Heaven's Halo

Prologue
A yawn could be heard as a humanoid being got out of bed and stretched its arms and legs out. The humanoid had no visible hair that could be seen. The skin was white in color and smooth in texture. The face featured a pair of emerald green elliptical eyes and lacked a nose. A white halo with an emerald green aura floated over the head. The center of the halo showed a bird sigil on it with an emerald green dot in the middle. The being sported digitigrade legs ending with slightly angled feet. It had a thin, snake-like tail. He was a young adolescent male. His name was Emile, Emile Hogarth.
A phone rang and then picked up the phone. He saw the image of a female avian-like humanoid with a metallic amber coat of feathers. She had cyan-colored eyes with white pupils. She was wearing a pink-red dress. She had long, metallic green tail feathers with eye spots similar to those of a peacock. She bore doms elegant blond hair feathers. The name on the phone reads Amelia. He answered the phone.
"Hello?" Emile asked. "Amelia?"
"So you finally woke up, Emile," A female voice was heard. "How was that nap of yours?"
He was ecstatic to hear her voice.
"It felt like the best nap I've had since the last one!" Emile said. "So uh... what's up?"
"Well... my father wanted to tell you that you are needed back at HALO for a new assignment along with your partner," Amelia said. "What was his name again? I forgot what it was."
"Ezekiel," Emile said. "So when did your dad want to see me again?"
"Well... about that..." Amelia spoke. "You're... probably going to be late for the briefing."
"Huh?!"
Emile looked at the clock and saw that it was indeed almost time for the briefing.
"GAH! I thought I set my alarm for 7:35 in the morning!" Emile said. "Oh man oh man oh man! I'm going to be late for the briefing! I'll call you back!"
"Wait, don't—"
He hung up and opened his closet to find his white-gold uniform. He quickly dons the uniform, tying a black necktie around his neck after getting the suit, dress shirt, belt, and pants on. He got out of his room and entered a living room in his apartment, opening up a door leading to the balcony. In front of him was a city built on floating islands in an endless sea of clouds. A pair of white angel wings sprout out of his back and spread forth. He jumped and flapped his wings, launching himself into the air.
Emile felt the wind in his wings as he began gliding across the skies of Paradiso City, a city within the first heaven, Vilon.
A tall and slender humanoid peacock with cyan-colored eyes and white pupils walked into a room filled with angels that were sitting at their desks. He was wearing a white uniform with epaulets; an aiguillette; white long pants, and a white top hat with a crown. His head feathers hang down his head with most of them hanging down the back of his head, leaving two head feathers to hang like a pair of bangs.
His name is Forfax. He is the angel of astronomy and a principality. He is of the Heaven-Goetia family of angelic royalty that has existed since Lucifer's Rebellion. Forfax was a prince who goes by the full name of Forfax li Grigori. He was a married man with one daughter.
He looked upon his subordinates who were archangels and angels alike. Some of these angels happen to look more alien than the other angels. These alien-looking angels are in fact humans who have become angels after being accepted into Heaven. These human angels were identified as the Risen, for their souls were brought into Heaven by the grace of God.
He looked at one desk where a heaven-born angel was sitting alone. The angel was wearing a black uniform with gold epaulets and a gold necktie. The cuffs had golden crosses on them. The angel had black hair and bore some crest feathers that hung out in front of the angel's face. The halo had a grey aura. The plaque reads off as Ezekiel. Next to the angel was an empty seat with a different plaque that reads Emile.
'Emile is running late...' Forfax thought. 'Usually, Samson's the one that always comes in late in these briefings.'
He cleared his throat.
"Gentlemen—"
He was suddenly interrupted by the sound of someone throwing the door open. He looked toward the door, snapping his neck 90 degrees to the left. There he saw...
Emile.
He was panting as if he had just run a whole marathon. Forfax was surprised, to say the least.
"Well baby boy, you chose a good time to interrupt me just as I was about to start the briefing today," Forfax said calmly.
"Sorry, sir... I was... kinda tired after that... that party... on your wedding anniversary..." Emile said.
"Come on baby boy, sit next to Ezekiel, will you?" Forfax said. "He's been worried sick about you."
Some of the angels in the room laughed or at least tried their best not to laugh. Emile made it to his seat and sat down. Forfax closed the door and clapped his hands. The room fell silent. He took a deep breath.
"Gentlemen, the Heavenly Host's Angelic Logistics Organization, or H.A.L.O., is happy to have you all here," Forfax said. "We have some new blood here. New heaven-borns who have decided to take up the mantle of those who came before them. More blessed ones who seek a new life, fighting for what is right and maintaining order and peace. Regardless, that has not changed the overall purpose of HALO."
He had been practicing this speech for after the 31st wedding anniversary between him and his lovely wife Beatrice. Today was when HALO was founded during the early 20th century when mankind was becoming more and more technologically advanced (and had like two wars in a row, spiking the total population of Hell). He wanted to impress some of the new recruits that came in.
"The purpose of HALO is a plain and simple one," Forfax said. "To uphold balance in the universe while protecting mankind from any and all threats."
He puffed his chest in pride.
"Some of you have died young and you all have people down there who yet live. Some of you know all too well what would happen if the living world was caught in a war between Heaven and Hell and how frightening it is to think that we are stepping closer to that reality," Forfax said. "We must ensure that such a possibility does not come to pass, for we are righteous blades of the Father. We, like many of our brothers and sisters who serve the will of God, are exorcists, and we enforce the will of God. If any dare to defy the will of the Father, we shall rend them apart and leave them inanimate once more. Heaven will remember your names for generations, that I can assure you."
"But remember, we are neither simple exterminators nor simple guardians. That is not what we are," Forfax said. "We will find our enemies in the shadows, study their strengths and weaknesses, and bring down the hammer of justice upon them. We will judge them for their crimes against humanity. We will punish them in the name of God. We will execute the will of God to the best of our ability. We will bring justice and order to the universe, for we are the law!"
He puts his hands together in prayer, the angels in the room doing the same.
"May the father be our guide in troubling times," Forfax said. "Amen."
"Amen," all the angels in the room said.
They broke out of prayer. Forfax took a deep breath.
"Emile, Ezekiel, you two have a special assignment for today," Forfax said, pulling out a device. "Catch."
Emile caught the device.
"Take a look in that data pad. You'll find your mission parameters on it," Forfax said. "Look through it and review the information on it. After that, go see Pinkerton. He has something special for you two. You'll need it."
Forfax saw Emile stand up with a salute.
"You got it Mr. F!" Emile said.
"Yes, lord Forfax, we'll be on our way," Ezekiel said as he got up.
Forfax sighed and facepalmed.
There it was. The one thing that just about ruined the moment. There were better times and places where it would have been acceptable for "Mr. F" to be used and now in the offices of HALO, just right after he made that speech, was neither the place nor the time. He felt embarrassed.
"Emile, it's Lord Forfax, not Mr F," Forfax said. "Do remember that when you're here on the job."
"O-Oh... uh... s-sorry—"
"Let's just go already, Emile," Ezekiel said as he patted Emile on the back.
"Y-Yes, out you go," Forfax said.
Forfax watches the two boys leave. He couldn't help but cock a hidden smile. Those two were his protégés. He stood back up and looked serious again. He cleared his throat.
"Alright, next is..."
Emile left the room with Ezekiel, his partner since he first joined HALO. Emile looked at his partner. His partner looked gloomy as usual. Ezekiel was always just gloomy looking all the time, especially when the two worked together. When Emile joined HALO, he felt excited about it. HALO was practically Heaven's version of the FBI and CIA. It was all about the adventure that comes along with beating demons back into Hell, investigating demon crimes, and combating the influence Satan and his minions have on the living world. He had seen spy movies like Mission Impossible and movies in the James Bond series when he was just a kid, fascinated by the idea of being a secret agent who is confident and pulls out all the one-liners while getting himself a girlfriend. But that wasn't the whole reason behind it. Aside from wanting to be like Solid Snake or James Bond, he joined HALO because it was something that his ancestors and his descendants would do.
His father was a US soldier, just like his grandfather, his great-grandfather, and his ancestors. His father and his forefathers were patriots who valued freedom and justice for all people. Emile took this path because it was something that was screaming in his own blood. Though his mother encouraged him to be a lawyer or a behavioral psychologist, he knew what path his father would take.
He and Ezekiel were making their way to Pinkerton's. Whatever Pinkerton has there must be really important for their next assignment. Pinkerton's Workshop was down the stairs.
"So we're off to Pinkerton's workshop already," Emile said. "Man I can't wait to see what he's got for us!"
"You're very enthusiastic about it," Ezekiel said nonchalantly. "You're sure you're not going to break it this time?"
"Hey, that's not cool partner," Emile said, "Plus, it wasn't even my fault that time. I didn't even touch it."
"He spent hours making that special coffee maker, and you broke it," Ezekiel said. "And the worst part of it all was that it was meant for Lord Gabriel."
Emile was silent. His eyes moved off to the side. Ezekiel raised his brow.
"You do know Gabriel likes his coffee black, right?" Ezekiel asked.
"Yes..." Emile said. "That and he drinks jars of it..."
They saw a sign that said "Pinkerton's" on it. This must be his workshop where he does all his work in. The two angels went inside and saw a halo hovering over a metallic head. And a humanoid body.
"Hey Pinkie, we're back!" Emile said.
The head turned a full 180 degrees, revealing its camera-like head to the boys. Emile jumped for a moment. The camera had a multitude of flaps around it, allowing it to show emotion. This was Pinkerton, a Blessed angel.
'God that still scares me...' Emile thought to himself.
"Ah, Emile, Zeke, what brings you here?" Pinkerton spoke through a voice box. "I was just about done making my latest invention."
"What is it this time?" Emile asked.
The machine had a bit of a 'smile' on its face.
"Get this, it's a portable microwave that you can store in your pocket!" Pinkerton said.
Emile looked amazed. Ezekiel just sighed. Pinkerton, as smart as he was thanks to that master's degree in engineering and science he got from college, would have some of the wackiest ideas possible.
"Lord Forfax said you have something for a mission he's assigning us to," Ezekiel said.
"Ah! I know just what you're talking about! I got it with me right here!" Pinkerton said, turning his whole body around. His hands were robotic. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a golden pocket watch. He pressed the button and it opened to reveal a map. "It's perfect for the job! This thing comes with a holographic map with some sensors perfect for finding any irregularities, like say, a portal or whatnot. Catch."
He closed it and tossed it over to Ezekiel. He caught it and stuffed it into his pocket.
"Well, this should prove useful in our mission, assuming it works as advertised," Ezekiel said.
"I field tested it myself and it'll work," Pinkerton said. "But, you'll have to make some adjustments. I haven't had the time for it."
"Oh yeah that reminds me," Emile said. "I didn't look over the mission details yet..."
Ezekiel glared at Emile, who smiled nervously and scratched the back of his head.
Ezekiel sighed. "Let's see what's so special about this one."
Emile pulled out the device and pressed a button. The machine turns into a tablet that displayed data. Emile, Ezekiel, and Pinkerton took a look at it.
"Huh? It says that we have to take care of a bunch of imps that have been slipping into the mortal realm..." Ezekiel said. "Multiple times at that..."
"That's so cool!" Emile said. "I mean, the imps aren't as cool, but you get what I mean."
"Focus," Ezekiel said.
"Sorry," Emile said. "So I guess we got to go after them, right?"
He saw some photos attached to it and looked into it. He opened up the attachment and it showed at least three or two imps. Two males and one female. One of the males has a distinctive white blemish over to the right eye. The photos show that they do have weapons.
Including guns.
Seeing the guns, Emile heard the faint sound of a gunshot and some screams. He felt pain in his chest like something tore into his heart. He clutched his chest as his pupils began to dilate.
"Emile?"
He snapped out of it and looked at Ezekiel.
"Oh uh... it's... um... nothing," Emile said.
He focused on the imp with the blemish.
"Head honcho?"
"Head honcho," Ezekiel said.
"Ok, that just about settles it," Emile said before closing the data pad. "Let's go and get ready, partner."
The two began to walk out of the workshop.
"Good luck you two!" Pinkerton said, waving his hand.
Meanwhile...
Forfax stood before an angel with blue eyes and pale blue hair that was slicked back. The angel wore a white gold uniform with epaulets. A rapier was seen in its sheathe. The angel turned to face Forfax. He had a stern look on his face. He had dark circles around his eyes.
"Have you been getting some sleep, Gabriel?" Forfax asked.
"Yes, but it's hard for me to sleep with the way things are on Earth and in Hell," the angel called Gabriel said.
"My lord, you haven't been drinking any coffee late at night, right?" Forfax asked. "You mustn't overexert yourself. You are the ruler of Vilon, after all."
Gabriel sighed. "You're such a busybody."
"Well someone has to look after you whenever your older siblings aren't around to do so," Forfax said before giggling. "To be fair though, I do have a wife and daughter to look after."
Gabriel smiled at that.
"I get it," Gabriel said. "How are they anyhow?"
"They're fine as usual," Forfax said. "My little chick is continuing with her studies. Beatrice is probably doing one of those modeling shoots again."
"Your wife has always been a fashionista," Gabriel said.
The two laughed.
"I have her to thank for the hat she gave me on the night that she and I got married," Forfax said. "I'll still remember how she reacted to my proposal."
That was a night for him to remember alright. Beatrice was flushed when Forfax showed her the ring and did that silly bird dance he learned a while back during his youth. Her tail feathers flipped out, her face redder than Hell's red sky, brighter than a tomato, and her voice was quivering. That alone had to be the happiest moment of his life before he became a dad.
"So... have you heard of the rumors of what's going down in Hell?" Forfax asked.
"You mean that hotel thing?" Gabriel asked. "The one that Z and Raph are talking about?"
"Yes, that one," Forfax said. "My daughter caught wind of this idea of redemption. The whole idea of sinners being redeemed has been circling around in Heaven, even Heaven's nobility is talking about it."
"I see..." Gabriel said. "What do you think of it all?"
"Me? Well, I..." Forfax paused for a moment. "I might as well support the idea."
Gabriel turned to Forfax.
"Really?" Gabriel asked.
"Yes," Forfax said. "Sure, Lucifer believes mankind is doomed to failure, but if his daughter believes otherwise, I'd like to see if she can pull it off."
Gabriel looked at his friend. Forfax bent down and nuzzle his head into Gabriel's.
"She just needs faith, lots of it," Forfax said.
