My name is Diana, an Amazon warrior from a distant island in the Pacific. On our island, women are responsible for the safety and duties typically assigned to men. Our customs place us as protectors of the island, managing all tasks and caring for the men who live there. We have a queen who is also my mother. We have a tradition of having a chosen warrior, who becomes the leader of the Amazon army and must always be ready to fight. I participated in a tough competition to become the Amazon warrior and emerged victorious. At first, my mother did not approve, as she wanted me to remain a princess, but since childhood, I trained and aspired to be a warrior. After some time, she accepted and consecrated me as an Amazon warrior.
After a contact with an expedition from a world we did not know, my mother learned of the suffering that occurred in this distant world. Moved by what was described, she decided to send me to help what they called the world of men. The warrior who trained me, Hippolyta, assumed the position of defender of the Amazons while I am in the world of men. Since we have faced years of peace with the neighboring islands, and wars have long ceased, I am confident that my island will remain peaceful while I am in the world of men, bringing justice and aid to those in need.
My mother allowed me to take my Amazon warrior armor with me, and so I embarked on a large ship with the explorers. They looked at me with suspicion and laughed, not believing that I could help their world. Later, I discovered that they had taken me simply because I was an exotic being, intending to deliver me to scholars. Luckily, they handed me over to a natural history museum where I met Margaret, an anthropologist who welcomed me and understood Amazonian traditions. She was very cultured and fascinated by me, allowing me to live in her house and teaching me the languages of the world of men. She is a very intelligent woman and, over time, when I managed to communicate with her in her language, I showed her why I was there and what my mission was. To my surprise, she didn't laugh at me like the others and supported me unconditionally.
I started to go out into the streets and get to know the people's reality, and I discovered how terrifying it was. There were many problems, and I began to prioritize my actions. It wasn't easy, but I managed to help many people who were exploited, hungry, and cold, and who were being robbed. I learned about new weapons that men used, but I remained confident in my training with swords and arrows, even though their weapons were very dangerous and treacherous. I faced many of them with just my sword skills and my well-crafted shield, which they call a "bulletproof vest." I have helped some, but the mission is vast and endless. Margaret always supports me and provides me with news of where I am needed the most, and that's what I have been doing. We are even considering going to other countries. Margaret has great confidence in me. It's incredible how she sees the Amazon warrior in me. Sometimes, I think she believes in me more than the Amazons themselves. She even contemplates sending me to a war that is taking place in Africa. I was sent to the world of men to help people, and I carry this responsibility on my shoulders.
However, something strange has come to my attention in the world of men. Unlike Margaret, who understands Amazonian traditions and supports me on my journey as a warrior, my presence in this world, especially when I wear my warrior attire, is considered daring and causes discomfort in society. Many don't understand the true meaning behind my way of dressing; my armor represents the courage to face all sorts of challenges with just my body and the skills I have been trained in. The Amazons usually don't wear heavy protection in battle; we rely on our abilities, which gives us the strength to face danger without any heavy armor, as we have seen in adversaries who tried to invade our island. However, the protector Amazon, the Chosen Warrior who carries the protection of the entire island on her shoulders, wears a unique outfit, which represents the utmost courage. My blue shorts, a warrior's loincloth, are incomprehensible to those who do not wear them, but they symbolize detachment and valor in facing EVERYTHING, exposed with just my body and soul. The Chosen Warrior leads the way, unprotected, with an open chest, ready for anything with strength and courage. It may seem strange, but this is the spirit of the Amazons. We are fearless, and this armor that I received and always dreamed of wearing gives me courage and extraordinary strength.
Fortunately, some recognize this; those I have helped and some good people now call me Wonder Woman, and that has become my nickname in this world. They see me as a heroine for helping people, and I confess that I enjoy seeing their admiration, even though I feel the responsibility not to disappoint them. They count on me, and now more than ever, I want to be their hero, Wonder Woman. I am ready to give my life for these people because an Amazon fights for justice, and I was sent to this world for that purpose.
Now, in the life I lead, supported by Margaret, helping people and bringing justice and hope to this world, something very strange has reached me through her. She recently made a trip to Central America and returned terrified by what she saw there. She went to study a distant tribe living in the middle of the forest but couldn't reach them. She learned that healthy young people were disappearing, and a curse loomed over that remote village. Margaret could only reach the villages around the dense forest, and the people living there are simple and have many beliefs. They are terrified, believing that evil spirits kidnap these young people during the night, and that the entire remote village is cursed, and no one can go there under the risk of being cursed as well. So, without thinking twice, Margaret brought this mission to me. She wants me to go to the cursed village, find the answers to what is happening, and help the young people avoid being murdered. It is a dangerous mission, but she trusts me, and as an Amazon warrior, she knows that this is what I must do. She is worried about the young people and fears that this curse may spread throughout the region. Local authorities are not interested and are corrupt. Margaret sees me as the only hope for these people.
She said she would support me from the United States, pay for my ticket, and gave me the contact of someone who can take me close to the village. After that point, everything will be up to me until I reach those people. It was strange; I noticed that Margaret was very afraid. She is usually a brave woman whom I admire greatly, and in other operations, she has always been close to me. I expected her to accompany me to Central America, but
I sensed much fear in her. She is terrified, although she tries to hide it. Since she returned from that place, it seems she is very afraid of it and has no intention of going back. Some wickedness dwells in that distant land, and Margaret is different from how I have ever seen her; she is even afraid to go out on the streets and only goes to work with great caution. Apparently, she is in panic. I don't know what awaits me, but this is the life of a warrior; it's the life I chose for myself, and that's why I will fight like an Amazon, with all my determination and courage, as a hero to a people who call me Wonder Woman. I am Diana, but from now on, in this world, I am Wonder Woman.
