Chapter1: A thriving September
My name is Rebecca Bakers, I am in my fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry now. A new year with new beginnings, this always a repetitive circle for us, we want to show our bests, just like I want it too. Although I have harder times with this new term new me's because I have some dreams that always will be dreams. I am fighting against severe diabetes so school food is a horrible period of my life, since I have to be careful with what I take into my body. I have to watch my insulin level most of the time, and this diet goes on my nerves every now and then.
Without my supportive family and my best friends whom I got familiar with in my first years at Hogwarts, I'd never been on track. I have to admit I am pretty lucky on this, and they stand out for me when bullies pick up on me because of my "strange eating habits". I won't lie, I feel left out most of the time, when I see how rich my friends can eat.
My mum packed me food specially prepped for my conditions, so I don't have to worry when my friends order something from the food trolley.
"So, how was the summer?" asked our classmate, Trudy, who read the Morning Prophet's newest version, leaning back on her seat. Sometimes we have to warn her to put her legs down from the opposite seats; it is not polite to do this. But she solved it just to silence us with taking her shoes off. Crazy girl, believe me, but we love her anyways.
"We went to London, it was amazing!" I have to cover my ears as Katherine raised her voice in enthusiasm. She tends to speak loudly when excitement takes over her, and it can be annoying, occasionally, until you spend so much time with her that you become numb to it.
Katherine talked about how she loved the trip to the Diagon Ally, and to see the London Eye. She chats about now how she desires about moving to London when she finishes school, this is her favorite city, and adores the life in it. Honestly? I disagree, but won't put down her goals, if this fits for her ambitions, have no problems, but I love nature and smaller towns, villages better. They are quieter and I can rest, there isn't as much rushing as there, and that is what I long for.
Living in Belfast went on my nerve, and I can't wait the vacation times when we visit my only living grandparent in the countryside. She has an own horse! How cool is that! Her name is Betsy. And she has turkey and chickens at her farm. For me, that is the definition of awesome.
That is why I am glad I was sorted into Hufflepuff, the coziness of our Common Room gives me the vibe of grandma's house and the tea parties we have together while she is watching over my sugar intake.
The Hogwarts Express pounded slowly with us, and when we crossed the Scottish borders, the land changed into wild pinewood-forest and spooky. Yeah, the weather broadcast man promised a heavy rainfall for today, but I am not wondering, it is autumn season, and for me, autumn without rain isn't count as autumn fully.
"And you, Becky?"turn the girls towards me, with questioning eyes, waiting for an interesting story. Feel sorry for having to burst their irrealistic bubbles about my summers.
"As usual, I was at my grandmother's farm. What is so cool about that?"
"Not fair, in your letter you wrote about the four puppies! I want one, and mom let me to have! She hates cats but for dogs she said one can come." begged April. Fine, I'll give in.
"Ok, there is two fully white and two with brown and black spots, three boys and a little girl. Which one you wish for?" I bend back the topic to them; I don't really like talk, especially small talks.
"Hm, the little girl, I want the little girl!"
"Ok, but make sure it won't bring to you several others later" I giggled. Her mom said according to April, that one can come.
"Oh, and before I forget… Henry asked about you. A lot. I mean, a lot…"
"Nope, your brother is not interested in me. Topic is closed, April." I hate it when everything circles around boys, I am not attractive, and don't have a lifestyle where someone would want to life or could thrive in. Who wants to always take care of me, and be constantly alert about my diet?
"Who is not interested in who? " For Merlin's love, why the mentioned Quidditch-Donkey from Gryffindor must come now? April bursts into laughing, so hard, that she rolled down to the cabin's floor. This girl is embarrassing…
"Uhm, hi, Henry." I turn my head to the window, watch as the raindrops create streams and interesting forms on the glass.
"Hey, are you fine, girl?" asked him, not bothering himself to take the last empty seat next to me.
"I told you" gawps April, with a huge grin on her face. I'll kill her one time when she is not aware. She is my roommate anyway. Ok, I am just joking, I'd never hurt my best friends.
"Yeah, totally." Where to escape… just where. Ignore him, Becky, and he won't take anything certainly as a sign of returned interest.
"Has my silly sister chosen a dog?"
"The baby girl. Any name ideas, guys?" I looked at April first, then Henry. Finally something neutral to talk about.
"Well, I want to name her Connie."
"Why not Ginger?"
"For a white puppy it would be interesting" laughs Katherine.
Yeah, the mentioned little darling is full white, and adorable, but all in all, the whole little dog-family is a massive dose of cuteness. I am also a dog person, just like Mrs. Jones. Mrs. Jones is the magical parent from the Jones family, half-blood, and her husband, Mr. Thomas Jones is muggle-born, as my parents.
The only pureblood among us is Katherine, somehow related to the Montague family.
"Ok, than Connie, you won, April. But your Quidditch Poster will be mine…"
"Nope. That is a dedicated one, I won't let it out of my hands." A nice finishing of august with a siblings's soft argument about quidditch. Henry tried to convince me about how good that sport is, but I was extremely afraid of the bludgers, and with my illness it is impossible I'd try the sport. And Henry also brought this up again. He is ambitious about his obsession and thinks everyone should like it around him. Sometimes utterly annoying.
"I'm not asking you to become a superstar, but watch one match, and I'll let you alone with it. Pinky promise!" he begged. I am not giving in, this won't happen.
"Even watching is an ultimate ticket to the graveyard sleeping forever marathon. Nope, I am not into it."
"Stop it already, you're childish, Henry!" Trudy finally had the courage to throw one of her shoes to him, and it had an impression in him.
"Ouch! You crazy, girl!"
"I have a naaame" insulted Trudy the younger brother of April.
"Ok, I have some business with my friends, we'll meet later."
"Or not…"
"April!" he tried to get some respect from his sister, but all of these trials was in vain. April was out and unstoppable. I love this silly band; I love to be the part of it, as they accepted me for who I was. The rather observing, overly insecure one, who is scared of foods and quidditch, that brutal game I hated just as much as Dark Magic.
