this is my first crossover fanfic,i hope it is good enough if not that's ok too (also English is my second language so there is that)
Toriel was on her kitchen taking a pie out of the oven that she has made,it was a pie of snails and caramel her favorite one,she put the pie on the kitchen table and then gently cut a piece of it to taste it,the flavour was good as always with the creamy texture of the caramel going wonderfully with the soft moisture that the snails gave to the pie,truly another exceptional show of how good her cooking was...maybe too good as she could not contain herself and went into eating the rest of the pie,Toriel had gained a bit of weight ever since she started cooking for herself only since she was still used to cooking for four people like the old times when she was married and it had made her go from a fit and slightly muscular body to a more chubby one.
She went into the living room after finishing the pie to rest on her sofa and she also looked in her bookshelf to read one to while resting, amongst them was one she didn't recognize called 'the four legendary heroes' on the front and side of the book
"that's odd...i don't remember having this one" Toriel said while looking at the book opening up to read the beginning of it seeing a drawing of a silhouette holding a sword
"this looks like a human...was this one of Asgore's books? He was obsessive about human souls..." She said reading the description of the hero of the sword as the book called,she turned the page to see another figure but with a bow and then she turned another page to see this time a silhouette with a spear,but it was with the last hero that she found herself more confused,the last one was the shield hero but his page was completely blank with nothing but the silhouette holding a shield
"is this book unfinished? Why would it be? Was it taken before the writer could..." Suddenly a glow of light engulfed Toriel as the book sucked her into it, floating in the air for a second before failing to the floor of the room.
Toriel opened her eyes and got herself up seeing that she was surrounded by the same light as before but now on a much wielder circle,she also saw some figures in cloaks before realizing that she had something on her arm,a shield with a green gem on the middle of it
"Yes the ritual was a succe-" the cloaked man in the front of the others stopped talking after seeing Toriel, despite her cute and friendly look she normally has the man only saw a big goat monster standing in front of him a look fitting of 'the shield devil' as the church would describe but at the same time he saw confusion in her look which he didn't know if it was bad or not. The man stepped forward and continued.
"Please oh brave heroes, our world is in dire need of saving! I'm terribly sorry if we have frightened any of you but our world is in need of your help. We used an ancient ritual which is used to summon you four, the cardinal heroes of legend. Our world needs you brave heroes, as great evil is upon us" He finally finished and waited for the response.
Toriel was unsure what was all of this and when she was about to ask the man in front of her when suddenly...
"You can forget it," another voice spoke up,the second tallest of them spoke up first, a blond boy with a ponytail and red eyes, on one hand he held a long silver spear that seemed to glimmer under the dull rays of the sun that barely illuminated the room they were in. He said bluntly
"I also refuse myself." the one with the bow, the other young greenish blonde haired boy, spoke.
"You brought us here without our consent, don't you feel the least guilty about that?" The one with the sword and black hair said.
"Not to mention, if you throw us out as soon as we restore peace we would've done all that work for nothing" the bow welding teen added.
"How willing are you going to accommodate our requests?" The spear wielder asked as he motioned his spear to point at the robes individuals
As the three young boys made demands,Toriel noticed their weapons and started to piece that they were the heroes in the book,she also realized that the shield on her arm meant that she was the shield hero of the book!
'Maybe that's why his page was blank' she thought to herself putting a hand on her chin,the man in robes then said
"Our king will be more than happy to explain the details further" the robbed gestured then to follow to the throne room of the castle. As they got up the stairs of the tower Toriel was still confused about this
'maybe this is a dream?' She thought but as she and the other heroes stopped to look at the window everything changed...while the young heroes were surprised in seeing how medieval it looked Toriel was different
she saw something that many monsters had been denied to see for all of their lives,the surface,the bright light of the sun spreading through the houses and the warm wind that touched her face was something many monsters dreamed of seeing or had wished to see one more time in their lives
"let's keep moving"said the sword hero snapping Toriel out of her moment feeling the view
"oh sorry i'm going" she may not know what was happening but she was now sure it was fair from a dream.
When they arrived to the throne room many eyes looked at them especially towards Toriel as looks of shock and disgust from the guards came towards her, even the nobles high on a balcony shared thsoe looks, suddenly a voice came in from the throne
"… So, these are the four Cardinal Heroes?"a man said with the four heroes looking at his direction
"Very well,I am King Aultcray Melromarc XXXII." The speaker was an older man donned in robes of cream and navy blue with detailing and trim of gold. Over that was an elegant cloak of a rich purple,his grey hair reached down to his shoulders with a trimmed grey beard,each of his fingers except for the pointer fingers was a gold ring with only the right index finger sporting a gem, purple in color. Upon his head was a gold crown with a lone purple gem on the center of it.
The three summoned heroes all looked at him with a bit of uneasy but Toriel remained with a blank expression on her face,she has seen this sorta of thing all the time when she was queen of the monster's
"now stated your names"said the king is his booming voice
The sword wielding boy spoke up first, "I'm Ren Amaki, I'm a highschool student and 16 years old."
The blonde with the spear went next, "I'm Motoyasu Kitamura, college student 21." He did a flash pose while saying it which made Toriel roll her eyes
"I suppose I'm up next, Itsuki Kawasume, I'm still in highschool and I'm 17."the one with a bow spoke surprising Toriel,he looked much younger than that
"well i suppose i should-"
"Very well heroes "the king interrupted Toriel
'how rude!' Toriel thought, she didn't expect such rude behavior coming from a monarch, she would speak up to complain but felt it would be just as rude
"Now, I suppose I owe you all an explanation. My country, Melromarc, and the entire world is headed towards destruction. There is an apocalyptical prophecy in our world that tells the end of the world and ensures that a great wave will be the cause."spoke the king before clearing his throat and continue
"If the waves cannot be stopped, then the world will be doomed and destroyed. The way we know the waves will start or end is thanks to an hour glass that every country has called the Dragon Hourglasses," The King continued.
"Our kingdom has already been attacked by one of the waves before any of you three were summoned... We had to fight them off with the help of our army and fellow adventurers, though despite our efforts, the second and third waves will be much more overwhelming and powerful than the latter, forcing us into a corner. The hourglass won't stop until all the waves are over and exterminated... it has been a month since the last wave occurred."the King gave a heavy sigh.
"We underestimated the waves. But now we know for sure only the heroes can defeat the waves. And so we invoked you, we had no choice."
The sound of a blade lightly twanging against the floor sounded as Ren raised his voice to speak.
"I understand. But don't tell me we won't get anything in return after being brought here."
"Of course not. We will give due reward when the waves has been eradicated." An old man dressed in a large purple dress to the King's left spoke.
"I'll go," Motoyasu said with a smile. "If you promise, it's fine by me."
"I will help you as long as you don't become my enemies," Ren added, he didn't trust them but as it stands he would need their support "But don't get confused."
"That's right," The green haired boy agreed with the other two. "We won't let them despise us."
"Well i suppose i will too, it would be a shame if innocent children were to be killed in these waves" Toriel said as she thought of how destructive this Waves would be
"yeah it you be but uh...what was your name miss?"itsuki asked as he just now realized that she hadn't introduced herself
"oh my name is Toriel Dreemur little one,I was the guardian of the ruin's before getting here"she said with a friendly smile
"i guess you're some sort of ancient goat that lives in a ruined city" Ren responded in a very rude way
"hey I'm not that old!" Toriel replied annoyed at the comment
"yeah man you can't just say that to a woman,they are sensitive about it" Motoyasu said in defense of Toriel
"we should end this chit chat" Ren said ignoring motoyasu,the King nodded.
"I'll finish the conversation. Well heroes, I want you to confirm your statuses."
"Status?" Itsuki said, sounding confused. "Uh..."
"Didn't you notice when you came to this world?" Ren said, sounding annoyed. "You don't see the icon in the bottom corner?"
Toriel looked in the corner of her eye and say the small square in her vision,by focusing on it a window appeared in front of her

"Only level one… not very reassuring."said itsuki
"What is all this?"Toriel wondered
"why did it put a question mark on my age? Is it assuming my age?" She wondered with a very annoyed look on her face almost of anger and embarrassment
"maybe it was made to show human age instead of uh...goat people age?" Motoyasu said
"I'm not a goat person boy,if anything I'm a goat like monster" she said cheerfully but with a eyebrow raised of which motoyasu was confused as to why she would be so ok to be called a monster
this caught the attention of the king briefly as this was odd but he could use this is to his advantage to make her be hated by people of all around the kingdom
"you're a monster?" The king asked hoping to use words to destroy her image
"yes i am,you see in my world humans and monster had coexisted for centuries,while humans choose that name because all look similar to each other without big difference while we used the term monster due to being more ample since we looked different from each other but we're still the same especies" Toriel said with calm in educational way to the king
"guess that makes sense" Itsuki replied
"yeah it must like this in here too but it was probably humans that created the name since I doubt that the monster's here are as intelligent and organized as the ones you know" Ren said with serious expression while having his arms crossed
"you never know amongst aggressive monster there is always a friendly one" Toriel responded to Ren
the king was slightly angry at this since everything she said was logical and wise like the sort of knowledge his wife had so it would be hard for him to make her commit slip ups
"well since we are going to fight these waves maybe we could form a party since there is four of us" motoyasu said to the others
"that's a wonderful idea!" Toriel said smiling while putting her hands together
"well unfortunately that won't be possible" the king's advisor spoke up
"the legendaries weapons will hinder their growth if they are together so it is better to form individual party's"
a screen appeared in front of toriel's vision
Attention: When two or more wielders of the legendary weapons operate together, it causes an adverse reaction in the weapons. Working separately is advised.
"I will attempt to secure travel companions for you all. Regardless, evening draws near. Heroes, you should rest for the night and prepare for departure on the morrow. In the meantime, I will find talented fighters to form your parties." said the king
The heroes and Toriel thanked the king before a maid led them to their room.
The room provided to the heroes was likely a guestroom normally provided to visiting diplomats of other countries. As such it was well decorated and had four large beds for them as well as a table with chairs and a balcony overlooking the town outside.
As the heroes spread out to sit down,Toriel turned her attention to Ren
"you seem to know alot about how this 'stats' work" she asked
"of course it is similar to Brave Star online,it comes naturally" Ren responded
"you mean Emerald online right?" Motoyasu asked looking confused again
"no it's definitely Dimension Wave,i don't even know what game is Emerald online" itsuki responded to motoyasu's question with his own leaving the four in the room confused
"i understand why Toriel would not know what a video game is but how can you guys not know about Emerald online,it is pretty famous" motoyasu spoke
"maybe you're world is old like her's because where I come from everyone doesn't play on computer's" Ren responded
"all of this doesn't match up,it must mean that we are from different Japan's" itsuki said
"i guess we all should expect something like that since Toriel is from a world where monsters and humans coexist"
"coexisted unfortunately"she pointed out
"there was a war between them with humans being scared of the magic power that the monster's had while the monsters wanted to have the power of determination that only humans possessed"
the others looked at each other"why though? What can the determination of a human do that makes it so valuable for a monster to get it?" Motoyasu asked
"when a monster die it's body and soul turns to dust disappearing ,but with enough determination a human can come back from death"she said with a sad look on her face making motoyasu regret asking
"i sorry for asking it, didn't know it..."he was stopped by Toriel
"no it's ok for you to be curious after all you come from a different place, it's just that there is things i regret in the past but i won't blame you for wanting to know" she gave small but sad smile
"you boys should rest, tomorrow the king is gonna have us up in the morning to get our party members"Toriel said as she walked into her room
"man now I feel terrible for asking" motoyasu said bummed out
"it feels like she is hiding something" Ren said
"let's respect her personal space,it seems that something happened to her that she is obviously very sensitive about" Itsuki replied to Ren wanting him to take easy on the woman
"still i can't totally trust her if she is gonna keep..." He was stopped by motoyasu slamming his fist in the wall
"what?! secrets? So far she has said more in this discussion than you had for the entire day!" He said with a angry look
"you're missing the point dumbass" Ren responded without changing his expression
"she hasn't done anything that would make her guilty,so you can't judge like that,while i wish she would have opened to us it is a unrealistic expectation since we just met" itsuki said almost like he was giving a heroic speech
"yeah man just wait, I'm sure she will tell us once we get to know each other better"motoyasu talked in a less aggressive way
"it will be better that we follow her lead and go to sleep" he said moving to his room
"i still think your trusting her way too much" Ren responded cold as ever
"maybe I am " motoyasu replied while still having his back to ren "but that is my decision to make" he continued walk
"huh" Ren grunted and turned around to go to his room
'this guys are gonna be hard to work with' itsuki thought
author's notes
1- if you your asking why the stats couldn't show Toriel's age there are two reasons one is that is never mentioned in game her age and I couldn't find it while searching so i just guessed and second I'm trying to make it more light hearted and funny because the original shield hero was too dark and edgy to me
2-motoyasu is defense of toriel because let's be honest he is a simp,he trust woman more easily and since he was barely likable in the original I'm trying to make him less of a jerk but due to that Ren is gonna more unfriendly to toriel to compensate
3-heads up I'm not gonna put malty joining Toriel's party,i really despite her but also because it wasn't necessary to do it, toriel is female so that already removes the possibility of the rape plan and since toriel is a goat looking monster people will already act towards her with disgust and hatred because they will see her as a demi human so yeah
