The Forgotten Chieftain's Wife Chapter 21
It's imperative that they return to Stormwind in order to give the report on their findings as fast as possible. Lothar knows King Llane will be most interested in the news about Lyanna.
As Lothar and Varis rode away on their mounts to get a head start Garona stood there watching. Karos and Khadgar prepping the horses behind her.
Getting nervous with how long they've lingered there nearby the war band for way too long, Khadgar said "Garona, we should go. It's not safe here-."
A rustle and a muffled grunt from behind had Garona swirling around to face what she suspects to be an assailant.
To Garona's shock it's not someone who openly hates and despises her from the Horde.
No, it's Durotan.
And he has a hand clamped down over Khadgar's mouth restraining him so he doesn't use any spells. Khadgar was staring at her with wide and alarmed eyes, scared to death of what might happen to him next from this. Karos is lying unconscious on the ground. Durotan snuck up on him, getting the drop before any of them noticed he was there. He must've been monitoring their movements this whole time and waited until this exact moment so he could speak to her this way.
"Durotan," gasped Garona, yet oddly at ease.
Durotan isn't an Orc that would make a move like this without good reason.
Turns out he does.
Speaking in Orc tongue so that they can speak in private, Durotan said "To the north is a black rock that touches the sky. I would meet with their leader there."
"To challenge him," demanded Garona.
Shaking his head, boring his eyes straight into her as he spoke so emphatically about why he's come to risk this very chance encounter, Durotan said "I saw you lead the small-teeth to our encampment. They have seen what is being built. But only you know what Gul'dan has planned for my people. You and Lyanna both. This magic is death to all things. It killed our world. I will not see the same fate happen to Lyanna's. It must be stopped. Tell Lyanna's brother, the black rock when the sun is highest."
"I will," promised Lyanna, nodding, a thought striking her. Perhaps if Gul'dan was overthrown it may be safer for her among her own kind again than it ever has been previously. "Chieftain. If I return would you take me into your clan?"
If Lyanna can find a home with the Frostwolves rebuilding her life from the roots all the way back up then so could she.
Durotan seemed to seriously think about it for a couple of seconds. But then concludes that even if he did, unlike Lyanna, she wouldn't be totally safe there.
"You're safer here. With them," said Durotan, glancing down at the scared to death sorcerer in his custody.
Khadgar remains frozen in fear.
Giving a resigned nod, Garona said "As it shall be. Tell me…Will you be bringing Lyanna to this meeting?"
That causes Durotan to pause as he considers it.
"Yes," said Durotan, smiling fondly at the mention of his beloved wife. "I doubt I'd be ever to prevent her from accompanying me even if I wanted to."
"It'll be good to see her," admits Garona. "How is she doing?"
"Lyanna is strong. So far she is keeping just to the Frostwolf camp, but there was an incident not too long ago. She has seen what has been happening to her own people and it has affected her greatly. She has not gone near the cages since," said Durotan.
"Poor Lyanna. Hopefully seeing other familiar faces will soothe her soul," said Lyanna.
"Agreed," said Durotan.
From the ground Karos begins to show signs of stirring. Durotan must take his leave before an unwanted fight breaks out between them since Karos will not understand. The man may very well attack first and ask questions later. It is of the most importance that this ends and the beginning of the meeting goes well and good for next time.
Eyeing the man warily from the edge of his range, Durotan said "I must go. I can't stay too long or someone will take note of my absence."
"Tomorrow then," said Garona.
Durotan now releases Khadgar from his grip.
Khadgar stares up still in shock as Durotan makes a comradely gesture by thumping his fist against the boy's chest. Durotan then gives an acknowledging bow to Garona and then slips away into the vast undergrowth.
There is much to do in order to prepare.
Durotan returns to camp. On his way back to his families tent he is greeted by many of his people. He waves and nods, but doesn't stop until he's home.
Upon entering his tent Durotan witnesses Lyanna nursing their son in his afternoon feed a content expression on her face.
"Lyanna," said Durotan, drawing her attention over to him.
Lyanna snaps her head upwards pleased to see him. The smile fades as she catches the grim and bleakness there.
"What is it," she asks.
Authors Note:
Wishing you all had a Happy 4th of July as I did.
Hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D
And so the fate rendezvous that will bring about the long anticipated reunion between the two siblings is at hand. I'm sure you're all going to like what I have in store there especially since Durotan can understand their language.
Do you think Lyanna should've been able to teach others in the Frostwolves her language? That is those who were interested in learning, of course.
