Chapter 15

The trees were now bare skeletons, and the setting autumn sun cast them in a blood-red glow as — after nearly seven months — Ayron mounted his horse and turned toward home. But he left Lantern Waste in good hands. The two Ranger stations had been built surprisingly quickly, and Emlyn and Terrel stayed behind to man them, as well as to keep a watchful eye on the outlaws' activities.

To some it may have seemed that the struggle to keep the unlawful activity was in check was over, but the Narnian Rangers knew it was only just beginning.

A few weeks after Ayron's return home, he and Lily were standing outside on the verandah and enjoying the autumn air as the sun set in a blaze of red-gold. Lily was holding a small, well-wrapped bundle — their newborn son — in her arms.

Despite all the troubles that surely lay ahead, Ayron could not have felt happier than here in the presence of his family.


I know this might not have been the ending you were expecting, but I have my reasons for dragging this out...and I think it makes the story more interesting.
