Special Shot: Revival of Girl's Night
Hi! So this is a filler chapter of OC and Dr. STONE girls' bonding! Since I portrayed the OC as a female, it's a must for her to have a good relationship with the other girls and not stick to just Ukyo. And there will be more filler like this in the future! I hope you enjoy this!
.
.
It was nothing unusual just like the night before–Shinko chose to sit on the bed with her back leaning against the cave wall. Ukyo was sitting beside her closely to the point their shoulder was touching even though at first he disagreed with her wishes to be up instead of lying down. He was keeping her company and his stories about works in SDF Naval as a sonarman was quite entertaining for her–about how really secluded the submarines were, about how he complained of not getting enough sunlight for his bones, about missing lands after months of being out in the ocean.
"Are you staying again for today, Ukyo-san?" she asked, fiddling with his fingers. She didn't bother to hold onto a blanket because not far from them, the said man lit a small bonfire to keep them protected from the biting cold.
From Yuzuriha's words, she learned about Ukyo's refusal to be apart–most of the time he chose to stay beside her and moved only when he's required to or if Senku in need of his skills or judgements about an issue. However, he made sure to finish them quickly and be back later on.
"Yeah, don't worry, I'll make some distance." he replied, teal eyes watching as how her hands holding his.
Shinko didn't mind if he's close either, somewhere in her heart she wanted him to be–but she did understand his reluctance. Ukyo is a respectful man, especially towards the opposite gender without a hint of looking down. She trusted him, knowing he wouldn't do a single thing that would make her uncomfortable.
"It's okay if you're closer too," she decided to be honest, even though her voice diminished the more she talked out of nervousness. But with his super hearing, Ukyo definitely wouldn't miss it. "I feel safer if you do."
"…I'll think about it." he finally said after pondering for a few seconds, holding her hand loosely in his. Ukyo shifted slightly, turning to look at her. "Do you want to rest now? It's not late yet, but the more rest you get the better it is."
Then he pulled his hand away from her grip. Shinko couldn't help but feeling panic began stirring up in her stomach–did she make him uncomfortable with her words? Is that why he told her to sleep early? So he could be away from her as soon as possible? Is he going to make some distance between them starting from now on?
Before another negativity corrupted her mind or she even had a chance to started laying curses on herself, an arm wrapped itself around her shoulder and a hand pushing her head to lean closer. Shinko's head finally rested upon Ukyo's juncture between his neck and shoulder, because if she slightly craned her neck she was met with the view of his chiseled jaw. She found her worries instantly dissolved into thin air knowing everything was okay–she's just overreacting.
"Now, sleep." he ushered–his hand caressing her hair still, on his mission to lull her to a dreamland.
"Your shoulder will be sore." she remarked and scooted closer, being pulled in by his warmth which was hard to resist.
"It's okay," he replied, cheek pressed against the top of her head. "I'll just move you once you're asleep-"
"Shinko-chan!"
The sudden cheerful and innocent call interrupted them out of blue–sending the two flew away from each other in an instant, not wanting to be seen by their unexpected guests. It would quite problematic if people caught the two of them being so… comfortable with each other–the two didn't want to stir anything weird between everyone. Not once in a million years after, human's nature to gossip will never change.
The curtain was swept away, letting the moon's dim glow broke through and lit the cave with soft blue hue–revealing an extremely familiar figure of a certain brunette with short hair.
"Y-Yuzuriha-san," she stuttered out a greeting, half of her mind trying to press her panic down in order to not be suspicious. "Why the sudden visit? Shouldn't you be resting?"
"We thought we should come because Shinko-chan looks lonely, so here we are!" she explained, giving them a smile with hand tracing imaginatively into the air to emphasize her words.
"'We'?" Ukyo muttered with a brow rose, noticing something odd with her words.
"We're here too!" as if answering his questioning glance and mutter, Minami cheered–popping her head from the cave's mouth, brown eyes shining in mirth and a grin plastered upon her face. Following the blonde-haired woman, one after another, figures emerged and adding more company for Shinko. Kohaku, Ruri, Mirai, and Suika showed themselves with smiles.
"Well, I'm definitely surprised, but I'm happy," she gave them a wide smile in return, feeling her chest bloomed with warmth because of their caring nature. However, she never expected them to give her a visit in the middle of the night when they're supposed to be resting for tomorrow's another grueling activity. Everyone's practically running here and there to gather the statue remains while Yuzuriha along with her new craft-squad in charge of assembling them into whole new complete statue. The hours they spent could only be made up with a good night sleep and enough energy from food.
"And the good news is," Minami added with excitement could be heard clearly in her tone, showing a bundle of seemingly a sleeping bag made wholly from animal skin she hid behind her back. "We're also going to stay here tonight! This night will be a girl's night! That's why everyone is here!"
"Yuzuriha told me that a girl's night is a sleepover between girls only!" Suika informed, twirling in glee for a few seconds before jogging to approach Shinko. The little girl dropped herself beside her with arms open, asking for a hug from the older. Who was she to deny her? Shinko pulled Suika to sit on her lap instead, minding her injury as she did so.
The little girl giggled merrily, snuggling closer and craning her neck to look at her. "We're going to have so much fun!"
"Which is why," Minami smirked, chocolate eyes immediately zeroing on the only male exists in the room. The said male stiffened out of surprise by the sudden finger pointing out straight at him. "Ukyo-kun needs to leave!"
Yuzuriha nodded enthusiastically, completely agreeing with the plan. "No boys are allowed in the premises!"
"W-wha-"
"You heard them, Ukyo," Kohaku remarked, blue eyes glinting in amusement seeing how he was taken aback by the sudden turn-out event. It was quite entertaining to watch–especially knowing Ukyo is a man of complete composure, he hardly loses his calm and always on his best stature.
Without waiting for another word from him–they certainly wouldn't let his protests become an obstacle in the dawn of this special night, Yuzuriha was already snatching his arm and pulling him up with a yank until he stood up from his sitting position. Minami soon made an approach, placing her hands on his back and started pushing him towards the exit.
Mirai then joining in to help, holding onto Ukyo's free hand and pull with all her might–puffing her cheeks to give it her all on her mission. Grunting from both the strong push and pull, Ukyo tried to steady his forced steps so he wouldn't trip along his way being dragged away.
"W-wait!" he said, throwing a look over his shoulder–teal eyes screaming for help from the pink-haired young woman. Unfortunately, he was met with her treacherous muffle giggles–body lurched forward and a hand holding her stomach, body trembled from the laugh she tried to forced down.
So much asking for assistance.
With a strong push from Minami and final pulls from both Yuzuriha and Mirai, Ukyo had his feet stepped outside of the cave. Turning his back, he was once again met with the reporter's finger thrusting onto his face and being extremely close to his nose. "Go join the other boys for some boys' talk or anything! Until tomorrow, you're banned from this area!"
"Bye, Ukyo-kun!" Yuzuriha gave him an overly-excited wave before letting the curtain fall and covered the entrance fully–leaving the said young man froze on his spot and staring in bewilderment from the insanely fast event that just happened.
On that day, Saionji Ukyo had to accept his fate of being kicked out without having much of a fight.
.
.
For Senku, a night spent without having Ukyo joining them for dinner sitting by the bonfire was a routine. In fact, looking for the young man everywhere and not find him on sight soon after knowing his work was done isn't a surprise. He was quick to vanish–even though the whole Kingdom of Science knew where he went to stay there until the next day. He didn't mind to be called for another task, but he proceeded to finish it as soon as possible.
His absence wasn't a hindrance per se because they already have enough people to split the heavy work they need to accomplish as a start of building humanity back–those who in charge of gathering stone parts of the statue, those who's duty was to assemble them under Yuzuriha's watch, and those who assisted him in building another scientific invention.
However, sometimes Senku did need his judgement for some plans knowing he has such ability from his navy experience–part of this information he got from the said reporter Tsukasa revived.
But today seemed to be a special occasion because, speak of the devil, Ukyo appeared from the darkness of the path that led towards the cave–sporting a dejected look followed by a defeated sigh as he once sat down on an empty log. It was rare coming from his since all of the time he would have a controlled, unwavering composure. His abrupt appearance made Senku rose a brow.
"It's a surprise to see you join us, Ukyo-chan," Gen greeted, moving to sit on an empty spot beside the archer. "Something happen? Did Shinko-chan decide that she's bored of you?"
"No, it's not that," the said young man reply, ignoring the mentalist's last question deliberately. "Yuzuriha, Minami, and the girls kicked me out. Saying they want to have a girl's night or something like that…"
"Hm, basically you're banned from the place." Senku hummed nonchalantly, chewing on his piece of meat. "Probably until tomorrow."
Ukyo laughed nervously, scratching his cheek lightly. "Sort of."
Then Gen clapped his hands suddenly, breaking the silence while at the same time gathering attention of the circle which mostly consists by men–their eyes instantly focused on him. "Then, since the girls are gone, might as well as make this as a boys' night!"
Senku frowned, utterly and undeniably displeased with the childish and ridiculous idea. "Disgusting."
.
.
"So, what do people from modern times used to do in this so called 'girl's night'?" Kohaku questioned, folding her legs until she could fold her arms on her knees.
Soon after their success of kicking the ex-sonarman out, they began to roll out the sleeping bag on the rocky round and arranged so it's lining up to form a circle where they could face each other without much difficulty–it would help to make their late-night conversation more enjoyable. Suika already saved her own spot beside Shinko, whereas Yuzuriha called dibs on her other side. Following, Minami who sat beside Yuzuriha, then Mirai, after that Kohaku, and finally Ruri.
"Yes, I'm quite curious about it as well," Ruri added, shifting on her seat.
"Well, in our modern times, girl's night is a term for us girls to spend time together!" Yuzuriha started to explain. "Usually, we talk about many things like idols, music, latest gossip or issue, fashion, make up, and many more."
"I don't understand most of those terms," Kohaku deadpanned, frowning in confusion from the many unfamiliar words rolled off the brunette's tongue. Both Ruri and Suika showed their agreement with series of sheepish giggles. "But the point is we're just talking to each other, right?"
Shinko nodded, a signal that Kohaku already knew the main point of this event. "Then, we should just use this girl's night to talk about what girls usually do back in our time. Kohaku-san, Ruri-san, and Suika-san can ask anything and we'll try to explain it as best as we could."
The idea was getting so many positive and cheerful responds–it was a part of a happiness to share many things about the previous advanced civilization to the new generation, especially the topic for girls knowing they wouldn't know it existed. Minami was the one who volunteered herself to start with one of the topics, which was fashion.
Shinko couldn't help but occasionally giggled when she noticed how Kohaku and Ruri's eyes shone brightly from curiosity–then accompanied by looks of astonishment and amazement after learning that there's so many thing women could do 3,700 years ago. None of them they could in this stone era.
After fashion, the topic switched to make up and idols by Yuzuriha–Mirai also added a few things which made Suika excited. It's nice to see the two little girls getting along and formed a new friendship.
"By the way, where's Nikki-san?" Shinko interrupted slightly, glancing here and there–noticing a missing member from their feminine squad. Nikki was supposed to be included without a doubt. "I thought everyone's here…"
"Nikki-chan feels awkward because she always glares at you before," Minami answered, laughing nervously–explaining the tall girl's cause of absence. "She said she doesn't want to make you uncomfortable or stressed."
The younger girl couldn't help but let her shoulders slumped into a slight disappointment. One of her wishes was to be quite close with Nikki, if not only an acquaintance is fine–Shinko admired her truly, it was extremely rare for her to see a woman who has a strong figure as she is. Sure, she was intimidated by the blonde, especially from her menacing aura that screamed to not get closer at her–however, if she had the chance, she really wanted to know the taller girl a lot more.
"That's too bad…" Shinko commented. "I really want her to join us."
"Hey, Shinko-chan," Yuzuriha tapped on her shoulder, making her turn to face the brunette with a look of confusion. "Do you dislike Nikki-san?"
The question sent her eyes blinked in disbelief from the sudden question. Why did Yuzuriha ask that type of question? What for? "N-no, why should I? I don't dislike her at all."
Responding to her answer, Yuzuriha giggled in glee and then directing her eyes towards the cave's entrance–which was still covered by the curtain. Her diverted attention and changed line of sight was gaining everyone's attention, making them to look at the direction she was referring towards to. "Do you hear that, Nikki-san? Shinko-chan doesn't hate you!"
Maybe it was some sort of signal from Yuzuriha or a cue at best for the said person they've been talking about briefly to enter the cave with head bowing low and fingers fiddling. With her sharp eyes, it was quite hard for Shinko to miss the soft flush adorning her face.
"R-Really? Even after that glaring…?" Nikki asked meekly, eyes not wanting to meet her own pair–not yet.
"N-No!" she was quick to deny, wanting the blonde-haired girl to believe her words wholly. "I just thought you're uncomfortable with me so I made no effort, maybe I should've just tried harder… But I don't dislike you, Nikki-san! In fact, I admire you because you're so strong!"
Her sudden outburst drove by instinct alone needed sink in at least a few seconds tops before fire began crawling on her entire figure and engulfed her in hot feeling of embarrassment. It's clearly contagious after seeing Nikki's face entirely colored in red as the results from her too-honest explanation.
"Now that the problem's solved," Minami was quick to be by the taller girl's side, holding onto her arm. "Nikki-chan should join us!"
"Do you bring your sleeping bag because we're going to stay here until tomorrow." Kohaku remarked, referring towards the fabric they have underneath to protect them from the cold.
"I brought one," Nikki answered, holding onto her own roll of fabric. "Yuzuriha already told me to bring it."
"Then, come sit!" Shinko ushered her towards an empty space made by Ruri dan Suika special just for her. For the first time that day, Nikki could smile so wide and welcoming the excitement she felt as she rolled out her sleeping back before sitting down on it.
The pink-haired young woman couldn't help but bursting with delight knowing both her and Nikki were finally in good terms after some time of misunderstanding. Right at the moment, their little get-away group is finally complete with Nikki's appearance. Tonight would certainly be fun indeed.
"Now that Nikki-san is here, let's continue!" Yuzuriha suggested, which earned cheers of agreement from the rest of the girls. "Last time it's about-"
"Music, right?" Ruri finished. "We heard it before in the village, Lillian-san's record!"
"Ah, the record Senku played when we're gathering allies for the Stone Wars." Nikki added. "To think we can hear a song in this stone era."
"Apparently, according to Senku-san, those record was left behind by the astronauts of Soyuz 3,700 years ago," Shinko followed, recalling the explanation she managed to dig from the scientist. "And Ishigami Village is their descendant decades later on. It's some kind of souvenir from modern times, he said."
"It was a shock on its own to realize that we're have blood relation with Senku," Kohaku shivered.
"Probably not," Yuzuriha replied. "Byakuya-san and Senku-kun isn't blood related at all. So, you're not Senku's far cousins or something."
"Besides, it's already decades apart." Shinko added. "It's impossible."
"So, there were more of these songs back in the modern age?" Ruri questioned, trying to make a conclusion.
Nikki nodded enthusiastically. "Millions of them roughly! And each with their own special touch! But Lillian's my ultimate favorite!"
Both Kohaku and Suika's eyes glimmered. "Really!?"
"We have people whose carrier revolves around singing," Shinko remarked. "Much like Lillian-san and they're called singers. They give us entertainments, relying their thoughts through their song, and also motivated us."
"These singers can do that?' Kohaku muttered breathlessly.
"Do you have any other song beside Lilian's? We want to hear them!" Suika said and Shinko could feel excitement radiating from her.
"We do have but we're not singers so I don't think it will be good enough," Minami commented.
"How about each one of us sings one song for examples? Just to show some of the varieties!" Mirai suggested, which earned series of nods in agreement.
"Then, Mirai-chan, you start!" Minami exclaimed, wrapping her arms around the smaller girl who squeaked in embarrassment of having the first turn in their medley nostalgia of songs. However, she still did it otherwise–singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star as best as she could. Sure, her voice sometimes hitched and shaky probably from how nervous she was, but in the end the little girl received rounds of applause.
"That's so cute!"
"Great work, Mirai-san!"
"You have a really sweet voice!"
The said girl could only fiddle her fingers shyly in respond, face flushed pink–not used for that immense kind of attention she received. Moving on, the next was Minami who presented a certain Japanese song which Shinko couldn't recognize but lovely nonetheless. Next was Nikki, who of course, sang one of Lillian's songs–from the way she sang it with so much passion was the ultimate proof of her being the megafan of the foreign singer.
Sure, each of them had their fair share of nervousness when their turn arrived, that includes Shinko–she found it rather embarrassing because this is just a simple gathering, she didn't need to have the most extravagant performance or some sort. It's not a big deal, yet why did her hands feel so cold and started to sweat? Is this what they call stage fright?
"Shinko-chan's turn!" Minami's teasing voice dragged out slowly in order to dipped her more into her own fright.
"I-I know!" she stuttered, puffing her cheeks before realizing the most important thing she should've thought about rather than being nervous. "My bad, I don't know what I should sing."
"Just sing whatever song that came into your mind!" Nikki commented, trying to get her spirit up–her words did help her a little bit, especially to determine the song she needed to sing.
Shinko hummed knowingly, "Whatever came to my mind, huh…"
Searching for inspiration would be the best choice she could came up with. That's why she started to scanned her surroundings, looking for something that caught her eyes and gave her an idea. It only took a few seconds before her pair of purple-colored eyes to focused on both Yuzuriha's pink ribbons and Minami's magenta colored dress.
That's it!
Clearing her throat to add a slight dramatic flare, she opened her mouth and exhaled slowly.
"Quand il me prend dans ses bras
Qu'il me parle tout bas
Je vois la vie en rose."
She let the rest of the song flew comfortably–now, thinking back, it's been a while since she sung something. All this time she only hummed a few songs, that's also on a certain occasion–most of them she did it for herself to get rid of her boredom and lack of music. This would make the first time she sang in front of an audience even though it's small.
"That's so beautiful, Shinko-chan!" Soon after she finished, Yuzuriha was quick to threw herself onto her.
"I don't know you can sing!" Nikki added, seems like the brunette's excitement was contagious.
"Thank you…" the said young woman smiled sheepishly. "I owned a guitar 3,700 years ago. I used to play it to relieve stress."
"Maybe we can ask Senku to make you one in the future!" Minami suggested. "You're the closest to a singer we can get! A huge step towards the rebirth of music entertainment!"
Ah, a guitar, huh? It would be an incredible thing to have in this stone era. Back then, searching for songs or something to fill your boredom was extremely easy–just reaching out for your phone, checking if it's connected to the internet or not, then with just a few taps here and there you could get anything; movies, TV shows, latest news update, digital novels, comics, and many more.
"I'll think about it," She finally said. "Senku-san is quite busy at the moment because of our grand project, so I'll ask him if he's not too busy."
"And one more thing," Minami added before aggressively pointing at her. "That! The '-san' you use to address everyone! Be more relax now, would you? From now on, call us girls with '-chan' okay?"
"Is it alright?" Shinko laughed nervously, which earned enthusiastic nod from both Yuzuriha and Mirai.
She finally promised change the suffix she used in order to get closer–the next step would be shedding the formalities and started to speak informally. It would be quite hard to get used to it, but Shinko felt excited by the chance. Soon, their topic moved from here and there, jumping from one to another–filled with laughs and giggles sometimes.
It was a great night indeed–the one Shinko wouldn't possibly forget.
