Bowsette: A New Life
Chapter 48
Not a morning Koopa
It had been a few days since Mario left and Bowsette had started protecting Toad Town. This day Bowsette woke up and stumbled half asleep out of the Toad House she had been sleeping in. The skies had been clear most of yesterday and right now, and Town Town was free of assault by the creatures for the time being. It was nice to get a full night of sleep for a change. Bowsette yawned widely and walked slowly and tiredly down towards the castle.
"Ummm…" A Toad looked up as a large but thin shadowy figure loomed over him and groaned at him. "Oh no! It's one of them again!" The Toad shouted. "Don't hurt me!" The Toad stood there and shivered as a guard made his way over to fight it. "Wait…" The guard sounded confused. The shadow scratched its butt and yawned. "That's just uh… just… Bowsette." The guard noted as he got a better look at her.
"That's just as bad!" The Toad complained though he calmed down a bit. "Coffeeee… Need coffee now..." Bowsette grumbled as she turned and continued at a snail's pace towards the castle. 'A cup of joe and enough meat to feed half of Toad Town… that sounds really good right now.' Bowsette thought with what few brain cells were firing at the moment.
Bowsette slammed the castle double doors open. "I'm hungry!" Bowsette yelled irritably to everyone in earshot. "Coffee and food!" Bowsette shouted. Bowsette noticed the Toads inside were just standing there and staring at her and scowled. "I said… coffee…" Bowsette growled menacingly. "and food… NOW!" Bowsette roared loudly.
'Well, that's more like it.' Kamek thought gladly watching the scene unfold. He would fulfill her orders himself if he wasn't wheelchair bound still, but he needed not worry it seemed. The Toads shrieked in fright at his mistress' roar and made their way to the kitchen to get her something. If she was home, she would've had a servant with a full course and enough caffeine to kill anyone else standing there waiting as she exited her bedroom every morning. Heads would roll on the days the usual servant was a touch too slow or had a replacement that was less competent.
Kamek for his part always knew better than to go anywhere near the woman until after breakfast and wouldn't unless she specifically asked for him, especially when she was THIS tired. Kamek had been spending the last few days examining the creatures Bowsette had brought back. Most were people who were infected, but Kamek had managed to set up a magical trap just outside the wards to catch a raw specimen yesterday with Bowsette's help. He was ready to report his results when the Queen was in a more hospitable mood.
Bowsette's eyes were mostly closed and she yawned, dozing for several minutes. Then her keen nose picked up the smell of something cooking and she lazily headed toward the kitchen. "Fooooooood…" Bowsette casually smacked the door open and let her nose guide her to the stove. She pushed aside the Toad cooking some sort of Lil Oink soup and dove her face directly into the pot. It would scald a normal person, but for a woman that could bathe in lava it was hardly even lukewarm. Bowsette slurped up the soup right out of the pot without bothering to so much as use a spoon. 'Okay… that must be the King Bowser in her…' Kamek could only watch dumbfounded as Bowsette picked up the large pot of soup and drank it down in seconds.
"Ahh… that's better." Feeling a bit refreshed as she pulled her head out of the soup, Bowsette looked around. "Huh? Where am I?" Most of the Toads that had been in the kitchen had beat a hasty retreat as Bowsette barged in. It took her a minute to realize that she was in the Peach castle kitchen. 'Okay think Bowsette think. Just be polite and smile, yeah, that'll do it.' Bowsette considered. "Oh hello." Bowsette said sweetly yet tiredly to the Toad that was preparing the soup and grinned showing her razor-sharp teeth, which was a lot fiercer looking than she intended. "Can I please get some coffee?" Bowsette asked.
"Um… okay?" The Toad said nervously and moved to check the pot that was already brewing. 'And she's right back to acting like that…' Kamek shivered at the sight. "Thank you uh… what was your name again?" Bowsette asked as the Toad passed her the coffee pot. Naturally, she drank straight out of the pot.
"Todd." The Toad answered shakily. He was a Toad with a blue cap but otherwise looked like a hundred others. "Ah, right… Thank you Todd. You're a good cook." As the caffeine flooded through her system Bowsette finally really woke up and noticed her dress was covered in spilled soup and coffee. Bowsette was about to shrug it off when she thought back to Mario holding her in his arms back in the sewers and flushed with embarrassment.
Bowsette hadn't much to do the last couple days except fight off the creatures and think. Once she finally had time to sit down and think, despite her best efforts he kept intruding into her head. Especially Mario holding her in the sewers before she passed out, or Mario holding her hand as Bowser in the infirmary. Once it had started, Bowsette had a hard time focusing on anything else. Bowsette started at the sight of herself. "I look terrible! I'm sorry!" Bowsette said panicked. 'I should get changed. Imagine if Mario got back and saw me like this! He'd think I was hideous and then wouldn't look at me anymore.' Bowsette panicked and rushed out of the kitchen back to the Toad House. 'Well, at least I didn't walk out of the Toad House in my underwear like yesterday.' Bowsette noted. 'Though Mario probably would've liked that view.'
Between the shapeshifting episodes and the near constant fighting off the creatures late into the night, Bowsette had been running herself ragged the past week. She hadn't been able to sleep much, and she'd been plagued by nightmares of that other Bowser when she did. Bowsette hadn't had any nightmares of Junior lately thankfully, instead they were usually of Dark Bowser attacking Kamek and… much more often, Mario.
Yesterday morning had been much the same, Bowsette had barged into some random Toad's house demanding food and coffee which were fearfully given. After the owner caved to her demands and she got what she needed, Bowsette came out of her half-awake coma, apologized, made herself presentable after some understandable embarrassment, and got back to protecting the town. The Toads were lucky that Bowsette was trying hard not to disappoint Mario in that situation, or she might have freaked out and burned them alive. That episode was why she decided to wear a dress to bed last night instead of her lingerie, or worse, going nude like she usually did.
As soon as she left the castle, a familiar voice called out to Bowsette. "Hi Queen Bowsette!" The little Toad boy was her shadow since the other day. "Hey kid. Still lifting weights?" Bowsette asked as she walked back to the Toad house. "Uh huh! I'm betting you're wrong." The Toad boy said. "About what?" Bowsette asked puzzled. "I bet I can be as strong as you!" Bowsette chuckled. "Keep dreaming kid. Not even Mario could bench as much as me."
"I will." The boy smiled at her. "Oh really? Well… why don't you start with this?" Bowsette smirked and picked up a small but still heavy box of supplies as the two passed like it was a feather. "Carry this around all day and give me the stuff inside when I ask." Bowsette plopped it in front of the kid, and he just managed to lift it and brace it against his head. "Don't fall behind either!"
The kid struggled but managed to hold the box while following the woman as Bowsette went back to the Toad House. "So black or red today?" Bowsette asked herself as she went inside and locked the door. The dresses were holding up well despite what Bowsette was putting them through. 'I'll have to see if I can hire the tailor to work for me.' Bowsette noted as she undressed and changed.
As she changed her underwear thoughts of Mario rose again, and she was losing the battle to dismiss them with each passing day. 'Alright I admit it.' Bowsette huffed to herself. 'He really is handsome and kind and noble and… oh fuck what have I been fighting this for?' Bowsette questioned herself. "Red. Mario will like that." Bowsette threw on the dress, and blushed imagining what Mario would say when he got back. 'If I asked, he'd say I was beautiful no matter what, he's nice like that.' Bowsette noted as she gussied herself up in the mirror. But would he mean it? I look so ugly right now… no, I was always ugly.' Far from the truth, Bowsette was gorgeous even when she had been badly weakened from being in pain for days, but the doubts kept entering her head.
She couldn't be certain, but Bowsette guessed Mario was off at her kingdom fighting the things to protect it. Mario had been gone quite a bit longer than he would have needed to in order to get to her castle, grab what Kamek wanted, and come back. 'And now he's out there trying to help me and my kingdom. I should thank him when he gets back, and this is all over.'
How she was going to make it up to Mario was another question. 'I could just take him somewhere private…' Bowsette was blushing beet red now as scenarios ran through her head. 'Ooh yeah… that would be nice… but that's more for me rather than him, isn't it?' Bowsette thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. "Queen Bowsette? Are you okay in there?" The Toad boy said through the door. "Coming!"
Bowsette opened the door and looked at the kid, still holding the heavy box above his head. "You know, you could've put it down. You didn't have to hold that thing the whole time I was in there." Bowsette rolled her eyes. The Toad boy dropped it at his feet. "I gotta… I gotta…" Bowsette sat down on the Toad House steps as the boy tried to regain his breath. "Easy there kid. Overworking yourself is worse than not exercising at all." Bowsette picked up the box with ease. "It just has some mushrooms in here for the fighting later."
"Mushrooms!? Yuck!" Bowsette chuckles at that. "A Toad that doesn't like Mushrooms… now I've seen everything." Bowsette grabs one of the mushrooms and gives it to the boy. "Bon appetite." The boy reluctantly eats it. "Woah!" The boy hops up and smirks. "Mushrooms perk me up, but they taste TERRIBLE!" The Toad boy takes the box away before Bowsette can stop him. "Kid, you don't listen good, do you?" Having said that Bowsette can't help but smile. "Come on, let's get to work." Bowsette goes back to checking each of the blockades, another day, another…
"Huh?" Bowsette notices the clouds hadn't gathered since she woke up. "Maybe this is finally coming to an en…" Before Bowsette can even finish the sentence, the sky darkens. "Of course…" Bowsette sighs and gets ready for another looooooong day. If Mario didn't get back soon Bowsette was going to go stir crazy being stuck in this town.
