting villains…I thought it'd be good to do the same."
"That's pretty cool. Both of our oldest Vods wanted to become heroes, due to All Might's influence…now I imagine that things have changed a bit for Izuku after…" he trailed off, obviously feeling uncomfortable about the subject.
"Sorry, I didn't want to bring up bad memories…"
"It's not your fault, it's just…still fresh you know?"
"I can't even imagine what you must go through right now… I've never felt the grief of loss, and especially not of a close family member…if I tried to say I could relate to losing more than one thousand siblings whom I had known since birth, I would only be insulting you and their memory," She replied honestly to Thorn, who looked at her with surprised eyes. Honesty like that was rare these days, with one of the only people who knew being capable of displaying that much being Izuku.
"I like your honesty, Kendo-san. It is an admirable trait, and one that is sadly rare these days."
"I… I'm just glad you understand what I meant and didn't take any offense," She said, giving him yet another small smile as they entered the cafeteria, where she noticed several clones walking around with trays and sitting at tables with their brothers and members of 1-A, but other than them, it seemed like only a handful of the other students mingled with them.
"Whoa… I knew that there were a lot of your brothers but… I-I'm at a loss for words… How do you know who's who?"
"Easy, the one with Izuku is Fordo, the one who's currently laughing at Mineta slipping and spilling his lunch over himself? Mayhem. And those two over there? Waxer and Boil," He answered, with Itsuka having a confused look on her face.
'They all have the same armor…' She thought, looking at the nearly white armor, stained by dust, marks of all kinds, scratches, cracks and dirt.
"Why do they have names like that?" She asked, genuine curiosity filled her tone.
"Well… You see…" Thorn replied, as he started to tell the story of how his different brothers picked their names.
They spent the rest of the lunch hour talking about other topics while enjoying their meals.
