Chapter 9
Sun woke up early the next day and set to making sure everything was clean and ready. He saw a couple new security guards and they had security wands. There was even some metal detectors at the entrance too. "Wow, that was fast," he said.
One guard turned to him. "Oh, you must be Sun," he said.
The other guard, a female, turned too. "Oh, hey, Sun," she said, smiling. "Don't worry, we'll make sure no smoke bombs get in here today."
"Thank you," he said. "That gave the children quite a scare yesterday."
The female guard nodded. "My nephew was affected yesterday by the smoke as he has asthma."
Sun remembered the boy that Moon had quickly gotten to the Daycare doors to get him outside and away from the smoke. "How is he doing?" He asked.
"Doing a lot better," she said, smiling. "He said you and Moon were superheroes yesterday and he wants to make capes for you two."
"Aww! That's sweet of him," the animatronic said. "Please tell him we send our best wishes."
"I will."
Sun headed back into the Daycare and set to getting out some craft supplies out, deciding to have the kids make masks that day.
Upstairs in the Daycare Animatronics' living area, Katie woke up and managed to climb out of her crib, crawling over to Moon's bed, seeing he was still asleep. The baby looked up at him and grabbed onto the blankets, climbing up, succeeding on the first try without waking Moon. She then crawled up so that she was near his head and saw the bell on the end of his hat. Curious, she grabbed it, hearing it make a sound. She moved her hand and the bell made a sound again.
A chuckle surprised her and she turned to see Moon was watching her with a smile. "Good morning, Starlight," he said, picking her up as he sat up in bed, seeing the child was holding onto the bell at the end of his hat. "You like that bell, huh?"
She looked up at him and gave it to him, to which he took it and gently shook it, the sound being different. Her eyes widened with wonder and he chuckled. "We might have to look into getting you a hat like mine," he said. "Or maybe a headband with rays like Sun."
"MOON!" Sun cried out, making the nighttime animatronic jump and the baby jumped too, whimpering. Moon cradled her comfortingly and shushed her before calling out to his brother.
"Sun? What's going on?" He called out.
The daytime animatronic rushed in, looking frantic before he froze, seeing Katie was with his brother and he sighed in relief. "Oh, my goodness," he said, slumping over in relief.
Moon blinked. "Wait...you didn't bring Katie in here to wake me up?" He asked.
"No, I didn't," Sun said. "I checked on her before I went to see if everything was ready in the Daycare and she was still asleep."
The nighttime animatronic looked down at the child before chuckling. "Well, well, looks like our little Starlight is getting good at climbing," he said. "She must have climbed out of her crib."
The daytime animatronic chuckled in relief before going up to them, playfully booping Katie's nose. "You little rascal! Scaring your big brother like that!" He scolded her, but his voice held no heat, which told Moon that his counterpart wasn't really mad at the child.
Katie giggled, knowing her big brother wasn't upset at her. "Still, we may want to consider putting up a baby gate on her door," Moon said, feeling concerned. "What if she had crawled out to the balcony and fallen into the ballpit? That's too high of a fall for a child her size."
Sun looked horrified at that thought. "You're right," he said. "Okay, I'll put in the request to Miss Scarlet."
Just then, the screen where they got calls flashed and Sun answered it, finding it to be the very same security guard he had just mentioned. "Oh, good morning, Miss Scarlet!" He said cheerfully.
"Good morning, Sun," she said. "Sorry to call so early, but I have something for you and Moon. Well, it's actually for Katie."
"What is it?" Moon asked.
Scarlet held up a baby gate. "My sister's kids just turned five years old and got their new beds, so my sister asked me if I knew anyone who needed a baby gate as she no longer needs it and I thought of you two."
"You must be a mind reader, Miss Scarlet," Sun said. "Moon had just suggested a baby gate for Katie because she gave us a bit of a scare this morning."
The lady smiled. "Climbed out of her crib?" She asked gently.
"Yes," Moon said, getting up and bringing Katie over. "We're worried that she might crawl to the balcony and fall."
Scarlet nodded. "I'll stop by right now and drop it off," she said.
"Thank you," Sun said gratefully.
A few moments later, a knock came to the door and Moon handed Katie to Sun and headed down into the Daycare, seeing Scarlet and motioning her in. She smiled and gave him the baby gate, along with a small bag. "I saw this and thought of Katie. I hope she likes it."
"Thank you, Miss Scarlet," he said with a smile. "Sun and I really appreciate how you and Miss Mikalea have been so considerate of Katie."
"You're welcome," she said. "She and I both have little ones in our families and we're protective of them, so we know where you two are coming from."
Sun came down with Katie and the baby clung to him as she saw Miss Scarlet. "Hi, sweetie," the lady said sweetly, making no move to try and hold the baby. "I'm just dropping a few things off for you and your big brothers."
Moon looked in the bag and he smiled. "Wait, Miss Scarlet," he said. "I think this gift would mean more if you gave it to Katie."
She blinked. "Are you sure?" She asked.
He nodded and opened the bag. "Katie, there's something special in this bag for you," he said, smiling. "Miss Scarlet found it for you."
The lady reached into the bag and pulled out a cute fox plush that had red fur and it wore a cape with suns, moons, and stars on it. "I made the cape to go with it," she said before looking at the baby and gently handing the plush to the child.
Katie looked at the plush before looking up at Miss Scarlet, who smiled. "You have have it, sweetie. It's yours," she said.
But the baby wouldn't take it, yet Scarlet wasn't offended. "Sun, how about I give it to you and you give it to her?" She suggested. "Maybe if she sees her big brother holding it, she won't be so nervous about accepting it."
Sun smiled as he realized what the security guard was doing. "Okay," he said, accepting the plush and then looking at Katie. "Look at the cute fox, Katie."
The child looked at the toy before looking up at her brother, who smiled and nodded. "It's okay," he said encouragingly.
Katie reached for the plush and Sun gave it to her. Feeling its soft fur, the baby snuggled her face against the plush, hugging it tightly. "Looks like she likes it," Moon said.
Scarlet looked relieved. "I was a bit worried I might be overstepping by giving her a gift, seeing as she's still nervous about me," she said.
"True, but you kept her feelings in mind and that was a good idea to have Sun act as the middle person to give our sister her gift. It could help her to see that you are different than the humans that hurt her."
Sun nodded. "It's a good step in the right direction," he said.
Katie looked at Scarlet before looking at the plush and hugging it again, making the lady smile again. "I'm glad you like it, sweetie," she said.
A knock at the door made them turn and Scarlet answered it, making sure Sun and Moon were hidden from sight. "Sorry to bug, Scarlet, but we've got a line of kids ready to come in," the new male guard said.
"Okay, I'll be right there," she said.
She turned to the two brothers and smiled. "I think Chica is free today," she said.
"I'll go take Katie to her," Moon said with a nod.
Sun smiled and handed Katie to his brother and the nighttime animatronic headed out though the secret tunnels to get the child to Chica. "Thanks for giving Katie such a thoughtful gift, Miss Scarlet," he said.
"You're welcome, Sun," she said as she headed out and Sun got ready for the kids to come in.
Chica was more than happy to watch over Katie, seeing the child had a new plushie and she smiled as Moon told her the story behind it. "Aww, that was so nice of Miss Scarlet," she said.
"Yes," Moon said before gently booping Katie's nose. "Be good for Chica, Starlight. Sun will pick you up later."
The baby cooed happily, making both animatronics smile.
Later that day...
Sun was cleaning up the tables after all the other kids had left and the Daycare closed while Moon was chasing a mischievous Katie, who had decided to play hide and seek. "Did Chica give her too much sugar?" The daytime animatronic asked.
"No," Moon said. "I think our little Starlight is just feeling playful."
"Hmm. She was interested in your hat earlier," his counterpart said. "Maybe you can use it to draw her out."
"Good idea."
Katie was hiding and giggling to herself before she heard the familiar sound of the bell on her brother's hat. Moon, grinning, set the hat down nearby and went out of sight, waiting patiently for the little girl to come out and grab his hat.
To his surprise, she reached out of the play tunnel she was in and grabbed the hat before scooting back fast to avoid getting grabbed. "Oh, you little sneak!" He said before going into the play tunnels after her.
Giggling, the little girl continued to run to hide, but the bell on the hat jingled, giving away her hiding spot. Chuckling, Moon crept closer to where his little sister was hiding. "Oh, Katie," he cooed to her. "I'm going to find you."
The baby giggled again, hugging the hat as the bell jingled again and Moon spotted her hiding around the corner in a little padded area before one of the half-tube tunnels. "Peek-a-boo!" He said, making Katie jump before she began laughing. Moon caught her before she could escape him again.
"What a silly little Starlight," he cooed to her before gently taking back his hat and putting it on his head. Katie watched him and her eyes widened at hearing the bell jingle. "Alright, we're definitely getting you a hat like me. I'll have to ask Miss Mikalea for some material."
"Material for what, Moon?" Sun asked, seeing them both and picking up the last bit of what his brother said.
"Oh, I was thinking about giving Katie a hat like mine," his counterpart said as he made the bell jingle again, making Katie giggle. "I was thinking maybe we could do her a headband that looks like your rays too, Sun."
"Oh, that would be so cute!" Sun said. "I can make her the headband with the supplies we have."
"I'm going to ask Miss Mikalea if there's any leftover fabric in storage that matches my hat so I can make the hat for Katie."
"I think there is," the daytime animatronic said.
The two smiled at Katie, who giggled and smiled back up at her brothers.
Oh, the cuteness! The cuteness! :)
The part with Moon setting his hat down and Katie grabbing it was inspired by the video clip "Sweet Little One" posted by SuperShadic X250 on YouTube. :)
