AN: I don't own My hero academia
Take responsibility.
Enji Todoroki. Endeavour. The flame hero. The number 2 hero of all Japan. Currently, he holds the record of most crime cases solved. A hero among heroes besides All Might but we do not talk about him in this household. To the eyes of the public Endeavour had a near perfect life. A well-paid job that came with a well-furnished home. A beautiful wife and children of his own. He even had a new-born on the way. Yes, truly the perfect life…to an outsider. Look through a magnifying glass and you start to see cracks in this so-called perfect picture.
First, let us look at the wife. Rei Todoroki. Beautiful. Pristine. Has a high-class lineage and an amazing quirk that complemented the flaming hero. A match made in heaven. In reality, it was a match made through a paper agreement. A careful selection. Endeavour has always chased after the back of the number 1 Hero All Might all his life. It became painfully clear that he could never reach that peak. Rise above that mountain of a man. So, he thought if he couldn't. His legacy kin will. This required a wife with a desirable quirk. Of course, he didn't force the marriage. At the beginning he gave the woman the choice to decline his proposal when they first saw each other. In hindsight it would have been near impossible for her to completely deny a man of his status. So, they were married and after some time they got to work. 3 children later only one of them had potential.
Touya Todoroki. The eldest son. The boy had a powerful fire quirk. Stronger than Endeavour's. Only trouble was his body currently doesn't hold the constitution to control it. A weakness from his mother unfortunately, but nothing training couldn't fix. Boy did Endeavour trained this boy hard. Since the day his quirk revealed itself it was nonstop training. All in hopes to strengthen his body to deal with his flames. Sometimes the child will find himself with burns, but they don't last. Still the fact that he required constant treatment was concerning. Especially for his mother. Rei tried to convince her husband so many times to go easy on her child. Their child. Let him grow. At least play with his other siblings once and awhile. But the hero did not move. He was determined to make this boy greater than him. Greater than All Might. He would do whatever it took.
Small arguments grew into screaming matches. The marriage only tied through papers quickly teared through hopes of working peacefully. Sometimes things would get physical. A slap to the face on both ends. A weak punched to the chest. A rough pull of the hair. Endeavour was controlling. Intimidating. Obsessively driven. Rei's patience and mentality was burned away by his heated desire. To do that impossible and surpass All Might. Add that to the lack of genuine love he had for her. It was maddening. Honestly, she should have known better. What with the fact he only married her for her quirk and status. She did the same thing. He was a wealthy and powerful man that could take care of her. At the time it didn't seems so bad. Now several years into it. Years that she will never get back. Her mental state worn so much that she did something crazy.
She swapped her biological fourth child for another random child. Why? 1. To spite her husband. 2. Because she had a feeling that the child, she birth was the one her husband was waiting for. Their perfect twin-coloured eyes and hair were big tells. Also, the fact the one side of them felt far hotter than the other side which was chilled like her natural temperature. 3. To spite her husband.
The swap was not realised until later when the unlikely Todoroki happened to grow green hair. Now, the hero wasn't an expert on genetics but he's pretty sure whatever child they produce shouldn't have green hair. Unless his parents or in laws have been faking their hair colour all this time this should be impossible. Soon Rei gave up the rues and laughed at her husband's face. She said that he deserved it. For everything he put this family through he should never get the child he wanted.
One problem that she didn't consider. Now they are stuck with a random child. That does not belong to them. Who knows were their biological child was? Rei made sure to destroy the documents concerning them. She had enough influence as her husband to pull off such as scheme. In short, she pretty much kidnapped a kid with no further thought to do anything more. Now the poor baby was more or less permanently in their possession. If word gets out about this their family reputation would be ruined. That last part may or may not be an unintentional part of Rei's grand plan to get back at her husband.
That foolish woman. Endeavour growled in his head. After all that transpired to get to this point the hero was more than a little mad. He spared his mistake of a wife any massive punishment, but he did shake her a bit and called her crazy. Her response was a derange laugh back. It was irritating.
Suddenly, he heard crying: "Wahhhh!"
The cries echoed down a darken hallway. There was only one door down there. The baby door. Curious irritation got the better of him and he walked towards it. Quietly, he entered the room allowing the door to creak open. The cries grew louder. The room was bare. The cream walls had nothing on them. Not even pictures. Only a single large window to the outside world. No toys littered the floor. Nothing. Just a single white crib. He walked towards the crib and leaned down into it. "What's wrong with you?"
The crying baby in the crib wasn't even swaddled properly. Their tiny arms franticly swung around hitting the edges of its confinement. A single green curl adored their fuzzy green head. Tears ran down them until the baby saw the man above him. His little arms tried to reach him.
Endeavour raised an eyebrow. "What? What do you want?"
The baby gurgled in its baby language and continued to reach up to the man. "Gah!"
Eventually, the hero took the hint and regrettably picked the child up. With a stern frown on his face, he raised the baby up until his arms were straight. "You know, I don't have any food for you."
"Mah!" the baby didn't seem to mind. He just kept reaching out to the hero.
Soon, Endeavour brought the small baby into his muscular arms. He looks so tiny between them. His muscles were almost twice as big. It was odd to see something so small in them. "Is this what you want, child?"
The baby laughed as if to say yes. They happily reached out to the hero's face and brushed their tiny soft hands against the bristles of his beard.
Endeavour hummed. The sight of the child laughing in his arms was curious to him. With one finger he played with the baby's single curl making him laugh even more. His sour frown creaked to a softer tone. "Well, aren't you an excitable one?" he watched the baby laugh and laugh. They even caught his hand that played with their hair. Then the baby tried to chew on it. The hero allowed it. Not like something so small and weak could hurt him physically. They didn't even have teeth yet. He then frowned at the thought of the child's real family. He wondered if they figured out the child, they had was not their own. Do they have similar problems to him? Suppose it does not matter much. This child was now his responsibility. "Listen. I do not know who your real parents are. Nor do I know if I can return you to them. I apologies on behalf of my wife for putting you in to such a situation. I hope would not harbour any ill will in the future. I swear as the number 2 hero you will want for nothing. You will be fed and clothed as what is required of me."
"Bah ah." The baby didn't seem to be interested in what the hero was saying. Too busy teething on the side of the hero's hand.
It made him a little worried. "You do realise I'm not food, right?"
The baby did not or did. Hard to tell. He just kept giggling and chewing at the hand in front of him.
"…has Rei or anyone not fed you?" he asked the baby concerned. As head of this household, he rather not add 'starved a baby to death' to the list of things he didn't want anyone to know. Kidnapping a child is bad enough. Having that same child die under his watch was unacceptable.
"Father?" The hero turned to see one of his children at the doorway. Young Touya Todoroki. His skin was pale and almost snow white like his mother. His spikey red hair lit aflame with red like his father. He even had the same turquoise blue eyes. The boy looked at his father questionably. "You were late for my usual training. So, I was wondering where you were. What are you doing?"
Glancing at the baby teething on his hand, Endeavour sighed. "Nothing of concern. Just checking up on the little one here. He was crying. So, I went in to investigate."
Curiously, the young child stepped closer. He tip-toed higher just to get a better look at the tiny green thing. "Can I hold him?" The hero saw no harm in the request and carefully handed his son the baby. He told him to be careful and to make sure his hold was firm. He didn't want his son to drop them. The baby squirmed a little in his son's arm till he felt comfortable. Then they slapped his son on the cheek. Not like the slap held any power. It felt like a touch more than anything. Which was kind of what it was. The baby was investigating this new thing he saw by just slapping it a bunch. Feeling the other child out. Touya laughed at the feeling. "Hey that tickles." The boy then got his revenge and tickled the baby's tummy making them laugh hysterically. "Does he have a name?"
Ah that was one thing and only thing they have of his original parentage. The original plan for their real baby was to name him Shoto. This one also had a planned name to from what documents he was able to salvage. "His name is Izuku." Last name unknown. He supposed his wife felt guilty of taking him so at the very least wanted to give him the name he was intended to have. He would admit the woman covered her tracks well. It would be impressive. If it wasn't for the situation they were in.
Touya nodded and said hello to the little Izuku with a high-pitched tone. The baby loved it and clapped his little hands. Then Touya's smile dimmed the more he looked at the baby. He realised he looked nothing like his siblings or parents. His curly green hair, wide green eyes and freckled cheeks were dead giveaways. "He's not ours, is he?"
His children were all quite smart. Endeavour would have expected nothing less. Although, it doesn't take a genius to know they were clearly not blood related. Still, he rather not tell his children that their mother kidnaped another child just to spite him. "There seemed to have been a mix up in the hospital. I've sent my complains but it seems we're stuck with this little one here."
"Is that why you and mom are fighting a lot more?"
There was a pause. How was the hero supposed to respond to that? He looked at the children. His real one and the other. The sorrowful gaze of his son was sour to see but this is the situation they are in. Might as well push through it. "Never you mind that. For now, let us start with training."
Then Rei entered the room. Her long white hair was more of a mess than usual. Her eyes red and puffed as if she was crying moments before. Any signs of such acts were replaced by pure shock when she spotted her husband and son there. It was the last place she thought to see them.
With Rei's presents, Endeavour quickly scooped up the baby from his son's arms. Then he passed the baby over to his still very confused wife. Leaning into her ears he whispered, "you're the one that brought him here. Take responsibility for it." He then walked away demanding his son to follow. Of course, Touya did. He knew better than to disobey his father.
Rei was left alone with the baby in her arms. It took all her strength not to collapse on her knees and cry once again. She was just so tired. Tired of this place. Everything. Little did she knew little Izuku was reaching out for something. Little arm stretching over her shoulder. His bright green eyes locked onto one thing. The wide back of the hero Endeavour.
AN (this is kind of important) : Ok…I may or may not regret doing this since I have so many incomplete works. Some I do have every intention of complete. Especially, my two other MHA works. Also, a lot going on in real life but here I am anyway. Thing is if anyone bothering to read this has seen my works before I tend to write really long chapters. Which I have fun for the most part but I get burned out and they take a hell of a lot of time to make. At this point in time I don't have the energy to pull that off. So, I'm changing up my usually style for this. Here's how this is going to work
1. These chapters will be short…(I say this now but who knows. They will be shorter than my usual) I'm planning to make these kind of like one shots format of this AU that will build upon one another. Since they're shorter I should be able to update more regularly than usual.
2. Since I have a list of events shots and I have a feeling this is going to take a long time I will be breaking this into seasons. This is to prevent burn out since I kind of get bored if I stick to one work for too long. Once one season is over this will go on an uncertain time break.
3. I'm open to ideas/ potential events anyone want to ask to see. Usually, I have a very strict version of where I want my stories to go and very little can veer me away from that vision. I do still have a main vision in mind of this but if anyone want to throw in ideas I may or may not use them.
That's all. see you next week. Maybe…hopefully…we'll see how life goes.
