The clone realized one thing as Mizuki began explaining the rules. He could not use shadow clones to deal with Sasuke…
The reason? The school didn't know that he's capable of using it and he's not sure if they're going to punish him for technically skipping school or reward him like they did to itachi.
Things just became a lot more complicated for the clone and now he's having a hard time coming up with a strategy to at least knock Sasuke out of bounds without getting hit a few times.
He knew from the original's memories how capable Sasuke is as the boss has seen how the Uchiha fight and has even fought her a few times, With all resulting in a humiliating loss.
""Fight!""
The sound of Mizuki's announcement reached his ears and he immediately perked up and looked towards the Uchiha in front of him.
Sasuke is just standing, to anyone else, the Uchiha was just standing there not wanting to make the first move but he knew better. This is exactly how their previous fights played out. With her waiting for him to move so she can react and counter whatever attack he's going to send her way.
That's the nature of her clan's infamous fighting style. The Uchiha interceptor fists.
It was a technique that works well with the Uchiha that awakened the sharingan as the slowed perception given by the dojutsu enhanced the counter attacking capabilities of the technique.
But even though Sasuke currently doesn't have access to their clan's ocular powers. She still proves to be more than fearsome to her classmates.
The clone sighed and went to his fighting stance.
He carefully observed Sasuke's position and saw a lot of possible ways to engage but it was obviously a trap to lure him in and counterattack.
If he was still the same idiot he was a few weeks ago, he would've ignored the obvious trap and just charged head on without much thinking. But he's different now.
Navi's experience in fighting might be limited to tourneys but it's enough for now to knock his geneus classmate out of bounds.
His natural taunting skills might also be a huge help to him right now since an enraged and unfocused opponent is easier to deal with than level headed ones
His option for engagement is very limited since he can't get hit or else he would be dispelled.
He rushed forward with his arms being dragged behind him. Once he reached the Uchiha, he threw a right straight which the Uchiha blocked effortlessly.
Sasuke tried to pull him in closer to retaliate with a punch but the clone beat her to it and used her grip on his fist to jump and perform a spinning hook kick.
It would've struck her in the head, dealing a powerful blow but she managed to pull her arms together to guard herself.
She jumped back, dodging another kick from the blond now aimed at her chest.
-Sasuke-
Their brief exchange made her look disheveled. She looked up and saw the annoying grin that the blind was donning last time, present.
"Almost got ya, didn't I~?" He asked in the same annoying teasing tone.
She doesn't know why he's doing it. Maybe he takes enjoyment in seeing other people's misery, she doesn't know. But it elicited the reaction he was hoping for.
A deep frown that was not quite a snarl yet, formed on Sasuke's face.
Her head is still leveled and composed but it does make some difference now that she's less focused.
Crack*
The blond bent backwards, stretching his back causing it to release a pop. The act of stretching added to the Uchiha's growing annoyance towards the blond.
"Ahhh~ that hits the spot!" The blond groaned.
The blond again, went to his Fighting stance and looked expectantly towards her as if waiting for her to initiate an attack.
" Aren't you… going to attack " he asked with a confused look that just looked too fake for her. The bastard knew why she was not engaging but still asked to make her seem like a coward.
Her frown deepened but it disappeared just as quickly as it appeared but judging from the wider grin on the Bastard's face, he saw her expression well and clear.
"Alright alright, I'll stop teasing you now " The blond dumbass chuckled and shook his head.
As if deciding that he's already wasted a lot of time. The blond sprinted forward with incredible speed.
' He's almost as fast as me! ' the Uchiha internally lamented.
When Naruto reached her striking distance, she decided to strike first, throwing a right straight, knowing that being hit by a punch while he's going so fast would cause her some serious injury even when blocked.
But that soon turned into a mistake when the blond dodged her first by ducking under it and shifting to his left, only losing a little momentum. He spun around swiftly before stretching his hand out, hitting her in her jaw with his right fist like a whip.
She staggered backwards but quickly gathered herself and blocked the incoming punches sent by the blond, successfully.
She ducked under the next punch he sent and threw a powerful left punch towards his defenseless chest.
The blond's eyes widened.
reacting quickly, he put a lot of force into his feet and jumped back. But it's still not quite enough to avoid the incoming punch.
As a last resort, he raised his knee to block the punch but regretfully, it only diverted its trajectory to his ribs.
The power behind the strike isn't as strong as she would've liked but it still hits him, and that is sufficient for now.
It graced his ribs and Sasuke could see the relieved expression on his face. Which confused her.
Why was he so afraid of getting hit?
' It doesn't matter ' she dismissed her thoughts and didn't let the blond get too much breathing time.
Quickly engaging him again, she threw punches at him but it's as if the blond has gotten not only more cautious but also faster. On his face, the annoying grin was lost, replaced by one of pure seriousness and focus.
She continued throwing attacks but the blond just dances around them, dodging and sometimes blocking them.
She's getting tired and her breath is getting more and more ragged as the seconds tick. But the blond dumbass doesn't even look like he's exerted himself at least. There's a few beads of sweat on his forehead but Sasuke it's more from focusing on dodging her rather than him getting tired.
Her monologue got cut short when she felt the blond's grip around her left wrist.
While she was inner monologuing, she lost focus on him and the blond capitulated on her mistake and managed to grab her wrist.
She looked towards Naruto and saw a punch rapidly approaching her face.
She's sure that if that managed to hit her she would be thrown back out of bounds or worse, get knocked out.
Suddenly as if the world came to a crawl, she saw the blond's fist had slowed down. A quick glance to the side showed the exact same thing happening to the other students that were watching.
Still too overwhelmed by the situation to grasp what had happened to her. She quickly tilted her upper body alongside her head to the left.
Completely dodging the punch.
She looked the blond to the eyes and saw his surprised expression. She took pleasure in it and grinned.
Although she is still confused about what happened. She knew it was now her turn to retaliate.
The blond's movements had gotten slower to her perspective but he's still keeping up with her movements. The only advantage she thinks she has right now was her slowed perspective.
If before, she was struggling on completely dodging his strikes, now it's the other way around. Her slowed perception of the world gave her time to predict which direction he would strike, dodge or block.
And though he's still managing to hit her, the tide has completely turned.
There's one thing she noticed, though. The force behind his punches were inconsistent. Sometimes it hits hard but There's times when it should hit hard but it doesn't. And those were times when he was moving swiftly.
' it's as if he can't do both things at once. He can't be fast while striking with greater force and vice versa.'
The grin she was sporting widened and she saw the blond dumbass' forehead scrunch.
The frequency of him returning a strike lessened as he focused more on dodging and blocking her rapid barrage of near chunnin fast punches.
There's just little to no opportunity for him to strike cleanly while avoiding Hits. and when said opportunity appears, it quickly vanishes and he's again forced to wait for an opportunity lest he wants to get struck.
This time, as if deciding to forgo being defensive, the blond struck at her with his left. She swiftly redirected it aside with her left palm she let loose a right counter attack which was then caught by the blond's palm.
The blond pulled her closer like she did earlier. But instead of going for a punch like she intended to do previously, the blond's seems to be going for a kick to her chest.
Too bad for him and good for Sasuke. She saw the kick ensuing. The irregular movements of his right leg, the slow but careful lifting of his knee. It was all perceived by Sasuke.
The kick she was expecting came and by the time it's near her, she already jumped up higher than the kick intending to hit her chest.
She looked the blond to the face, showing him her wide toothy grin.
Not wasting a second. She used his grip on her against him and pulled herself towards him, successfully planting both her feet on his chest with great force.
As the kick neared his chest. Only one thought was going through the clone's head.
'defend it!' he shouted in his thoughts.
Both his arms were away from his chest so crossing it wouldn't be a viable choice.
In his desperation, he unconsciously summoned some chains to his chest.
No one saw the summoning of the chains as it vanished as quickly as it appeared. No one but a certain Uchiha with widened eyes as red as blood.
The chains blocked the kick but the force behind it still sent him a few feet behind him.
He landed with one knee and hand on the floor.
He regained his composure but it's not quick enough because when he looked up, Sasuke was already in front of him.
She sent a kick to his face and this time… he wasn't as lucky as earlier and didn't manage to defend it.
When the kick connected to his face, he disappeared in a thick puff of smoke.
…
A surprised look appeared on Sasuke's face and judging by the gasps and murmuring of other students, they too were surprised.
'what was that?!' Sasuke asked, perplexed. Suddenly it clicked to her. She heard itachi talk about it before. The shadow clone jutsu.
'but how could the dumbass be able to use it?! No, more importantly, a CLONE almost defeated me!'
She was furious, but not because Naruto was able to use an advanced technique such as the shadow clone, no. She was furious because the blond nearly defeated her with it.
' There's also that golden chain. I only saw for a brief moment but I saw it clearly.' her scowl deepens.
'So not only was he using a clone with half his chakra against me, he was also holding back!'
She gritted her teeth in frustration and went on deep thoughts.
'Had he been faking it the whole time? Is him being weak just an act? No, it couldn't be, he was genuinely helpless against other students. Even Kiba was more skilled than him so that couldn't have been the case.
So his improvement was recent. But how? How did he improve so fast? It just isn't possible. I've been training harder than anyone else in our age group. Just a few weeks ago He was so pathetically weak. What could he have possibly done to get strong that fast?'
Her deep thoughts continued and she just stood there, everything around her was muted to her and the only thing she could hear was her pondering.
The incredulity of the situation bugged her to the bone.
Minutes passed and the murmurings of the crowd of students on the side continued but she didn't care and since no one had come to tell her to get out of the ring, she stayed there.
With the gears on her brain turning, she completely forgot about the slowed perception she experienced earlier
-after the clone popped.-
'Oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shitttttt!'
Naruto's expression says it all. He didn't waste a single second after he received the memories of the clone after it popped.
He immediately rushed out his open window and began quickly running through rooftops, jumping over every alley and street below.
The wind rushing to his face was cold, not helping much to his anxiety.
In his mind, there's two ways this situation could go.
One - the teachers and the head head of the academy would be impressed with him and let him skip a year or two or better yet, make him graduate. But the other one was a lot less appealing as they could just turn a blind eye on his achievement and suspend him.
The latter being the most probable since he knows just how much the teachers hate him barring Iruka to some extent.
In hindsight, he knows that he really shouldn't be anxious but the more he thinks about it, the more it makes sense to him that he wouldn't get the same leniency that itachi got.
For one, he isn't a known genius and given how much contempt the villagers are holding against him, it probably wouldn't make them look too good in the eyes and opinion of the masses.
' Whatever, I'll cross that bridge when I get there.'
Sighing, he stopped his musings and focused on getting to the academy faster.
Being on the other side of the village really isn't ideal.
The academy stands on the north of the village while his home was in the south, near the gates.
So even if he runs full speed, without chakra, it would take him over ten minutes to make it to the academy.
'The anime and manga really didn't do this village any Justice. The depiction on them looks spot on but the sheer size of the village wasn't really captured. Just the ,now barren, Uchiha district alone is bigger than what the show portrayed. It really makes me wonder just how the other major village compares .'
He cuts his thoughts short as he reaches the halfway point.
Shaking his head, he thinks. 'It would take too long if I continue going with this speed. I could use chakra on my legs but that would be a little risky. The chains on the other hand…'
The last time he tried to use the chains like grapple, it was too slow to actually work perfectly. Now though, he has better control of it. He could actually make it work.
There are not enough tall buildings on the main part of the village so swinging through them isn't doable. The light posts though are abundant so he could use them.
'but before that though' *Henge no jutsu!*
A plume of smoke covercered him and dispersed soon after. As the smoke dispersed, it revealed his disguised form.
Not much changed besides the new red hoodie he was now sporting that shadowed his face. And dark green cargo pants replacing the one he was wearing.
Testing the speed of which his chains can shoot and retract. He shot it towards the light post nearest to him and used a much more complex variation of the surface sticking exercise to attach the chain to it without causing property damage.
He then retracted it with his body in tow. Making him zoom towards the post.
He flipped himself in the air. Landing on top of the post with grace.
"Yep, this works." He mutters to himself.
He could hear the confused murmurings of the people below him but paid them no mind.
Not wasting any more time, he started swinging from the light post Into another.
The feeling of the wind rushing through his face brought him a sense of freedom he hasn't felt before.
'no, this is the same feeling that Navi experiences when he's doing his stunts. it's exhilarating!'
His swinging reminded him of a superhero from a comic on navi's reality.
' spiderman, if I remember correctly'.
He continued swinging. His hair being ruffled by the wind and both ends of his scarf dangling behind him.
' with this speed I would reach the academy in a few minutes.'
-line-
Landing on top of the academy rooftop, Naruto undid his disguise and fixed his clothing.
He walked towards the side of the rooftop where the training grounds lay beneath.
Glancing briefly, he saw the students chattering including the clan heirs. Mizuki with his dumbfounded expression and Sasuke standing in the middle of the circle where she fought the clone.
"Hah~" he sighed loudly, preparing his mind for the chaos that would ensue when he went down.
Steeling himself, he immediately got into the goofy and playful character that he previously always wore.
Cheeky smile? Check, Goofy demeanor? Check And lastly, Clueless persona? Check.
After checking his clothes once more, he jumps over the chain link fence of the rooftop. Landing silently on the window ledge of the third floor, and then to the second before loudly landing on the ground. Announcing his presence to them.
All of them turned towards him, some with wide eyes, so he just waved and gave them a wide Smile.
"Yo".

Like I have BIG plans involving her. I honestly can't say much about Minato and Kushina's techniques as that would be a massive spoiler and I don't like spoilers so I suggest just reading. -Guest 1- Actually I think it is a good thing naruto doesn't befriend hinata. The hyuuga clan politics is very unstable at the moment. Hinata lost to Hanabi for heir to the hyuuga clan. Her place as main house hyuuga is slipping every little bit. The elders are looking for any excuse to put the juuin on hinata's forehead and make her branch house hyuuga. I don't know what hiashi is doing to keep her main house hyuuga. But at the moment naruto is considered outcast, prankster, and doing petty crimes from said pranks. Naruto didn't do himself any favors with his behaviors. But main house hyuuga saw hinata near naruto and befriending naruto, hinata would give her elders the excuse they need to put the juuin and make her branch house hyuuga. Hinata did the right thing by not being near naruto and not befriending naruto. Hinata is better off when naruto was ignoring her. Naruto needs to first make his reputation better in order to befriend hinata so the hyuuga clan elders won't have an excuse to put hinata out of mind and
out of sight. Or the other option is wait for hyuuga clan politics to become stable for naruto to befriend hinata and nothing happens to hinata.
-navi- y'know I agree with you. if the elders really wanted to put the seal on Hinata they could've done that the moment she lost to hanabi. I also think that Hiashi was the reason why she remained on the main branch. Yes, Naruto's reputation might make them more insistent on putting the seal on Hinata but like I previously said, they could've done that from the beginning. Don't worry though, our Naruto's interaction with Hinata would be limited until much later in the story.
