El stared out the window, preparing.
Preparing to see the man she thought was long dead.
The man she hated.
After agreeing to see 'Project Nina' as Owens explained it, the two of them started the drive to the compound.
It was a very silent drive.
Once arriving at the compound, Owens escorted El through the doors, down an elevator, and along a hallway.
Reaching the end, El observed a large tank.
Loud footsteps interrupted El's thought process.
Looking towards the stairs, El saw a man in an suit, with more wrinkles then before, and bright white hair.
Papa.
Reaching the bottom of the stairs, Papa stared at El.
She stared back.
Finally, El tore her eyes from the man, focusing on a screw that was on the tank.
The silence was overbearing, being broken by the voice of Martin Brenner.
"Hello Eleven," he spoke. "It's good to see you."
That's it.
El twirled around, facing Owens.
"I'm not doing this." she stated harshly and started for the elevator.
"Eleven." Owens grabbed her arm. "Remember what we talked about. This is for your friends. To save them."
El and Owens stared at each other for some time, El contemplating her choices.
"We don't have much time, Eleven." Brenner stated, clearly not reading the room like a normal person. But of course, Martin Brenner was no normal person.
El closed her eyes.
"You did not seem surprised to see me." Brenner kept going. "I realize that if you didn't know, it would come as quite a shock. I'm glad that you were told. And I'm glad that, even when you were told, you still came. Because you wanted to save your friends. This is for them."
Keeping her eyes closed, El weighed her options. Standing straighter, she opened her eyes and nodded.
Owens gave her a reassuring smile before getting whisked away by a fellow scientist.
El turned and faced Brenner, not quiet looking him in the eye.
"You won't regret this El." he told her. "You can help your friends."
El grinded her teeth, already regretting her decision.
"Now, this way to get ready." Brenner led the way, down another hallway, into a room with a chair in the middle of it.
Brenner gestured for El to sit.
The girl hesitantly lowered herself into the chair. She waited for a minute, all senses on high alert.
The door opened and in walked a man. Brenner nodded at him, and he picked up some scissors
El's eye's widened, looking back to Brenner.
"We need to do this, to be able to access your brain waves." he explained.
El looked down and sat still, running her hand through her long hair.
The hair that took a long time to grow.
"I'm sorry, Eleven. But we need to do this."
Eleven nodded.
There were no mirrors, but a long metal strip running along the wall, making it able to see her reflection.
So, El forced back tears as she saw a hazy version of herself loose all of her hair, turning back into a science experiment.
But it was worth it.
It was to save her friends.
So, it was worth it.
Right?
