Welcome back to Uncharted Beyond Realms. Last time, Nathan Drake and company figured out the last of the pendants is hidden in the Swamps. Exactly where Spyro headed after he and Cynder almost break up. And he doesn't know it. So the humans split up. Elena goes to try and talk to Cynder, revealing to her what's going on here. Meanwhile, Sully and Nate are heading towards the Swamps to try and beat the Malefic Dawn to the last pendant, and maybe get Spyro back in on this. So, what awaits? Read on to discover...
(Our scene picks up not with the adventuring crew of Nathan Drake, but rather with Spyro, sitting outside a mushroom made into a house by a trio of dragonflies. This is Spyro's childhood home, just where he said he was going. And with him, the trio of dragonflies that still lives here: his brother Sparx, and their parents: Nina and Flash)
Spyro: Thanks for being so willing to put up with me in my... downer state.
Flash: Son, you don't need to worry about that with us. We're here for you no matter what. Triumph and tragedy.
Sparx: So what's this I hear about you and Cynder being on the rocks? I thought you were smooth sailing.
Spyro: So did I.
Sparx: Wait, is this related to the whole Guard discussion?
Spyro: Yeah.
Nina: What happened?
Spyro: Long story short, Cynder went into the Guard. I tried to convince her not to, since I just knew it would draw the worst out of her co-workers, since not everyone's forgiven her for... well you know.
Nina: I take it Cynder didn't take too favorably to that.
Spyro: Probably the understatement of the century. We've been fighting about it for months now. (Starting to tear up) I was just trying to protect her from any further harm. Was I wrong to do that?
Flash: Not as far as I'm concerned. You're a protector, son. That's your love language.
Spyro: It seems to not be a love language worth speaking. Since Cynder and I had a recent blowup about it.
Nina: How specifically?
Spyro: I told her I was trying to protect her from people who would make her life hell. All she told me was that her life was always hell. And that she was doing this to make sure others didn't live the same hell she did. Then she told me I didn't need to look over her shoulder.
Sparx: That... actually sounds like what Cynder would do. Given her situation.
Spyro: That's what drove me back here. How was I so blind that I didn't see that? Was I always that blind? (Going into full blown tears at this point) If I'm this bad to her, why does she love me?
(As Spyro just breaks down, Nina flies up to him, and hugs his snout)
Nina: Your heart was in the right place. Like your father said, you're a protector. But you grew up a protector in the worst possible time for it.
Spyro: In the middle of a war, I know.
Nina: You're still coming down from that. You lost so much all at once in those years.
Sparx: Yeah, do we even need to bring up Ignitus?
Nina: You threw yourself into protecting Cynder because she was one of the last people you had.
Flash: Just like when you tried to convince us to move to Warfang. You're trying to keep your family close to your heart.
Nina: But what happened is that you held too tight. Your grief had you forget that she can protect herself about as well as you can. But given what you've been through, it's not surprising. I'm sure Cynder knows this too, or at least will consider it in time.
Spyro: (Drying his eyes) Thanks, Mom. I knew I could count on you guys. But, knowing this, how can I make this up to her?
Nina: Give Cynder her space. I know she still loves you, deep in her heart. But reconciliation needs to happen on her terms. She'll find you when she's ready.
Spyro: (With a slight chuckle) Of course the only solution is going to be the hardest.
Nina: It usually is with love.
Spyro: But, I guess I picked a good place to wait.
Flash: Stay as long as you need son. We're here for you.
(And on that happy family moment, our story ends for now)
And that's where I'm going to call for today. So, Spyro now knows what he has to do, just give Cynder her space, since his love language of protection went a little overboard after the war. But, in reality, isn't that probably the most Spyro thing we've seen out of this version of him? So, will this be enough? And furthermore, what are Nate and Sully up to? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
