Winter Dreams Lost Fic Cookie
Ginny knew she was being followed.
She shouldn't have gone out on her own, Draco had warned her not to; had warned her that the Dark Lordwas after her. But she had gone out anyways. She had woken after a fitful night's sleep, and once Draco had left for the day, she had spent more time than usual making herself look nice. It was when she had finished curling her hair into long glossy waves, that she made the impulsive decision to leave. Afterall, she wouldn't be gone long, just a few minutes at most. She knew Draco would be furious when he found out, but she was desperate to leave the stifling isolation of the manor.
She should have listened. She should have stayed home. Because now, as she took a rapid detour into an alleyway, and found herself at a dead-end, she knew the shadowy figure had her cornered. She whipped around, holding her wand aloft. She didn't care that she was in a muggle village, she just knew that the moment she had stepped out into the streets, a man in a dark cloak began following her. She had thought she had been careful, wearing inconspicuous robes, and her red hair hidden beneath her hood. The hood had slipped off only once, but apparently that was all it took for her presence to be revealed.
A dark form appeared at the entrance to the alleyway. Ginny cursed herself again, she was in for it now. She tried to hold her arm steady as she studied the outline of the person coming towards her. Her heart was pounding in her throat. She couldn't remember when she had last had to use her wand on another person. She wracked her brain for any memories of dueling. Did she know how to disarm someone? Surely she had to have done before...
The tall dark figure was advancing closer, and Ginny tightened her grip on her wand.
"Stop!" she shouted, sounding braver than she felt, "Don't come any closer."
The hooded figure stopped, and she saw him hold up his wandless hands in a gesture of peace.
"It's alright," he said, "It's okay, I won't hurt you." He took a few more steps forward, and Ginny felt her chest tighten in fear.
"Thats close enough!" she said, her voice trembling, "Just let me pass. Please. I'm not interested in talking."
The man did not move out of the way, but boldly took yet another step forward. When he was just a few steps away from her, and Ginny was about to blast him with whatever spell she could think of, he moved his hands to his hood and lowered it.
Ginny's breath hitched when the man revealed his face. He had the most brilliant green eyes she had ever seen, and a mop of untidy black hair. His features were handsome, but they were drawn in weariness, like someone who had been in mourning. His eyes were wide as he took her in.
"Gin..." he breathed, sounding almost frantic, "it is you, I thought for sure it was. They told me you disappeared with him, and we thought you might be... But you're alive! Are you hurt? And you probably thought I was dead this whole time! I have so much to tell you!"
"Stop!" she commanded, raising her other hand, and clenching her jaw. It didn't matter that he had a handsome face, or kind eyes. She knew him from the picture. She knew who he was. "Don't you dare say another word to me." She whispered fiercely. Anger and hatred were rolling up inside her.
The boy slowly shook his head back and forth, looking helpless.
"Don't you know who I am? What did Draco do to you?" He murmured quietly, his eyes pleading.
Ginny stepped forward, raising her wand higher. She didn't know how he knew Draco, but it didn't matter.
"I know exactly who you are!" She spat.
The boy stepped back, like he was horrified by what he was seeing. His bright eyes were welling up with tears, but Ginny knew better than to fall for his lies. She glared daggers at him.
"You're the Dark Lord."
