Prolog

Pronghorn

Pronghorn stared into the eyes of the Leafwing. He wouldn't let another dragon take him down. His eyes darted over the others. An Icewing behind him hissed. He flicked his tail in one motion and the Icewing quieted. He spotted a dragon in the sky as it got ready to dive down onto him.

"Iceberg move!" he yelled to the Icewing. He and Iceberg spun and rolled down the mountain as the dragon above crashed onto the others. He and Iceberg crashed and rolled into trees, not able to stop.

Iceberg gave a shout as his head collided with a tree stump. Pronghorn dug his sharp claws into the ground causing him to stop. Next to the stump, Iceberg lay unconscious.

"Iceberg!" Pronghorn lept forwards towards the Icewing. His head was bleeding badly. "No. No." he scrambled closer. "I can heal it. I have to." he placed a talon on Icebergs head and whispered, "Heal this dragon from any injury he had just suffered."

Iceberg gave a gasp as his eyes flipped open into small slits. "What happened?"

Pronghorn gave a sigh of relief. "We went down the mountain. It was a bad idea on my end but it was the only way out." Pronghorn stretched his claws revealing the thin membrane between his claws.

Iceberg sat up slowly. "What is happening? Why are Panatala dragons coming here?"

"I think, for us hybrids. They didn't want to kill us." Pronghorn said. His four hivewing wings flared. "The dragon diving down at us was getting ready to grab."

Iceberg tapped his tail to the ground. "That means the ones hidden are safe. No one can find them."

"For now at least. Up here," Pronghorn stared up at the sky. "We're all alone."

Iceberg shivered. "We need to find Nova and tell her what's happening. And the elder."

Pronghorn turned his head. "We have no idea where the elder is. If anything they'd have died a while ago."

Iceberg shook his head. "No, the elder had enchanted themself to be immortal, so they could help hybrids. They went into hiding before we were hatched."

Pronghorn sighed. "I don't know if we can do this. Protecting ourselves is one thing but protecting a bunch of dragonets."

"I know," Iceberg nodded. "It seems impossible. But we must protect them. If the Queens want hybrids this badly it won't be good."

Pronghorn lowered his head. "We're all in danger."

"Come on," Iceberg nudged Pronghorn. "We have to find Nova."

"How?" Pronghorn sat up slowly. "She's a recluse. She only comes when we get a new hybrid."

"We have to find her," Iceberg said. "She can't be hidden that well."

"Maybe we could send her a message?" Pronghorn thought.

"No. We don't know where she is." Iceberg said softly. "The only reason she knows about a new hybrid is because she's a Future seer."

"Maybe she'll fore see us trying to find her," Pronghorn grumbled. "Then she could make it easier to find her."

"I doubt it." Iceberg shrugged. "Like I said. She's a recluse."

"Let's go. Maybe the others know where the elder is." Pronghorn shoved his head to his left.

"Alright." Iceberg nodded. "Let's go."

"Look out!" Iceberg called out. A Sandwing dove in fast catching Pronghorn off guard. The sandwing grabbed his wings and they both fell to the ground a little fast but not too fast. Another Sandwing was doing the same to Iceberg.

"Stop," Pronghorn called to the Sandwings. "We're not your enemies."

The sandwing snorted. "You're not an enemy. You are a weapon Queen Obsidian plans to use. Hybrids and more capable to have different tribe powers." He then looked back at Iceberg. "Queen Frost won't be pleased to see one of her subjects fighting for hybrids. I bet she'll kill you for treason."

Pronghorn thrashed hard, making the Sandwing lose his grip. He couldn't open his wings fast enough. He plummeted to the ground full of rocks and trees. The Sandwing was still in the air, figuring Pronghorn would be dead.

"No!" He heard Iceberg yell.

He closed his eyes ready to hit the ground. Something stopped him right before he hit the ground. It held him up for a second then let him drop. He landed on his back softer than he was going to. He sat up looking around. A tail slithered away from him before he could ask questions. He followed the dragon tail quietly.

A roar of sadness came from above. Pronghorn saw Iceberg try and escape the Sandwing claws holding him up. I'll find you Iceberg, he thought. He watched as the sandwings dragged him in the air towards the dessert.

Something shifted in the trees and startled him. It was what he was following, A dragon. He followed it again, getting closer to the cliffs above him. As he slipped out of the trees he saw the tail disappearing into a cave. His Night Vision from his fathers side wasn't the best, but it would work for now. He stepped up to the cave and slowly walked inside, aware anything could come out and attack.

The shifting of scales stopped him. He glanced around the cave, looking for any signs of life. As his eyes scanned the cave a torch lit itself. A few other torches copied it revealing a giant cave. In the center a dragon sat. She towered over him, a trail of smoke coming from her nose. Pronghorn did his best to keep his body calm as his heart raced.

"Why have you come here?" Her eyes glared at him..

"I..I didn't mean to." He stammered like a dragonet. "I fell."

The dragon snorted. "You are a hybrid." She stood up and stepped closer to him.

"Yes I am," he tried to use the commanding voice she held.

"Where are you from, hybrid?" She walked around him in circles. "The Caves by the Sea Kingdom?" she answered his thought. "I haven't visited those caves in quite some time. I wonder how you got out." She started walking back to the spot she was in. "What is your name?"

"Pronghorn," he said before she could answer from his head.

"I remember you," she flicked her tail. "Your mother and father had asked me to put you with the other hybrids, away safe from the Queens."

It suddenly hit him. "You're the Elder."
