1: Muzan
What a shame.
My wife's lifeless body hung loosely from the ceiling. She swung gently as if there were a breeze but in reality the movement was caused by the occasional spasming in her muscles. Her daughter was face down in the corner, a single bullet hole in her temple. This must have just happened as the blood was still fresh.
I suppose it was inevitable. After all, who would want to continue living after finding out their lover was a demon.
It couldn't be helped, they always find out one way or another and it never ends well. I sighed as I began to absorb the evidence. What was this the sixth? Seventh? Did it even matter anymore after all these years?
I didn't care that she had a daughter. I didn't care that she wanted to cheat and spend my money. It didn't matter that I had hand picked her, I just needed someone to keep up appearances. My former wife had not been perfect in any way, and it was actually kind of a blessing because I was growing tired of her games and her temper. She didn't know who she was dealing with, so I stopped being careful. I let my true nature slip and she did with that info what all the others had in the past.
I would need a new wife now.
I don't know why I thought it would be entertaining to court her in the beginning. It had clearly ended in disaster. This time I did not have the energy to woo another woman into a false sense of security so I instead prepared what I thought was a suitable amount of money and headed for the entertainment district.
Surely I could find a wife there. There were all kinds of women who could be bought and this time I decided I would like something a little nicer to look at rather than my former plain Jane of a wife. I was not typically one to get a wife that stood out, but I was just so exhausted from everything else in my life going wrong. It wouldn't kill me to have one nice thing in it.
When I entered the district the streets bustled with life. I had only walked a few feet down the road when I heard several women calling for me from the railings, trying to beckon me to indulge in their bodies.
I had no such interest in them, I only came here for one thing after all. I have walked these streets many times, whether it was business or pleasure, and I have grown familiar with some of the places and the people who resided here.
Today, I was surprised to have spotted a new face.
A young woman, perhaps in her early twenties, sat with her legs tucked under her by the entrance to one of the houses. Her head was down in a submissive position and the intricate braids in her brown hair obscured her face.
Her hands were folded neatly in front of her and if she hadn't tilted her head up when I approached I might've thought she was a statue. Her face was covered in makeup, something I detested, but just behind the collar of her blue and gold kimono I could see a patch of soft pale skin. If I pictured her bare face I could easily imagine that she was quite beautiful. Strange how I've never seen her before.
"Greeting sir," her voice was soft and gentle like the rolling tides. She lifted her head fully to look at me and I saw that she was blind. I had been quiet and the crowd was loud, so it was somewhat impressive that she noticed me. Perhaps she had a special kind of sensitivity to have known I was there.
"Evening miss," I reached out to take her chin in my hand. Her eyes fluttered shut when I touched her and I found that she offered no resistance as I did what I pleased.
A grating voice caught my attention, "Welcome sir to my fine establishment. Are you interested in my lovely Oiran here? She'll cost you a pretty penny for the night." I looked up to see a short, scarred and stocky woman who must not have known what a bath was. She was most likely the owner of the house.
I then looked down at the demure girl and considered my odds. It seemed strange that they would make this blind girl and Oiran, but it was clear that under all those layers of makeup that she was stunning. I weighed my options of finding another, but I found that she would work best in my favor.
Her beauty might turn a few heads, but no one would bat an eye at her husband dutifully taking care of her.
I turned towards the woman again, "How much for her."
"180,000 yen for the night sir."
"No. I would like to take her as my bride. How much."
The woman's eyebrows raised, "Goodness well, she's a bit of a handful. I don't know if you want her."
I glanced over at the Oiran, "I doubt she'd put up much of a fuss. I would like to pay off her debts and have her as my wife so are you going to give me a price or not?" My eyes narrowed, this woman was getting on my last nerve.
"I'm afraid this one is not for sale. She makes a great profit for the house so I'd hate to lose her," she fake pouted, "but you can still have her for the night."
Her answer annoyed me. I was about ready to rip that woman's head off, but I did not want to cause a scene so instead I grit my teeth and said never mind. The owner turned away and I was about to do the same but something grabbing my jacket stopped me.
I looked down to see the blind Oiran looking up at me with a soft smile playing on her plush lips. She gestured for me to come closer. Curious, I decided to play along.
"I can sense your aura. It is incredibly strong. Perhaps this is asking too much, but I would be delighted to run away with you. If you'll still have me."
She looked into my eyes and it was as if she could see me. The accuracy was a bit disturbing, it was almost as if she were staring straight into what was left of my soul. She did mention something about my aura and I could only wonder what she saw. Her eyes were big and they reminded of the smooth gray stones one might find at the bottom of the river.
I couldn't help but wonder why she would offer me such a thing, but as her arm came out of her sleeve more I caught a glimpse of small circles along her wrist. The sight made me scowl. Who would dare maul such pretty porcelain skin.
I knelt down to whisper into her ear, "Do you hate it here that much?"
"Yes sir, I would do anything to leave."
Her quiet, resigned voice sparked something inside me that I hadn't felt in a long time. Her hand touched mine and she squeezed it gently. Her soul was so gentle and being this close I could smell her blood pumping through her veins. She was excited. I made her excited.
"If I took you away and gave you a better life, will you submit to me? Will you bend to my every whim and take orders without even a thought or a question?"
"Yes sir."
"I need a better answer." I was testing her. She was a smart girl and if she was willing to do anything, then I would make sure she lived up to that promise.
She pursed her lips in thought. Then, with a blush and a deep bow she answered, "Yes master." I couldn't help the smirk that formed on my face at her response. I haven't had someone as obedient as her before, not even Daki was this subservient. We'll see how long this one will last.
"Then I will save you."
When I looked up I noticed the house master staring at me with narrowed eyes. From the shadows I could see a small orange light between her fingers. She blew out a puff of smoke angrily and the two young strongmen at her side looked ready to throw me out. I laughed inwardly at the thought of them even thinking they could touch me.
I quickly disappeared into the crowd, but found myself looking back at my future wife. As I moved her eyes followed me and only me. I found her trusting nature amusing, her innocence was sweet. I knew the kind of things that went on in those houses, and it disgusted me. For her to stay shining through it all was admirable.
While I was here I figured I would go pay my upper six a visit. I wanted to know if she had any knowledge of the blind Oiran as she had piqued my interest. I waited in the balcony level of the abandoned building where I knew Daki hunted. I could feel her presence close by and sure enough she came in through the open window a few moments after my arrival.
"Lord Muzan!" She greeted me with her usual deep bow. A blush spread across her milky skin.
"Daki, you are lovely as always. I've come here for some information."
I patted my leg and she took that as her cue to come closer. She practically purred with her head in my lap as I brushed my fingers through her hair. She was too easy to manipulate. She craved my attention like she would die without it, but if it kept her in line then I was happy to spare just enough to keep her wanting more.
"Of course Lord Muzan. I'll tell you whatever you'd like to know."
"I want you to tell me about an Oiran in a neighboring house. A blind girl with a blue and gold kimono."
Daki shifted into my touch, "Of course. She's been here her whole life. I think she was born into that house. She's never been an Oiran before, but she recently got promoted when I ate the last one. They only chose her because none of the other girls could compare," Daki's giggle irritated me but I didn't interrupt, "I've been told she's a gorgeous woman under all that nasty makeup her house master puts on her. Had she not been blind I would've loved to eat her up."
"How is she treated in that house."
Daki hummed in thought, "Her house master abuses her girls terribly. Sometimes when I walk the roofs I see her beating someone through the window, so I'm sure she's no exception."
"And her name?"
Daki froze. She looked up at me nervously and chewed her bottom lip, "I- I think it might be Aoi, Lord Muzan. I apologize I didn't know she would be of any interest to you."
I gently shushed her when I held my finger up, "It's a recent interest. She was able to look directly at me. She said she could sense my aura."
Daki nodded enthusiastically as she seemed to have information on that, "Yes Lord Muzan. Yes I remember hearing that she has a strong gift for reading people, but I haven't been able to test it myself."
I ran my fingers through Daki's long hair one more time before making a move to stand, "Thank you Daki. You have helped me immensely."
The tint on her cheeks was deep and she leaned into my hand heavily when I held her face. I knew she didn't want me to go but I was growing tired of her useless affections and I left quickly. I had gotten what I needed.
I walked along the rooftops for a while, not entirely sure where I was headed, until I found myself standing across the house where Aoi lived. I looked into the windows and I found her with ease. As if she could sense me, her head turned towards my direction and I admired the way she seemed to be completely focused on me.
I hated to admit it, but even while being fucked by some subpar man, even with that broken and faraway look on her face, she was easily one of the most beautiful human beings I had ever laid my eyes on. Her looks would compliment my own quite nicely.
Then, the man above her slapped her. It was sudden and uncalled for and it made my blood boiled at the sight. How dare such a vile, low life creature even think about touching what was mine. Before I could stop myself I was inside the room, ripping his head off with great pleasure.
It was not like me to cause ripples like this. Surely someone would notice if Aoi and this man went missing. It was an incredibly risky move and I knew it but my need to own this woman was greater than I anticipated. She would be mine, I didn't care if this made her change her mind. She had already cemented her fate the moment she reached for me.
When I looked down at Aoi's pale naked body, I hated to admit that she looked positively enchanting speckled in blood like that. Like a living stained glass window.
She smiled when she recognized my aura, "You came back."
I threw the pieces of the man to the side, "I said I would save you, didn't I?"
"Thank you master."
Good. She hadn't forgotten. I scooped her up into my arms and in a flash took control of Nakime to teleport me to my second home on the outskirts of the city far, far away from the entertainment district.
I was sure she had to suspect something was a bit strange with me, but if she was smart she wouldn't question it. I was sure it couldn't last forever as she was blind not dumb, but as far as I was concerned she would never have to know the truth. I intended to keep it that way.
I brought her into the bathroom and ordered for her to bathe. She needed to wash the stench of that other human off of her. She reeked of seaman and sweat and I refused to let that smell linger in my home.
While she cleaned up I riffled through one of the closets of an even older wife. One who had been petite and roughly Aoi's size. I decided I enjoyed the blue and gold theme on her and it took me a while but I eventually found the one I had been looking for. I was placing it on the bed just as she exited the bathroom.
When she sensed my presence she dropped to her knees and bowed, "Hello master. How may I serve you?"
"Rise," she did so. Her body was still wet and glistening from the bath. The sight stirred something from deep within me, "I brought you a fresh outfit. Are you hungry?"
"No master."
I raised an eyebrow. I could hear her stomach rumbling but she stuck by her answer. I took her by the wrist and threw her over my knee. She yelped in surprise but screamed when I smacked her bare ass several times with a hard flat hand.
She would need to learn sooner rather than later that I didn't give out warnings or second chances. If she wanted to lie to me that was her choice but that I would not be happy with it, and that if she continued to do it then this is what she had to look forward to.
When I finished she was out of breath and sobbing. I weaved my fingers into her hair and tilted her head up until she was looking straight into my eyes, "You do not lie to me. Ever. I can hear your stomach rumbling from a mile away. Since this is your first offense I went easy on you. But if I catch you lying to me again your punishment will be much, much worse. Understood?"
Her voice came out in a broken sob, "Yes master. Yes I understand I'm sorry. I didn't want to be a burden to you."
"Save it little wife. You do not lie to me. About anything. You are of no use to me if you're dead. Now, are you hungry?"
She sniffed as I put her back on her feet. Her body was bony and trembling and I got a good look at her slender frame as it was currently out in the open, There were no lights on since I could see in the dark and she was blind, but a few slivers of moonlight peeked through the blinds to highlight her snowy skin.
It illuminated her in a way that made her look ghostly but I found the sight pleasing. The only thing I couldn't see was her face as it was buried in her hands, and that was the thing I wanted to see the most without all the makeup.
Her hair, now that it was down, was long. Perhaps longer than Kokushibo's. It was mostly straight except for at the bottom where it started to curl in small gentle ringlets.
I took her hands away and I was right when I knew she was one of a kind. Her soft features made her look like a lovely little flower in that delicate, yet withering from not enough sun kind of way. Her hair hung around her face like a velvet curtain. The tears running down her cheeks didn't suit her and I wiped them away.
She still hadn't answered me so I squeezed her wrist as a warning.
"Yes master," she finally spit out, "I would be grateful if you fed me."
I smirked and patted her head, "That's a good wife. Now get dressed and I will bring you downstairs."
