In the Paldea Region is a decades old academic institution known as Paldea Trainer Academy. It has 2 sub schools, the Uva and Naranja academic paths. The Uva Academy is for those who wish to train for a specialized career, and Naranja is for trainers wanting to take part in the gym challenge and go onto challenge for the rank of champion. Some students go for both paths, decades worth of gym leaders have studied at this academy.

Today was the day before the new semester started at Paldea Trainer Academy, Director Clavell, the new headmaster of the school for 18 months, this would be his 4th term acting in this capacity. He was on his way to meet the new student who got a scholarship after placing 1st in a double battle tournament back in Galar. His name was Sabre Crimson, and he was particularly well remembered as he beat all 10 battles with only an Eevee with an unusual color and a Corvisquire, the pair utilized the air borne travel with Eevee's long range moves to avoid damage and deal tons to their opponents. Clavell was quite impressed when he vacationed this last school break. The 13 year old trainer had dealt with his grandfather's deaths, just 3 days after going on his journey he only caught Rookidee, but during the help of keeping the family business of special poké ball production, but now he'd managed to get the chance to travel around Paldea.

Before he left he'd been gifted the 8 types of apricorn poké balls his family produced: fast, lure, friend, love, moon, heavy, level, and one pasted on from ancestors in early Sinnoh a jet ball, meant to catch high flying pokémon made of the sky apricorns named after the blue color and their significant 1/15th of the weight of a normal poké ball practically floats to the targeted pokémon.

Clavell has come to welcome Sabre at his host families house, the Lavender's they have a daughter going through her first year's second term. Maria Lavender, her track is a double focus on home economics and battle as she wants to go to Hoenn to begin a career competing in pokémon contests. She was one of the last to pick her starter of the first years. Each year has the students who pass a requestable at any time written test that will result in a student who gets 70% or more getting a starter pokémon but a student who gets 100% was, jokingly, said to get a set of starter pokémon and last term on the first day she was the first student in the last several decades of the school's history to get 100% and after a bit of debate a decision was reached, with her receiving 2 paldean starters, Fuecoco and Quaxly. Since then she has become quite popular with her contest performance practices going up on the Roto-pkone app, Poké-Tube a social media site that allows trainers to post pokémon battles, contest routines, pokémon food recipes, and all other types of entertainment with one of the top stars being a retired contest star that is now an Idol/Gym Leader, Iona. She's mildly popular with 35k followers with a growing audience.

Clavell goes upto to the house when he hears a commotion, he goes around to see a shiny Eevee and Quaxly battling, Quaxly using a Water Gun attack to send a small jet of water at the fox's face, who defends with Swift to crash into the duckling pokémon.

(Note: Sabre and Maria are the player trainers with Maria being the female 3rd darkest skin tone, Sabre being the male with the lightest skin tone.)

"Spin and use Wing Attack!" Maria shouts. The duck spins clockwise as he glides as his wings prepare a strike.

"Eevee block it with Shadow Ball!" The silver fox launched the dark purple orb at the spiralling foe, stopping the foe in his tracks, rolling back at Maria's feet and ending the battle. "Good work again!" Sabre reassures her.

"You did so well, Quaxer. I'll take you to the pokémon center in a few, just let's get Singacoco in a battle today too." She'd nicknamed her pokémon after Singer and Dancer as that's the behavioral patterns of those starter pokémon of paldea they're all more driven to perform even in battles, as she explains on her channel. She has her Fuecoco out for battle with Corvisquire.

"If I may interrupt, Mr. Crimson? I have a gift for you." Clavell smiles, holding the 3 poké balls. Maria and Sabre looked over and ran up to the older gentleman, they beamed in anticipation. "Now we haven't had any luck with our breeding center to get the Paldean starter pokémon but my friend from Kalos sent these over to me as a late congratulations on my direct job." He explains as he tossed up the 3 balls that send out 3 beams of light to have a brown with green nut armor wearing chipmunk, a yellow with red ear tufts having fox, and a blue with white frubbles frog.

"We have the Kalos starters here. Chespin, the grass type that typically have a relaxed and shy demeanor. The fire type, Fenniken, a high strung, yet loyal pokémon with alert sensibilities. Finally we have Froakie, the water type, this frog is dedicated to its power and will abandon its own trainer if they feel they can't grow from their companionship." Clavell explains the Pokémon as they stand right to left facing the young pair of trainers.

"Wow! They're all cute! Which one do you think you'll pick?" Maria asks. "Fennekin is super adorable!"

Sabre looks over the 3 choices, seeing how Fennekin is cute, but she's frail. He gives Chespin a look and while sturdy, the chipmunk is also on the slower side. He locks eyes with Froakie, the frog has more than bubbles on his back he's got all that potential with the look those 2 share is enough to make up the young trainers mind. "I choose you, Froakie." He pointed to the water type before looking at the director. "Is that okay?" He asked politely as Froakie jumped up to his new trainer's shoulder.

"So Eevee, Corvisquire and Froakie are your team for battle studies? Your first few lessons you should be good but you'll need to catch 1 or 2 more in your free time." Clavell advises. "Also if you like strong battle rivals, you should say hello to Nemona, our class president, a 3rd year student who has already obtained the champion rank, which is 1 in every 1000 students, and manages it in their 2nd or 3rd year. She did it her 1st year here, won student council in her 2nd and her 3rd she's looking to find a new challenge, I think you 2 will get along. Every end of term we have a tournament with gym leaders, school staff, elite 4, champion ranks, and any student with 8 badges in the Paldea League." Clavell smiles. "The highest scoring 8 badge trainer has the first right to the champion assessment."

"I'll be a champion by the end of this term." Sabre vows to himself as he runs to where Clavell directed to meet his new rival.

He ran towards a very large house, basically a small mansion. He could hear a battle going on, he went through the gate and followed the front path to the right turn to the beach, where a taller 14 year old girl was battling using a Pawmi, Florgatito, and a paldean Tauros with the first 2 pokémon teaming up against the charging bull.

Pawmi uses Spark and Florgatito uses Razor Leaf at the black bull using Wild Charge. The leaves were basically breaking against the bull's lightning clad momentum. Spark and Wild Charge were clashing in the middle, the small pokémon showed his power off with his opponent not letting up. Tauros is knocked onto his side while Pawmi lands on all 4s making the next move of a Quick Attack to the bull's belly, finishing the battle. "Good work fellas!" Nemona says to her pokémon.

"Your pokémon are all really strong!" Sabre smiles at her, "I'm Sabre, Director Clavell told me you'd probably say yest a battle." He smiled until he saw the intensity that presented from Nemona.

"Okay! 3 on 3 no substitutions!" She says as she heals up Tauros and the rest before returning them and sending out Florgatito first. "First move is yours!"

Looking over Froakie's stats he decides to send out the frog for their first battle. "Go! Froakie! Aerial Ace!" The frog speeds forward, striking the foe with an extremely powerful flying type attack.

"Florgatito use Razor Leaf!" Froakie is knocked back by the flurry of leaves but not overly hurt. "Huh?" She observed something was different.

"Use Ice Punch!" Again the powerful ice attack lands with Florgatito taking a major hit again.

"I think I get it… Florgatito use Low Sweep!" The acrobatic cat slides over sweeping Froakie who takes a nasty amount of damage from it before her Water Pledge would hit Florgatito hard but not as hard as the half dozen exploding seeds from Seed Bomb that blasts Froakie out of the battle. "Yeah, that Froakie has Protean. She'll change his type with each move he uses. It's a rare ability to be happy. Did Clavell gift herto you?" She inquired.

"Yes he did." Sabre replied as he returns Froakie with his next being Corvisquire.

Nemona swaps out for Tauros. "Go use Swords Dance!" Tauros stomped around to boost his attack. "Now Wild Charge." As the bull runs at Corvisquire who avoids the attack and uses Drill Peck after Tauros had the electric cloak wear off before driving its beak into the fighting type's back, finishing the battle in a single hit. "You're not some push over." Nemona says with a flirty smile, sending out Pawmi.

"Have a good rest Corvisquire, great job." Sabre returns his pokémon, sending out his last one, Eevee.

Nemona sends out Pawmi, "Last battle, whoever wins this wins the whole match." She says, "Go use Spark!" Pawmi lights up before jumping at Eevee with an electrically charged tackle style attack.

"Dodge it with Dig Eevee!" Sabre orders the fox to burrow into the ground, avoiding the Spark, leaving Pawmi to look around before getting uppercutted by Eevee's underground strike. "Follow up with Shadow Ball!" Eevee sends a purple orb at Pawmi that blows up on impact.

Pawmi got up and used Quick Attack, which after landing a weak blow Eevee stood firm and used Swift to send a star flurry at the electric rodent. "Pawmi go use Spark again!"

"Eevee it's time!" Eevee begins glowing gold. "Last Resort!" Eevee released a powerful gold energy blast at Pawmi who was overwhelmed by the force of the attack rushing over its little squishy body, ending the battle.

"That was awesome! Who are you?" Nemona asked.

"I'm a new transfer student. I was invited after I won a double battle tournament with Corvisquire and Eevee." He explained, as they returned their pokémon.

"Wow! That won't be the last time we battle." She smiles, as she looks over to see Maria and Director Clavell. Nemona ran up to Clavell.

"You were supposed to tell me when any strong battle students came to the school!" Nemona said aggressively.

"My apologies Ms Nemona, can I offer one of the Kalos starters I just gifted Mr. Crimson here?" She nods allowing that as an apology.

He shows off Fennekin and Chespin, which Nemona almost immediately chooses Fennekin, "You're such a cute little fire type!" She looks at the dejected Chespin, who still looks sad.

Sabre looks at the sad pokémon, "You know Director. I am an experienced trainer, who's used to raising 2 pokémon simultaneously, so if it's okay do you think I could take this little guy on my team?" He looks at the smiling grass type.

"Actually we have the results of the midterms tomorrow and the highest score of the senior 6th year class will get him." Clavell explains which leaves both pokémon and trainer saddened but reassured.

"Nemona, would you do me a favor and assist Maria in helping our newest student get to his dorm room?" The Director asked her, she nodded to agree. "Right then. I'll see you 3 later." Clavell bidded farewell to the 3 students.

"So let's go to the dorm, after you catch a pokémon." Nemona tells Sabre, like a challenge.

"Okay, sounds good." He smiles, accepting it, he runs up to the main path outside of Nemona's garden gate. He decides to send out all of his pokémon to go for a run with him, Eevee runs alongside Sabre, with Corvisquire keeping 2-3 feet above him, and Froakie hoping ahead of all of them. He spots a small bug type, a grasshopper pokémon, Nymble. He pulled out a pokémon in an attempt to battle it, Maria and Nemona both looked ahead to see him in battle using Froakie's Aerial Ace as a sure hit.

"He's definitely not the type to stop." Nemona says, impressed with her new rival letting out an affectionate smile.

"Yeah not really," Maria responded, Nemona was the only other one to pass the starter pokémon test that time and she chose the Sprigatito before she could. She was happy to see the pokémon thriving.

She sees a Pichu walking around with a curious look on its face. "Aweeee!" Maria sends a poké ball flying at the pokémon, the red and white ball shaking 3 times before the mouse pops out and got mad. Maria sends out Singacoco, "Go use Round!" The chubby croc pokémon sang as the tune was carried to damage the electric type with the sound waves. "Let's try this again, use Bite to throw it in the air!" She called out as she readied her poké ball for Pichu. "Go!" She tossed the ball to meet with Pichu on its descent, critically capturing the yellow mouse with a single shake. "Good job Singacoco!" She returns to her happy little croc friend. "Welcome to our team Pi-chii!" She smiled at the poké ball as she picked up her capture.

"Pi-chii?" Nemona asked Maria, "You nickname your pokémon?"

"It helps make us different from streamers." The future contest idol explains. "I figured it was just peachy I got this beautiful girl." She says happily.

"Oh that's cool. Since you've caught a 3rd pokémon how about we have a 3v3 like I did with Sabre?" Nemona asked with that battle-crazed look in her eyes.

"Um, how about later, like in a few days after we get some experience?" Maria suggested. Nemona is kinda deflated by the wait for a battle. Maria giggled at her seniors state, when a loud crash could be heard when Sabre and a large chunk of the approximate area his pokémon and himself would be standing was smashed up, with a sizeable chunk of the cliff where they ran to look over where they see something unbelievable at the luckily soft sand beach landing of the bottom of the 125 foot drop.

Chapter End

(Yes I know Protean received that nerf in gen 9 but I don't care.)
