The Forgotten Chieftain's Wife Chapter 20

The sun rose not too long ago. Durotan had arisen early, emerging from the tent to meet with Orgrim. Durotan was quiet so not to wake either member of his family. They needed their sleep.

Durotan and Orgrim went to a spot overlooking the entire warband. Here they sat content to gaze out at the scenery.

Out of the blue for no reason at all Orgrim casually tosses a tiny pebble at Durotan's head.

The two laugh, enjoying the peace and quiet, reveling in the wildlife around them.

"Oh, it's good to see trees again," said Orgrim.

"And the snow. Even from a distance," concurred Durotan.

Orgrim hummed in acknowledgement.

Durotan was pleased at this. He had brought Orgrim here to remind him what life, what actual life looked like for a reason that is about to be made apparent.

"Remember when we would hunt blood ox from the Frostwind Dunes? There was always meat, always life. You don't think it strange that we lost our home when Gul'dan came to power," broached Durotan, speaking about when Gul'dan brought the fel into their home for the first time.

Durotan is not stupid. He's connecting the dots where others would rather not see them, even Orgrim. Sometimes it's better to believe the pretense instead of reality.

"One Orc cannot kill a world, Durotan," said Orgrim.

"Are you sure? Look around you. Does it not remind you of something," said Durotan.

The Black Morass around them upon traveling through the Gate had been lush and green teeming with life as a swamp, but now there was only dirt parched and thirsting for relief where there was once an abundance of water everywhere.

This is exactly how their world had looked before Gul'dan took over and now that the fel is here it will do the same. These are clear signs of that.

Lyanna as much as voiced these concerns to her husband in private. Durotan agreed that they are probably heading down the same road if nothing is done to stop it.

Persisting in his case, Durotan said "Wherever Gul'dan works his magic, the land dies. If our people are to make a home here, my friend. Gul'dan must be stopped," said Durotan, tone of voice carrying strong conviction.

Not agreeing and yet not disagreeing, Orgrim said "We are not powerful enough to defeat Gul'dan. There are so many other tribes that outnumber them easily should there be a death match.

Scratching his chin thoughtfully with a sharp thumbnail, aware of this, Durotan said "No. No. But with the humans' help, we could be."

Orgrim growled lowly in response to this suggested gamble.

"Hear me out, Orgrim. I've talked with Lyanna about this. If I can somehow arrange an rendezvous with them Lyanna believes her race will join forces with us. We just need to find a way how," said Durotan.

Durotan will have the chance very soon.

Lothar wasn't even close to being prepared for what they found waiting for them in the Black Morass when they arrived there in secret.

On an unseen vantage point in the ravine where they can see the war band, but no one can see them Lothar, Garona, Khadgar, Varis, and Karos have a perfect view of the entire war band.

King Llane and all the other kingdoms have to be informed about this. None of them are really cut out to handle an enemy of this magnitude and this not even being all of them. The danger about this is very high if precautions aren't taken immediately and with Stormwind being the closest there's some real bothersome battles heading their way.

"The Great Gate," said Garona, pointing at it where Orcs have been constructing it nonstop since arriving in Azeroth.

Scanning his eyes over the numerous cages with captured humans being herded and crammed into them, Luthor asked "Why do they need so many prisoners?"

Bluntly, Garona explained "Like wood for a fire. Green magic takes life to open the Gate."

"How many more Orcs are they planning on bringing," said Lothar.

Starkly, Garona said "All of them. This is just a warband. When the portal is opened Gul'dan will bring the Horde."

That's encouraging.

Lothar swept his eyes over the camp multiple times, but couldn't find her.

Lothar said "You told us that Lyanna is somewhere in this camp. Where would she be?"

"The Frostwolf encampment," said Garona, showing them the spread of dirt where the Frostwolves had set up their tents. "She'll be in the Chieftain's tent. Durotan will probably be keeping her close. There are those in the Warband who might still wish her harm should she stray too far from his side."

Right at that exact moment the flap in the Frostwolf Chieftain's tent opened and Lyanna stepped out carrying the baby in her arms.

Lothar's breath hitched, heart thumping hard in his chest, as he watched Lyanna stepped into the sun. No doubt about it,, Garona was telling the truth. Even from across so far a distance Lothar can tell it was her. Lyanna's look is unmistakable. As Lothar watches on he sees Lyanna interact with another female who is Draka. The two talk briefly before returning inside her family's tent to chat some more in private.

This is important. King Llane has to know immediately.

Motioning with his head to Karos, Lothar commanded "Get them back to Stormwind. We'll ride ahead," said Lothar.

Lothar and Varis then left to clear the way.

Garona, Karos, and Khadgar would remain a little while longer.

From a hiding place in the foliage Durotan had seen and heard everything. Similar to how Lyanna did with Garona while she was a slave Lyanna taught him her own language. Durotan sees this as an opportunity.

The conversation Durotan had with Orgrim earlier in the day was still on his mind. The Frostwolves are going to need aide in order to overthrow Gul'dan and this can be their way in order to make sure they get it.

After all these are Lyanna's people as well as the Frostwolves. If anyone can convince them and the Frostwolves to join forces it is her.

Wishing you all a Happy 4th of July!

Hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D

I'm glad to have finally gotten back to this after such a long absence compared to some others on my profile. I've been meaning to for a while and only now I've managed to find time and inspiration for it. Still in the beginning stages, but I'm very satisfied and happy about it.
