This story was inspired by another writer 'burtonfan422' named "Alternative Toy Story" and it just stuck with me.
His story had the main idea of Toy Story 2 with Sonic being Woody, but it also crossover many other shows into one. It was made almost 5 years ago by the time this story is published. With TYS2 and SU being one of my many favorite things, I had to make my own. The idea would not leave my mind for days until I started writing this, I hope you enjoy this one as well as the others that are or going to be published here. Enjoy!
It was any other spring morning for the life of a toy in a child's room. Being played with, going on adventures, the works. This child was named Scott, an 8 year old boy with a love of action figures and a game series called 'Sonic the Hedgehog.' He has brown hair and green eyes with a blue Sonic the Hedgehog shirt. On his table next to his bed, he has a few figures standing up right in their own poses.
One of them was covered in red with a crescent moon on his chest, two spike-like knuckles on each of his gloves, black nose, tan muzzle, red dreadlocks on his head, and red and yellow shoes with a plate of metal on top. The next was a two tailed fox with almost golden yellow fur and a white muzzle with baby blue eyes. Another was a hedgehog that had pink fur with a velvet red dress and two golden rings on each wrist. Another was standing behind them with black fur, a tan muzzle, red stripes along his arms and legs, golden rings on his wrists and feet, and red crimson eyes. There was another with a bright yellow color with cloth hanging on its arms as the animal is a flying squirrel.
There weren't any on the shelves, but a few books or magazines were left up there. He also had Sonic merch along his room, like posters or pictures. There was very little that wasn't related to Sonic. He was playing another Sonic game on his own console. He just had completed a level that he had difficulty for the past few days.
"Alright! I finally beat this level!"
"Piece of cake!" The Sonic from the game said after the final ranking was displayed along with the score of the round.
"Scott! Come here and get your bag ready for the school trip!" A feminine voice rang.
"Coming, mom!"
Scott put his controller down and left the room, shutting the door behind him. After a few moments of complete silence, the figures start to move on their own. The pink one let out a grunt,
"Scott left the TV on, again…" The pink one spoke.
"Typical… He never learns, how does he not get caught with this?" The black one asked.
"Geez, Shadow. Relax, he's just a kid," A new voice spoke from the other side of said TV.
The voice came from another figure standing near the power button. He was similar to Sonic, but he had a light blue color with a tan muzzle like Shadow, long blue quills, black eyes, and red shoes. But what made him different from the rest was that he was a little bit shorter than the others and had a small shining necklace on his neck, holding something in the shape of a small guitar. He didn't look like his game counterpart, but when questioned about it he didn't know. He suspects that maybe he was a promotional item that was only available for a limited time. Shadow used this as an insult one time, saying that he was a defect. Others were shocked at this, but Sonic actually brushed it off much to the other's confusion. He was leaning on the TV with his hand on the button and pressed it, shutting it off.
"-Besides, he has us. We don't want him to get in trouble do we?" He asked. Shadow only grunted in response.
"Who cares about that?" The two tailed fox yelled, "Can you guys believe Scott's field trip to that toy convention is today? I've heard there is a whole new section just for action figures and tools! What do you think, Amy?"
"I think it sounds amazing, Tails! Do you think he'll bring one of us along, Knuckles? It is in the next state over… didn't they say they would be there for a couple days?" The pink hedgehog figure named Amy replied.
"Maybe." The red figure answered.
"Well, I wouldn't be surprised if he chooses me." Sonic gloated.
Shadow just scoffs, "Of course you wouldn't, you've been with him since he was in kindergarten!"
Technically true, Sonic was with Scott way longer than the others, but he was tired of Shadow's constant attempts to insult him. He only looked at him and said, "Oh, come on… I know all of you have the same chance, I was only kiddin'!"
Before anyone else could join in, they started to hear footsteps reaching closer to Scott's bedroom door.
"Someone's coming!" Tails yelped.
Everyone went back to their original positions before freezing in the same pose as before. The door opens to reveal Scott going over the last few things he needs before they go.
"Alright, Scott. We're leaving in 5 minutes, so this is your last chance to grab anything!" His mother yelled from the other room.
"5 minutes? Hmm…" Scott thought.
His eyes locked onto his toys and started playing with them. He made Shadow the villain, again, while Sonic and his friends try to stop him. They fought for a few minutes before Knuckles threw the final punch after Shadow got hit by Amy and Tails. He placed Sonic's foot on Shadow to show victory and triumph. The moment was cut short when Scott's mom called out.
"Scott! Time to go!"
"Coming! Bye, guys." Scott said before leaving his room and shutting the door behind him.
At that moment, Shadow immediately pushed Sonic off him and started walking away.
"Looks like the Ultimate Lifeform doesn't like 'make believe'." Sonic chuckled.
Shadow only grunted while the others laughed.
"Well, I guess none of us are going." Amy sighed.
"To be honest, I'm glad I wasn't chosen. I don't feel safe going all alone…" The flying squirrel said.
"It's alright, Ray." Amy comforted.
That caused sad looks among the others. Well, besides Shadow. The 'Ultimate Lifeform' isn't supposed to show emotion other than rage, but the other toys understood Ray. Ever since their friend Mighty, an armadillo action figure from the series, disappeared a couple weeks ago, he's always been afraid to do things alone. Mighty was always able to help Ray over his fears, but with him gone he was never able to get through them.
Sonic heard the sound of Scott running down his lawn and jumped up to the windowsill next to the desk, looked out to see him getting into the car, and watched them drive out of sight.
"Alright, everyone. Scott has left the building, we have the room to ourselves now."
Everyone spent the rest of the day either relaxing or talking with the other toys. Shadow was mainly alone and just stood wherever he wanted, but there were very few moments where he did talk. But only to one other toy, she was about the same height as Shadow with a white color base, bat ears and wings, wore a sort of revealing suit in black, and goes by the name Rouge. She was on the other side of the room before Scott left. The same with another toy. This time, she was an echidna like Knuckles. She was more orange than red and looked more ancient than the others in terms of clothing. She was talking to Knuckles casually with Chaos, a water creature with the powers of the Chaos Emeralds. Amy was talking with Ray, trying to make him feel better. Finally, Tails walked up to Sonic, who was by the TV, so they could talk, but there were some questions that he needed to get off his chest.
"Sonic?"
"What's up, Tails?"
"I know we've been friends for a while, but…" He held his arm and rubbed it with his hand, clearly shy and afraid to ask such a question.
"What is it, buddy?" Sonic asked with an eyebrow raised.
Tails hesitated but finally pushed it out. "Why are you different from the one from the games?"
Sonic shook his head in response. "Oh, Come on, Tails. We've been through this already! Look I get it, I look different from the one you see everywhere now. I'm a little short, have less spiky quills, and I have this weird thing around my neck. But the truth is, I don't know."
"But don't you want to know who you really are?"
"What makes you think I don't?" Sonic added back.
"I was just-"
"Look, Tails… " Sonic placed a hand on Tails' shoulder, he was still taller than him so he wouldn't have to reach above himself. "I want to know just as much as you do, but there isn't anything I can do right now."
Tails looked away from his gaze for a moment before he returned back. "But doesn't that bother you?"
"Kinda, it's hard to explain-" Sonic removed his hand from Tails' shoulder and used it to lean on the TV. Little did he know, he accidentally pressed a button that turns the TV on and auto detects input. It played a very loud commercial which took everyone off guard.
"Hey, kids! It's Kevin, from Kev's Figures! The best action figure store in town!"
"Sonic! Turn that off, someone's gonna hear!" Amy yelled.
Sonic frantically searched for the power button as the commercial continued.
"We've got all kinds of figures! Just head down highway-" The man's speech was interrupted by the television losing power before the screen died to black.
"I despise that man." Knuckles muttered.
"You despise anyone you don't like." Rouge quipped.
"Hey!"
Everyone besides Shadow laughed at that. Even Ray chuckled a bit, leaving Knuckles to cross his arms. The day went by really fast and everyone went to bed shortly after. Sonic was laying against the side of the windowsill, looking at the stars above next to the moon. He was starting to get sleepy himself, but Tails' question was still haunting him.
"Don't you want to know who you really are?"
"Sonic?"
However, his train of thought was interrupted by Amy walking up and sitting next to him.
"Hey, Amy. What are you still doing up?" he asked.
"Well, you usually sit up here at night to think. Any other night you would be sleeping anywhere else."
Sonic sighed before looking back up at the stars. Amy gave one of her own as she knew what he was thinking.
"You're thinking about where you came from, aren't you?"
"Yeah…" He didn't even look at her.
"You don't remember anything? Anything at all?"
"No… I want to remember, but I can't remember anything before- before…"
"S-Storage?" Amy stuttered in fear. The mere mention of storage could send a chill down a toy's non-existent spine. A toy is meant to be played with, not to be in a box or bag stored away somewhere cold and dark.
"Ye-Yeah…"
Sonic felt himself get really cold and hugged himself as a shiver slipped out.
"You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to." Amy whispered.
"It's fine, you should get some sleep. I'm too tired to talk right now." Sonic yawned.
"Right…"
Amy jumped off the windowsill and laid down onto the table below to sleep the night away. In a few minutes, so would Sonic. Maybe he would remember his past sooner or later, but every night he wishes the memories would come back to him… Someday… His eyes were heavy as weights and started to close…
"Someday…" he thought before falling asleep to have the best dream he could think of. Too bad it turned out to be a nightmare…
