The storm raged on as the ship was battered by waves on all sides. A baby boy laid bundled up in a basket inside. His Father fought the assailants that boarded trying to assassinate him and his child. He was betrayed. Mother Nature held no prisoners as she prepared for one last hurrah. The biggest wave ever seen in years crashed over the ship, destroying the mast which crashed against the cabin. Miraculously, the baby boy remained untouched. As one final wave went over the ship, it swept away the boy in the basket taking him miles away from his father who had also survived and was floating on a piece of wood. He would later be found by a trio of fishermen later that morning.
Just as quickly as the storm came, the sky became clear and the sun shined brightly. Such was the weather in the New World. Now the little boy was whisked away on a current that took him all the way back to Paradise. His crying awoke a lonely swordsman who was napping in his coffin shaped boat, a massive sword strapped to his back and a small cross necklace hanging from his neck. He nearly cut the basket in half as his senses alerted him to a disturbance. Thankfully, he opened his eyes before slashing the wide eyed, shaggy haired baby who was surprised by seeing another human after drifting so long, he stopped crying and stared in awe of his savior.
The swordsmen really wanted to go back to napping and pretend he didn't see the baby in the basket. But alas, buried behind the facade of ruthless swordsmen lies a teddy bear. Although, only sometimes. He grabbed hold of the basket and secured it with his boat. He noticed embroidered on the blanket, the name, Luffy D. , the rest of the name was too weathered and dirty to make out. "Hmm, a D., huh,?" murmured Dracule Mihawk, the World's Greatest Swordsmen, well soon at least. He needed to find an island and drop off the baby as soon as possible. All he had were bananas so he mashed them up with water and fed them to the baby little by little. He did this for close to half an hour, the baby was very hungry. To think he found a baby floating on the Grandline, an extremely lucky baby to have survived, a D. Indeed.
Time Skip to Random Island
Mihawk swiftly arrived at the local pharmacy and bought the child milk and diapers. He remembered taking care of the babies at the orphanage where he grew up before running away. He fed the baby properly this time and burped him afterwards. Luffy drank 4 bottles, he was a glutton already. Luffy was enraptured with Mihawk, gazing intensely at him, randomly bursting into laughter. His smile would always startle Dracule, for it was so bright, he felt unworthy of being its recipient with all the blood that stained his sword. Metaphorically, of course, for he always took care of Yoru, and all of his blades.
He changed Luffy into some new clothes he also bought in town before making his way to the orphanage. He stepped up to reception, "Hello, Miss, I found this baby drifting in the ocean water and have come to drop him off. I bought him a few things, his name is Luffy D., his family name is ineligible. Where can I leave him?"
The woman didn't even turn to look at Mihawk, already caring for a baby on each arm and a yelling toddler tugging at her dress. "Just drop him off wherever, someone will get to him, ah this war has killed too many people, everyday we get new kids and the government is no help. With all these new orphans everyday, we will surely run out of food... oh well a problem for another day. "
The receptionist turned away and walked into another room, leaving Mihawk still standing in the main hall. As he tried to let go of Luffy, he, perhaps sensing the impending separation, held onto Dracule for dear life. Big fat silent tears rolled down his fat cheeks, and Mihawk stood no chance. He strolled right out with Luffy and walked back into town for more supplies until he reached his home island.

This is my first ever fanfiction. I finally decided to write something so I welcome constructive criticism. This will be an AU where Luffy is raised by Mihawk and is also a swordsman, he won't aim to be the best (that's Zoro) still wants to be Pirate King. I'm still developing the story but Luffy may have a different devil fruit but he will def be smarter but just as silly. He also might start building fleet sooner or at least lay the groundwork for one later on. Send any ideas if you want I may or may not use them and will of course credit you. I'll make use of time skips for Luffy early years, I won't touch on much so I can quickly get to East blue arc. I do plan for flashback scenes tho so you can see development of relationship between Luffy and Mihawk. ASL will make appearance, Whitebeards will tie in. I'm not sure about any relationships yet if any romance really. Again any ideas for couples send them, but I'm might not use them and I have my own ideas if I do include romance but it wouldn't be a main story more like side story kinda thing. I'm nervous about writing fight scenes so if you have any tips send them my way. Thanks and Enjoy!
